1. If someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
There’s a fairly unknown fantasy series called “The Time Master Trilogy” (with an extremely problematic and rapey sex scene :s) and I’ve always felt horribly identified with character of Cyllan. Alternately, an easier find would be Alice Munro’s short story “Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage.” Both embody the same way I view myself and how I inhabit my body as a thing that should be ornamental and yet is not and how desperately and humiliatingly I wish it COULD be.
My terrible views on what I consider romantic (and everything I wish I could write when I’m writing a romance story) can best be viewed in the movie “The Princess and the Warrior” by Tom Tykwer. True love is when he gives you a tracheotomy. ❤️ My views on what friendship and school stories (two things I can’t stop wanting to write about) should be like are displayed in the movie “The Hairy Bird” by Sarah Kernochan.
The Cure was the first band I ever liked that wasn’t a happy, poppy, eighties band. It was and remains my one and only favorite band which I may forget from time to time but against which no others will ever compare. When I was a wee, angsty tween I decided Closedown from the album Disintegration was MY song and I’ve never had reason to regret my choice. To this day I wish I was as expansive, light, heartbreaking and generous as the beats of that song are. I still hear deep within myself “if only I could fill my heart with love.”
5. Do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing? Do you identify yourself by the things you do?
I… actually really like this question. It pokes at a very raw part of myself. Because to a large extent I DO define myself by what I’ve managed to accomplish and in many ways that is still precious little, just the bare minimum of what I WISH I could do. And for a long time I was disgustingly and smugly proud of having set this standard for myself and others, that only what you DO matters and very little of what you SAY does.
It came about partially for good reasons, because for a long time I felt I had surrounded myself with people who were too proud of BEING smart and creative without actually DOING anything smart and creative, but also people who spoke of love very easily while not acting very loving.
I’m struggling with letting this standard go, because I feel it has made me a smaller and pettier person, with myself and with others. There’s a growing sense in the greater cultural consciousness that we have been lied to, when told that we can’t just be, and that we should always be struggling and hustling. I thought I had made a personal choice but I’m not so sure anymore…
10. Do you have a creed?
No… not really… I wasn’t raised religious and the last couple of years have been such a nonstop barrage of re-examining and reconstructing my idea of myself that I don’t think I know much about myself anymore. I’m mostly progressive, but also mostly non confrontational. I used to be a pacifist but I’m not sure anymore…
More than a creed I feel like I have a mantra: a little is better than nothing. A little activism is better than no activism. A little work on my dreams is better than no work at all. A little self-care is better than abandoning myself. A little empathy goes a long way…
15. Five most influential books over your lifetime.
I think those are the five books that taught me something I didn’t know before. So…
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, because that was my very first book. My dad used to tell it to me as a bed time story. A book of Tolkien illustrations was the first book I ever picked out by myself in a bookstore, long before I could read it on my own.
Lolita, because I didn’t know you could write like that without being a native English speaker, not just well but exquisitely. I can still quote my favorite lines by heart.
A Room of One’s Own, because I didn’t know you could write fiction to argue a point so eloquently. I never knew you could carry an argument so convolutedly and yet so masterfully across so many different fictional scenarios. I remember being obsessed with the word “incandescent” for a long time after reading it.
The Wintersmith and the Sandman series, because I didn’t know I wanted to write stories about stories before reading them.
26. How would you describe your gender / sexuality?
I am painfully average 🤦🏻‍♀️ painfully cisgender and straight…
….
When I was very young I felt sort of identified with the term pansexual. But I feel like the most honest truth is that the people I’m more likely to be attracted to are masculine presenting I guess? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve only dated cisgender dudes but I don’t think that’s ALL I’m attracted to… I do still feel like my attraction is mostly targeted at personalities rather than physical appearance, at least in the real world. I like the occasional beefcake but if their brain is not sexy I don’t think I would be able to muster attraction.
In conclusion I’m way more confused about my orientation than my gender! Yay!
29. Three songs that you connect with right now.
I can’t stop listening to the reprise of Wait for Me from the musical Hadestown and feeling the deep, good chills every time I do.
I also keep drawing awesome fantasy art in my head to the tune of Constellations by the Oh Hellos.
And I got Lady Gaga’s Alejandro stuck in my brain again for some reason or another. And that one makes me weirdly emotional o_O

Quarantine tag game!

Tumblr media
(Gif of me the last few weeks)
ARE YOU STAYING HOME FROM WORK OR SCHOOL?
I’m not working. And I don’t have to/can’t job hunt since everything is closed.
IF YOU’RE STAYING HOME, WHO IS THERE WITH YOU?
My husband and the cats. He works in the healthcare system, so he’s gone during the week. And we have been Lysoling his shoes lmao and putting his clothes into a plastic bag when he gets home and he does that laundry on the weekends.
ARE YOU A HOMEBODY?
Yes and no. Right now that I can’t choose what to do, it’s making me restless.
AN EVENT THAT YOU WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT GOT CANCELLED?
We had a LOT of plans in March and April. Birthday parties for friends and fam, friends visiting, us going to the east side of the mountains to visit friends, we had a trip planned to go hiking in the Hoh rainforest next weekend with friends... let’s just say every Saturday (except our hermit weekend we have once a month for self care) in March and April was booked and half the Sundays. Watching each weekend pass by and see the stuff I had written on the calendar not happening is not the funnest way I like to spend time.
WHAT MOVIES HAVE YOU WATCHED RECENTLY?
We watched Carnival of Souls for the first time last night. Odd but I can see the influence it had on horror movies following it. We watched Legend (2015) which was good. We watched Invisible Man (really good).
WHAT SHOWS ARE YOU WATCHING?
I finished season 3 of Sabrina finally and watched the first season of Luna Nera. We are working through West Wing from the beginning. Also watching season 3 of Attack on Titan and have season 3 of Castlevania to watch. Still working through Peaky Blinders and took up Thieves of the Woods. Ofc, Supernatural is back on and I’ve missed the last two weeks because I keep forgetting it switched to Mondays! I should stream on the CW.
WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
I’ve been spinning (lol) Grimes’ and the Birthday Massacre’s latest albums A LOT. Run the Jewels released a few singles. Beach Bunny, PVRIS (GIVE ME THE NEW ALBUM!), Little Dragon released a new album, Gaga’s “Stupid Love”, Megan Thee Stallion’s got a new album, DRAMA...
WHAT ARE YOU READING?
I like to read a lot of different things at one time... “The Hand on the Wall (Truly Devious #3)” by Maureen Johnson, “Hold Me Closer Necromancer” by Lish McBride, “The Gilded Wolves” by Roshani Chokski, and “IT” by Stephen King (I have been reading this for 1.5 years LMAO and I am only on page 330 which isn’t even 1/4 of the way thru the book).
WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR SELF CARE?
I am brushing up on my German and I took up Spanish thanks to Duolingo. Been doing that every day to feel like I’m not wasting this time. I have also taken up a workout routine the last month and am continuing that (added some extra work outs this month now that I’ve gotten into the groove). Texting friends, FaceTiming. Keeping the apartment clean because that puts so much stress on me when I see shit out of order. Sticking to our meal planning but still having a cheat day even though we can’t go out! This week, I found Arby’s curly fries at the store and we made our own Arby’s sandwiches with mock Arby’s sauce. That really made me happy.

3. bubblegum or cotton candy?
I’ll say bubble gum because I want it more often than I want cotton candy. Also more flavors. Cotton candy is fun but only every once in a while and during certain instances.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Lmao what does any of this mean to me???? I’ll say boho I guess. Idk. I wear the clothes I wear.
9. favorite smell in the summer?
Sunscreen. But specifically the Hawaiian Tropic brand. That shit always smelled amazing!!
12. name of your favorite playlist?
A Heart to Stand In. It’s music by Janelle Monáe, Eryn Allen Kane, Emily King, and Lianne La Havas. Makes me feel warm.
15. favorite book you read as a school assignment?
I really loved A Mercy by Toni Morrison and The Poisonwood Bible by Barbra Kingsolver. Definitely wanna reread both books.
