Komm Susser Todd is the best scene despite every other one with Kensuke
Evangelion. I think I love Evangelion. I know I like the Rebuilds. 3 sucks, despite the piano stuff. And I was really worried because the subverted Toji from getting injured but then you see he worked with Nerv. Thankfully, it was explained well in 4, but that gutpunch still sucked in 3. None of the new characters, besides Toji's sister, were needed. They also bog down 4 a bit. And Shinji did ruin everything. Not at the end of 2 but at the end of 3. 1 is superfluous and got rid of the best Kensuke moments. Lame! Although I preferred the Netflix VAs, I thought they were all good. Especially Shinji, he did not sound like an adult man, and Hikari as an adult. There's this annoyance I have with VAs of each sex, cool generic tough male in video games, and girlboss in cartoons. Hikari sounded completely realistic, like a random woman you met on the street, and I loved it. Misato's VA fucking sucked. She was decent when she was gruff in the later films but my god she sucked. I liked 2, I really liked the aquarium scene although it was sad that they hadn't set up Hikari at this point. 2 was a very good rebuild, although I missed a lot of Asuka's characterisation and the episode where Shinji and her had to get on the same wavelength. I think 4 was great. I've heard people say that Gendo doesn't really have a motive and I can't agree with that. But it is weaker and much more obvious. But they actually humanise him! And it's good! That whole segment is good. The literally staged battle with him and Shinji was the only good fight in the Rebuilds. 4 stood out because of how much unique characterisation they gave everyone. And it started to get a little confusing, which is good. The rebuilds did explain way to much, which doesn't really make sense after the first one. The people who know everything are the ones watching the Rebuilds. You can't really watch the Rebuilds without watching the original, I thought about this a lot. Whilst they try to explain a lot, they don't show enough for the these movies to make sense. The only good bid of worldbuilding is Gendo and Fuji going to to the moon. This can then explain how they got Kaworu on their side in the original as well. (Also, whilst it sucks that Asuka is now a clone as well, that's not how I interpret Kaworu. Intertwined with Shinji, not made for him. His consciousness moves between universes.) But, all the fights sucked. The fights were never a strong part of the original, it's like watching The Sopranos for the cunningness of the mafia, except for EOE because of high tightly that was connected to the characters. And all the new music sucked, especially that Third Impact song. What a joke! Speaking of jokes, Mari is a good "fuck you" to the weebs but she does suck. Isn't funny how she has big boobs? Also, whilst you can justify the sexuality of the original, it's just gratuitous in this one. Isn't it great how one of the last lines in all of Evangelion is Shinji talking about how big Mari's boobs are? Despite not really getting the ending of EOE, I think I did find this one more depressing. And it is mainly because of Asuka. She is the second most important character in the original, the only person who it makes sense for Shinji to end up with. And besides her relationship with Kensuke, she has nothing. No Hikari, no mother complex, not Kaji, no relationship with womanhood. She is more of a husk than Rei, a doll for Shinji. And she gets tossed aside for one with bigger boobs. Her ending is somehow sadder than in EOE. She has been given no second chance. I prefer the original.

Hi, may I as for a headcanon with the admirals and thier lady: the men are in town with some other officers for the night and happens to run into thier woman, who has a 'girls night' with her friends. The women are heading for the club with karaoke and the officers decide to tags along. How will the admirals react to discover that she can rock the mic, whenever it is a rock song with high energy or a slow emotional song? Overall, she sings like an angle.
since they change ranks I'm never sure if "the admirals" is meant to be these 3 + fujitora lol. I only take 3 characters at a time so I ended up leaving fuji out. this is a cute request though, thanks for sending anon!
Finding out their s/o is great at singing: Kuzan, Borsalino, & Sakazuki
Tumblr media
Kuzan (Aokiji)
↳ Externally, Kuzan really only shows his surprise with an interested quirk of his brow. Privately though, he always considered himself to be a highly observant person (and he's not wrong, to be fair) so he's kind of caught off guard that he never noticed this about her.
↳ He wonders why she didn't say anything earlier, since it's clearly a passion of hers, but he guesses that inviting him to tag along this night may have been her way of doing that. Not everyone is very forthcoming with things like this, so he doesn't hold it against her or anything.
↳ I feel like Kuzan has a pretty high respect for the arts, so he's pleasantly surprised watching his lady at karaoke. Internally he's lowkey ooh-ing and aah-ing. The man is mesmerized. Especially when she switches songs to a completely different tempo, style, vibe, and still kills the performance? He loves the range.
↳ He doesn't pressure her to, but he really does hope that she'll start singing around him more often. I could see him humming something nearby her, hoping she'd join in and take over... Or lying with his head in her lap while they're lounging around one day, and he calls back to this time at the karaoke bar. "What was that slow one you sang that night? Could I hear it again?"
↳ She probably catches on pretty quickly that he enjoys hearing her voice, so hopefully she'll indulge him now and then. Or at least take him to karaoke night one more time lol
Tumblr media
Sakazuki (Akainu)
↳ Honestly I have trouble even seeing Sakazuki spontaneously agreeing to tag along to a karaoke night, lol. Good luck getting him to sing because he’s dead set on not performing. He's planning to sit there & look grumpy the whole night. He even wouldn't get drunk with them, he doesn't wanna seem like he's enjoying himself there
↳ It actually kind of shakes him up to find out that she’s such a great singer and performer, though. It’s less about that fact itself & a lot more about how he was blindsided by it though. He’s like... Damn. What else do I just not know about her?
↳ It's a bigger thing for him the longer they’ve been together. (I could actually see Sakazuki not knowing this for a decent while into their relationship.) He'd feel a little bad for not knowing that about her. There are a lot of things that he deems frivolous (karaoke included), but if she’s this skilled at singing, then it’s likely something she really enjoys or is passionate about. The fact that he had no clue whatsoever about it means that he’s been a worse partner than he thought, right? He's really averse to the possibility of being inadequate, especially when he was unaware of it for so long
↳ He doesn't say anything to her about it but it eats at him for a little while. Like he'll be at his desk doing paperwork and he'll remember her singing her heart out at karaoke and he gets all salty again. Like "wow so her friends really knew all that about her & I didn't. Okay :|"
↳ Sakazuki also thinks about how she sounded when she sings, because it was really nice. He probably thought everyone else at karaoke that night was either ear-grating or just boring. The man can never share an opinion on her voice though, he's such a brick wall about it. If she asked him what he thought of her performance he'd gruffly just shrug her off... But then when she's singing gently to him while he's stressed out from work, she can literally watch the the tension slowly draining out of his body. Wouldn't verbally admit to enjoying it though. He's so stubborn about it for no reason
Tumblr media
Borsalino (Kizaru)
↳ He is sooo impressed. He loves this revelation. Cause like... once they get to the karaoke bar, he'd realized that he's never heard her sing before. So he could only assume that she just wasn't a big singer. Imagine his shock...
↳ It's kind of cute honestly. He's got his eyebrows raised in interest, lips curling into a little 'o' shape in delighted surprise. How did they go this long without him knowing she sounded so angelic?
↳ Borsalino looks at his s/o's friends, and decides to reign in his reaction when he realizes that none of them are as shocked as he is. He feels so out of the loop. He was probably even poking a little fun at her while she was picking her song before she went up lmao. Like "Y/N don't be nervous about singing in front of me haha. It's just karaoke, no one's taking it too seriously. It's fine if you're a little off-key :)" She is so tired
↳ If his fellow officers look impressed while she's singing, Borsalino just acts like he knew all along, a smug smile on his face. "I know. She's so talented, isn't she?" He definitely starts clapping when she's done. And asks to make a song request too. He's so embarrassing about it
↳ Unlike Sakazuki, he thinks it's such a nice surprise. What other secret talents does she have? Can she play instruments, too? So many questions to ask once they're alone. When she's done with her song, he'd take her under his arm and whisper them all to her, eager to learn more.
↳ Also: he totally asks for a lullaby the next time they go to bed together (I mean this innocently lol). He’s joking but he’s also not

One is a powdered form of steamed green tea leaves, which is used to taste issues like ice cream or sweets. The other meaning is a thick and mildly bitter tea made by frothing the matcha powder with scorching water. They have one of many greatest kinds of curry to choose from that we now have ever seen, together with fish curry, rooster curry, pork curry and even fruit curries such as the Strawberry-flavored one. There are Udon retailers in all places and they are sometimes crowded, however do not be stunned or worried as you usually do not have to wait for a really long time to be seated. This izakaya, or Japanese bar, may be tucked away in the basement of a nondescript workplace constructing in Midtown, but don’t be fooled. Come right here for lunch to try the set menus, which get you a substantial quantity of food and prime out at $23. The finest deal right here is the soba set menu, the place for $12.50 you will get soba with a primary dish, similar to grilled fish or chirashi . Pike/Pine izakaya Suika spun off this extra cavernous sibling up the street, serving the same masterful mashup of Japanese ingesting food. A sashimi sampler is served on a tiny wood staircase, the dan dan noodles are gorgeous in both seems and flavor, and sizzling hot stones serve as tabletop grills for skinny slices of wagyu beef.

Digging through my fic files that are around 10 years old and found a kid!Shepard fic where Juliana got the scar that bisects her mouth. I think at the time, I headcanoned that Spacer kids got to live with parents on ships that weren’t on active duty at the moment so it would be an easy transition to Alliance service once they hit sign-up age. Captains could keep an eye on kids who had leadership potential and train them over the years so they could quickly move up the ladder once they start their military career.
I remember I was reading a lot of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos and Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD back then and modeled Ian Shepard after 1960s Nick Fury. Gruff, intimidating, but a total marshmallow when it comes to his Julie-Girl.
Anyway, have some tiny!Commander.
SSV Fuji, 2165
"All right, tell us what happened from the beginning."
Juliana held a towel against her mouth. "Philip was picking on Naomi, so I told him to stop."
Ian Shepard raised an eyebrow. "Philip is telling everyone that you punched him first."
His daughter scowled. "I wouldn't have punched him if he hadn't shoved me first."
Behind them, Captain Jacobs crossed his arms. "So you're wanting us to believe that my son is picking on other children and then you decided to put a stop to it yourself by starting a fight?"
Juliana's eyes blazed. "But he is!" She let go of her towel and showed off the cut on the left corner of her mouth. "And he doesn't even have the guts to hit a girl with his own fists! He shoved me down and kicked me instead!"
Ian dabbed at her still bleeding mouth with his handkerchief. "If this is true, we want to know why you didn't come to either of us with this information. Why did you go after him yourself?"
She looked away. "I didn't think anyone would believe me. He usually beats kids up in places the guards don't patrol and he picks on the ones he knows won't tell on him. Naomi's my friend; I couldn't just stand around and let her get hurt."
Captain Jacobs uncrossed his arms. "I wanted to get your side of the story before I came to a decision, Juliana. I've already spoken with your friend Naomi and the officer who discovered and broke up your fight." He paused and looked at Ian. "While I don't condone fighting on my ship, I believe you did the right thing at the time. Philip is a lot bigger than you; you put your friend's safety before your own welfare. I'm ashamed of my son's actions and I want to apologize to you for not realizing what he was doing.”
“He was the one to be a jerk, not you.”
"Believe me, Philip will be apologizing to you in person and he will be punished for his behavior. I raised him to treat others with respect and he has been ignoring my lessons. I want to ask you, Juliana. What do you think is a fitting punishment for his crimes?"
Juliana looked from the Captain to her dad, then back again. "I think whatever you decide would be enough, Sir," she said cautiously. Looking at her dad again, she sat up straighter. "But I want him to know that there are people that won't take his bullying. Now that the rest of us know that someone is willing to stand up to him, he's going to have a harder time pushing us around."
