shoutout to Rusty Rose's Birdie, who only appears in the very first and very last eps for some reason 😭 her speech about it not being her power source came outta nowhere too, but i loved the message behind it

when everyone arrives at the Grim, just before the ep ends, Nine starts breathing heavily and it. instantly reminded me of Movie!Tails when the bar was calling them freaks. fuck. its a nice reminder of where Nine's coming from

speaking of Nine his poses getting more unhinged over time!! hell yeah

i love that the final fight(s) felt like a kid smashing 3 different Lego sets together, real Robot Pirate Island shit

i laughed a little too hard when the Grim's dome started closing in cus Nine's citadel-thing already reminded me of a thing that happened in Fortnite once, but hell naw they had to add The Storm too sdfghj

METAL BIG DESTROYED ME LJKHGFDV im SO glad i wasnt spoiled about it!!! a while in i started finding it creepy instead of funny, which is an added bonus

i was spoiled about the Advance flashback and its clashing sprites though. the utter whiplash of seeing that without warning mightve made me choke on my hot cheeto puffs. someone's already remade it btw, check it out

we're four years into the 2020's and Sonic has nearly died an agonizingly slow death 3 times in 3 different continuities! and dare i say it was delicious every time >:)

unless Word of God says otherwise I'm gonna assume that the giant shadow at the end was The Return Of Metal Big lpoihgfds

So... Twitter, huh? My spoiler filters there had some leaks, and I saw some discussion out of context that... actually made me kinda scared to finish the show. But then I did, and had fun with it just like the other two seasons, and I remembered that Twitter gets high-strung about things that don't matter so much, and that giving it sway over how much I enjoy things is silly lol.

Yes, I think the last season could've been paced differently so it wasn't 5 episodes of the same Final Boss Fight. Yes, I think the writing switches jarringly between gearing for a young new audience and for a seasoned old one. Yes, I think the 2D flashbacks look and move worse than what fans constantly make for free. Yes, I think the final episode doesn't do nearly as much housekeeping as it should (does the Shatterverse still exist or not??). Yes, I think declaring the show is canon to the games or whatever they said probably wasn't the best idea. And yes, I think Black Rose should've had a shoulder-parrot!Birdie to match the other Amys. All valid critiques! All sensible things to think when you've been around the Sonic bush!

But I swear to god, people on Twitter act like these things spoil the whole package. Where's the nuance? Why does every opinion there become an absolute worth tearing others down for? Is it the character limit? I bet it's the character limit.

There's so much I love about this show that were infeasible for the Sonic brand just 3-4 years ago. Externalizing the characters' facets to explore them in-depth. Said exploration spanning multiple episodes instead of being one-and-done. The sheer amount of genuine Sonadow food (and I don't actively do shipping, so me adding it here should hold a lot of weight). The snappy, playful, yet blistering fight scenes that, dare I say, feel like a successful TV-budget Spider-Verse. It was all so much fun!

But I guess stuff like Green Hill being the gang's "home" is a big deal-breaker?? Like?? I thought that was silly too, but not worth ratio'ing people with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse over? Get well soon, I guess??

Rambling over, shout-out to the entire country of Canada for giving me the most fun I've had with a Sonic show since X! I'm gonna go figure out how to address all this as The End lol

"You sure you knew how to drive?"

"Fuck off! I've been driving for half an hour already and you're just asking!?"

"I'm just asking, what's wrong with trying to confirm my safety!?"

"You should've asked that before you even get on my bike!"

"Ha!?"

Chifuyu sweat dropped as he watched the interaction between you two—a pair of chaotic cousins.

Probably because of the wind, you two are unable to hear each other properly. This is the passable reason that Chifuyu thought to himself—he's convinced you two are talking quite normally, yelling at each other because you both can't hear sounds properly due to the harsh wind.

What a sweet mind that is.

You three finally arrived at the apartment building and you learned from Keisuke that Chifuyu also lives here in the same apartment building—on the 2nd floor while Keisuke's are on the 5th floor.

"Wow, destiny huh?" You asked smiling as you three climbed up the stairs, Chifuyu tagged along saying he'll stay with you guys in Keisuke's house.

Keisuke rolled smirked as he watched you look around, familiarizing yourself to the other apartment as you slowly make your way to your destination— Keisuke's apartment a.k.a where you'll be staying.

"Mom, we're home!" Keisuke yelled, Chifuyu letting you in first with a smile and a gesture.

You chuckled at him and took a step inside, eyes brightening at the sight of the familiar floral wallpaper.

Hearing a set of footsteps walking towards you, you looked over and saw your aunt looking at you with a big smile on her face, obviously happy to see you.

"Oh dear, you're finally here!" Aunt Baji walked over towards you and cupped your cheeks in her hands, you're guessing she came from the kitchen because her hands were slightly cold and wet—also, she's wearing an apron. "Juts look at you, you look so beautiful. You've grown so big compared to the last time I saw you, you're probably on the same height as Keisuke, you both looks like twins."

"Thank you aunt, you also looked very beautiful." You said with a smile.

Meanwhile, Keisuke popped his head from the kitchen to show an offended face, "We obviously don't look a like!"