18. ideal weather?
65 degrees, sunny, little to no humidity, light breeze.
21. obsession from childhood?
The Little Mermaid was my favorite movie when I was young. Ariel is my favorite princess. I quite literally got potty trained because my mom bribed me with a Little Mermaid Barbie doll.
24. favorite crystal?
My very good friend gave me a rose quartz necklace, so I’ll have to say that one.
27. favorite activity to do in cold weather?
Sit inside with a warm blanket and a good book.
30. places that you find sacred?
Ft. Tryon Park. My shower at my mom’s house.
33. most used phrase in your phone?
Lol probably this string of emojis ✌🏻✨💖. I always put the first two and then change the third on like all of my posts.
36. what is the first meme you remember ever seeing?
The ones with the plain color backgrounds and like one image in the middle. Like philosoraptor. With the top text and bottom text.
42. jacket pockets or pants pockets?
I love it when my jacket has pockets so I don’t have to worry about having stuff in my pants pockets. Ruins the line of the pants. The look.
45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero?
Tie between sci-fi and fantasy. I go between the two a lot. I love how they present ideas and issues in unexpected ways.
48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be?
Probably a grape. Idk. I like grapes.
51. current stresses?
When I have to check out of my airbnb, lugging my shit around tomorrow, getting to the airport tomorrow, having enough time to see and do everything/everyone I want to before I leave for my next job.
54. what did you learn from your first job?
People skills. Customer service skills. How to sound like you’re enthusiastic about something when you’d rather be asleep.
57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome?
A really personal one always sneaks in somehow. I’d say the whole coming out experience, various traumas. That’s all you’re getting.
60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be?
None. I’m not a weeb.
63. five songs that would play in your club?
I Don’t Want It At All - Kim Petras, Harleys in Hawaii - Katy Perry, Teeth - Lady Gaga, Green Light (Chromeo Remix) - Lorde, Soulmate - Lizzo.
66. favorite flower(s)?
I’m basic. Roses are really pretty. Plumerias, gardenias, and hibiscus are also great.
69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned?
There’s always room for dessert because your body’s response to sugar is that the lining of your stomach expands.
72. worst subject?
Math. Next question.
75. when did you lose your first tooth?
When I was a child. Idk.
78. coffee from a gas station or sushi from a grocery store?
Don’t eat sushi, so gas station coffee it is.
81. fireflies or lightning bugs?
Are they not the same thing? I like both names. They’re both evocative in different ways.
84. podcasts or talk radio?
I’ve really been in the podcast game lately.
87. your greatest fear?
Oh my god. I’m not answering this! This is a fun ask game.
90. luckiest mistake?
Hahaha idk. This is tough because I think most of my mistakes have been very unlucky. I’m not blessed enough to have made any lucky ones.
93. nicknames?
Hunty is the most obvious/common one. But one of my castmates from tour started calling me Huntress and I honestly stan.
96. desktop background?
It’s a production photo from when I was in Damn Yankees my freshman year of college. I was in the Heart trio.

writer’s interview
tagged by @a-shakespearean-in-paris thank you darling!! 🥰 i’ll tag @veridium-bye @fourletterepithet @gingerbreton @caffeinated-mabari @apostatetabris @gothkimmyschmidt
Q: What is your coffee order? depends on where i go!! if it’s dunks, a medium iced dark roast with one cream and whatever flavor swirl i feel like that day (lately it’s been thin mint tho). starbucks, usually a hot or iced latte. any other cafe, either a hot or iced latte or a hot or iced mocha but ONLY if they use cocoa powder and not syrup.
Q: What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done? i don’t??? really do cool things?? i mean there are probably *objectively* cooler things i’ve done but my favorite going-out experiences, which are the coolest things to ME, are the concerts i go to. my favorites in the past ~5 years have been paul mccartney, fall out boy/paramore, the first time i saw arctic monkeys (not that the second time was bad it’s just that you never forget the first), awolnation (both times tbh), don henley, lorde, lady gaga, all five times i’ve seen chevelle tbh, houndmouth, band of horses, elo, the fratellis......idk, it’s just like, going to see live music just makes me feel like i’m on a different plane of existence i know that’s corny but that’s just how i feel and so much of what i write and who i am is inspired by music soooo.
Q: Who has been your biggest mentor? my intermediate magazine writing professor from my sophomore year!! i don’t write magazine stuff anymore but even beyond the class material, she’s just such a genuine and supportive person. i miss visiting her office hours. i haven’t seen her since she did a book launch near my neighborhood two years ago.
Q: What has been your most memorable writing project? in terms of fanfic, definitely AWA. seeing my own creative style grow is so wonderful, and seeing ellinor’s journey actually come to life is equally as amazing! outside of fic, i was a music journalist in college and got to interview bands and stuff when they were in boston, so that will always be a really memorable experience for me. i miss those days. now i pay for my concerts like the rest of the peasants.
Q: What does your writing path look like, from the earliest days until now? my earliest memories of creative writing come from when i was about 8 or 9. my sister and i collected beanie babies, build-a-bears, and various other stuffed animals and had an entire made-up universe, complete with families, romances, plots, and an economy. we use to fold and staple printer paper together and write six page stories about them. i think we had over 30 booklets at the peak of it. i went on to write creatively in high school and then attend college for writing, focusing in creative writing. ironically, this made me despise writing creatively. i switched my focus to magazine publishing and pursued publishing and editorial, which is my professional field now. i didn’t delve back into creative writing until the tail end of my senior year of college, where i wrote my first(!) fic, a still-unfinished and never published skyrim longfic (it’s hanging in at around 50k words). i lost it again for a little while and then decided to jump back into fic writing this summer when a particularly depressive period of my life led me to the dragon age fandom. i hope to continue pursuing it as a hobby for the near and far future!
Q: What is your favorite part about writing? language!! playing with style, rhythm, cadence. i never write poetry and likely never will, but i always treat my prose as one would treat something more poetic in that i take a lot of pride in how it sounds and how it rolls of the tongue when you read it.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you? wake up. question whether i really need to partake in society. get up for real, shower, eat, go to work, pray that the mbta doesn’t fuck up my commute (it usually does), roll into work toting coffee for me and my work BFF (unless it’s her turn for coffee), answer emails from dumb people, and finally do the bulk of my work, which is copyediting biological and medical research!! then i come home, have dinner, and either watch movies with my sister (who is also my roommate) and her bf or write or play xbox. then sleep!
Q: What does your writing process look like? i jot down a lot of important parts, parts that stick in my mind, heavy dialogue, etc in advance—sometimes chapters and chapters in advance. then i’ll take whatever i already have for a chapter and work around it, tying bits together, usually working from the last scene, then the first, then the middle. then a single rushed proofread and post!! i don’t sit on chapters for fear i will end up hating it after looking at it too many times.
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve gotten? don’t break the rules until you know them. (this is important, to me, for grammar and style. personally.)
Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned? writing raw, realistic characters inevitably means that some people won’t like said characters and that’s just something you have to deal with.
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing? consume!! works!! consume books, consume film, consume plays, consume music, consume tv, consume art, develop a taste and decide your favorite things, ask yourself why it’s your favorite. what made that particular fic so heartwrenchingly good, or what was it in that movie that moved you to tears, or what themes of that album made it the best one that band has ever put out? MAKE NOTE OF THIS. let your favorite things influence you and mold your style and let it run into what you create, not because you’re copying it but because you know what it’s like to be so moved by something that you have to express it in your own terms. consume and create.

Girl Slings The Liquor (Lady Sally's # 2, Callahan's # 5) By Spider Robinson-- Evaluations, Conversation,.