Captain Jacobs nodded. "I'll be sure to let him know." He clapped Ian on the shoulder. "Your girl has a good head on her shoulders. I see leadership potential in her; you should be proud."
Ian nodded. "I am, Sir." He grinned at Juliana. "Damned proud."
Juliana watched as the Captain left the medical bay. "Am I in trouble?" she asked, her voice wavering and all the bravado vanishing once she and her father were alone.
"Nah," he replied, pulling out a first aid kit. "I sure as hell know that you're not in trouble with me." He dabbed a pad of gauze with antiseptic and pressed it to the cut. The ragged edges bubbled and he winced in sympathy, but he was quietly surprised that she didn't cry out. He'd seen grown men react to the stuff worse than his daughter's short hiss of pain. "This is probably going to scar."
"Good."
He tilted his head. "Good?"
"Yeah, so when I get bigger and people ask about it, I can tell them that if they thought this was bad, they should have seen the other guy."
Laughing, he took a wet cloth and cleaned away the drying blood that had dripped down her mouth and chin. "Now, let's see the damage on your hands." Clearing a space on the gurney Juliana was sitting on, Ian boosted himself up to sit at her side. Taking her right hand in his, he cleaned her skinned knuckles. "What happened here?"
"I hit him in the mouth." She shut her eyes tightly when her dad poured more antiseptic on her scrapes.
"And what did I teach you about fighting?"
"Go for the body shots," she recited. "Hitting someone in the face will up the chances of you breaking your hand." She cracked open an eye. "But he would have hit me again and his face was the closest target, Dad." She had been aiming for his cheek, but Philip ducked his head down and her knuckles wound up skimming his teeth before she could correct her move.
"I'm just glad that there aren't any tooth fragments in your hands," he told her. "Your mother…"
She winced even more than she had with the antiseptic. "She's gonna be mad, isn't she?"
"For a little while, maybe, but then I'm betting she'll be proud of you for standing up to a bully." He picked up her injured hand and kissed her fingers, just like he used to when she was five and she came to him with skinned knees. I'll kiss it and make it better, he'd told her, and it had always been enough to stop her tears. His little girl was eleven now. He hated the fact that she was growing up so quickly, but at the same time, he was pleased to get to see the person she was shaping up to be. "Just like I am."
"Really?"
"Really." Letting go of her hand, he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and tucked her snugly against his side. "You think I was telling the Captain I was damned proud just to hear myself talk?"
Juliana beamed as best as her split lip would allow her to. "I love you, Dad."
He kissed the crown of her head. "I love you too, my Julie-Girl." Hopping off the gurney, he put the first aid kit away. Tucking his hands underneath her arms, he lifted Juliana and then set her on her feet. "Now, did you finish your homework?"
"Yes, sir."
"And all your chores?"
"Yes, sir. Before dinner."
"Good. Then let's head to the exercise room. It's time we moved from basic self-defense to some more advanced techniques." He looked at her sternly. "I'm not saying that you should take matters into your own hands all the time if something like this ever comes up again, especially if you can inform an adult of the situation first. There are proper channels to go through with stuff like this, and I want you to follow the rules, is that clear?"
She nodded. "Absolutely clear, sir."
Ian looked down at her and marveled at her serious expression. She might have her mother's high cheekbones and flame-red hair, but it was like looking into a mirror at his daughter's blue eyes. He reached out and ruffled her hair, thinking that even with inheriting his stubborn looking chin and slightly squared jaw that she was going to grow into a strikingly pretty woman. Gonna be a force to be reckoned with when she gets older, he thought wistfully, wishing again that he could keep her this age forever.
"Then come on, Shepard," he said, clearing his throat and ruffling her hair again, just to hear her squawk indignantly. "Let's work on not getting knocked down so you don’t get kicked in the face again. If we have time, I’ll teach you how to throw a punch where you won't get a fist full of teeth."

I went to see the "Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution" premiere at Anime-Expo!
Hey, everyone! I just returned from Anime-Expo where I was lucky enough to've seen the world premiere of the 22nd Pokemon film, Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution. Wanted to share some of my experiences on it!
I'll start with some information about the event, before going into details on the movie itself. First of all, this was (as far as I understand) the very first time any Japanese-language with English-subtitled Pokemon animation has been officially (and legally) released in North America (and possibly outside of Japan in general?) so I wanted to make sure I attended this pretty momentous occasion. The event itself was handled very well by the staff and there was a great bilingual host who oversaw the whole thing and really hyped up the audience. After the film screening was finished, the three related guests of honor, Kunihiko Yuyama (co-animation director), Motonori Sakakibara, (co-animation director) and Rica Matsumoto (Japanese voice actress of Satoshi/Ash) were brought to the stage to answer a few prepared questions and audience questions. Afterward, Rica Matsumoto performed "Mezase Pokemon Master" live for the audience, which was an absolute treat. Finally, after the reveal of Armored Mewtwo's upcoming appearance in Pokemon Go, we took a "family photo" with a mascot Pikachu making an appearance! The whole thing was a total blast.
Some key points involving the Q&A session:
Rica Matsumoto was in particular very excited to visit LA, especially because she had worked on the Japanese dub for Beverly Hills 90210 and got to visit the real location after wanting to for so long! In addition, she was so taken aback by the audience's enthusiasm for "Satoshi", knowing how they were far more familiar with "Ash", but felt a strong connection to them through the character and Pokemon in general. The two animation co-directors Mr. Sakakibara and Mr. Yuyama shared similar comments, being blown away by the audience's emotional reaction. The screening also gave them major nostalgic flashbacks to first working on the original over 20 years ago. They were also so grateful.
I was fortunate enough to be chosen to ask the first of the three audience questions. First, I thanked them for giving us the opportunity to see this film in its original language with subtitles, as this was a tremendous honor to begin with. After mentioning that the American fandom was very appreciative for the English dubbed version of the TV series and movies, I asked if they would be able to give us any other future opportunities to see ANY other Japanese-language Pokemon animation down the line. Mr. Yuyama said they have plans, with Rica Matsumoto following with "Count on it!!" Nothing further than that, but definitely a good sign!
The next question from the audience asked about a trailer featuring footage involving what appeared to be an older version of Misty, why it was cut and what its involvement was to the movie's early stages of development. Mr. Yuyama simply responded with (paraphrasing, here) "While that was meant to show the image of an adult, the character in question was not actually an older version of Misty. The haircut is very similar though, I can see why you would make that mistake!". Rica Matsumoto adds (again, paraphrasing) "It just goes show that there's so many pretty girls in Pokemon, it's easy to mistake them for each other sometimes!" (Personal note: obviously this is sort of 'dodging the actual question', but it's likely they either weren't allowed to go into detail as to what that early trailer was all about, or possibly forgot about the details since it had been so long ago.)
The final audience question asked about what led to the decision to re-do the original film with CG animation. Mr. Sakakibara mentioned that they had wanted to do a CG Animated Pokemon film for a long time, but thanks to the collaboration with the 3D animation studio they worked with (I've forgotten the studio's name unfortunately, sorry!) they were able to finally make it happen. They chose Mewtwo Strikes Back as the experiment piece in order to try pushing the original character animation even further with the expressiveness and emotion.
I'm sure fans of her know this already, but Rica Matsumoto is an absolute ROCK STAR on stage. She loved teasing the audience and getting them amped up, commanding us to get louder and louder! "When I say 'Pokemon', you say 'Getto da ze!'" was a real highlight. To her, "Mezase Pokemon Master" is THE defining Pokemon song.
Next, I'll talk about the film itself. To those of you who don't want to be potentially spoiled on some of the differences between this and the original movie, skip this part!
The subtitle track for the film used all of the official English names of all characters, including the humans, Pokemon creatures, attack names, locations and even the nicknames of the guest characters' starters ("Bruteroot" and "Shellshocker"). For the most part, the translation was very close to the original Japanese dialogue, but there were definitely a few liberties taken at times. Team Rocket's motto was changed to reflect the English adaptation ("Prepare for trouble and make it double" etc.) along with referring to Ash/Satoshi as "Twerp" (instead of "JARI-BOY!"). There was also a very obvious 'joke' on the translator's part involving a new scene where Brock/Takeshi hits on Neesha/Sweet, proclaiming something about his "jelly donuts" (ending in the ol' Misty-dragging-him-away-by-the-ear gag). As this scene had completely new dialogue, I wouldn't be able to cross-check whatever the 100% accurate translation would be off-hand. A couple other liberties taken (in a way), were that certain lines throughout the movie were word-for-word 'translated' as lines from the original English dub of Pokemon: The First Movie. Thankfully these were rare, but one that definitely sticks out was the "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you DO with the gift of life, that determines who you are." at the film's climax. Lastly, Mewtwo's words asking "Was I created by God?" and the scientists' response, were adapted in the subtitles as "Was I created by nature?". (Personal note: Likely this was to avoid flat-out religious references.)
The film begins with Dr. Fuji and his crew retrieving the Mew fossil from the ancient ruins. The "Birth of Mewtwo" sequence involving Amber/Ai is NOT included in this version of the story; the following scene leads directly into Mewtwo's awakening in the tube, to which the movie plays out as you remember it.
Dr. Fuji's laboratory is tremendously redesigned, but the same events transpire.
Mewtwo's armor is, as you've noticed, also fully re-designed. We see many re-directed (in terms of cinematography) scenes from the sequence of his servitude to Giovanni/Sakaki, including Gary/Shigeru's from-behind cameo. The main element of difference in the armor's usage is, just before blowing up the Team Rocket base upon defying Giovanni, it transforms into a binding 'prison' sort of state, to keep Mewtwo confined if he ever fought back...of course, he breaks it easily and flies off, just as before.
The first sequence where we see Ash, Misty/Kasumi and Brock starts a little earlier than in the original, showing Ash more excited and offering to help set up the table for lunch. It then cuts to slightly later where he's tired and slumped over the table. The Pirate Trainer "Raymond" appears again (still with all his glorious Engrish), now with a slight redesign involving bigger hair and the theme song battle sequence plays out. Worth noting, during the 3-on-1 against Pikachu, his Golem is replaced with a Drowzee. (Personal note: Likely to circumvent the "Thunderbolt should be ineffective against a Ground-type" argument.) We also see glimpses of Mewtwo and the mind-controlled Nurse Joy viewing the battle. Just before Dragonite shows up to deliver the invitation, we also see a bit of the gang's other Pokemon used in the movie: Vulpix, Psyduck, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charizard, eating Pokemon food.
LOTS more trainers in the dock scene. The pier master Miranda/Voyager actually speaks of Wingulls showing signs of how bad the storm is, warning everyone again. We see a few more trainers attempt to travel to New Island, including one who tries Surfing on their Kingler and another who is carried by their Scyther...neither of them make it, along with whoever tried flying with their Fearow like in the original. RIP.
The Vikings-the-mostly-live-in-Minnesota are replaced with an equally-funny costume theme of the Team Rocket trio as some tourist-trap sailors utilizing a Lapras-shaped ferry service. Brock comments on how conveniently they showed up and they all get on. We then get a very Disneyland 3D Attraction-style sequence of the two trios riding through the storm before it crashes and Misty sends out Staryu to try and save the day. Another extended sequence of Ash, Misty and Brock clinging for dear life to Staryu plays out, including a really gorgeous orchestral arrangement of...the Sun & Moon Wild Pokemon Battle theme, of all things!
Ash and the others meet the other guest trainers. This is where the short added scene of Brock hitting on Neesha is added.
In general, while the grand majority of the things that happen in each scene are the same as they are in the original, a lot of the animation is expanded upon and really pushed in terms of expressiveness. Often this makes them longer than how they were before, but it's definitely paced out properly to fit with the adjustments they made.
