i saw your post about the final zoom out shot at the end of ds9 when i was only like halfway through the show and just kinda. absorbed it and didn't react but then when i finished the show for the first time and it happened i just started bawling uncontrollably. like i was truly inconsolable for almost an hour and every time i think of that shot i cry a little bit

oh man this ask takes me right back 🥲 it really is like that. i dont even really know how to put it into words but something about watching the station—our temporary home, our friend even—disappear into the vastness of space, knowing the show is over and we’ll never get to see it again, or be there again….. knowing that we’re leaving it all behind after such an incredible story and adventure….. it is a BRUTAL tear-jerker for real. literally no other star trek show ending is like it, and i think thats maybe because no other star trek show IS like it. its just an absolutely beautiful final shot that the show 100% earned and god if it doesnt get me every single time

#as much as we can make fun of the show for its goofier moments im not embarrassed to simultaneously regard it with like.#unadulterated reverence. for the way its storytelling and characters were able to make me feel #it is an absolutely singular show and that ending shot just……#something about it just makes you really recognise that.#and no amount of begging the station to come back is going to stop the camera from panning out and the story from ending #like i dont cry easily at media in general but man 🐴#that shot chokes me up so fast #im never sitting there smiling going “bye ds9! thanks for a great show!” im always fucking wrecked and #i think thats just a testament to the way ds9 was able to engage so many of us and earn our emotional attachment to it #in a way no other star trek series really could. for me anyway #ask #op #sorry for going on a tangent anon i hope at least some of this poetic waxing is comprehensible #but yeah to anyone whos seen that post of mine but hasnt finished ds9 yet. you wont know until you know #and then by god will you know.