Chifuyu chuckled, "You kinda do."

"Oh, Chifuyu's also here? Come. Come, you three. I've cooked meals for you guys."

"Thank you, Ma'am." Chifuyu politely said, entering the kitchen and sitting beside Baji.

Aunt Baji was rarely home because of work, her husband nowhere to be found so she raised Keisuke herself. She's carefree in life and serious at work, experiencing the hardship of a single Mom while also tolerating Keisuke's shenigans— his troublemaking talent and him being in a Gang.

You held respect to Aunt Baji, because she's like your Mom.

"Sit besides me dear. I took a day off today to cook for you, so enjoy yourself."

Sitting beside your Aunt, you smiled. You thanked her while she told you not to be polite, afterwards hitting Keisuke's hands because he was acting like a person who hasn't eaten for years—he's literally taking food with bare hands.

"Keisuke! What kind of attitude is that, you already eaten half of the food!"

"Mom I'm starving" Keisuke childishly complained, munching on a unadon.

"But you just ate—

"Eat up, Chifuyu." Keisuke shamelessly interrupted Chifuyu as he placed a piece of tempura on his plate to shut him up, the blonde shaking his head and silently eating.

But Aunt Baji wouldn't have that. She crossed her arms and reprimanded Keisuke, "How are you starving when you finished two peyoung Yakisoba by yourself, huh?"

You laugh at that as you picked a grilled Eel (ofc with chopsticks) and placed it on Aunt Baji's plate, "Let him be Aunt, he got hungry looking for me. Here, Aunt cooked delicious food, we better enjoy it. Right, Aunt?"

Aunt Baji smiled and patted your head, "Of course, you must also be tired. You and Keisuke could share a room for now, I haven't clean the extra room yet."

"Sure thing Aunt. Also, you don't have to worry about cleaning, I'll do it tomorrow." You said, putting a thin slide of beef on your mouth.

"Thanks dear, Aunt is so busy with work. I'll probably be home every night, so I'm sorry if I can't join you in a shopping. You could take Keisuke and Chifuyu, these two probably has few things to do."

Keisuke flinched at the mention of his name. He was talking to Chifuyu about something you aren't interested in listening, but Keisuke was actually dividing his attention between Chifuyu and the conversation between you and aunt. Obviously he heard the word shopping and trust me, this boy has trauma about it—especially if the one shopping is you?

Nope! Nah-uh, he won't be going anywhere!

"Of course Aunt, of course." You said, eyes shining with evil light as you smirked at Keisuke who's already looking at you with 'Bitch—no' face while Chifuyu blinked at you with confusion.

You winked at Chifuyu and his confusion turned into bashfulness as he look away, eating silently.

Baji leaned against the counted with crossed arms, watching you do the dishes with uninterest gaze.

"So why'd you come back?"

"Hm?"

Baji rolled his eyes at your display of fake puzzlement. You clearly knew what's he's talking yet you're just humming as response to his question, acting like you have no idea what's the deal.

"Oi."

"...."

"You're really gonna ignore me? I remember you saying you won't ever come—

"Kei, have I ever tell you that you're so handsome?" You asked so suddenly as you interrupt him, placing a clean plate at the side.

"...." Keisuke stared at you for a few seconds before rolling his eyes, ,arm crossed. "Yeah you have, you even said I'll look more handsome in a devil costume."

Oops. Frankly you did say that to him, and you remember a little Keisuke asking Aunt Baji for a devil costume—he even cried because Aunt already ordered a dracula costume just for him because that's what he wanted at first (until you ruined it with your compliment)

"That was when we were seven."

"But you still—

"Kei, shut it. I got bored with my brother's antics so I moved in here to spend my precious time: Unfortunately, with you."

I have no excuse for this. I didn't even have a plan with this. I just wanted to write Sera and writing Sera always comes with her teasing Talon. And somehow it ended up to be this. Don't ask me where I was planning (I didn't) to go with this, I do not know it myself.

It's modern AU. And I typed it entirely on my phone, with no intend to upload it at first. But now I did anyway because I'm still impressed I got some writing done, even if it's just random. Hope you enjoy.

Talon yawned, hands clutching his coffee mug. He was at his and Aiden's favorite Café, having breakfast with his sister.

Aiden wasn't with them this time. He was at home, most likely still in bed, and honestly, Talon kinda wished he could be there too, cuddled up against his boyfriend.

"You look tired. Are you okay?" Sera asked, stealing a piece of watermelon from her brother's fruit salad. Another yawn was her answer.

"Yeah." Talon nodded. "Aiden came back from Canada yesterday. It was kind of a long night, that's all."

Sera wiggled her eyebrows. "Long night, huh?" She sounded amused. "I see."

Talon reached over the table to shove her shoulder. "Shut up. Not what you think," he scolded. Sometimes he really wondered who exactly was the mature one here.

"I picked him up from the airport in the middle of the night. It took us nearly two hours to get home. Aiden was completely gone once his head hit the pillow."

"Is it just me or do you sound disappointed?"

He gave his sister another shove. "Shut up, I'm not," he muttered, but his cheeks and ears colored a light red. A clear sign that he felt embarrassed.