The battle arena sequence plays out and all 3 of the battles between Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard Vs. their super-clones are extended with new fight choreography and additional attack exchanges, including with later-added techniques like Energy Ball and Leaf Storm. This scene also features a completely new background music track from the one used in the original film (later used quite a bit in the anime).
The sequence of Mewtwo capturing all of the humans' Pokemon plays out, also with new background music as opposed to the original. A few new shots of the trainers trying to guard their Pokemon from being captured are added.
After the super-clones emerge, Mew appears to save Ash from being splattered against a wall, the Pokemon and their clones brutally beat each other, now with new sweeping camera angles and new music instead of the original.
When Ash rejoins Misty and Brock after climbing down from the castle, a few bits of dialogue are slightly played around with, but leads to the same untimely demise. Some new DBZ-esque glow effects are applied to when Ash is struck by the two psychic blasts and his turned-to-stone state is a bit more like crystal. Pikachu trying to Thundershock Ash back to life lingers a bit more, to show the desperation in Pikachu's attempt. When the other Pokemon begin shedding their tears, their actual sounds aren't heard and the scene is silent minus the background music.
The memory erasure happens yet again, sending everyone back to the docks. From just after Ash sees Mew flying in the sky, commenting on it, up through Team Rocket's sign-off on the now-abandoned New Island, the orchestral arrangement of the Pokemon Red & Blue Credits theme plays. For the movie credits, we're treated to a new remix of "Kaze to Isshi Ni" (featuring Shokotan) along with some 2D paintings of Ash, Misty and Brock traveling. One shows a flock of Wingull near the dock area! At the end, we see Mewtwo and the clones flying off to what appears to be Mount Quena from the "Mewtwo Returns" TV special.
Finally, as is always the case, a very short teaser of the "Pokemon 2020" film, showing a 2D-animated Pikachu in the style of the Sun & Moon series.
There might have been some things I missed, but that's everything I could recount! If you have any other questions, I'll try and answer them as best as I can. To anyone else who was there for the screening, feel free to add anything else you like! Overall, highly recommend folks who enjoyed the original Mewtwo Strikes Back movie to go see this when the English version comes out!

New prince of tennis chapter 265-266 (+ new captains bonus)
Told you I’d make this a thing!
The chapters start off with what seems to e the announcement for a 20 years anniversary book called ‘tenipuri party,’ that’ll be released in summer (along the results of the popularity vote?)
The chapter starts off with the subtitle of ‘unpredictable, like the shadow’
Tumblr media
Sanada stresses him taking on the opponent on their fields of expertise. Oswal comes in how he was completely fooled by Sanada’s earlier act, and says he’ll take on Sanada’s ‘makkou joubu’ (Os tries, hahaha)
The next point is played. Sanada starts off announcing “Swift,” and Os immediately anticipates the fuurinkazan he’s heard of from Jonathan. However, as he prepares to return it, Sanada finishes; “Swift, as a storm.” The ball stops at the baseline and even seems to bounce back a bit, as black lines signify the wind swirling and clearing.
Tumblr media
woosh
After boasting how he won’t let oshishou-sama change flow from his favour Os hits the ball back unfavourably from I assume Sanada’s serve, immediately seeing he opened up space for Sanada’s ground smash like the fire--
“Invade, like a blaze!”
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, Os is literally blown away.
One of the spectators announces that Sanada’s ‘FuuRinKaZan’ has evolved into ‘RanShinEnBou’, with each of the kanji one-upping the original ones. Turns out Sanada hadn’t just been polishing his patience, but his moves as well!
Tumblr media
“Come!”
Man I love Sanada’s smirk it’s really good. Os is frustrated, and Sanada tells him to come at him with all he has, so he can crush him head-on into the ground. “It can’t be helped...” Os comes in. “For the sake of the french reps who believe in me and put me here... Though I was warned for it by the grandmother of my village...”
Tumblr media
...this is one of the hand jutsu things from naruto isn’t it. What’s Os gonna do with it? We’ll find out in chapter 266!
Sanada, Byoudouin and Duke are all like ?! oh shut?! ...when Camus stops him and tells him his revolution is not now. He forfeits the match for Os.
This was the part where I was like, “Excuse me?” Firstly, it feels absolutely odd to stop Sanada’s match here, and for this reason. Secondly, this means no Camus vs Duke match, one that was hyped for like ages.
Tumblr media
That shoulder touch is a meagre comfort.
“That last bit was a bit dangerous, wasn’t it?” We turn around and see... Ryoma?! Apparently this boy really did pull a Yukimura and healed really really fast, when he was on heart monitor and in coma hardly... what should it be, half an hour ago?
The chapter subtitle ‘golden age’ is namedropped for the princes of tennis! Which is cool. Ludo also comes back, on horseback and well--
Tumblr media
Seriously, his horse is only getting bigger. And Camus invited him to go greet the victors with grace.
The scene cuts to Camus and Duke, with Duke saying that it ended without a fight between them (yeah) and Camus that it must have been a prank of fate (no, it wasn’t. YOU made Os forfeit.)
“Let’s settle it here.”
Duke asks him if he can hear the voice of tennis. Camus says “Merci. Of course.” Camus then continues that the middle schoolers, of which you have to enter at least three, and how you use them might be key to this tournament. The young talents of Japan who suppresed France’s young revolutionaries will surely be the ones to lead the tennis world into a new era.
Duke comes in “By the way, have you seen the outcome of the match between us?” At which they shake hands and Camus says “Go and cause a revolution in the world.”
Tumblr media
We cut to Germany’s training halls. We see Atobe right across Tezuka! Will they duke it out before the semifinals??? Only Konomi knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now a review of both of the chapters. To me, it seems painfully obvious that both the final developments in Sanada’s match as well as the match between Camus and Duke were cut, possibly because of popularity/sales reasons, possibly because of the new captains chapters. This is an absolute bummer and in my opinion a huge miss on Konomi’s part, considering how much Camus was hyped and the potential Duke showed in his exhibition match against Germany with Fuji. And now he seems to be pulling out all stops and pulling in all nostalgia bu having Atobe across the court from Tezuka... I sincerely hope these two aren’t gonna duke it out again.
Now regarding the new captains chapters, the translations of all of them have been put online so I won’t be doing a more in-depth summary, haha.
Seigaku’s is nice enough, with the faction wars between Kaidoh’s stoic one and Momo’s love and peace one, ultimately resolved with what seems to be like the polar opposite of Inui juice: ‘Katsuo broth’ Katsuo got the hugest glow-up btw. I wonder if they learned from Shiten’s nagashi soumen?
The next chapter; Oh my god why is Hyoutei naked. The answer is because of Hiyoshi Kingdom allowing him to see to the skin, but why. I’d have loved to have seen some actual captaining struggles but at least we know Sakaki is ripped and someone on the writing team has a huge bonheur for Hyoutei.
Higa actually has the most decent chapter, even if the developments are basically “All members of the team leave, Aragaki is left on his own, Higa’s OBs come to pay a visit, everyone comes back again.”
Shitenhouji’s... It’s great that Zaizen does his captainy thing. It’s great that Shiraishi and all the captains before him actually making the schedule and having a bunch of set tasks caues him to respect his seniors (even when at first he was like ‘nope not doing this’ upon seeing the list), and it’s wonderful that the team wants to support Zaizen anyway despite him not opening with a joke or two. Cue Zaizen actually making a full boke face, with the subtitle “Turns out my senpais weren’t idiots after all.” That could have... used a bit more buildup, tbh. Logically I could have understood where it came from were it not that the rest of the chapter was more focussed on captain’s duties, and that Shiraishi himself wasn’t great at comedy, either.
Which brings me to Rikkai. Hotly debated doesn’t cut it. I said in the past that Kirihara maybe doesn’t have the personality and/or mental stability to take the role of captain... I kind of want to take that all back now. The problem is that Konomi’s equation makes sense, in a sense: Rikkai needs a buchou more stable and supportive, someone more like Yukimura, even if he only has a reputation to be good at lobs. Kirihara is stronger but less stable, and he doesn’t have the greatest reputation in the club with his history. However, Kirihara does seem to be fit for a role more like Sanada’s, harsher in the core but nonetheless supporting. Except with the way Konomi goes about it, all of my feelings end up feeling cheated. Tamagawa comes out of thin air, he’s only said to have a reputation to be good at lobs, all of Rikkai but especially the troika is almost uncharacteristically harsh, Kirihara enters Devil Mode again frustrated about it all (and because he stumbled over a ball cart) and then Tamagawa is shown to be really popular, at which Kirihara takes the fukubuchou cap... If the chapter had like three times the length and some actual decent characterisation for both Rikkai and Tamagawa, I might have been able to accept it. Right now, however, I don’t, and I wish it all to be just a prank from Yukimura’s side so that Kirihara might claim the captain spot with his own power. Because that, seems much more like the Rikkai thing to do than... this. On top of that, this negates all development he’d have gotten from his match together with Shiraishi, which also frustrates me. I agree with Konomi that that more violent part of Kirihara is kind of part of his appeal, over a softer uwu baby side, but if anything, he could have restored him to off-match Kantou Kirihara and make him captain that way, because that characterisation is literally my favourite and I miss it a lot.

Episode 44: Christmas is here and the Geisters are targeting Santa Clause! But how do you tell 4 aggressive robots that the person they’re trying to kidnap doesn’t exist? At the same time, Kouta’s dad is at a Christmas party but haven’t bought any gifts yet and Kouta’s mom dresses up as Santa in his stead. Ho ho ho-ly shit!
Episode 45: While going to Egypt during New Year Kouta and his friends stumble over the Emerald Stone, a very powerful artifact that the Geisters want to use to seal away Exkaiser forever.
Episode 46: Now wielding the powerful soul stealing shield the Geisters lays a plan to lure out the Kaisers and once and for all take them out. But unfortunately for Exkaiser, the fight happens on an oil platform and what is this? God Max is...
Episode 47: The Geisters are being competent and are trying to force the raker brothers and Exkaister to reveal themselves to the public, but of course, time is ticking and the playing field starts to look pretty grim for Exkaiser.
Episode 48: The final battle arrives and a lot of pressure rests on Exkaiser when he has to save his entire team and Tokuda! Luckily for him, Kouta is by his side but when Dino Geist has had enough and takes the kid for a space ride things ...escalates.

I completed the ultimate journey to prove my love for Ruby Kurosawa (1/19/2019)
Tumblr media
Or maybe the ultimate journey would have been to go to Numazu just to eat that giant Ruby birthday parfait at the Sun! Sun! Sunshine cafe, but I never got to do that and I think I have successfully atoned with this.
I’m going to describe this in like... excruciating detail just so that a record remains for anyone else looking into embarking on this same journey.
So basically, if you visit Numazu there are unique stamps and sometimes badges of Aqours members you can collect at different businesses around town. The hardest one of all I believe, is a Ruby badge. (Tied with a Kanan badge in the same area.) See below:
Tumblr media
The red circle is the main Numazu city area, the blue circle is Uchiura area where a lot of the anime took place, and the pink circle... is Ose Cape (大瀬崎)  where I had to go for the Ruby badge.
Every time I have ever been to Numazu, I always left whining that I could not get that one holy grail of a badge.... until now.
There are only two buses leaving from Numazu city which go all the way out to Ose Cape on the weekend (many buses go in that direction but not all the way) and they are at 10:25 and 16:35. (Also 6:35 am but only on weekdays.)
Tumblr media
However, the last bus back From Ose Cape on weekends is at 12:09.
