definitely hugely biased as a massive Pinus Sylvestris fan but I'm so convinced that the Kazimierz storyline is one of the best in the game. its the one that really got me into the story of Arknights because its such a fun political intrigue/tournament story with lots of little threads that come together in time. Seeing even more side characters like Platinum or Malkiewicz develop and how they fit into the larger scheme of things as pawns of others with also their own personal attitudes and ambitions that ultimately sway the outcome is just SO GOOD. Malkiewicz in particular is one of my favorites, a kind of average guy moved above his comfort level by chance and while he's influenced by the attitudes and prejudices in Kazimierz its gratifying to see his intense personal decency rubbing up against the position he's in and how he doesn't become as corrupted by the that position. All things like that running together in tandem between the story of Maria and Margaret, of Pinus Sylvestris, of the tournament. Even the sillier characters like Mob (ESPECIALLY Mob, tbh) give us a really fun insight into the culture and vibes. I could go on and honestly I just love it and Kazimierz as a setting and I hope we get more of it in the future, even just a trickle.

I recently came across a squirrel post and had a thought I'd like to know if you agree with or have other thoughts about.

Are Flametail and Ashlock just two different color variations of the same squirrel species?

(also I love all of the Pinus Sylvestris Knightclub characters. Was collecting them all and FINALLY got Ashlock the other day. She was the last one I needed)

Flametail is an Eurasian Red Squirrel while Ashlock is probably an Eastern Grey Squirrel.

Ashlock is a bit harder to point down because we only have the squirrel’s silhouette in the coat of arms in her E2 art, so I could be wrong, but Flametail is an easy one due to the squirrel’s distinctive red fur coupled with the iconic pointed ears of the Eurasian red.

The pinuses are all good eggs, cute gang. I like Flametail and Fartooth a lot.

ive just been rereading a lot of pinus sylvestris stuff to pass my sick day today since i Love them SO much and god i love this module story. so goofy and sweet.

This is a hard question because there’s so many good answers, especially depending on whether I want to get something out of it besides a cool friend. My thoughts below:

Firstly, Asbestos is my favorite arknights girl. However she’s also extremely noteworthy for being a huge asshole who has few friends and doesn’t want many. She’s also an explorer who spends months on end adventuring on expeditions, she would barely be around and when she is she would be insulting me constantly. She’s also 5’1” so it would be very funny to watch her try and bully me when I’m over a foot taller than her scrawny ass. I love her but in terms of what makes a good friend I think she’s a very bad pick, but that’s okay honestly

Here are some of the other operators that came to mind and why

Gravel would give you kissies even as a friend and would probably cuddle too

Whislash would get drunk a lot when we hang out and probably get all handsy. She’s an alcoholic wine aunt but shes very hot so I would enjoy being around her and helping her when she drinks too much I think

Ptilopsis seems like a lovely lady who I would really like to talk to and be friends with even though most people think she’s weird

Catapult would be fun to hang out with, she loves skipping out on responsibilities and having fun but she also has a good heart

If I’m a friend with a member of Pinus Sylvestris can I be friends with all of them? That would be ideal

I would love to get to know Margaret Nearl but I probably wouldn’t be able to help myself from falling for her like every other woman in the world

But if I really had to give an answer in terms of purely who would be a good friend to have, it would have to be either Blemishine or Cement. They’re both so positive and nice and also helpful. Their personalities are great and I want to be friends with them. Blem could also help you with her engineering skills and Cement could help you build stuff if you needed a hand, but that’s less important than them simply being kind people

Arknights Chapter XIII - The Whirlpool That Is Passion (Part III)

Perhaps we are all familiar with this already but I actually spent the time to read it before starting because I didn't want to have yet ANOTHER 'Wow, why did X thing happen?' with Pinkie immediately responding 'Did you read the enemy description?'

WARNING: This post is going to contain a lot of yapping from me about Hoederer and how much I love him and will also have a LOT of spoilers.

13-1 Across the Battlefield's Line

Pinkie: "Dr. Seuss? Like... the one who writes children's books with rhymes?" Me: *Unhappy because from the first moment, I realized that this is Hoederer and he's probably going to start me off with a little trauma and a little loss, a sprinkle of sadness just so I know not to be optimistic about the future*

... I've said it before and I will keep saying it - the history of Sarkaz as a race is so incredibly sad to the point it's a relief that the person you are talking to doesn't actually know who you are because otherwise, they would never treat you with even a smidge of kindness. And in the end, what do you even have to do in a jail cell? He waited around for nothing and got executed.

Of course, not that he had a choice.

After Hoederer's introspection we have, what I understood to be, a couple of Sarkaz mercs standing and waiting for commands while trying desperately to get something in their stomachs from what they managed to take steal from around. Including some... very important books perhaps from the library of this mansion.

Calfskin books... I can't decide if that would be more precious than paper.

I believe we spoke with Pinkie about this, but it is so immensely sad to see how the Sarkaz race has been in this situation for so long that they actively do not even NEED to be able to read. I can't imagine myself being unable to read, even if it's signs. Letters. How would they otherwise communicate with each other over a long distance? They don't even have families to message sometimes. They probably don't have the paper or means to send them about, since Catastrophe messengers... would probably never be able to take on such messages.

Many of them probably don't have families either. Devastated.

But with this line, it also gives me hope. Sometimes we take the things we have as a given and, at least I, forget that they still have ways of enjoying things by:

Making up stories based on the drawings they see. Which also makes me happy because books with drawings SHOULD be more of a thing, it's so wonderful. I miss it.