The Post-Vulgate Cycle's second Woman of the Lake is called Ninianne, and also her tale is nearly the same to the one in the Lancelot-Grail, though it includes her bestowal of the magic sword Excalibur to Arthur. http://sincere-smile.info/ have the tendency to be extremely responsive - it could become dry, scratchy or inflamed depending on the weather condition, your lifestyle as well as the items you make use of. Lady Windermere's Enthusiast is book Three in Miranda Neville's Bush Quartet Series and my very first. Natural leather sofas, shiny lamps, and also a flat-screen TV will certainly make your woman feel at home in your trysting place. Flirting with hubby dearest's previous friend appeared like the ideal revenge. Women repainted lady butterflies have been observed to have a fairly high organic potential", meaning they each create lots of offspring. Skin Tightening up - Laser skin firm is possible but less reliable than other skin tightening techniques. Just like every component of our body skin ages and brings about adjustments that mar the appearance totally. In Europe, prior to the Industrial Change, light skin was favored and signified high social standing. When you do not obtain enough good-quality rest, your skin could look plain, light and also sagging the next day. Take the entire fallen leave or twig (including the ladybug) as well as location it in your container when you find a ladybug. Pop music doesn't need to be blindingly original or brilliant to function: it requires songs, and also Girl GaGa is remarkably good at tunes. The name of the ship: Girl Elliot, christened after the wife of India's Colonial Guv. Creams moisten the skin by holding water in the outer layer of the skin. First Woman is the fourth installment in Susan Elizabeth Phillips's grown-up modern love series entitled Wynette, Texas. I am offering WOMAN EMILY'S EXOTIC EXPERIENCE 4 stars, and also I am excitedly eagerly anticipating the following book in the collection. The Penworths (Lord & Woman as well as their children Emily and also Julia) are a dense bunch, the women are well-read as well as every person takes pleasure in an experience. Lady: As a Spiritual Therapist I transport for my customers when they have a hard time creating responses and when I assume they are b-s-ing me. This is done emotionally. Originally, Declan expects a marital relationship that will include a girl other half to manage his home and also children while he cruises the world. That Xmas, Tramp's been embraced into the household, as well as he as well as Woman have actually begun their very own family members, with three daughters who look much like Girl and also a child that looks much like Vagrant Jock comes to see the family in addition to Reliable, who's still active as well as merely dealt with a busted leg, which is still healing. There's a very lovable queer ship in LADY OF MAGICK that I was supporting for each action of the means, makinged me delighted because 1) diversity in historic SFF and 2) SFF requires even more queer ships! http://sincere-smile.info/sung-sot-kem-chong-nhan-goji-cream-co-khong-con-can-thiet-de-chi-tieu-vao-dieu-tri/ hadn't recognized Woman of Magick was a second publication when I requested it, yet enjoyed it so much I really did not care (besides quickly putting publication 1 on my to-read listing). The Lady and also the Laird had balmy romance, hidden secrets, as well as the remnants of clan rivalries. Movie critic Agreement: Meryl Streep's efficiency as The Iron Lady is dependably ideal, however it's bogged down in bland, self-important storytelling. In early times, pale skin suggested that the individual really did not work hard on the fields as well as was very rich to have this luxury. This pair is thrown together as Lady Elizabeth assists him with the harmed, and a whiff of detraction begins to climb, offered what does it cost? time they spend together, he being an unmarried man and she a debutante (three seasons removed) from the nobility. Utilize the applicator that includes the kit to spread it carefully, preventing the delicate skin on your lips. This publication has to do with a girl called Elizabeth who went along with lady Jane grey into the tower. Vitamin An acquired retinoids scrub the skin to eliminate the discolored top layers of skin as well as change them with fresh, brand-new skin. I suched as exactly how all the tales consisted of Lady Whistledown's point of view- The Load's most adored snoop! When I told a good friend of mine that I was interested in composing historical romance, she offered me Woman Whistledown Strikes Back, which she had actually just recently reviewed and also taken pleasure in. So, as thrilling as it is to see Streep mimic Thatcher, The Iron Woman feels like a missed out on possibility, not to blame as well as cast aspersions, however to consider and assess. I think that Woman Howard, from the get go of the transaction, believed some contrivance of the Captain; as well as this letter, I make sure, must validate her suspicion: nonetheless, though she is not happy with his romp, yet she would not hazard the consequence of finding his styles: her appearances, her fashion, and her character, made me attract this conclusion from her noticeable perplexity; for not a word did she state that suggested any type of question of the authenticity of the letter.

Wholesome Questionare Tag Meme
Tagged by @80sglamcowboy Rules are: -Post the rules -Answer the questions given to you by the tagger -Write eleven questions of your own -Tag eleven people
This is long as Hell, friends and I apologise.
One inquisitive bitch has asked me:
1. Name one person (real or fictional) that you think you could 100% take on in a fight
Foaming mouth guy from Avatar. He’s got no stamina, barely any health, no skill. He’s unfocused and weak and my noodley nerd-ass could take him. (Though I am a little concerned he has rabies.)
2. What’s your favourite snack rn
Grilled cheese w veggies, mustard, and grilled tofu w a side of ketchup made by my roommate. It’s honestly the purest thing.
3. Which apocalypse do you think you’d do the best in? (i.e. Nuclear winter/ robot uprising/ Too many vampires, etc)
O man. I love apocalypse movies and I love survival horror (that one episode of the X Files where they’re trapped in a cabin, anybody?). I also genuinely love camping and I’m a bit of a medical hobbyist. I also watched an unreasonable amount of prepper videos on YouTube. That said, as mentioned above, I am a couch potato weekling. Furthermore, I don’t do well in conflict so if the world hierarchy collapses into a power vacuum where you have to Orange is the New Black-style intimidate ppl for supplies, I would melt and die quickly.
My best bet, it would seem, is an Arrival-esque alien apocalypse where the ones who have enough patience and sci fi knowledge to communicate w aliens are at the top of the food chain. And worst case scenario it’s better for my ego to die at the hands of an alien than a human.
Sci go apocalypses are just cleaner y'know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

4. Best and worst fandom you’ve been in? Or have you somehow managed to avoid fandom completely?
Worst has to be Steven Universe. I regret not just moving on after I got bored. Ah well.
(I also think celebrity/real ppl fandoms are a dead end.)
My other fandoms all have various pros and cons and it’s hard to pick a favourite.
Adventure Time has great fanart, great meta and ppl have yet to descend into Homestuck-ian chaos. That said, they’re quiet af. People also fixate way too much on the fake fanfic AU Fionna and Cake. I have yet to read a really good Bonny/Marcy fic and that is a tragedy (a few have come close tho). Bottom line for AT tho is that it’s my go to wholesome cartoonist fandom. I like that it has depth but that it’s generally very simple and fun and that the fans are mostly shut in animation adults.
AtLA/LoK fandom’s biggest pro is that it’s huge and you literally never ran out of quality content. I’ve even made a few friends via this decade old franchise. It’s also enjoyably rich and complex. One of my favourite (now inactive) blogs was one that connected world building and little background Easter eggs to real Chinese history and culture. That wAs so cool!! I defs think as a Chinese person it allowed me to connect to non-western culture in a socially acceptable way.
The downsides tho are many: it can be overwhelmingly complicated (esp as someone who knows jack shit abt Chinese history), people take it too seriously, The Great Shipping Wars, it’s so big it’s a little lonely, the show itself has so many flaws upon greater inspection you wonder why you wasted your time on anything related to it, it’s an Asian themed story created by white dudes who make fun of their fans, the best parts of the show were written by other writers but those same white guys get k the credit. Also as w any fandom related to POC culture, racism happens. Anyways most of you know this already. IMO the best thing to have happened do the fandom is korrasami. Now it’s just abt Asian lesbians ruling the world.
(Though I also thoroughly enjoy the Family Rivalry part of the fandom. There are so mNy dysfunctional families to choose from!)
Rick and Morty is technically speaking my newest fandom. It’s got a lot of obvious cons (pickle Rick sexists, Szechuan sauce racists, asfhkkh incest) but one other con is just how pedantic and overly analytical people are abt the world building. I can’t breathe wo being corrected. RM has a misleadingly complicated high sci fi aesthetic that begets the kind of overanalysing my brand of overanalytical nerdiness can’t handle. Too many alternate universes. It’s just too complicated.
