Thank you this fandom needs more clarification of shipping. I don’t like edizzy bc what you described doesn’t appeal to me, but I can see the basic “enemies to lovers” hate sex vibes of stizzy easily. IN FIC. i used to read fic of these ships and talk about them but I backed away when I realized how many other people not only wanted it to be canon but convinced themselves it would be and started harassing people about it. I don’t want it canon! Izzy needs to stay far the fuck away in canon. Any Izzy ship as endgame would have been awful. At this point I’m afraid that people like us who like certain boilerplate fic dynamics are a minority among angry truthers. The truthers behavior ruined these fic ships for me bc they made me so angry I stopped talking to or trusting other Izzy fans unless I knew them well enough to know they didn’t believe he was a canon love interest. It ruined the enjoyment of toxic ship fics. I read other fandoms now for that bc there is so much racism against Ed and anger against gentle beard shippers in a fandom for a romance about gentle beard. Like get over it canyon it’s not canon it was never going to be canon I never wanted it to be canon and truthers harassed people out of the fandom and created a hostile environment for everyone else even those of us who also like Izzy fics. I went back and looked to see what was new and it’s all just full of Ed slander, edizzy turned into poor abused woobie and big evil brown man (that’s racist) and stizzy turned into stede and Izzy comforting each other when Ed is mean. Where are the fics of these pairings where Izzy is the bad guy? Making Izzy into a white man woobie ruined Izzy fandom. It’s racist and it’s boring. I would be overjoyed if other Izzy shippers made a distinction between fics they like and what they wanted in canon but the canyon killed the potential for self aware ofmd villain fucking and became assholes devoted to punishing fans of canon for enjoying canon. Id have stopped watching the show if steddyhands edizzy or stizzy had been canon, but I’d have stayed in the Izzy fandom if it hadn’t turned into what it is. You’re right, toe eating is sex and “Izzy did nothing wrong” makes fic and meta boring. Izzy is fun bc the other characters hate him. I kind of hate him and I love the guy. It feels like most Izzy fans just switched his personality/backstory with Ed’s and just went off on a flight of fancy about it. Let Ed be Ed. Let Izzy be Izzy. And for gods sake let canon be canon. Canyon needs to understand the difference between porn and and the source material bc their version of izzy ruined enjoyment of BOTH.

It's interesting to me when people who dislike stizzy take particular issue with the aspect of Izzy teaching Stede practical skills - and then ship Ed and Stede. A big part of the edstede dynamic in s1 was that Ed and Stede agree to teach one another, and we all understand why it's cute for them to flirt during a practice duel, but when Stede and Izzy do the same thing it's... bad?

For me when that dynamic was dropped and picked up by stizzy, I ended up getting more into stizzy. "Two different people find they have a lot to learn from each other" is a pretty basic recipe for a relationship to develop, and if you get why it's appealing in one ship, surely you can get why it's appealing in another.

One of the things that does confuse me about a lot of the Steddy Hands content is that it centers Izzy. Both like physically by putting him between Ed and Stede in a lot of the art and emotionally, by like making Izzy's enjoyment or desire the center of attention in an art or fan work. This wouldn't strike me as odd if it was just some of the fan work but it's practically all of it. It doesn't make sense to me, because both Izzy and Stede in canon are simping hard for Ed and Izzy and Stede getting along well enough to date or have sex is frankly Ed's fantasy if it's anyone's (at least prior to episode 7 Ed just wants Izzy and Stede to get along well enough to not kill each other or try to make him do it). If you're gonna center someone's feelings it should be Ed's because his are the most conducive to Steddy Hands working. If you're gonna put someone in the middle it should be Ed because of how down horrendous for him the other two parties are in the source material, right? It is confusing to me.