Tumblr media
So basically what this means is, if you take that 16:35 bus from Numazu on the weekend... you ain’t getting back. So the only option on the weekend is to take the 10:25 there, which takes over an hour and gets in at around 11:40,  and from there then you have about 30 minutes to make sure as hell you get that badge and get back on the bus.
Admittedly it is easier on weekdays, as there is a bus back at 18:15, but I hope you like looking at the ocean because unless you plan on diving or something that’s what you’ll be doing for the next six hours until the next bus comes....
So I decided to try for that 10:25 to 12:09 run. Before getting on the bus, I agreed with myself that if I missed the 12:09 bus back I would be fine with walking 3 hours back to Uchiura if that’s what I had to do. But on the way there I soon realized that would not be possible. Not because of the distance, but because of the roads: The farther you get from the center of Numazu, the thinner the roads get and there is no sidewalk.
Tumblr media
On one side a mountain, on the other a drop down into the abyss.
By the way this has nothing to do with this story but on the way you pass by this abandoned bus....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a “bus restaurant bar” and looks like it still has alcohol bottles inside... it also says “Yokohama Bay City” on it, which is nowhere near Numazu, so damn I would love to know the story how it ended up here.
But anyway.
So I got to Ose Cape and left the bus in quite a panic because I felt I just could not afford miss that 12:09 bus back.
I must have looked it, or at least looked very out of place, because a man came out of a diving shop and said “Can I help you?”
So I was like “Um umm um.... where can I buy a Ruby badge....”
And he was like oh, follow me. So I followed him to the gift shop next door which he opened for me and sold me a badge. Whether it was actually open at this time or he opened it just for me, I’m not sure. But at this point I was so embarrassed I ended up just buying one badge because I couldn’t bring myself to ask for more. BUT YOU BETTER FUCKING BELIEVE I WILL TREASURE IT.
The display they had in the gift shop:
Tumblr media
The badge:
Tumblr media
The huge mob of divers on the beach:
Tumblr media
And thus finally completed my Numazu Ruby badge collection! (....Or at least, that’s what I would have said if I didn’t double check only to realize there was a new one I didn’t have yet, but luckily that one was in a MUCH easier place.)
At this point I didn’t even want to risk getting lost to find the Kanan badge that is also supposed to be here somewhere and just headed back to the bus stop.
This is where our story should end and would have ended if wasn’t A COMPLETE IDIOT. But I actually ended up walking back part of the way even though I did make the bus.
For the sake of helping anyone else that may find themself in this situation (or perhaps just for your amusement more likely...) I will continue the story for anyone who wants to read....
I got back on the bus so quickly I didn’t notice that I actually didn’t have money for it. Buses in Numazu don’t take IC cards like the buses in bigger cities usually do, and you can only pay with exact change. There is a machine to make change on the bus but it can’t take anything over a 1000 yen bill. I only had a 5000 yen bill, which I could not break down, and about 600 yen in change. I knew 600 yen wasn’t enough to get me back to Numazu or even the Uchiura area, but if I rode the bus longer than 600 yen I would have to pay 5000 yen without getting any change back.
So I rode for about 600 yen, got off the bus and was like... Lol K now what.
I wasn’t too panicked though. It was a beautiful frikkin day and I still had six hours to make it back to Numazu before the CYaRon live viewing show I was planning to go to that evening.
I decided to just try walking the remaining 1-2 hours back to Uchiura where there is much more civilization, but soon re-realized that wasn’t possible. After walking for about 20-30 minutes the road just got too narrow with no visibility and I decided it was just too dangerous to risk it.
Luckily I made it far enough to be back in an area with more buses though, and I did technically have money for the bus, but just not the right kind of money. So I started looking around for some type of business where I could buy something and get change for 5000. I saw nothing. One side of the road was houses, on the other was the ocean and Mount Fuji.
So I was like... OK... my options are a.) Risk getting hit by a car, b.) Knock on the door of some random house and beg for change, c.) Call a taxi? But even if I did I wouldn’t know how to tell them where I was (....between a house and Mount Fuji) and if even I did then I might as well just spend 5000 yen to take the bus anyway.
Still, I wasn’t too panicked because after all it wasn’t raining, it wasn’t hot, and I was in one of my fucking favorite places in the whole world. There are much worse situations to get stuck in.
So I took out my phone again and started looking for some kind of business in the area.
I found... and I still can’t believe how lucky I was... a mandarin orange warehouse. But attached to that mandarin orange warehouse was an agricultural bank... which was not open on weekends but BUT!! It had an ATM which was open AND SOMEHOW accepted my out of prefecture bank card!! So I was able to get some 1000 yen bills to take the bus. PHEW!!!
So I walked back to that nearest bus stop between the house and Mount Fuji. There I took the below photo (Fuji just visible in the top right) and sat for about an hour waiting for the next bus to come.
Tumblr media
But I did not mind in the slightest.
When the bus finally came I took it back to Uchiura where I went to the seafood restaurant that had the actual final Ruby badge. Then waited at that bus stop for another hour to get back to Numazu. I took this photo of my bag then with, finally, the complete set (for now anyway) of seven badges in it:
Tumblr media
I got back to Numazu in plenty of time for that CYaRon viewing and that’s the story.
So if you’re ever going to visit the Numazu area and want some advice hit me up!
Or maybe don’t, re-reading this catastrophe....
But it did all work out fine in the end and I think I succeeded in proving my love for Ruby.
Kicked off of the bus For not quite enough money It’s snowing on Mt. Fuji

Godzilla: Planet Eater
WARNING-THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS TO GODZILLA PLANET EATER!
TURN BACK NOW IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE YET ON NETFLIX!
Tumblr media
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
So where do I begin with the third installment of the anime Godzilla films?
Well...I guess I’ll start off by saying that this movie took me through a bunch of different twists and turns like no other, which is a good thing. Looking at the third film in its entirety, you go through a range of genres starting with (nearly old school) sci-fi, transitioned into suspense then a thriller and even some aspects of horror thrown in for good measure, all before coming back around to sci-fi once more to wrap things up. I can’t tell you when or what the last movie I saw was that took me through a range of different genres (maybe Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom) but, it all felt fluent to me.
Now, it must be absolutely stated and emphasized that this is NOT, I say again, NOT your typical Godzilla movie. While the large dominant force has a significant presence in the movie, you are not watching it to see Godzilla fight Ghidorah. The anime trilogy was never meant to be a traditional Godzilla set of films, instead they are meant to be much more that carries a high degree meaning. This is where I kind of find myself frustrated with people that say that “this trilogy sucks” or “this is the worse thing ever made” or even “I thought this was Godzilla, not some lumbering log taking a swing at a noodle for five minutes. Godzilla is meant to be beating on monsters, where’s the action!?”. There is none of that present in these movies and it’s never something you should expect when they are trying something different with the character(s).
If you want Godzilla being Godzilla and only care about monster fighting monster action, then do not watch this. Please, spare yourself and others of your disappointment because these movies don’t have what you wanted.
With all that out of the way, I feel very confident in saying that this was absolutely my favorite of the three anime films. It has great tension, excellent build up, and keeps the audience engaged in my humble opinion. There are things that you wanted to do but you obviously can’t. There are things that you want to say but it’s pointless and so many in between actions that you wish you could tell Haruo what to do. The atmosphere was amped up from the last two, giving the film a very gothic feel with the grey clouds, the confined underground spaces and the inevitable storms later on in the film but that all changes in the last 15-20 minutes or so.
Now let’s talk about the characters. Straight away, my girl Yuko is in the movie but also not in the movie. I’m kinda okay with that, Dr. Martin does point out that she’s being kept alive by the nano-machines, however she is essentially brain dead. Then there’s Miana and Maina, both are pretty good characters even though one has less screen time than the other and also serves as a serious WTF moment in the film...not counting risque love scene (not the first in a Godzilla movie, surely won’t be the last either). Metphies...that slimy suave son of a bitch! He had a plan all along and man did I feel betrayed by him something fierce. As a last physical villain for the protagonist, he played everything so calmly it makes me wanna toss him off the slopes of Mt. Fuji. He was perfect, especially for being the last hurtle Haruo would have to get over in order to be on a straighter path of redemption. Dr. Martin was pretty well in this movie and of all the characters given, I feel like he has the most delivery of information that shouldn’t be tossed away so easily. He has enough charm and charisma that he comes off as a strong support character that ultimately influences the last act of the film. Now there’s Haruo...I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy this character, like for real. He’s so flawed and has so much raw emotion that he makes for the best redeemable character. At the start of his journey, he wanted nothing more to return to earth, kill Godzilla and live a life anew. In the next film his world was turned upside down from a devastating defeat at the hands of Godzilla Earth. While his hatred was still strong, he wanted the others to be safe, more so for Yuko and once the nano-machines started taking a hold, Haruo became indecisive and filled with sadness, even confusion (but this would prove to be something very important in Planet Eater). Now having gone from hatred to lament, Haruo no longer knows what’s viable for humanities survival. He’s scared to lose but also wants to win and when the end of the film arrives, he does the best redeemable action that shall right his flaws of the past via going head on with Godzilla, Yuko at his side in the last remaining vulture, demanding Godzilla finish the job and erase the remnants of the past (meaning Haruo, Yuko, and the vulture).
Now onto the monster...what can I really say about them? Oh. I got it! DAAAAAMMMMNNNNNNNN!!!!!!
That’s no exaggeration either, like holy hell, Godzilla and Ghidorah are woof, spectacular. Godzilla now sports more of his heisei, closely to that of Burning Godzilla I believe while also letting out some of his deeper rumbles that you hear in the first movie when he wasn’t using the 2000′s roar. In a way, you still end up feeling for Godzilla even though he’s an ultimate engine of destruction, or at least in the eyes of the humans while the earth claims him as its rightful protector.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any bigger, here comes Ghidorah out from the divine spheres of some other dimension, nearly dwarfing Godzilla with just a single head and body. Who knew Metphies was a duelist to call on three divine beasts? I sure didn’t but back to the movies version of Ghidorah, his unique design is pleasantly fresh, almost reminiscent of the ghost aliens from Final Fantasy The Spirits Within. The alien stature of each head does make him feel like an literal alien dragon of the heavens rather than being just a golden three-headed dragon. Just like Godzilla before him, Ghidorah does sport an original roar that makes him sound more like an actual beast while his showa roars can be heard each time the Exsif tokens and the gamatron device he always carries. So in a way, this does feel more like a mix of the showa and the heisei films in the end. While we know of Godzilla’s powers, Ghidorah is more “upgraded” in this film than in any other film we’ve seen him in. For starters, since he is from a different dimension/universe, our natural laws don’t affect him but the caviat is that he can only be summoned by the Exsif with a priest being the gods eyes. With the priest alive, Ghidorah cannot be harmed, he can phase through objects and living creatures (as seen when Godzilla tries grabbing Ghidorah the first time). He also has the ability to curve any form of energy attack fired at him when the Exsif priest is alive. When summoned and out in the universe, he creates a very unique time distortion meaning that if you were to attack him, instruments have zero chance of doing anything against the divine god let alone weaponry. The time distortion field means that you could be destroyed at any time before or after other events in an area as seen when Ghidorah attacks the Aratrum. He also has the ability to nullify any and all disturbances or attacks if his jaws are locked onto a target. An example of this would be when Godzilla tries to go burning like he did with MechaGodzilla City but Ghidorah knew what he was doing and so forth started draining Godzilla of his energy and his heat, despite the atoms inside the body vibrating intensely. At the same time, Godzilla had his protective barrier up but since our natural laws don’t apply, he’s able to latch on even while his opponents defensive barrier is up. Even though these powers give Ghidorah such a large advantage, he has a huge glaring weakness that he can’t really protect against, that being him bound to a Exsif priest. If the “Eye of Ghidorah” were to be destroyed, this makes it so that the monster would have to abide by our universes set of laws. That means he can no longer phase through objects or use any defensive measurements as displayed when Godzilla tail swipes the mash of bodies together in order to break free. Following up on the attack, he unleashes his atomic breath to all three heads and while the last head of Ghidorah tried to deflect, the power proved to be too overwhelming and thus destroyed the beast. Lastly, I want to discuss Ghidorahs appearance. Yes, sure he only appears as three heads and three necks, that does not mean that’s his final look. Not a chance. When Metphies shows has his earth followers praise the god and die horribly, Adam is given the vision of what he looks like and as such, Ghidorah has that large body, two huge wings and two golden tails. His final appearance is more attune to what we all know him as so don’t go saying “Ghidorah’s supposed to be one creature, not these individual noodless”.
