It's probably significant to remember that Jonathan and Nancy didn't expect to kill the Demogorgon. They hoped, sure. But that wasn't why they went to Jonathan's house and set up the bear trap and strung the lights and cut their hands. Maybe that's why they bought the stuff, to try, before they knew the whole picture, but that's not why they go.

They go because Nancy sits on the floor and thinks about Joyce and Hopper going after Will, and she knows, she knows, that they're going to need help and she can't go with them. But. She can be bait. She and Jonathan can draw the monster away, distract it so that the way is clear. Steve is accidentally dragged into that by virtue of showing up at the right place at the right time.

And I know that the fandom likes to give Steve guilt (me too), but also it's the kids that see Nancy doing that, and then what happens in season 2? The kids go into the tunnels to distract the demodogs, pull them away from where the action is, to keep El safe while she faces the actual problem- the gate- and to protect Joyce and Co while they try to oust the mind flayer from Will. Steve is only dragged along because he's literally unconscious and has no say in it. He goes along with it, because his MO is to protect whoever is there while they're doing whatever the plan is. Doesn't matter what the plan is for everyone else, Steve's remains "protect them while they do it."

Then in season 3, it's basically the same thing, except the teens and the kids are teamed up to take on the big meat mind flayer, while the adults go to close the gate to end this, save everyone.

Is it any wonder that this was the plan again, for Vecna? It's worked!! They got the job done three times now. And they lost Bob and they lost Hopper, but they weren't on the distraction team, so it's the forward team that's in danger right? It's Nancy and Steve and Robin who might not come home the way Hopper didn't. And they lost Billy, but he wasn't on the team- until then he'd actually been the enemy. The distraction team has always come home alive. Safe, even if not in one piece. Nancy's plan, enacted repeatedly now, has always worked.

Until it didn't. Until both distraction teams came home broken, lost. One too many rolls of the dice.

And as much as I do love a guilty Steve, this was Nancy's plan. This started with her. She has been the tactician from the beginning. It was almost certainly her call this time. They had a choice (they didn't), all of them could have walked away (they couldn't have), but they had faith in her. They trusted her plan. They had no reason not to.

But I can guarantee she's not going to forget that it was her plan that lost them. There wasn't anything else they could have done, but it doesn't matter. She's still going to blame herself. It won't stop her from going forward, won't stop her from making the next plan. But oh will it haunt her.

I honestly don't enjoy NZ's drinking culture and I get stressed out everytime I say "I don't drink" to someone. Because it means I have to explain I don't enjoy the taste of alcohol and I will have hear one of 3 responses:

1) "Oh, there's plenty of alcohol that tastes good!" - These people mean well but believe me, all alcohol tastes like shit to me. Don't change my mind. I'm good thanks

2) "FAKE ASIAN!" - Whenever I mention I don't like soju specifically in a convo where soju is mentioned. Usually as a joke but I've heard this response enough that I find it quite rude now. Bruv I'm not even fucking Korean? Also that's racist of you to one, deny my Asian identity bc of one Asian product I don't like and two tereotype me bc of one Asian product

3) "So what do you do for fun then?" - Answer is easy, sit on my ass at home. In bed, with my laptop. Sorry that I'd rather have fun in a more peaceful way rather than go out and get shit faced every weekend. I'd like to have a functioning set liver and kidneys when I'm 45 thank you very much.

The glorofication of getting drunk and being heavy drinkers fucking sucks. NZ's drinking culture is so nasty. I hate how it's considered cool to drink and get drunk. It's stupid. I hate it and I wished people can just leave me the fuck alone when I say I don't drink. I don't want to have to fucking explain why every fucking time. I'm tired and I just want to not be judged for choosing to be sober

I cannot escape #Now I'm thinking about how Wammy's orphans have such different perspectives on what they should do and what justice means...#to some of them (ex Near) it means catching sb legally by mostly lawful means and yeeting them into prison #to others (ex Mello) it means catching sb by any means necessary but still trying his best to avoid murder #and then to others (ex Tobias) murdering these people who he knows will escape sooner or later anyway is justice in itself #You try to put Wammy orphans down at a table to come to a collective agreement on how they should operate and they simply Cannot #Watari mildly fucked up when he made them ALL headstrong and under the belief that they're always the right one in the room #I bet any of them comes up w a cohesive plan and there's sb in the room IMMEDIATELY pointing out why that plan isn't it 😭#Obviously they'd still synch with each other if need be (ex Mello & Near) but forbid they work TOGETHER together as more than ~2 people #Tobias and Near would be such a funny duo esp. bc Near sees people resorting to murder as wrong and disgusting no matter if it's valid #meanwhile Tobias sees lawful justice as nothing but a farce because 99% of the time it does nothing besides giving a momentary #ego boost to the person who caught the criminal. and then beyond that it's no longer their business if the criminal escapes or not #but it IS very much everyone else's business; and why many live in terror daily wondering if their nightmare will return tomorrow #to be fair Tobias couldn't care less about their feelings 99% of the time either but Watari DID teach him to enact justice. and to him #getting rid of the root of the problem rather than locking it up IS justice. He perceives the problems from much closer than #other Wammy orphans ever have. He's RIGHT THERE in the middle of it whereas they're in some safe place far away from the victims #plus their backgrounds are far too different from his own to reach a consensus too... you can't make him believe prison = justice #just as you can't make them believe murder = justice. But I do think people would prefer Tobias' approach far more than idk Near's #again it's not like Tobias cares about how he's perceived by the people he saves! (or if he's even perceived at all) but I can imagine #going to sleep knowing the person/people/group/etc having it out for you no longer exists is a much more heartening sentiment than #hearing they've been sent to prison; from where they can send sb else after you or from where they can escape in due time

#Mighty Space Miners #anime #OVA #Oira Uchuu no Tankoufu #it's on the lost media wiki so I'm going to count it as lost by technicality #no one knows if they made more material besides the two episodes of a planned six? that exist #ep 4 was apparently titled Facism if that tells you anything about the stakes in this OVA #(it should but it also doesn't bc the stakes never leave the 100s range halfway through the first episode)#like holy shit now that I'm an adult I can actually comprehend the stakes #it's one of those OVAs I grew up with bc of my dad but that no one else in my friend group had heard of #but I was younger than the protagonist when I first watched it (he's 12)#so I missed the details like... the mining operation is owned by a corporation #the corporation installed a nuclear bomb in the middle of the mining operation as a failsafe for ??? reasons #the mining base is in a deteriorating orbit that's headed directly for earth's atmosphere #earth may possibly have decided fuck them and threw a warhead at them at the start of the OVA #and so on. these are things I can appreciate about the narrative and say the stakes just keep escalating #ep 2 ends with a 'to be continued' and I FUCKING WISH IT DID #but this came out in 1994 and it's never gotten completed rip #anyway yeah I watched it twice this month I have access to the video file I cannot be stopped

Prince Fluff: "Yeah, and I'm not afraid to hurt him back."

Prince Fluff turned around with an angry huff, walking down the hall without even bothering to know if he was going in the right direction, fully expecting Zan to lead the way regardless. (He was already going the right way, though, so it's fine.)

Zan: "Fluff--"

Zan hurriedly followed after him, quiet for a moment, but once she realized he was already heading the right way, she spoke again.

Zan: "...I'm sorry if I upset you."

Prince Fluff ignored her words.

[Looks like there's some tension between these two now thanks to Prince Fluff's outburst. Hopefully it won't cause problems later on...]
