now. your tags are very interesting to me so i have to ask. do the puppets kissing KNOW its the other sidestep, or do they not know. is it a "we're compatible but only act on it when we don't know it's us" or is it a "we know its us but we only know how to perform tenderness in bodies that aren't our own". either way is pathological but in opposite directions

OKAY SO hfjfb this is about my sidestep Tal (they/them) and their puppet, Eden (he/him) as well as @b33tlejules sidestep Rhan (they/them) and Rhan's puppet..... who is also Eden (she/her)... i'll call them t!eden and r!eden for the sake of this post (and jules feel free to weigh in if you wanna)

now. the short answer is:

it'd be funny. both the edens are catty bitches and they'd make out for fun and never mention it again. pretend it didn't happen. r!eden is a lesbian and t!eden is a queer man and they wouldn't be attracted to each other but they Would make out because why not.

the much longer answer is: both tal and rhan take on a very different persona as their puppets. tal very much sees t!eden as his own separate person that just. also happens to be them. the edens each have more confidence than the telepaths that jaeger-pilot them do, and they each like to play the Character of Eden. being eden provides a sense of escapism, and they get very into the roleplaying aspect of it.

so it's closer to "we only know how to perform tenderness in bodies that aren't our own" but less in a "we actually would like each other but can only recognize it through being someone else" way and more in a "i'm bored and i don't want to be myself for a while, wanna pretend we're different people and see what happens?" way.

the characters they each play when they occupy their puppets would get along in ways tal and rhan Can't: the Edens can meet up for coffee and gossip, dress for attention, have no fear of being seen. they can actually unwind because their own physical appearance is no longer a danger in itself that they're trying to hide from, and i think that lack of constant anxiety would cause them to actually appreciate the things they have in common. As opposed to thinking "this guy has every trait i hate about myself. i need to beat them to death with a rock"

TLDR: at least 70% of rhan and tal's problems would be solved if they just tried LARPing.

thank you for writing in. at the top of this post i would like to clarify that pahrsi was made by my good friend rye beans, so i cannot at all take credit for her. ariane is my girl though. i would love to blend her. she sucks.

to answer your question, i think it is because they are both completely fucking insane. the dialogue in question is one i picked because i think it's wild out of context, but it stays equally insane in context? this exchange happens maybe two hours after they've met, after pahrsi has stitched up a particularly icky wound ariane has in the back of her leg (obtained from other yuri. thats a story for a different post though). they literally met at a casino and pahrsi talked ariane into taking her back to her place to stitch her up. as a complete stranger. because she thought it would be fun. i need to send her to the shredder.

the whole reason they find themselves drawn to each other in the first place is because they both have girlfriends that they have kind of rocky relationships with, and they remind each other of those girlfriends. it's kind of a weird rebound situation except if they never did anything explicitly romantic and instead just kind of danced around the fact that they're obviously attracted to each other for like two entire years. they make me fucking crazy.

oh and every exchange they have is equally insane. they always talk like this. im struggling to pick my favourite one to add at the end here because all of it is really really good. i think this one is a classic; this is barely a third of the conversation these two have about ariane's potential to kill pahrsi.

GHOSTKICKS. they are soooooo. tired depressed introvert gets adopted by a loud bubbly extrovert trope. at least on the surface. like how they behave at school in season 1. thinkin abt jimmy going "what is UP with bro behind u" and william just ominously lurking there. and how dakota defends him later !!!!!!!! idk how much of this youve gotten to yet bc i dont remember when it actually comes up in canon bc its such an ingrained part of his character but dakota is soooooo. guard dog coded. this hits especially hard in the "what if pd were villains" oneshot but its sooooo prevalent in canon too.

they both hold each other in the highest respect. william sees dakota as the prime (ha) example of what a hero should be. hes brave hes kind he does his best to protect everyone no matter what. hes all the things that william Isnt. BUT !!!! dakota also looks up to him !!! hes so smart hes good at problem solving hes so curious about everything and asking questions and poking his nose into things that nobody else would even consider. dakota knows hes not smart so he automatically looks to william whenever he needs a plan or someone to tell him what to do when he feels lost. they complement each other and they dont even !!!!! know it !!!!!!!

also regarding williams powers. fuck dude. season 1 he was so fucking scared of himself and ashamed of the things he could do . he hid every time he had to use wisp form !!! but dakota always thought it was so cool and was not QUIET about it. boy went fucking STAR EYES the first time he saw wisp form !!!!!! i will never stop thinking abt the first rolled for season 2 where charlie goes "if dakota hadnt left, he probably wouldve been able to convince william to keep using his powers and not to completely disregard their existence like he has been" and . considering what william is like in season 2... god this wouldve been a COMPLETELY different fucking campaign. theyre so. incredibly soulmates to me. theyre so important to each other theyd do anything for each other. i cant say too much more without accidentally giving you spoilers bc i WILL keep talking and not be able to shut up but GOD fuck ghostkicks enjoyers eat so well in the latter half of s2. moirails. 2 me !!!!!!!

well I like yuuji and megumi because they’re really cool characters. I feel like they’re just really nice as a pair (not in a ship way aswell) and they compliment each other well. They seem to always have each other’s back like good old childhood friends

geto and satoru is kinda top tear cuz the whole killing each other thing y’know but I think satoru is kinda a bit too annoying so I’m not like very interested. And I hate the kenjaku guy he’s really ruining it for me ugh