Tumblr media
BONUS
Mothra also makes an appearance and by god I was screaming so hard in excitement to myself. While she doesn’t make a physical appearance in the battle, you do see her egg (which my speculations were right as for what was behind the large door) and then hear her iconic croons. Mothra does make an appearance to Haruo in order to make him snap out of Metphies deception with the “Eye of Ghidorah”. While she is only cast in shadow, she does have the silhouette similar to a butterfly and just like King Of The Monsters portrayal of the divine moth, she is also more insect looking. This was such an epic piece of the movie that I couldn’t stop being excited. Best surprise ever in anime.
The thematics of the movie itself is very interesting and is essentially told up front during the movie. With Planet of Monsters, the hidden theme (at least hidden to me) there was humanities courage, how Haruo was courageous enough to go toe to toe with Godzilla in the hopes humanity will prevail. In City On The Edge Of Battle, the underlying theme was technology. The Bela-seludo made MechaGodzilla and when facility was destroyed alongside the iconic war machine, the machines crafted a city of metal that could replicate anything it memorized. The bela-seludo were proud of their achievement as well as Yuko wanting to use what they have to destroy Godzilla. When that failed and into Planet Eater, the Exsif used their religion which is a heavy theme throughout the movie. With their only chance of destroying Godzilla now gone, everyone was desperate in trying to find something to believe in. In comes the Exsif and their creed, helping those in despair and using their religion to kick start something that would turn out to be so horrible that it needed to be stopped.
In reality, this trilogy parallels with the world and history of our past. When wars were waged using only swords, bows, spears and so on, no one had an upper hand over the other. This meant that those who would have glory would be those who were the most courageous, who have the most courage. As time progressed, the worlds technology started to become more and more sophisticated. Look no further to the first and second World Wars, where the advancement of technology took a strong hold over the world, especially with that of the introduction of tanks and war planes. Each country invested sooner or later and to each their own, they believed they had the best tanks in the world until technology upped itself each time to undermine what came before. Now wars are waged based on religion, who’s creed is the true creed, who’s lord is the correct lord. Of course, I could also be looking into it way too damn much and need to dial it back, that’s always a case too.
If I had to rate this movie, I’d give it an easy 5/5 and as a collective whole on the trilogy, it’s a solid 4.5/5. Oh! That reminds me that this trilogy is best viewed as a whole rather than individual films. Be sure to watch each film before having your mind concluded because each movie is effectively different and serves as a greater whole. You’ll be able to appreciate the trilogy more when viewed that way and I’m sure I’ll add more to this soon because I don’t feel like I talked about everything I had on my mind buuuut oh well. I’m off to watch it again!
NOW I SUMMON...SLIFER THE SKY DRAGON OF RA......I MEAN I SUMMON! THE DIVINE GOD GHIDORAH!

Black Feather (2/?)
Summary:  Kuroba Kaito has a plan. Find the people responsible for his father’s death, branded within the magic community as a traitor, and make them pay. There’s just some things he needs to do first. (Set in the HP-verse.) Slowburn KaiShin.
Notes: Yes, it seems I’m uploading fics that seemed like they were being forgotten. First delinquent au, now HP au? Oh wow. Many thanks to @bakathief for creating this wonderful au with me!
[Part One]
Dragons.
When he’d been a child, Kaito had been obsessed with them. His father had taken him to see them at mount Fuji once, the only dragon reserve in Japan, back before Kaito had attended wizarding school. There, Kaito had seen the Ukrainian Ironbellies, with their metallic scales reflecting the sun’s light, red eyes staring down at him.
He’d seen a few Antipodean Opaleye’s as well, from where they’d migrated from New Zealand, never really flying back overseas after the winter had ended. Their multicoloured eyes had been beautiful, had stolen his breath, but they’d never been his favourite.
No – Kaito had always loved the Ukrainian Ironbellies the most. Had wanted to breed them, wanted to tame them and spend every passing moment with them as loving friends.
Then his father had been killed, burnt alive by the Japanese ministry in response to his ‘treason’, and Kaito hadn’t been able to bring himself to go near things that could create fire so easily.
“I’ve not been near dragon’s since back then,” Kaito says now, to himself, tapping against his trousers. His voice sounds almost wistful, as if he realises just how much of a shame it is. “I guess we’ll just have to change that then.”
He’ll have to apparate to Mt. Fuji. And make his way up to the reserve. From what quick research he’d managed to do before the Aurors had come to arrest him, the reserve is currently home to roughly forty dragons.
Over half are Ukrainian, the breed that he’s searching for.
Now, he just needs to apparate there, grab a sample of blood without injuring the beasts. Or getting killed in the process. God, Kaito’s already excited at the concept of this. Dragons bring a spark of life to him that leave him feeling giddy.
He just wishes he could find some unknown properties to them that could help him during his heists. Dragon blood, for one, is highly volatile, and he could use it for offensive potions. It’s also got medicinal properties, except no one’s found a way yet to harness it for human biology without it burning people alive.
Well, that’s what experimentation is for, Kaito supposes.
“Okay,” Kaito says, nodding his head. “To Mt. Fuji.”
Apparating isn’t necessarily difficult. Kaito had gotten his license shortly after finishing school, just before he’d gone travelling. The spell isn’t difficult, nor is the wand incantation.
It’s just getting to the right place that’s the issue.
There’s only so far the spell will work, for one. Most transport spells only work within the confines of a single country. Portkeys are necessary for travelling abroad, things that Kaito’s had to pay out a lot of money for during his travels.
Maybe he should invest in a few self-taught lessons on how to make them? It might help him with KID related jobs.
“Stop,” Kaito says to himself. “Dragons first.”
Apparating takes effort to get where one wants to go, mainly because it requires visualising the area that’s required to travel to. Kaito would be able to travel to his family home without an issue, because he can remember the room’s layout, the dimensions of where he wants to go.
But going somewhere he’s never been before? Or worse, somewhere he can hardly remember – a layout that has probably changed since then?
That’s how patients wind up in hospital with splinching injuries from the spell. There’s an element of danger that not everyone is willing to risk. Kaito knows he could just as easily travel through fireplaces, with floo-powder, but that method of transport is a lot more traceable.
Even though his wand will register the fact that he’s travelled somewhere, it won’t be able to direct to anyone who investigates him, where exactly he’s gone.
Which is probably for the best, because people asking him questions about dragons is not something he typically enjoys.
He really needs to hurry up and find some dragons though, because just standing outside of the Japanese ministry of magic is gaining him quite a few looks.
~~~
Mt. Fuji: Realm of dragons.
Kaito is practically breathless as he glances around. Most of the Ironbellies will be inside of the mountain, living in caves that are charmed to go overlooked by those who aren’t looking closely enough.
The Opaleye’s are probably down by the lake nearby the mountain, lapping up water. The dragon tamers that preserve the safety of the sanctuary, use cloaking magic to keep the dragons out of view of those who aren’t wizards. Keeping the dragons safe from those who’re likely to attack that of which they don’t understand.
There are probably alarms fitted around the caves for the Ironbellies, to keep those with harmful intent away from the dragons, but Kaito’s pretty sure he can get through.
His hand reaches in to his pocket, a hidden sleeve obscured by the heaviest illusion spell he’s ever had the pleasure to create, pulling out his second wand.
It’s a taboo, Kaito knows, owning multiple wands. But it’s easier in the long run, with his extracurricular activities, so he doesn’t really fret too much about it.
“Okay,” Kaito says, “let’s send out a quick tracking spell. Revelare.”
He flicks his wrist upwards twice, and then downwards. It sends a small pulse through his wand, and down into the ground, creating small spider’s veins in the earth, blooming outwards in search for any hidden spells.
It reveals two. Both are entries to caves, except at first glance, the one nearest to him is too thin to be the nest of an Ironbelly. No, Kaito’s going to have to go to the next one then, if he wants to produce good results, then he’s just going to have to put in the work.
“Okay,” Kaito says to himself as he looks at the second cave. It’s bigger. The entrance is probably the width of two fully grown dragons. It should make for the perfect nest.
Now, he just needs to search for any alarms.
There are two. The first is easy, just a simple spell measuring the heat that passes across it. Dragons are cold blooded after all, so only mammals – like wizards – will set it off. Kaito applies a small cloaking spell to himself, something that lowers his external temperature enough to go untraced and heads inside.
The moment he is past, Kaito casts a dull Lumos with his Kaito-wand, keeping his KID wand out for use against the second alarm. It’s not something that’s easily seen, and Kaito strains himself to find it, but he does.
It measures the magic of a person – of course it does. Wizards can get past the cloaking spell into the caves if they want, and anyone competent at magic can also use a cloaking spell of their own to get past the heat measures.
But this. A spell recording just how much magic is filled in a person’s blood. It’s going to be high in comparison to a dragon’s, something that’s going to cause alarms to go off.
And trying to cloak the magic? Well, that only causes the introduction of more magic to a person’s surroundings, triggering the alarm even quicker.
Well, Kaito thinks. Maybe there isn’t exactly a way past this alarm. He’s probably just going to have to risk it, and make sure he apparates away before anyone comes looking for him.
That’s alright, he supposes. He just needs to force himself to work quickly. And Kaito’s always been efficient, so he knows he can work that angle. Probably.
Well there’s no problem in trying, right?
Kaito steps past the alarm, wonders how long he’s got to figure things out, and makes his way further into the cave. There are two dragons inside. One older dragon, and one hatchling.
The hatchling is the one which Kaito immediately decides he can go nowhere near. Dragons might not be highly territorial in the same way as Centaurs are, but they are highly protective of their young.
Trying to draw blood from one of their young – even if he’s not harming them – would be like stepping on a live wire, waiting to be ripped apart by a stray reicio spell. No, he’ll have to go to the mother, which, is definitely also risky but not nearly as immediate in its danger.
He heads forward. The older Ironbelly is curled in on itself, a watchful eye glancing between it’s child and towards the end of its tail where there’s-
Fuck. How are people here already? Surely the alarm hadn’t sounded so quickly. Kaito quickly pockets his wands, tries to seem as unassuming as possible.
She looks up at the sound of his footsteps scuffing out.
“What’re you doin’ here?”
The woman pales almost, to see him stood in the middle of a dragon’s nest. Understandable really, most people don’t show up alone to see dragons without the degree of safety the dragon tamers in the reserve can offer.
“Oh,” Kaito says, by way of introduction. “I… seem to have gotten a little lost?”
He receives a look that could not be any more displeased. The woman’s pretty – with bright eyes and an ivory complexion. Her hair is pulled back into ribbons, and she wears the bright, golden robes of a dragon tamer, with shimmering bangles down her wrist.
“I’m sorry,” she says, “but I don’t think I believe you. There are alarms to keep people from getting lost in areas like this.”
Kaito takes a few steps nearer, glancing between the woman and the dragon. He meets the Ironbelly’s gaze, watching and waiting for any signs of aggravation. They’re not the most volatile of dragons, but Kaito knows enough about living things to know that they can be cruel on their own volition.