However one thing I like is that conversely I can overanalyse the writing and characters’ psychology/relationships (which I LOVE) and ppl take me very seriously. (At least they used to.) it’s kinda validating to have your 3k word essay on an old man’s bedroom and what that signifies for his depression get over 1k notes.
Rm also attracts the fun, super talented animation crowd so there’s boundless fanart and memes. I never knew I would like a gravity falls crossover retirement home AU btwn Rick and Stan so much but the art is objectively gorgeous?? So ??
I really dislike the lack of attention the female characters get from fandom bc they’re all really great? Female rep is limited but both canon and fic really do their 2-3 tokens justice. Also the jerry hatred is getting old (that male aggression… Like… Calm down, Jake) but it’s a refreshing departure drom when Megg from family guy was the butt of the joke.
Harry Potter, one of the pillars of nerd society, has both changed my life and irreconcilably annoyed me to death. (W no thanks to the racist creator herself!) One can’t underestimate how huge the hp fandom is which offers you as many reasons to love it as reasons not to. Harry Potter’s canon has complex world building that’s also charming enough not to take itself too seriously and much the same could b said of fanon. To a degree. Certain corners of the fanbase are fantastic shitposters and meme-ers and can draw you back in like a black hole. Casually enjoying Harry potter imo is where it’s at. The fanfic is probably one of the most impressively vast. Strangers at Drakesaugh, believe it or not, still updates and not only that, I still read it.
Not casually enjoying Harry potter is, um, yikes? HP and Hunger Games love to insert themselves appropriately in real life political traumas and honestly the dedication of the fandom can be overwhelming.
The HP fanart corner of deviantart circa 2010-12 and @flocc HP comics however are the best.
Meet the Robinsons, Ye Olde Fandom, still stands to this day. (Thanks in part to me ngl) As Iroh might say, they are a proud people. MTR is so bizarre and tiny it’s the only fandom I was able to read EVERY fic summary in existence (ones published on obscure sites excepted). The fandom has never ceased to surprise me for better or worse and mostly due to its age range. The original movie was intended for 8-12 yr olds and their (jaded) parents which means that now, ten years later, the fans are anywhere between 12 and 25. It has approximately 20 pieces of professional-grade fanart and fic and I am downright serious abt the quality and thoughtful complexity of this minority of fanart. Like I shit you not some of it’s almost too dark. However, tragically, one can’t talk abt obscure Disney fandoms wo also mentioning the incest ships (this is what happens when middleschoolers have to resort to cartoons to explore their sexuality in an anti sex ed world), the disorganised crossovers, and the blinding lack of imagination. Nonetheless, that a fandom of any kind could sprout from a 90 min cgi movie before the recession, based off an obscure but objectively fascinating children’s book, is still impressive. The fandoms smallness can in many wars work to everybody’s benefit: it’s a tightly knit community w little to no drama. And lots of memes (that I mostly make) to enjoy sincerely or ironically.
I’m also going to mention, very briefly, the Twin Peaks fandom, most of whom, even the die hards, are v casual when it comes to fan content (I need more fic damnit). Nonetheless it’s a decidedly cool art kid crowd for an art house show and I really enjoy befriending twin peaks watchers.
5. What’s one hot food that you prefer cold? (or, alternatively, one cold food you like hot)
Is it snobby to say I like food to be the temperature God intended?
Like I like cold pizza and salad-y pasta but I wouldn’t mind if everything were room temperature as long as the food itself was well made.
6. ya like jazz? What music do you enjoy listening to? Can you recommend any songs/ artists from that genre?
I think in some contexts I can like jazz. It’s very cosy and nostalgic, it can make you feel like a grand dame stepping out of your limo into your martini filled mansion as records pop around you and your fur carpeted living room. I also occasionally like jazz covers and alternate genres of jazz like electro swing etc.
Generally though I also think jazz is a little antiquated and a little all over the place. I lean more towards the ambiguous minimalism of mellow techno music like Jonna Lee, Grimes, Björk, early Lorde, Yasmine Hamdan, Austra, TRST, etc
I mean I don’t stick to just one genre (I imagine most ppl don’t). I like alternative (Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newsom) and some musicians who seem to completely exist outside of genre like iMonster and the Gorillaz. Not to mention straight up pop like broods, Ellie goulding, lady gaga and Lana del rey. (I mean technically Ldr isn’t pop but u get the ideer)
7. What binge worthy show do you like?
So many man. There are so many out there! Twin peaks, Transparent, Love, Grace and Frankie, Adventure Time, House of Cards, Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty, Mad Men, Girls, Broad City, Black Mirror, Avatar TLA, 6Teen, Chowder, Over the Garden Wall, Flapjack, the first season of Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, etc
The list goes on. I’m a TV fiend.
8. What’s an old meme that you miss and wish would be brought back?
Always liked the Gothic [x town or whatever] meme. It was like a text post version of the cursed images meme. Currently I’m really enjoying the song from another room meme and I hope even after it gets old it’ll make a comeback.
9. Tell me your aesthetic

O man. That’s a can of worms! Okay. Deep breath.
I like futurism, of all kinds. I like strong lines and clear shapes. I like colour blocking and minimalism and glass and holographic LED neons. I like white Japanese urban tiled buildings. I like aliens and ruins and cubes and white and colour blocking and black. I like technology and aliens and Comme des Garçons and Issey Miyake. Rooms that are empty but for one light and one window and one plant. Love that.
I like the midcentury cubism and Mod and 30’s futurism. Clear and strong industrial shapes and curves and post modernist abstractionism.
I also love nature, I love most every Björk and Iamamiwhoami music video. I love the mountains and the forests and the desert and the winter tundra and most of all I love the water. A vast expanse of sky and sea w so many colours and textures. I love the 2000s and funny blob shapes and y2k’s obsession w secondary colours and shiny round things. Love pink. I am a grown adult who will never tire of pink. (Though I don’t really like when people overdo pink.) I love cursed image family photos taken with flash in a suburb. I love the grime and the sanitary aesthetic of suburbs and hospitals and brutalist office spaces. The fluorescent lights of the institution but with purple carpeting!
I love 70s mod and I love colorful 80s brutalism I like it when houses are shaped weirdly and they have carpets and polished curved wooden countertops and spacious nothingness where everything looks clean and cosy and bizarrely ugly and it all looks like an art gallery w too many plants.
I also really love maximalism and wood and detail and fur and velvet and embroidery and silk and windows and wood carvings.
I love 70s kitsch like John waters movies and Shrimps designer fake fur CDG17 where they just piled on knickknack after knickknack onto white dresses w food long trains. Toys and novelty items and lamps shaped like a woman’s leg in a fishnet stocking. (See also: most Tim burton movies, wes Anderson, Carrie fishers house)
An overwhelming mishmash of wool patterns with clean cubic 70s architecture and so many plants and windows and wallpaper and candles and cobwebs. Also really like witchy mourning jewelry and essentially every house in Harry potter. Love the unfortunately racist boho/hippie aesthetic. Any house designed by bill kirsch is a masterpiece. Woven baskets on the ceiling piles of hats and art supplies everywhere. Stuff!! Everywhere! Hidden passageways reading nooks fireplaces the Pink Palace from Coraline!
Everything!!!
I’m a cartoonist who’s a nerd for design so I like when concepts are taken to the extreme in a humourously charming and clear-minded way. Whatever aesthetic someone chooses, they should go all out and really dedicate themselves to the highest form of that aesthetic. It has to be perfect without being sanitary of fake. It has to be alive yet beautiful, frozen in one perfect moment.
10. Favourite time of day and why?
Dusk. I think it’s a nostalgia thing. I loved the hours before bed time as well the hours before dinner when it was getting dark and the sun was reflecting freaky colours along the horizon while I ran around the grass. It’s cozy but it’s spacious and adventurous. So many things can happen at dusk!