"I'm happy he's back. I missed him."

Talon's older sister chuckled. "Yes, I know. You've been moping about it the entire time while he was gone."

"No, I didn't."

"You totally did."

"No."

"Yes"

"No."

Sera laughed at the way Talon's face got even more red from her teasing.

"Aw, no need to be embarrassed about it. I think it's cute." She smiled.

"Never thought I would ever see my baby brother being so attached to someone. You grew so much. I'm proud of you."

Sera wiped away an imaginary tear in mock emotion. But deep down, she really meant what she said. She was glad Talon had learned to open up and let someone in. She was glad it was Aiden, too. He was good for her brother.

Talon hid his face in his hands. "God Sera, can you stop being embarrassing? It's too early for that."

She grinned. "Never. Embarrassing you is basically my job. I'm your big sister."

"You're annoying is what you are," Talon muttered.

"Hey," Sera pointed at him with her fork. "Respect your elder."

Talon snorted. "What are you, sixty?"

"It sure as hell feels like it sometimes." Sera grimaced. "My back is killing me lately."

They laughed. Suddenly Talon's phone display lit up, showing a new message.

It was from Aiden.

Sera leaned forward to try and sneak a look at the message, as usual lacking any sense of privacy (much to her brother's dismay) and smiled to herself as she saw that Talon had a picture of his boyfriend set as his lockscreen.

Talon snatched the phone away from the table and his sister's curious gaze to read the text. Sera watched as he smiled to himself, typing out an answer.

Ah, young love, she couldn't help but think. Cute.

Talon would probably kill her with his fork if she would've said it out loud, or scold her for sounding like a grandma again.

So Sera kept quiet, taking a bite of her scrambled eggs instead.

"He just woke up," Talon said, still looking down on his phone and Sera wasn't sure if he talked to her or to himself. "Asked me where I am. Idiot, didn't he read the note I left him?"

He shook his head, pretending to be annoyed, but Sera noticed the fondness in her brother's voice. (She didn't know one could call someone an idiot so affectionately.)

She smiled. "Seems like someone misses you, huh?"

Talon answered to her teasing by flipping her off, not even bothering to look up from his phone. But he smiled, too. Sera leaned back in her seat, chuckling.

"Why are you here anyway? I half expected you to not show up at all, given the fact Aiden just came home. You haven't seen each other in what, a month? I thought you'd be all over him now that he's back, given how much you were pining after him while he was gone."

"I was not pining," Talon stated, throwing a grape at his sister. Sera successfully dodged it.

"And I came because I didn't want to stand you up. We meet every second Saturday. Aiden was still sleeping, he's tired from the flight and needs some rest, otherwise I would've asked him to join."

He took a sip from his coffee. "I was trying to be polite here."

"Since when have you ever been polite?" Sera laughed.

Her brother only scoffed as an answer.

He could have breakfast with Aiden in his warm bed right now, thank you very much. Instead, he sat here and let his older sister make fun of him.

"The way you keep teasing me, I start to regret it. I should've dumped you after all."

Sera pouted. "Aw, don't be like that."

Another message from Aiden popped up on Talon's screen, catching the attention of both siblings.

Oh, I see, till later then. Have fun. And greet Sera from me. I love you.

A soft smile spread on Talon's face as he stared at the message. A rare one, Sera noted. (Rare to everyone that wasn't Aiden, that is.)

It surprised Sera every time how Aiden managed to get her brother to react like this. He's really gone for this boy, isn't he?

"Oh my God." She rolled her eyes. It was a playful gesture. "Hurry up and go home to him already. I start to feel guilty about keeping you from him."

"What?" Talon asked, confused, only now looking up from his phone.

His sister crossed her arms.

"I said go to your boyfriend and spend some long overdue time with him, goddammit."

She grinned and made a gesture as if to shoo Talon away.

"We can meet up next time. Do us all a favor and go to your Aiden now. I think you two need it."

Talon warned to protest at first, but Sera fixed him with a glare that said not to argue with her and he really wanted to go see his boyfriend, so he nodded, grabbed his jacket and stood up.

"Okay. I'll go. Thanks, Sera." Hurriedly he put on his coat and kissed his sister's cheek. "I'll text you later. Bye."

"Goodbye, Tal. Tell my favorite in-law I said hi," she joked.

Talon stuck out his tongue to her and Sera replied by doing the same, laughing.

Then he went to the counter to pay for his and Sera's breakfast, getting apple pie for Aiden along the way because he knew how much his boyfriend loved the cake here, and made his way outside, waving goodbye to his sister.

Sera chuckled, waving back. As she watched him leave, she took a sip from her orange juice, thinking about how glad she was to see her brother finally be so happy again.

just some background information: I imagine this takes place when Talon and Aiden are in their last year of college, a good while after their relationship break, mind you, where they finally got their shit together again (it's also like, a year before their engagement I think). as you might (or not) know, Aiden went abroad for a year during the relationship break, working for a wolf center in Canada. He grew pretty fond of the place, the animals and people there so from time to him he visits the center for a month or so if given the opportunity. that's where he returned from in this short, too.