“Right,” Kaito says, “isn’t that why you’re here? Because I set off the alarms?”
She shakes her head, stands from where she’d previously been sat down. “Of course not! I’m just here for th’ maintenance of th’ dragons that have recently had their eggs hatch!”
Dragon eggs? God, Kaito hadn’t thought of the properties of their eggs. If they’ve recently cracked open, then surely, he can grab the shells – Dragon eggs are practically impossible to crack open. The defensive elements that he could gain if he could experiment with the empty shells…
“I see,” Kaito says, and now, he makes his way towards her, offering what he hopes is his most charming smile. “How exactly does a person maintain a dragon?”
He comes to a stop beside her, glancing at the tail of the dragon. Now that he’s nearer, he can see the Ironbelly’s scales are jagged instead of the smooth they should be. It seems almost unnatural.
“When dragons are readyin’ to have their hatchlings,” the woman whispers, “they grow more scales, as a defence tha’ will keep their children safe if attacked by other dragons. But this dragon has laid a lot of eggs this year, an’ has grown too many new scales that it’s causing her pain.”
“So you’re removing the excess dragon scales.” Kaito says. He leans down, and sure enough – there in a small pile, are shimmering scales of metal, things that would cost him thousands to buy in the back alleys of Tokyo’s magic industry.
Here… well, Kaito could just take them, obliviate the woman and no one would ever know.
“Exactly,” she continues, and almost as if she’s not worried by his presence anymore, she lowers back down to the dragon’s tail, wand out, watching the slow flicks of the dragon’s scales with a careful precision that tells Kaito she is good at her job.
“I’m Kaito,” he says, as an introduction, “and I know I shouldn’t be here, but do you mind if I watch?”
Her eyes flick to him for the shortest time, weighing up his sincerity, before she nods. She says, “you can stay until th’ alarms bring someone to escort you out.”
Kaito raises an eyebrow.
“…And I’m Kazuha. Now lemme do my job, okay?”
He nods. And he watches. She brings her wand up, and with a flick, mutters incisura. Kazuha has to use the spell four times on the same scale, before the cuts leave it loose enough for her to pry it out from between the other ragged scales. The dragon lets out a growl.
“She’s just bein’ moody,” Kazuha says, as she places the scale amongst the bucket of others, “because she wants this to be quicker, ya know?”
Kaito nods, although he doesn’t really understand. He’s not spent enough time around them to understand the complexity of a dragon, and so – well, it’s probably best to just take the professional at her word.
“The scales,” Kaito says, “what will you do with them?”
Perhaps it’s too much of a conversation changer, because Kazuha stiffens, caught off guard by his question.
“We dispose of them,” she says once she’s back on balance again. She continues pruning the unhealthy scales, placing them among the others. “Sometimes the apothecaries buy them, but they’ve stopped recently, because there’s not a high enough demand for scales.”
Well, Kaito thinks, now he knows where he could buy some scales.
“Everything has it’s uses,” Kaito says. And then, looking up at the dragon, he lets out a small sigh. “I’d be able to find a use for them at least.”
Kazuha stills. She says, “that’s why you’re here, isn’t it? To take advantage of my dragons? To steal from them.”
Oh dear. Kaito seems to have walked straight into that one. He just needs to rework it a little bit.
“You don’t steal from dragons,” he says, reaching forward to brush his fingers against the dragon’s scales. It’s rough enough that it cuts into his hand, leaving a small dribble of blood running down his wrist as he lifts it up. “They only let you take what they have no need for.”
He grabs his wand – his first wand – and mutters the healing spell episkey, to close the small cut. After, with a small wave of his wand, he siphons the blood away with a wordless spell.
“Right,” Kazuha says. “Well, if all you’re here for is dragon scales, then take them and get out.”
“Hey now,” Kaito says, lifting his hands up in surrender, “you said I could watch. I like dragons okay. And as much as I’d like having some scales to experiment with, I’d rather just observe the dragons.”
He does not mention that learning how to gather scales of his own will be much more useful in the long run, than simply taking the scales now and having no idea of how to prune them if he goes looking for wild dragons later.
“I guess I said ya could stay until security came…” Kazuha says, shrugging. “But you do know… it’s the Aurors that escort you out, right? Not our staff?”
Kaito offers a small smile. “Well. That’ll be interesting, I suppose?”
It will not. It most certainly will not be interesting at all. He’d only left the auror’s station behind no less than an hour ago and he’s already going to have them looking at him again.
Oh, the KID half of himself is raging already. Aurors and the ministry are on his ‘things to avoid’ list. Which, quite frankly, is quite short, consisting of only those two things, and merfolk.
“Startin’ to wish you’d taken the scales an’ just gone?” Kazuha asks.
“not yet,” Kaito says, “but I will be when they show up. Probably. Don’t worry about me though, keep going.”
Kazuha grumbles but continues anyway. She has a way with dragons that is almost mystic. Maybe this could have been him, in her place, helping dragons with maintenance and ensuring they remained healthy.
What a shame, that it isn’t.
“Why would you want dragon scales anyway,” Kazuha asks, as she continues removing them. Some of the scales are harder than the others, tougher, requiring five repeats to break away from the others. “There’s not really any use for them.”
Kaito glances at the scales and shrugs his shoulders. A little honesty couldn’t really hurt, could it?
“I’m an inventor,” Kaito says. “I like creating things from seemingly impossible equipment and ingredients.”
Kazuha looks at him. “Create anythin’ interestin’ recently?”
“A spray,” Kaito says, sitting back, “which makes people admit to the truth when asked questions. It was pretty interesting.”
“It was also illegal.”
Oh, Kaito thinks, that’s not Kazuha’s voice. He groans, turns to face the Auror who has made himself known.
Should have expected that Kudo would be the one sent out. The man he’d offered a small wave to before, the dark-skinned Auror stands beside him, glancing towards Kazuha.
“Just because something’s illegal, doesn’t mean it can’t be interesting.” Kaito chirps. “I wasn’t expecting to see you again so soon, Auror Kudo.”
The dark-skinned detective lets out a sigh. “Kuroba Kaito right? You’ve been caught trespassing in one of the restricted areas of the dragon sanctuary without any formal permissions. We’re going to have to take you back to the office for you to sign the relevant paperwork.”
“Oh,” Kaito says. “Can’t you just owl it to me, like you would anyone else?”
He supposes it’s his surname that causes such treatment. And his record of moving from country to country – they probably don’t trust him to stay in one place. Which… is fairly understandable.
“Kuroba,” Kudo says, shaking his head, “this is the second time you’ve been caught doing something illegal, so procedure says we’ve got to take you in for the paperwork.”
Procedure. What a horrid word when used in conjunction with the law.
“This seems horribly unfair,” Kaito says, glancing back at the dragon, “I just came to see some dragons. People usually just get warnings, Auror Kudo. I mean, this hardly seems fair.”
“You left our offices an hour ago!” Kudo sighs, “this is the second time today I’ve caught you doing something you shouldn’t be doing!”
Beside him, Kazuha lets out a small giggle. Kudo’s eyes cut to her, almost scalding, but she doesn’t react to his exasperation. She says, “jeez, you’re going to be trouble, aren’t you?”
Kaito offers her his brightest smile.
“Just go with ‘em,” Kazuha says, “you can have th’ scales if you do.”
He perks up, smile brightening even more so. It’s not quite the dragon blood he arrived looking for, but it’s a start. And then: “can I have the dragon egg shells as well?”
“Don’t push your luck.”
TRAVEL DIARY | BAGUIO 219
We are down to the last 2 months of 2019 and I am so glad I was able to squeeze in a little trip up North with the B! We are excited to finally escape our daily work routine. It was a great time to visit my brother Choi too, who is currently studying in Baguio.
Tumblr media
I booked our hotel via ZENROOMS. (which is now my favorite hotel app! I love how they offer clean, comfortable yet very affordable rooms!) We chose Casa Bel Baguio that only cost us 1810.00php for 2 nights. (I used a 20% promo code too!) You can’t expect much from it as it is very basic though I was surprised that ours included a balcony and a decent parking space. This is probably one of the reasons why we didn’t opt for the prettier options on AirBnB. Madaming mas maganda but it’s either mahirap puntahan or there are no guaranteed parking space. Casa Bel located along Marcos Highway which is 15-20 minutes away from the city proper.
Tumblr media
We didn’t visit the other common tourist spots because we’ve been here a few times already. We only went to Camp John Hay just for some photo ops. They do offer a lot of cool adventures but were too lazy (or scared lol) to try any. You can check the list here: https://campjohnhay.com/explore.html
Tumblr media
Inside Camp John Hay is a garden called Bell House. We paid an entrance fee of 48php/head.
Tumblr media
WHERE TO EAT IN BAGUIO:
ARCA’S YARD
Location: Tiptop, Ambuclao Road, Baguio City
We had our first breakfast in Baguio at this very dreamy cafe called Arca’s Yard. It is located approx. 15-20 minutes from the city proper. It is an old 3-story house converted into a very cozy and homey restaurant. We sat on a table beside a white wooden window where I enjoyed sipping my hot chocolate drink while I appreciate the beautiful view of tall Pine trees swaying outside.
Tumblr media
WE ORDERED THE FOLLOWING:
LONGGANISA - (165)
HUNGARIAN SAUSAGE WITH BACON AND GG - (210)
CACAO HOT CHOCOLATE - (75) ugh! this one set the bar up high. I love how authentic it tastes.. it’s perfect for the cold breeze outside.
CREAM OF MUSHROOM - I forgot to take note of the price. The B ordered this one and he really liked it. He said the smooth texture of the soup is very creamy and tasty. It’s like the ingredients melt and dance in his mouth which he really liked.
Tumblr media
HODORI KOREAN AND JAPANESE RESTAURANT
Location: Mabini Street | Session Road
I craved for Samgyupsal on our first night in Baguio. This one is located near Session Road so we gave it a try.
390PHP/per person for unlimited meat and serving dishes
You’ll get 4 types of meat: Samgyupsal (Pork Belly) Woosamgyup (Beef Belly) Pork Bulgogi and Beef Bulgogi
They also offer additional serving dishes: (which are also part of the unlimited)
- Shrimp Tempura (which to my surprise doesn’t really taste like one. PLEASE SKIP THIS)
- Fried Chicken
- Seasoned Chicken
- Kimbab
- California Maki _(This together with the Japchae were okay)
- Japchae
*Note that they do offer Korean ice cream but it is no longer part of the unlimited :)
Tumblr media
GLENN’S 50′S DINER
Location: 92 Upper General Luna Road**, Corner Brent Road
I honestly have high expectations with this diner as a lot of bloggers have been raving about this. (There is another branch which is only called “50′s Diner” located inside Porta Vaga mall) The B and I arrived there just in time for lunch so we had to wait for about 10 minutes before we got our table. I was expecting it to look close like the Filling Station in Makati but the retro vibes was not really there. Maybe because it was too small and the place was packed with customers when we went there.
WE ORDERED THE FOLLOWING:
GRILLED PORK BELLY - 135PHP (Soft and tender meat. It was good!)
BLT - 1150PHP (The bun was really big! I enjoyed my burger though nothing was really special about it)
CREAM OF MUSHROOM - 60 (This one doesn’t taste home-made. I feel like they used those easy-cook sachets to make this)
STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE - 70 (I am a sucker for Strawberry milkshakes and this one was what I really loved. The combination of milk and strawberry was perfectly blended. It was not too sweet and I find it very affordable for the big glass.