11. You have the choice to live in any fictional universe - which one do you pick and why?
Harry Potter!!! You get the best of both worlds: magical, over-romanticised Victorian/medievalism, wish-fulfillment surrealism and wifi. It’s great. Likelihood of dying is so low, medicine is so advanced and even then ppls n°1 choice of lethal weapon (Avada Kedavra) is painless. Me and Luna could hang in her garden. I’d never have to pay for the subway again. I could live a nomadic life in a tent w infinite space. If you chose to live as a wizard amongst Muggles you’re basically god and you can cheat capitalism. Gravity is my bitch! And I’m not gna lie my dream house has always been a combination of The Burrow, the Lovegood house, and Shell Cottage.
My turn to pick your brain:
1 Favourite texture?
2 Favourite smell?
3 Favourite children’s book/children’s TV show? (I’m talking about the bizarre abstract ones for toddlers)
4 Best and worst prank you’ve ever pulled?
5 Weirdest beginning of a friendship?
6 When you’ve been in fandom for a while you start to notice you’ve a habit of staying in the same corners. What corner are you in? Are you part of the fluffy ship corner? The intense world building spec meta corner? The shitpost comic fanart corner? Etc
7 If you could invent a class that would be obligatory for all high schools across your country what would it be?
8 What’s the weirdest thing you’ve gotten at Halloween while trick or treating?
9 Weirdest family tradition of yours?
10 Describe your significant other (or your crush, or your dream partner or if you’re aromantic your fave person) through only TV references.
11 Favourite piece of dialogue in a movie?
I don’t know 11 ppl but nonetheless tagging: @that-guy-in-the-bowler-hat @skairheart @nochangenohope @eventheslightestrayofsunshine@autistic-jaredkleinman@phoenixkluke
…and YOU (if you were not mentioned above and so choose to accept this mission)

Name: Tristin
Nickname: I’ve never really been one for nicknames if I’m being quite honest. I like my name as it is I guesssss. I feel like the nicknames I do have vary by person too.
Gender: I consider myself a cisgender male, but like who even cares about gender constructs anymore amiright ladies???
Height: I’m 6′ which is cool because I can reach tall boi things.
Middle Name: Let’s go with G, I don’t really like my middle name and the majority of my documentation just has a middle initial.
Hogwarts House:
"Or perhaps in Slytherin, You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means, To achieve their ends."
Average Hours Spent Sleeping: I sleep like 2 hours or like 12 hours theres no in between tbh.
Dogs or Cats: Dogs but also cats and birds and lizards and literally I just love animals.
Dream Trip: I want to go to Australia. Melbourne and Sydney specifically. Really my dream trip would be a 2 month trip to Australia and I would take small trips within my trip to like Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, the works. I would love to work with animals for a little bit too.
Put your music on shuffle. First 6 songs!
Gypsy - Lady Gaga
Be Alright - Ariana Grande
Party Monster - The Weeknd
Homemade Dynamite - Lorde
Stone Cold - Demi Lovato
Cut It - O.T. Genasis
Grab the book nearest you and turn to page 23. What’s line 17?
“得意技” - Piloswine’s entry in the Japanese Pokedex book that I have
Ever had a poem or song written about you? I feel like it had to have happened at some point tbh but I’m drawing a blank.
Who is your celebrity crush? Natalie Dormer, Chris Hemsworth, Brittany Snow, Kit Harington, Nick AND Joe Jonas
What’s a sound you hate; sound you love?
Hate: There’s nothing I can think of tbh like sounds  don’t bother me too much I’m a strong boy.
Love: GOOD ACCENTS for example - Northern accents (Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota), Yorkshire accents, Aussie accents, Bronx and Harlem accents (Cardi B can talk to me all day). I actually love a lot of sounds like running water, wispy wind, laundry noises, rain, a bunch of stuff.
Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens?
Okay Yes and Yes like how can you deny the UNDENIABLE PROOF THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN BY ENDLESS DOCUMENTARIES ON BOTH TOPICS I’m scared of both ghosts and aliens. I’m not sure how closely I believe in aliens like I feel like in the infinite universe theres gotta be living beings SOMEWHERE out there, but I feel like if aliens were near earth I probably have been abducted at some point.
Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed? I drive SO MUCH my commute to school/work is about 35 minutes each way every day and also my bae lives like an hour and a half away and I gotta see him. I’ve been in 2 accidents within the last year, one was my fault and one was not. Before that I was in the clear with accidents.
What was the last book you read? Probably my textbook for my Workplace Diversity and Social Justice class - which was a good read btw lots of good leadership theories
Do you like the smell of gasoline? No I’d rather choke
What was the last movie you saw? Pitch Perfect 3 I think. I’ve watched a lot of movies recently.
What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had? A few broken bones. I got a concussion in middle school when I was roller skating and saw no problems until mid high school and then I had like a couple seizures that was crazy. But I’m good now.
Do you have any obsessions right now? Memes as always, LOOKING, Black Mirror again, Desperate Housewives again, my boyfriend, trying not to die, my job, Demi Lovato
Do you tend to hold grudges against people who have done you wrong?
Yes and no. I’m always one to give second, even sometimes third chances. But I’ll only allow myself to look stupid for so long, and once you cross the line that final time, it’s over. I’ll stay super professional and be nice to your face, but I only have a limited threshold when it comes to actually trusting or caring about somebody.
In a relationship? @gaysnakedad idk her but she's cute.
When I made this account? Fall of 2012 I think. My friend Morgan from high school told me all about it and I refused to get one at first but then I gave in and ruined my life.

I’ve seen like one ask meme full of year-end asks going around, but I didn’t really like the questions on it and also it’s not the one I’ve been doing for the past three years.  So, despite the fact that no one asked for this, here is a wrap-up of 2017!  Answers under the cut, as always.
1. What did you do in 2017 that you had never done before? This year wasn’t as full of exciting firsts as last, but let’s see what I can come up with.  I stayed at a hospital (twice), I visited the state of West Virginia (for spring break), I wore my binder at home, I participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange (three to be exact), I attended group therapy, I got a couple new diagnoses and tried new medications, I met David Sedaris, I saw John and Hank Green, I went to New York City, I tried sangria, I went to a brewery, I went to a film festival, I developed a crush on a boy, I went to a Classics conference, I won an award for a podcast I produced, I spoke at my school’s chapel, and I met Peter Staley.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? My New Year’s resolution was to make more media than I consume and to Tweet more.  I definitely do not Tweet more, and I’ve been working on the media thing (my job at the school newspaper ensures I do) but I would argue I definitely haven’t upheld that one either.  My only resolution for the next year is to get through graduation, and to find something to do this summer that will enable me to eat/pay rent for an apartment and focus on my mental health.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nobody I feel super close to, no.
4. Did anyone close to you die? No, thank goodness.
5. What countries did you visit? I stayed in the US of A.
6. What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017? Stability.  Peace and quiet.  A brain that remembers to pick up my medication when I need to.
7. What dates from 2017 will remain etched in your memory, and why? January 20 -- Inauguration and the protests surrounding it.  February 18 -- the day I met ACTUP activist Peter Staley at a Chicago art museum.  March 9 -- the day my LGBT alliance’s spring speaker came to campus (and all the ruckus surrounding that).  May 1 -- protests at my school and the class shut-down, and the day I spent so many waking hours in the school newsroom producing a podcast about it.   May 5 -- Dylan’s second birthday, and the day I was admitted to the hospital for the first time.   May 15 -- the Classics department BACCHANALIA, the thought of which got me through my first hospital stay.  June 11 -- the day I began a relationship with my second girlfriend.  June 18 -- the day my second relationship ended (shut up).  June 21 -- the day of my second hospital admittance.  August 19 -- Hannah’s 21st birthday, for which I flew into Chicago (we had a fantastic time).  October 14 -- the day Kit and I visited Stonewall and got Big Gay Ice Cream.  October 20 -- my 22nd birthday dinner, which was an excuse to eat calamari and cake with friends.  October 21 -- the day Hannah, Kit, and me made Halloween cookies and watched Sense8.   October 22 -- the day I saw John and Hank Green.  November 3 -- the day I saw Tegan and Sara for the second time!  November 5 -- the day Kit and I went to a David Sedaris reading.  November 10 -- the day Katie and I saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  November 20 -- my chapel talk.  December 23 -- the day I wore my binder to my Grandma’s house and faced my fears! (Yes, most of this is off the top of my head.)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Being alive, getting all A’s and a B+ for the fall semester, FINISHING all of my coursework for the spring semester and my summer class after the two hospitalizations, giving my incredibly vulnerable chapel talk.