Not that I was endeared to the press in Kazimierz initially after everything in Maria Nearl and Pinus Sylvestris, but for goodness sake... They actually sound like how I imagine the actual press to sound. What they actually do sound like "Shock and awe and make us popular for being the first to write about it."

The things people WITH a press do in comparison to those who need it but do not have it. Perfect way to pace the story, I'm so happy chapter 13 came out.

I don't even know what to think about Trillby Asher anymore. Because I very recently finished the Kal'tsit and Passenger story, I kind of know that things are NOT going well with the Emperor's Blades... To see them show up again is giving me wild anxiety because we already know that they are super unstable and they can cause a catastrophe just by showing up.

What even is your purpose? Why are you here?

What even is the point of this, I don't know, but we're saving it in case it shows up again. 11, 29, 1 (code word) I wish this was translatable into English, frankly, your alphabet doesn't have 29 symbols.

Something that I think people took from my big loud mad post about Nearl's infected situatuon is me hating Near Light as an event, which, fair enough, I didn't talk about much else, but what's missing is the context of why I cared so much. It's because Near Light was right on the cusp of supplanting Stultifera Navis as my favorite event in all of Arknights. And I still feel that way!

There are so many interwoven plots and interesting takes, like a friend of mine pointing out that Pinus Sylvestris may be the writers taking on the issues with how they handled Part 1 Reunion by showing how an Infected mutual aid organization can commit violence against the state while still remaining a fundamentally good group.

I love what they do with Platinum, with the way the Lazurites get slowly shown they are not nearly as big of fish as they thought in the grand scheme of things.

I love the dynamic of Plastic Knight with PS, and the way that he gets his views continually challenged.

I love the way that no one is right in Blood Knight and Nearl's battle of ideals, that both of their paths are necessary for true forward progress for the Infected of Kazimierz, which is then all the more beautifully symbolized by them walking arm in arm to the Hall of Champions.

I ADORE the Doctor in this event. This is the first time in my AK experience that I've gotten to see them be such an active player in the narrative, and it felt so right to see them so confident and competent in role. The tea party scene with Platinum was peak!! And their chemistry with Gravel was so believable and developed!!

I could actually go on for days. This shit was peak fiction to me, and my hyper strong reaction to Nearl not being infected is because of how in love I am with everything else, and how much it hurt me for HyperGryph to, in my eyes, miss the mark so badly when they just needed to deliver the existing themes out to their clear logical endpoint to stick the landing of the story.

NEARL

Nearl is such a fucking chad. the first real events i got to do anything with when i started last year were the maria nearl rerun/pinus sylvestris/near light trilogy and holy shit. after being only mildly plussed by her in the intro chapters, nearl became a favorite almost immediately. I don't usually love super chivalrous knight type characters, they're fine, i have no particular bias towards them, but marge is a really well realized modern version of this trope that lands super well with all we see of kazimierz and its hellish culture. obviously as a huge lesbian i was immediately enchanted by her behavior in her event, the dance with liz melted my heart, the homoerotic light and darkness sword duel with viviana made me go insane, she's SO COOL dealing with the blood knight... i wasn't that into the kazimierz plot to start with but nearl (and flametail!) made it my second-favorite subplot in the game all on her own. red circle above is because i cannot tell, due to my somewhat insular choice of fan circles, whether the general fanon is that she's in a poly thing with the Followers or something stupider and more wrong than that; if that's the take, we have a bingo! If not, move that circle over to "everyone but me is wrong."

I know people don't like her staying in kazimierz, but if i can drop a hot take -- and i can, it's my fucking blog and you've chosen to be here, sucker -- i actually like the vibe in near light that you cannot just stride in and crush societal ills and overthrow Capital just like that. helping people is still meaningful; doing the work of dismantling oppression is meaningless without making sure people survive to do it in the first place. her decision comes from a place of altruism and care for the people of her homeland, not from a misguided belief that she can work from within to change the cops or whatever the fuck. i get with that; it's a different character motivation than i'm used to and i'm really for it. moving the decimal place still matters to the people who will survive because you did, and that's what nearl and the doctor are doing the whole time in near light.

SIEGE

I'm sorry. idk her at all. I've never pulled her, only used her once, and i haven't started episode 10 yet (SORRY) -- i expect this rating to change when i DO know more about her but right now i'm just scared they'll do some lame shit True King Returns plotline with her and somehow make act 2 worse than it started out. she's hotter than all fuck though.

I'm sorry to be so hard on her but again; having completed episode 9 but not yet started 10+ i despise her. my dear friend @deneviere put it well yesterday; they tried to make her the sympathetic authority figure in ep9 but she is, objectively, here to do some bootboy shit, so what she really is is a massive centrist. no, horn, i DIDN'T consider that trying to preserve a culture under threat of ethnocide could damage unity in the imperial core, because i'm not a fucking imperialist. shut the fuck up, you dumb dog.

It's entirely possible a lot of her bad writing is a symptom of ep9 just being a complete shitshow overall; her interactions with Hamilton Von Racist are incredibly fucking pointless for what actually goes down in them, and the ending after 9-19 was so cartoonishly stupid i couldn't even be angry (this is a lie). she's still very hot and stupid overpowered as an operator, but i'm leaving Horn at level 1 forever because i already have Ashlock leveled, and also i hate her. this rating is also subject to change but, uh, we'll see.