Tumblr media
BAGUIO CRAFT BREWERY
Location: Marcos Highway
This is another must-try place in Baguio as it gives a whole new social drinking experience. Too bad we went there during a black out in the area so we were only able to check out the roof top without experiencing the view of the city lights below the building. It was a great experience as it was my first time to try craft beer. How it works is you have to go to the cashier where all the craft beers are located. You may ask for free taste until you find what beer really suits your liking.
We ordered the following:
Lagud - Strawberry Fruit Beer - (180PHP) I played safe and ordered this one. hehe This was actually my brother’s first choice. It was good. It tastes like wine to me!
Kraken - mixed with coffee - (190PHP)
English Man in New York - mixed with caramel - (190PHP)
Tumblr media
SIZZLING PLATE
Location: 116 Session Road
The B has been eyeing this the moment we passed Session Road. We could see a lot of people dining in so we finally gave it a try on our 2nd night in Baguio. We were surprised that this restaurant is the same one we see inside SM’s food court. However they do offer bigger serving that still didn’t hurt our pockets.
Tumblr media
WE ORDERED THE FOLLOWING:
GRILLED PORKCHOP
T-BONE STEAK - 240PHP
SALISBURY STEAK - 161PHP
CREAM OF MUSHROOM
Tumblr media
ILI LIKHA ARTISTS VILLAGE
Location: Assumption Rd
You should definitely consider going to this place when you go to Baguio. It’s not your typical food hub as the entire place was built with big trunk of trees. All the pieces made to assemble the food hub are recycled which is really evident if you would walk around the place.While appreciating the crazy aesthetics of the entire place, you could fill in your stomachs from the different food stalls inside. You can order from any of the stalls and they would bring you your food wherever you want to be seated.
We ordered the following: (We ordered these from 3 different merchants but I wasn’t able to take note of each names)
Tumblr media
BALBACUA - 75 (I’ve been curious about this too as I’ve read this dish in a lot of other blog post. They said it taste like “pares” which I don’t really eat but I gave it a try anyway... locals, please don’t get mad at me but I feel like matabang siya. :(
RICE - 35 (I ordered one rice because the dish doesn’t include it yet)
BULLET PROOF COFFEE - 110 (Coffee is always a good idea anyway. I loved this!)
PINIKPIKAN - 110 (Here’s another dish we got curious with. It turned out it taste exactly like Tinola hehe masarap!)
ALIGUE RICE WITH BAGNET + 1 STEAMED RICE - 170 (I enjoyed the Aligue rice as it was very tasty and flavorful pero naumay kami with the rich taste so mixed it with steamed rice hehe)
SAGADA COFFEE with 1 free refill - 50
Tumblr media
This is a little bridge going to the other side of the food hub.
Tumblr media
you can dine wherever you want!
Tumblr media
This one is pretty awesome! They have a small theater designed with wood and trunks. I believe this is where they would invite people and play indie films.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OTHER INFO I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE :)
- Total gas was 2000.00 for an AT Sedan Hyundai Accent (departed from Tandang Sora, Quezon City. 3 days stay. Including city driving)
- Total toll gate was around 1300.00
- Total budget for pasalubong was 600-1200.00 (Dun kayo sa Public Market nila bumili kasi mas mura yung mga pasalubong dun. Mas makakatawad din. Sample pricing: 120php for the big Choco Flakes, 80php for 1 pack of cheese bars, 100php for 7 Fuji Apples, 80php for the Lengua)
- If it’s your first time going to the night market. Only bring a small bag or purse. Expect na sobrang daming tao talaga. They open at 9PM :)
- Looking for the best cake? YOU MUST TRY VIZCO’S STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! Located along session road :)
Japan Day 6
After nearly a week in Tokyo it was finally time for us to head out to Hakone for a bit of nature.
Tumblr media
The ride into town is so unbelievably gorgeous already.
This was our first more complicated transferring route but we got to Hakone-Yumato station with minimal complications. There’s also a decent bakery inside called Hakone Bakery Cafe if you’re looking for a quick snack.
Tumblr media
The black sesame cream bread is a must get if you’re as crazy about black sesame as me.
This town is breathtakingly beautiful. Even around the station you’re greeted with views you can only imagine.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately the place I originally intended on eating at was closed but since Hakone is known for their tofu, we ended up Googling a random spot called Shikajaya. We walked along the Sukumo River which was a pleasant stroll despite all our luggage and found the quaint restaurant. They offer several different types of meal sets so of course I had to get the one that allowed me to try the majority of the menu and every last item was phenomenal. It’s hard to describe how it’s so different from your grocery store boxed stuff but it’s an entirely different experience
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After filling our bellies we headed to our main attraction of the day at the Hakone Open Air Museum. I was expecting a large sculpture garden but this place is incorporates that with more traditional exhibits, interactive works, and wonderful nature stops. There’s even a hot foot bath if you need to soak your feet and relax for a while.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This place is almost like a giant park for art loving adults. Definitely worth stopping by for a bit.
We covered most of everything at the museum and decided to leave early so we could use the Hakone Freepass-eligible transportation back to our hotel versus taking a bus directly there which would cost us additional money without any of the views. We weren’t planning on it but it’s supposed to rain tomorrow so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather from today. It was totally worth it. We got to stop by Gora for a bit (and collect an exclusive stamp for this anime promotion) and we got to take the ropeway back before it closed (at 5pm). The sky was so clear and we caught wonderful views of Mt. Fuji and the gases rising from Owakudani.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks to the hotel’s free shuttle pickup (you just need to give them a call from the station with the 10 Yen pay phone) we arrived to our lounging at Hotel Green Plaza early and while were basically ready to turn in for the night but the hotel had so many more adventures waiting for us. Our room was a traditional Japanese style room featuring a lovely tea set and a nice balcony view.
Tumblr media
Once we dropped everything off, we scurried to the onsen so we could catch the last trails of light illuminating Mt. Fuji in the distance.
Tumblr media
Mt. Fuji is only visible from here on a clear day and tonight was perfect.
After the onsen we felt like glowing happy balls of warmth and we were ready to be fed. We stuffed ourselves to the brim with one of the best buffets (in the hotel restaurant “Hananowa”)  I’ve had in a while. Seriously, the selection was tremendous and my eyes were bigger than my stomach but I sure tried my best to get at least a bit of the most important items.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have everything from fish to steak to ochazuke to pasta tossed in a wheel of cheese. Literal heaven.
By the time we returned from dinner our beds were made up for us. The room slept the 3 of us perfectly.
Tumblr media
After spending a week in a hostel, I was more than ready for a more luxurious stay. This place has been absolutely fantastic and I wish we could be here longer.
Seiyuu & Artist Furihata Ai-san Interview & Gallery
This issue’s cover girl, Furihata Ai-san, voices Kurosawa Ruby in Love Live! Sunshine!!, and she also appears part of the 9-girl group Aqours. She is a girl who loves to take pictures, especially with her disposable film camera QuickSnap. And now, let’s introduce some of the works that she has captured.
Kurosawa Ruby (CV: Furihata Ai)
Love Live! Sunshine!!, the story of the 9 high school girls who run forward, facing their dream of becoming the top school idols. Kurosawa Ruby is a first-year member in that school idol group.
This month’s cover girl is Furihata Ai-san, who voices Kurosawa Ruby from the very popular multimedia project Love Live! Sunshine!!, Furihata Ai-san.
----First, please tell us about Love Live! Sunshine!!.
Furihata Ai (Furihata): It’s a story of youth about 9 girls who grew up in Numazu and look up to school idols. Kurosawa Ruby, the character whom I am performing as, is the little sister character. She's a strong girls at heart who tries her best with her older sister Kurosawa Dia and her friends, using her love for school idols despite being a crybaby. She often cries out “Pigii!” (laughs), but she can be composed as well. For example, in the scene that they were all staying overnight in the ryokan*, she took the initiative and said, “We need to sleep early” and tried to lay out the futons. But in the end she wasn’t successful and dropped all the futons (laughs). I like this clumsy side of her. (TL Note: Japanese inn; this scene is referencing episode 7 when the girls were in Tokyo)
----Are there similarities or differences between the two of you?
Furihata: I myself have a little sister and a little brother, so my viewpoint of an older sister is very different from Ruby’s. Sometimes when I see Ruby, I think, “She really is small, what could she be doing~” (laughs). People’s first impression of me is that I couldn’t have any younger siblings, so I often get asked, “Are you the youngest child?”. If you talk about our similarities, then it would be that we cry very easily. Also, we are both sore losers.
----So you’re a crybaby? (laughs)
Furihata: That’s correct~ (laughs). My birthday was in February, so my resolution this year was “I won’t cry!”, but I still ended up crying during the 1st Live the other day… (laughs) Because of my seiyuu work, I had a ton of sentiment. My standard was that I didn’t want to cry in front of people, but I did. And those people will end up crying as well.
----The 1st Live was held on 25th and 26th February at Yokohama Arena. Why did you end up crying?
Furihata: Ruby is part of the 3-man unit CYaRon!, but even in our private lives we also hang out and get along well, so when I thought once again about how we sang and danced together on stage, I was really touched…
----But it wasn’t tears of sadness, but instead the tears were because you were moved, which is truly wonderful. Did you feel nervous about 1st Live?
Furihata: It was strange that I wasn’t really nervous. Before the live, I was really nervous, but the moment I went out on stage it was like a scene in the anime… I remembered the practice and rehearsals I had with everyone, and I saw the sparkle of the lights, which made me naturally feel, “I really am Ruby, huh”.
----You had a fun live as Ruby, huh.
Furihata: Ruby might be a crybaby, but when she's singing, she's always smiling, and you won't be able to see even a single teardrop. She is a girl who gives off the impression that she has courage on stage, and that is a part where I was able to sync with her a little.
----The 2nd Live Tour is going to start from August onwards, huh.
Furihata: It will be held in the three locations of Nagoya, Kobe, and Saitama. This tour that is represented by the 3rd Single has a rather different feel from 1st Live, and the bonds of the 9 of us will grow stronger than ever before. The venues are also even bigger, so of course I am worried, but I’m happy that I will meet more people. I receive courage as I see each individual face one by one.
----Today, the photoshoot was held in Numazu, which is featured within Love Live! Sunshine!!. How many times have you been to Numazu as of today?
Furihata: I first came here last year in February, and it’s been 4 or 5 times total since then. I visit during official events as well as on my own accord.
----What kind of an impression did today’s photoshoot leave on you?
Furihata: There’s a lot that left an impression on me, but it turns out that Okawa-san’s house (Private residence) that became a model for Ruby’s house was an exceptional place. It was my second time there, but it was a place that allowed me to feel, “This is where the girls have been living their lives”, and Okawa-san’s mother even said, “You can come back any time you like”. The garden was also beautiful, and I got some of the freshly picked mikan stored in the cellar, as well as getting to play the koto.
----You’re really good at the koto! Have you practiced before?
Furihata: I played it in class in elementary school. I myself was surprised that I still remember how to play it.
----You got a lot of pictures taken in the Okawa residency; normally do you take pictures with the QuickSnap?
Furihata: It’s my most beloved hobby! I take the photo files that I have decisively captured, and use my computer to upload them to Instagram. Right now I am interested in how to take beautiful pictures at night. I want to use the flash, but I also want to try using the natural outdoor light.
----Since when did you start taking pictures?
Furihata: I first got hold of a camera in kindergarten or in elementary school. I used it during my study tour in middle school and high school. Somehow, if you mention camera to me the first one I think about is the QuickSnap.
----You don’t use your phone camera or digital cameras?
Furihata: I like to try developing film. My face gets split in half and becomes pure white, resulting in failures sometimes, but I feel like it’s still very interesting. When I take pictures with my QuickSnap, I often go to Asakusa and take pictures of the Merry-go-round at Hanayashiki. I want to go to Nakano Shutter Street and take pictures there.