9. What was your biggest failure? Hard to say.  I’m really not proud of the B+, though, since it was a class that I found easy and that I should have blown out of the water.  Oh well. I’m also learning not to consider the hospitalizations a failure.  I might have a few months ago.  But I didn’t go to the hospital because I messed anything up (for example, I was taking all of my medications!  both times!!!), I went because I was sick and couldn’t manage it by myself.  Not my fault.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I was deeply depressed for six months and low-grade depressed for four more.  So that sucked.
11. What was the best thing you bought? A button-down shirt with cats on it from Wildfang, a green hat with a very wide brim, all the various bath bombs I got, a Tegan and Sara baseball cap, these mussels during my vacation in Portland.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? All the nurses and doctors in the hospital, and my therapists outside the hospital.  My academic adviser for  keeping me on track academically, giving me life advice, and visiting me in the hospital and bringing me books (especially American Gods).  And all my friends, once again, that stuck around in the spring, visited me in the hospital in the summer, and have driven me to therapy in the fall and winter (in no particular order that would be both Josephs, Maggie, Mickey, Katie, Kit, Athena, Emma, Becky, Spencer, Hannah, Ella, Jacob, and everyone else in Aquifer Pod).  Plus my campus pastors for letting me crash in their office when I was dissociating, and for helping me with my confirmation.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled? It’s always our president, isn’t it?  Ajit Pai also goes on the list this year.  And the bastards that murdered a trans girl who lived in my county.  Fuck those assholes.
14. Where did most of your money go? I spent a good chunk of it at the end of the year on film festival entrance fees for the documentary I produced in the fall.  I also did buy way too many bath bombs.  Otherwise, probably food.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Seeing Tegan and Sara, David Sedaris, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  Also my birthday!  I was so excited I woke up at 5 in the morning.  Oh, and of course going to New York City!
16. What song will always remind you of 2017? "Feel It Still” -- Portugal. the Man “1-800-273-8255″ -- Logic ft. Alessia Cara and Khalid “Young, Dumb and Broke” -- Khalid “The Cure” -- Lady Gaga “Yet Another Dig” -- Bob the Drag Queen ft. Alaska Thunderfuck “Sissy That Walk” -- RuPaul “Green Light” -- Lorde “I Miss Those Days” -- Bleachers “Praying” -- Kesha “Humble” -- Kendrick Lamar
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? © richer or poorer? a.  DEFINITELY HAPPIER, DEFINITELY HAPPIER. b.  Like twenty pounds fatter.  I don’t want to talk about it. c.  The same, probably?
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Stayed present and mindful in all my activities.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Sleeping.  There was so much sleeping.  Also self-harming.  I’d have liked less self-harming.
20. How did you spend Christmas? On the 23rd, my grandma hosted the big family ordeal.  We ate food and opened presents, and played this gift card swap game that turned out to be pretty fun.  On Christmas Day, I woke up at 9.  We ate French toast, opened presents, watched Christmas specials and Stranger Things 2, and for dinner Dad made steak and potatoes.
21. Did you fall in love in 2016? Nope.
22. What was your favourite TV program? Bojack Horseman, Please Like Me, Stranger Things, Great British Baking Show, RuPaul’s Drag Race.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I’m a bit pissed off at the doctor at the hospital when I went in April who said I was seeking attention and didn’t think I was “bad” enough to be admitted.  Fuck him. But I don’t hate him, you know?  I don’t think I hate anyone.
24. What was the best book you read? Columbine by Dave Cullen.  I devoured it in three days.  Also Turtles All the Way Down by John Green.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery? The song “Material Girl” by Madonna!  Also music by drag queens (I’m a fan of Adore Delano, Trixie Mattel, and Bob the Drag Queen). 26. What did you want and get? A shit ton of lavender products, a new audio recorder, a graphic novel called The Fifth Beatle, that zine about mental health featuring a contribution from Sara Quin, fancy Oxford shoes.
27. What did you want and not get? My family to use my name and pronouns.  *whomp whomp*
28. What was your favourite film of this year? Time to consult the movie list.  New movies:  Moonlight, Get Out, Moana, Rogue One, Fences, Hidden Figures, Spider-Man:  Homecoming, Baby Driver.  Old movies:  The Blue Angel, M, The 400 Blows, Finding Vivian Maier, Matilda (no, I had not seen it before 2017), Paris Is Burning.  (Yes, some of the new movies I have on here were made in 2016.  That’s how my school’s movie theater works.)
29. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Friendship, music.
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017? Depression chic.  Lots of gray monochrome outfits.
31. What kept you sane? YouTube and Spotify, mood stabilizers, about thirty mental health professionals, my podmates.
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy most? The answer is always Tegan and Sara.  Janelle Monae and Annie Clark are in a battle for second and third.  I’m also really into that video of Tom Holland and Zendaya doing a lip sync battle.  Also, can I put RuPaul on here?
33. What political issue stirred you most? Hoo boy.  This was a very politically stirring year.  I feel like I was often pushed into a box of being only a spokesperson for trans issues, especially when the military ban came about.  I also got pissed about Russian influences on the election, the Roy Moore election, the events in Charlottesville, the attempt to repeal healthcare, Sean Spicer drama, and the Muslim ban.  (This I did not get off the top of my head, I consulted my Twitter.)
34. Who did you miss? For some reason I missed my grandparents a lot this year -- I think it’s because I’m starting to become more and more aware of their mortality, and any moment I’m away from them makes me anxious that they’re going to die.  Also, the death of Tom Petty really got to me.
35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017. I feel like I didn’t learn a whole lot.  I learned a lot about myself and how much I can handle, and I learned for sure who is in my corner.  I learned about the importance of faith, at least in my life.  And I learned firsthand through the process of giving my chapel talk how important sharing your story and being vulnerable is.  There’s zero good in keeping secrets and staying silent if you have something to say. Also, like, being alive is pretty OK I guess.
36. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. "I’ve been on the low, I’ve been taking my time / I feel like I’m out of my mind, it feel like my life ain’t mine” -- “1-800-273-8255,” Logic feat. Alessia Cara and Khalid “Come on motherfucker, you survived, you’ve gotta give yourself a break (hey!)” -- “Everybody Lost Somebody,” Bleachers
TL;DR:  If my life were a book, 2016 would be a chapter where a ton of shit happened to advance the plot while 2017 was the following chapter where it looked kinda stagnant plot-wise but the character’s internal life went from being an absolute mess to -- well, it’s still kind of a mess but he’s doing better at the end of the year than he was in the beginning or the middle.  I’m tempted to write it off as just another year, and in fact a pretty shitty one, but there have been good things too and overall I’d call it a very important year in my development.  I really can’t wait for 2018 though!
Here’s 2016′s.
Same thing for 2015…
And 2014.
Feel free to read others if you want.

Video
youtube
In “honor” of this video’s premiere at the VMAs, let me go open season on this petty bitchfest.
The lead single from sssssssssinger/ssssssssssssssongwriter/SSSSSSSSNEK joke Taylor Swift’s upcoming album Reputation. Let’s get this out of the way right now. All of this “beef” with Katy Perry over backup dancers is some misguided PR stunt to combat the media attention in pitting female artists against one another. Or at least it better be because if “Swish Swish” was indeed a diss track against Swift and “Look What You Made Me Do” is indeed the response song, they’re both petty, childish, inept excuses for women in the music industry.
