guys I just remembered those young buck reeboks aren’t just a thing I dreamt up and that’s so funny
literally I was like ‘that HAD to be a fever dream’, but no. they’re very real.
ngl I think that’s the most on brand young bucks move that they could’ve made. seriously, two arrogant brats making fucking Reebok pumps in the year of our lord 2024, and they look good too. fuck that’s actually smart.
i love when wrestlers use each other’s shoot names to make a storyline more compelling like jimmy during jey & roman’s hell in a cell i quit match and now jey at night of champions calling for roman but calling him joe instead. i also liked when britt used adam cole’s real name when she was getting attacked in front of him it was a good addition
I wish people respected pro wrestling more than they do. This sport deserves so much more than it gets. I'm sick of hearing "it's fake" because yeah, the matches are predetermined but the emotions are real. The connection is real. The honor is real. The love is real.
Got thinking about the absurdities of wrestling kayfabe and coworkers specifically vis a vis Darby Allin's incredibly ill advised Everest climb being stymied by that injury in the match with Jay White. Like imagine having to call up your coworker like "fuck man I'm so sorry you have to cancel your big trip. I am going to need to be a dick about this on TV though. For the bit."
The Golden Lovers reuniting via a spectacularly bloody damsel-in-distress rescue scenario somehow managed to not be the most emotional moment of the night.
Like, don't get me wrong. This was beautiful and made me super happy.
But the core story of the match was the Elite's friendship and unity triumphing over a self-interested and fractious BCC coalition, and the biggest moment was Mox sacrificing himself to save Yuta. The cartoonish tough guy who never gives up *gave up* (to Hangman, again) in order to protect the kid who's been BCC's designated punching bag since day 1.
I'm glad they let the ongoing AEW story dominate and wove the Golden Lovers into it, instead of having the reunion overpower the match. Kenny and Kota's story has always been woven through the big moments of both of their lives, and this feels like a natural continuation of that. The fact that they let it breathe a little and started slow makes me hope that this means they've got time to tell it properly.
Also: look at the ring gear. We've got the Hung Bucks and Golden Lovers as distinct entities within The Golden Elite.
Multiple stories, multiple relationships, are coming together here. I hope that this little visual definition is a marker of the members of The Elite getting to be all of themselves within the group, and not a sign of yet another split to come.