----The retro street is brought to life, huh. You really do like taking pictures with the QuickSnap.
Furihata: That's why, when I heard news about the package that Love Live! Sunshine!! and QuickSnap were collaborating on, I was so happy I jumped for joy. I want to take the QuickSnap and explore Numazu’s photogenic spots like I did today, and it would be great if I could have fun.
Love Live! Sunshine!! collabs with Fujifilm’s QuickSnap. Each of the 9 members of Aqours has their own covering for the QuickSnap designed after their outfits, and it’s grouped by years into 3 sets. Each set contains jacket covers of 3 members as well as the body of the QuickSnap. It is contained in its original packaging. For example, the 1st years set contains the trio of Kurosawa Ruby, Kunikida Hanamaru, and Tsushima Yoshiko. The pre-order period at 7net shopping has ended, but it’s on sale now.
With help from Yunii, Chezz, and @luciahunter6 from Team ONIBE, we have Aiai’s interview and gallery from Photo Tecnic Digital’s April edition all translated and prettied up for your reading pleasure!
All the additional images are included in the links above. The wallpapers were compiled by Eter with the help of other Discord members from the CN magazine scans (Note: This was a JP-EN TL, not CN-EN). Aiai’s not really one of the seiyuu whom I really pay much attention to, but I have to admit, she looks really pretty in those pictures.
We should back the truck up here and start from the beginning of last year's #24hourproject. It will be a great chance tor revisit the photos, what strategy worked, and give you some take aways if you are participating this year (DO IT! Register free at @24hourproject). 12:04am #Sacramento #USA "Invisible" by @victoria.j.hart as part of the #24hourproject #24hr16 #24hr16_sacramento to support @shehashope. For more information please visit @24hourproject The shot: This was the first good one right out of the gate, just after midnight. It gave me a boost in confidence right away, which was good since I was pretty nervous about how the project was going to go. Lots of good foot traffic of people going to or coming from bars in the area. Loved the juxtaposition. Miffed that it was a bit out of focus. Chosen for forms and sentiment. It is one of the shots of the day that I still like. Also, not sure if that is water or piss 2016 gear: Fuji XT1 w/ 35 mm lens. B&W JPEG +RAW. iPhone 5 if needed. Canon T2i at base camp as fallback. Cosyspeed Camslinger bag. Flash on camera for initial dark hours. Results: Fuji XT1 indispensable. Wifi built in worked perfectly. 3 batteries for the day, which is impressive for the Fuji, but I keep it off until needed. B&W was a safe choice. Very forgiving, easy and quick to post process. RAW files nice to have, but not necessary. iPhone a perfect backup. It would be very easy to use the iPhone as primary, so if having a bigger camera is what's holding you back, you have nothing to worry about. Never needed the Canon. Would have went straight to iPhone in a catastrophic failure, and it was great for when I needed a wider lens. The camslinger bag did not fare well. It was the older model with the button latch that you kind of pulled out. That latch self destructed about hour 3 when I was trying to yard my camera out quick enough to take a picture of the guy walking through the McDonalds parking lot with a sheet around him like a cape. Missed it. Managed to get it back together enough to keep using it the rest of the day, thankfully. Never used the flash. I usually run on silent, so having to change settings was prohibitive.
Where every other anime leads to...
This been in the drafts for soo long it deserves to see the sunlight finally... or moonlight, considering it’s midnight there.
AKA Meet my newest Tenipuri AU based on a thing I’m currently watching, and have a look at the headcanons I have for it- The Cheer Danshi AU version.
Seishun Gakuen Male Cheerleading club, aka Seigaku Fighters
Team motto: It’s not a team if it isn’t together.
Coach: Ryuuzaki Sumire, aka one of the best Flyers of the old age of Seishun, training both Fighters and their Female counterpart, Blues. Strict but open to the ideas of improvement, really attached to her team, especially the stunt specialists’, aka Seigaku Regulars.
Seigaku Regulars consist of two stunt units and three flyers switching their positions from performance to performance. Positions are as follows:
Spotter: Tezuka Kunimitsu, Inui Sadaharu
Base: Oishi Shuuichiro, Kawamura Takashi, Momoshiro Takeshi, Kaidoh Kaoru
Flyer: Fuji Shuuske, Kikumaru Eiji, Echizen Ryoma.
Tezuka Kunimitsu- The captain of the team, practically forced into quitting the base position and becoming a spotter by Oishi, after injuring his arm while protecting a senpai Flyer with bad balance from the fall and injury. Before an accident he was considered an almost perfect all-rounder cheelreader, but, after switching position and devoting himself to a Spotter position, he literally became the eyes of any stunt he’s in. He is very strict to the team and won’t let anybody slack off during practice in fear of anybody gaining injuries like his own . He seems especially strict to the Flyers and any cheerleader working in air, but his teammates are mostly aware it comes from the concern for their safety more than his push to become Nationally recognised team (though the latter plays big part in his character as well).
Oishi Shuuichiro- A base and a vice-captain of the team, he is pretty much the heart of the team (and it’s mom). While he was dragged into cheerleading by Tezuka (and stuck in it because of Eiji), he mastered the most mundane, basic parts of Cheerleading to become a decent support to anybody needing this. Still, sometimes in time of stress he tends to get overwhelmed by his doubts and fears of failing to protect the Flyer from getting hurt. He works on it, though, and while he doesn’t posess any special traits, he is known to make the Flyer he’s working with really stand out. He, Kawamura and Tezuka form one base of the stunt unit. After Echizen’s debut as a Fighters’ third Flyer, however, he and Kawamura were paired with the remaining two flyers to perform two-people stunts and choreographies to distract public from the preparation of the bigger stunt (like three-stages pyramid etc.). In those situations, he’s Eiji’s partner.
Kawamura Takashi- Also known as the one-man base of the Fighters, this shy giant is possibly the strongest base in the whole Seishun, with endurance matched only by Kaidoh’s. He is usually gentle and shy, but watch out for him when the Fighters’ call resound- it’s like his switch was pressed, and he becomes boisterous, confident and loud guy, who’s voice is the one most hearable from the chant during performances. Rumor has it even became audible over Hyotei’s 200 members chant, though it is unproven as the schools never performs at the same time during tournaments. His strength might come from him helping at his father’s restaurant, and that also made him the main supplier of the team during the camps and all that team’s stuff. He, Oishi and  Tezuka form one base of the stunt unit. After Echizen’s debut as a Fighters’ third Flyer, however, he and Oishi were paired with the remaining two flyers to perform two-people stunts and choreographies to distract public from the preparation of the bigger stunt (like three-stages pyramid etc.). He’s Fuji’s partner.
Inui Sadaharu- Second Spotter of the team, also doubling as it’s manager, this juice fiend use his data to chose the best timing and trajectory to maximize Base’s potential, Flyer’s jump height and overal look of the stunt they’re performing. He is also the only third-year in the second stunt unit for as long as Ryoma is the Flyer. Due to overcalculating some things he sometimes slows down the progress of his unit, but as long as they work together, the effect his analysis brings is always amazing. His juices are known as a penalty for those getting late to the practice, as well as the best tranquilizer to his fellow bases’ arguing. In the big stunts he gives up spotter’s position to Tezuka and becomes the base.
Momoshiro Takeshi- second year base, also the middle-man in a three stages stunts, Easy-going and rather supportive base, often scolded by Tezuka for taking his duty to Flyers too lightly. Once it causes his temporary leave from the unit, he starts working on his attitude (being taken under the wing of one of the two base-flyer pairs helps a lot), contrary to Inui’s calculated one, his work in the stunt unit is the most instinct based thing in the Fighters’ performance.
Kaidoh Kaoru- A second-year base with enormous endurance. Devoted to cheerleading due to wish to show his support to his little brother during latter’s hard times, this sophomore isn’t actually really ambitious, he does, however, want to support his senpais and teammates, and so, he is also one of the hardest training cheerleaders in the whole group (which earned him Tezuka’s attention), also one almost blindly following Inui’s instruction, making his technique improve rapidly.He is the middle man during the three stages stunts alongside Momoshiro, what not necessarily is to his liking, but he rarely complains, fully aware that thanks to their still slightly lighter frame compared to other bases, and strength and endurance possibly higher than upperclassmen, the two of them are the best choice for that role.
Fuji Shuuske- the so-called Genius Flyer, with no pull towards cheerleading whatsoever aside of the fact he often did it to cheer his younger brother up. By continuing to do it he believed to get on well with him again, and was near quitting after his brother screamed how embarrased he is at having a cheerleader for a brother (for some reason it didn’t stop him from becoming a base at st.Rudolph, though-siblings’ rivalry, perhaps), at least until Tezuka didn’t challenge heartbroken Fuji to a tumbling competition in which Fuji lost. At first, his only reason to stay with the team was to keep close to Tezuka, the mindset shifting after befriending other third-year Flyer, and starting to simply enjoy group activity (and penalty juices). He is considered the type of a Flyer that doesn’t need to put much effort into any figure he is training, and being a “perfect” due to small and thin frame. One of the main choreographers of the team.
Kikumaru Eiji- probably the most acrobatic out of three Flyers, also the most cheerful and uplifting character, becoming the heart of the team (and mischief, along with Fuji), this boy joined due to being bored of classical gymnasticts and wanting to try something new, then falling in love with the Cheering, where you could bounce and shout and move and fly and not be scolded for all that- even if his stamina not always allows him to keep high-level performance till the very end. Youngest of the five, he has a lot of people to cheer on from the youngest age, and as such, has the most experience with just actually what his cheering should cause- something that he slowly, unconsciously teaches to his other teammates, then both co-Flyers as well. He has a good music sense, and helps with background music for the team’s performances. While he is best known as the team’s Flyer, his close partnership with ‘his’ Base-namely Oishi- resulted in him being able to -to a certain degree- support younger members from below, thus becoming a part of the pair any new promising/problematic Flyer/team member is sent to to learn importance of co-work and mutual support- the lesson he has learned as the first year with the “Flyers are cool, Bases are booring’ mindset...
Echizen Ryoma- miracle Rookie Flyer, taking up this position to overshadow his Spotter father(who tended to prefer supporting girls, therefore smehow always ended as the middle-man), he tends to look at the Spotter and Bases from above (despite his small size), learning to be better only after the accident during his first performance with Seigaku, during which his mistake would cost him his career, had it not been for Tezuka’s reaction. He breaks (or, more accurately, is broken) out of his shell thanks to Momoshiro, and learns a meaning of cooperation from working with the second unit’s Base. He stills retains a strong rivalry kick, which he satisfies by endangering Fuji’s position and constantly challenging Tezuka to a tumbling matches.
Golden Pair- in this au, Oishi and Eiji retain their nickname due to the obvious reasons (like author’s shipping preferences) at the same time being the duo with the biggest number of two-people stunt performances in the whole Seishun, near perfect harmony, not requiring a Spotter’s support, and ability to switch from a Base-flyer to a Base-Base setting, not that anybody outside of Seishun knows about the Bases skills Kikumaru acquired during Oishi’s wrist injury and recuperation.
Kindness Pair-as the second double unit, they obviously work hard to distract the public with their show. While in GP’s case it’s Eiji who is the louder one, Taka-san is the dominating voice here. They practice throws, as Taka’s strength and Fuji’s frame allow it, but are still prohibited to perform them due to Taka not always managing to properly follow Fuji’s airborne movements (Tezuka is glad for the mattresses in the gym every time they practice throws). Still, Fuji’s form during scorpions and other stand figures is considered better than Eiji (some say it’s because Eiji is always doing the figure differently to what other peope consider norma)