Especially ol’ SNEK Wrangler herself, Swift if the best she can do in this petty pissing contest is an immature chorus of “Look what you made me do”. Yeah, apparently at some point she was considered a sharp lyricist. Time flies when you’re so full of shit, the toilet is suing you for copyright infringement.
“Petulant utterance no one above the age of 13 should use” at least in production terms is legitimate pop ground Swift is experimenting with; having her music sound as juvenile and as near psychotic for no reason as apparently, she is over a bunch of fucking backup dancers that you can replace is weirdly fitting or “on brand”. The first few lines read as “I don’t like your little games/Don’t like your tilted stage/The role you made me play; as the fool/no I don’t like you”. She actually sings “No, I don’t like you.” Being blunt is one thing but what the hell made her think this was acceptable as a lyric? Again, she has apparently been considered as a great lyricist among her peers cough, BULLSHIT, cough cough. One line in particular which had two major fandoms in Kanye stans and Little Monsters think this song [or this line] was about Kanye or Gaga was “I don’t like your tilted stage”. Leave it to human Twitter stan, Zachary Campbell to point out that Katy [who this song is about, release date of Reputation be damned] had tilted stagework for her Superbowl Halftime performance. Reexamine the lyric video for “I don’t like your little games” and “don’t” is a knight or a black horse or in context…a “Dark Horse”. What could potentially give away the fact that this was a PR stunt gone awry or at least should give it away is the lyric “The role you had me play; of the fool” with emphasis on “The role you had me play”. It’s more than likely that Taylor is trying and failing miserably at making a larger point as a woman in the music industry, specifically with women being pitted against each other in the music industry. Perhaps, she and Katy are in on the whole thing and this manufactured beef was supposed to teach us all that pitting artist against artist over backup dancers is pointless and that blah blah look at the lyrics for these two and see if they actually had the ability to make this a larger picture about women in the industry.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Swift continues to petulantly write out “I don’t like your perfect crime/How you laugh when you lie/you said the gun was mine; isn’t cool”. To Swift, all I ask is what perfect crime did Katy commit, if all this feuding boils down to is you looking petty over expendable tour personnel? If the worst she ever did was refer to you as “the Regina George in sheep’s clothing” on Twitter, why the hell have you actively come out taking verbal swipes at her years later in a song for your upcoming release which will more than likely be a mediocre at best album? The remaining lyrics here are probably vanilla, trite and vague jabs at the court of public opinion or something of the sort.
Then, the lyrical pyrite from Swift’s amygdala controlled pen gets worse. The pre-chorus reads “But I got smarter/I got harder/in the nick of time/Honey, I rose up from the dead/I do it all the time/I got a list of names/and yours is in red, underlined/I check it once/then I check it twice…ooh” cracks knuckles oh boy, is there a lot wrong with how these lyrics present themselves from someone more pissed at some other singer for using backup dancers instead of say; Kim Kartrashian or Kanye West for the Snapchat incident no matter how much of a two-faced bitch she ended up coming across. First, let’s take a look at “I got smarter/I got harder/in the nick of time” which only makes sense when you consider her putting her catalog of 6-9 actual good songs and dozens of other middling shit back on Spotify the day Katy Perry’s album Witness was released. Yeah, Swift was smarter in releasing “Look What You Made Me Do” the same day Katy’s video for Swish Swish was released. All these moves made “in the nick of time” were apparently to spite Katy again, for using backup dancers. Hey Taylor, want to spite Katy Perry of all people with minimal effort? Show her pictures of your Grammy awards and MOVE ON.
Second, there’s the line of “Honey, I rose up from the dead/I do it all the time”. The only death she went through was well after 1989 had wrapped up and Kim Kartrashian’s Snapchat videos of Kanye calling her about the “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex” line in “Famous” and her trying to weasel her way out of saying it’s OK to use but then be all pretentious Grammy speech that means nothing given the circumstances. Coming back from that, months later after relatively keeping her mouth shut about a lot of things isn’t that frequent for her. Alas, here she is acting like a fucking phoenix from the ashes of losing out on acclaim for her album and era all because of Snapchat videos. Keep in mind, she still won the Album of the Year Grammy for 1989 in spite of SNEKgate. Third, “I got a list of names/and yours is in red, underlined”; bitch, who the fuck are you fooling acting like you’re The Bride from Kill Bill about to kill Vernita Green or O’Ren Ishii? Have several seats. The other line not dissected still sucks but what’s next is the petulant as fuck chorus.
“Look What You Made Me Do/Look What You Made Me Do/Look What You Just Made Me Do, Look What You Just Made Me…ooh” is already a poorly written chorus but probably just sanitized enough for Swift because she couldn’t sell “you got me so fucked up” or anything that could be considered well written in this mood of hers. Then, there’s the second set of lyrics which are less directed at Perry and more sounding like vague-posting on Facebook [or “vague-booking”] about someone who did her wrong. Well, at least after the contradictory lyric “I don’t like your kingdom keys/they once belonged to me”. So, if they were your keys to your kingdom, how did she get them but you still hate them…oh wait, it’s a shit lyric so who cares. Then, the vague-booking lyrics kick in; “You asked me for a place to sleep/locked me out/and threw a feast”. Two words to solve this problem; SPARE KEYS. What proceeds to be sung next is all this “My karma’s gonna run over your dogma” bumper sticker bullshit which begs the question…you’re really choosing to be this petty to someone and it’s apparently not a publicity stunt? Over backup dancers? REALLY?!
The bridge for this song further drives this manufactured tiff over the edge when she histrionically sings “I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me/I’ll be the actress starring in your bad dreams” four times in a row [someone please tell me where the hell the alleged lyrical genius of Taylor Swift is if she can’t deliver lyrics better than a double negative and a high fallutin’ way of saying nightmare] before delivering a spoken word declaration so wannabe teenage angst ridden, Lorde should sue her for plagiarism. “I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ‘cause she’s dead.”
What else is that spoken word portion supposed to prove other than that aggression delivered by Taylor Swift reads as girl drama over nothing. Hell, the “oh, ‘cause she’s dead” bit sounds like her pulling that from her ass in the middle of recording it. “I need to explain why old Taylor isn’t coming to the phone…” “Taylor, we’re recording this” “…OH ‘CAUSE SHE’S DEAD.” “Fuck it, we’ll keep that in anyway.”
Overall, Taylor Swift’s latest stunt is a disgraceful, vindictive, bitchy effort which smears the reputation of every female songwriter past and present and upcoming if they’re dumb enough to listen to this and get songwriting inspiration. Then again, this is the same manic lunatic dumb enough to pull her catalog from Spotify when streaming was starting to count in music sales all in the name of “artist representation”. This is the same publicity craving stunt queen who once used her fans to improve upon her “can do no wrong” image in the name of Christmas present reaction videos on YouTube. This is the same person who takes after Lena Dunham’s interpretation of feminism which apparently means “anyone who doesn’t like what I do must clearly not be a feminist.”
The video itself? Empty gloss, self-deprecating humor that only worked on “Shake it Off” and Taylor acting like her videos have that many memorable looks. A 1/10 just like the song itself.

Writeblr Connects
@writeblrconnections See, I promised you I’d do this eventually :P
Are you interested in finding critique groups/partners? Always Are you interested in being a beta-reader? Can do when I’m free, depending on who wants me, book length, depth of wanted critique etc. Also, only if it’s reasonably well-polished: I’m not helping someone sort out their rough rough first draft. That’s the author’s job, not the beta’s! (Sorry, just had some bad past experiences with this one, though I do genuinely love betaing amazing stuff like @jamieanovels ‘ stuff). Are you open to being tagged in writing questionnaires/asks/games? Heck yeah Are you open to being messaged to talk about writing? Absolutely! Are you open to being tagged to participate in writing discussions? As long as I’m not being dragged into The Discourse™, sure thing Would you like to participate in Writeblr by Region? I can, but I live in the Uncool™ north of England (Yorkshire), so I’m not sure how many people would be interested Would you like to participate in the Translation Corner? Not sure I’ll be much help here, ngl.      If so, which languages would you like to be listed under? English, I guess, not sure that will be of any use though. I can handle highschool French, and know all the Latin basics plus enough to quote Plato at ya.
Short Profile: Preferred Nickname: Jess/Ginger Country/Region: UK/England Languages: English, a little French, enough Latin for Plato Preferred Writing Type: own novels, novel-length fic. I should branch out into short stories, but my brain doesn’t seem to understand the concept of ‘short’ :P Preferred Genre(s) to Write: fantasy, sci-fi,  Preferred Genre(s) to Read: fantasy, sci-fi, all that YA dystopia/post-apocolyptic nonsense, honestly anything with a little world building, enough suspension of disbelief to keep my brain occupied, and good characters. If you give me beautiful chains of fast plot twists that slot into place like puzzle pieces towards the end of the story, I might kiss you (or the book, if you’re not about that).
Favo(u)rite Books and Authors: ahahahaha, how long to you have? Books, by title (to save me typing out the authors here too): The Host (fight me), Three Dark Crowns, Palace of Treason, Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, The Lies of Locke Lamora, the Gospel of Loki, the whole Chaos Walking series, the Martian, Cinder, I Am Number Four (the first few in the series, but mainly the first one), the Clockwork Angel series, Fangirl...I could go on Authors: Leigh Bardugo (I’m dying to read her Grisha trilogy atm), Patrick Ness, Philip Pullman, Rick Riordan...my mind’s gone blank, ahhhhhh. Honorary mention to half the fic writers I’ve ever read, you guys very often surpass published novels and authors with your skills Favo(u)rite Music Genre(s)/Artists(s): FOB, Panic! At the Disco, Lorde, Lady Gaga, a bizarre scattering across genres from Queen to Green Day and MCR to LMFAO, Lindsey Stirling and Ellie Goulding Favo(u)rite Fandoms:    Movies: STAR WARS, the Man from U.N.C.L.E, X-Men and the Avengers, the DC crew when they chill with the Discourse™ (though God himself can pry Under the Red Hood from my cold, dead hands).    TV Shows: YOUNG JUSTICE, Teen Titans (when it’s good, it’s so good, but when it’s bad...), the Flash (mainly for the Rogues...okay, entirely for the Rogues), Gotham is a fab TV show but I haven’t actually looked at any fic (the tag is a good kind of crazy though)    Anime:   Anime: Attack on Titan, I guess? I’m no weeb ;P    Comics: Mainly related to animated show adaptations, so YJ, Batman, that kind of thing. I feel the need to reference Under the Red Hood again, because all the DC animated films are works of goddamn art, but that one is the greatest thing I will ever see with my own two damn eyes.     Video Games: Not really my thing.  Hobbies/interests other than writing: reading (haha, hilarious, real subversive), golf, badminton, passing my exams
Extended Profile: Personality Zodiac Sign: Taurus —Does it match your personality? Honestly I don’t even now what the characteristics are supposed to be. I prefer the ‘you’re a lemon tree’ kind of tumblr nonsense MBTI Type: N/A since I’m actually an alien —Does it match your personality well? Do I have a personality if I’ve not done this test? Some of y’all...would seem to think otherwise, #js Introvert or Extrovert? Extrovert except for when certain individuals are annoying as fuck
Writing Habits Number/Names of WIPs: One being written currently: The Iron Flower, first book in The Flowers of War series. Numerous fics hanging around including MISFITS, but I’m focusing on original stuff right now. Favo(u)rite book about writing: Oddly, I don’t particularly like books on how to write, I tend to better by picking up how other authors do things well. Palace of Treason is a lesson in how to write a sequel (I didn’t even realise it was a sequel!) and Three Dark Crowns is a masterpiece in writing the descent into cruelty and madness. Books like The Lies of Locke Lamora and Six of Crows also motivate me to improve my plot twists, and set up brilliant chains of events that all come crashing down together.  Planner, Pantser or Plantser? Compared to some people, I don’t think anyone else is a planner. I’m trying my own form of planning for The Iron Flower, and so far it’s going brilliantly. It involved writing out the entire plot in scene form, and then jumping in with no prior worldbuilding or character stuff, which is letting me develop those aspects naturally without getting stuck on where to take the plot next. I think this is a method I might stick with! Favo(u)rite Outlining Method: as above, whoopsie! Do you write on a schedule or sporadically? 500 words a day for the whole of my current project, and because that’s reasonably easy to hit, it gets me writing while also letting me beat my target almost every day, which is a lovely buzz! Any creativity rituals that you use: I sit on the same sofa with my crappy old laptop, I guess. Does that count?

15 Things You Didn't Know About "13 Reasons Why" Star Katherine Langford (from Seventeen Magazine) [04\14\2017]
1. She's from Perth, Australia. Yep, that natural-sounding American accent is just for 13 Reasons Why. Here's how she sounds when she's not playing Hannah Baker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ps47vMSduA 2. She's athletic. Katherine was a nationally-ranked swimmer in high school.
3. Acting wasn't always her dream job. She thought she wanted a career in medicine, or if not that, politics. Musical theater was her third choice, she told EW.
4. Lady Gaga inspired her to get into the arts. At 16, Katherine saw Lady Gaga in concert. "It was like a spiritual experience," she told EW, "I was so moved by her performance that I went home and that week I taught myself how to play piano." During her final year of high school, she became more interested in music and acting, and chose to pursue acting full-time after high school.
5. Her resume is impressive. She studied at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art and the Principal Academy of Performing Arts in Perth.
6. She's had roles in several plays. Including Evita and Godspell.
7. 13 Reasons Why is her first TV series. Actually, it's her first major acting credit of any kind.
8. She landed the role after auditioning via Skype. The casting director didn't meet her in person before choosing her to play Hannah.
9. She had just 10 days to get an O-1 visa. In just a week and a half, Katherine discovered she landed the role of a lifetime, had to pack up her life in Australia, get a visa (no easy feat!), and move to California to start working. Whoa.
10. She researched Hannah's character carefully. To prep for the scene in which Bryce sexually assaults Hannah in a hot tub, she spoke to a psychiatrist to understand what her character might be thinking and feeling in the moment.
11. She and Dylan Minnette (Clay Baker) are great friends IRL. "Every time I got on set — playing Hannah Baker — it's kind of like going through six months of bullying," she said. "But every single scene I had with Dylan, it would put a smile on my face. He would always be there to kind of lighten the day."
11. She has two movies in the works. The Misguided, an Australian flick about a young man who has to betray his girlfriend to save his brother's life, debuts later this year. In 2018, she acts opposite Jennifer Garner in Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, about a gay teen who comes out to his classmates.
12. Selena Gomez convinced her to make her Instagram public. "It was a bit of a big decision for me actually, because I wanted to be an actor purely for the acting work," Katherine said. "I have never been attracted to increasing my popularity or hireability by being on Instagram." But when Selena suggested that she could connect to fans who relate to 13 Reasons Why on social media, she decided to go public.
13. She loved working with Selena Gomez. "When I met her, it was the last day of set and she had just flown out from the AMAs, where she did that incredible speech and she said something about, 'The people that know me, what they know about me is that I care about people,'" she recalled to THR. "And that sums up Selena in a very truthful way. You can tell this story means a lot to Selena, and it means a lot to her fans. Even though Selena is Selena Gomez and ridiculously busy, Mandy and Selena were always there for us. They sent us emails and checked up on us and made sure we were OK. I give them so much praise for holding onto this story until they were absolutely happy with how it was going to be told. With Netflix, we were able to tell this story in a way it needed to be told."
13. She's a Netflix junkie. Filming 13 Reasons Why was heavy work, so to unwind, she'd relax in front of a feel-good comedy. "I watched a lot of The Office," she said.
14. She loves historical fiction. "Anything written in the French Revolution, that kind of era, is so poignant," she told Marie Claire. "I got into history when I was 11 years old, and it all started with the Titanic. I'd read books in the library about it. Of course I've seen the movie, too — I don't think I've ever cried that much."
15. Her childhood crush was Orlando Bloom as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings. Tbh, same.
