helluva boss’ humor really trips me up sometimes

(long post like really long post i go off)

Because sometimes it plays with hell's society and makes funny jokes like the HR joke in Spring Broken. One thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is when it makes jokes or points fun at prudes in the universe. Which btw I don’t think this bad or anything it’s just something that pulled me personally out of the show. It’s still funny at the end of the day but!

Like the normalcy of death, swearing, sex, innuendos and all that. like jokes that would make you or me pause for a second wouldn’t be such a deal to them and vice versa is funny. Honestly the M&M’s being in a loving relationship in hell as a joke is funny

But the thing that trips me up is the way some demons in universe react to the jokes doesn’t make any since. I understand their reaction is a joke, but why did they have that reaction anyway? for example

In the LooLoo Land episode a good joke was when Octavia said she was going to be sick then Moxxie panics going through different medications and pulls out a bunch of syringes full of morphine just to casually throw them into a baby stroller when Octavia says she wasn’t really sick. Hilarious and it shows the human and demon side of moxxie love it. Although in the same episode Blizto says he isn't a day hooker and the lady walking by judges him and he calls her a prude. Funny yes! But why does she care like girl he has a whole gun and that’s what you choose to be concerned about? Ok. I understand her being shocked is the joke but why is she? In a place where being a hooker is possibly the most normal thing to them as being lawyer is to you or me. Why such a strong reaction?

Even the newest Mammon ep in Fizz’s “two weeks' notice or whatever it's called” song when he say “spending life bent over with your fist in my ‘A’” and the crowed is like shocked or put off by it like sure maybe they just weren't expecting it but he literally says bent over and even shakes his little imp ass at them while setting up the joke. It could have also been that they were surprised he censored himself. I don’t know, do you know?

Also, I must say hell born demons don’t have to be always ok with sex jokes. A little verity never hurts anybody. just Like Moxxie not very violent or having his limits is fine and also Striker being uncomfortable or not liking that everyone makes sex jokes at his expense is kind of funny it's of the same caliber of funny that the M&M’s gimmick has. I also think he doesn’t like the sex jokes because he doesn’t have control of the situation (or Stolas, Moxxie, and Fizz just aren't his type who knows lol) he was more than ready to diddle Biltzo’s holes if it meant he’d join Striker. Also, he didn’t seem to mind the other imps fawning over him even if he did kick that one girl in the face. Kind of like a you can look but don’t touch kind of thing. He likes or deals with the jokes until he can't control the situation and it's like come one dude, I'm trying to kill you cower before me plz :( you feel me? Like that makes since because it can be explained away with, their character but seeing as it’s not a social norm so when others who we don’t know and are supposed to show the status quo do it, it’s a little bit weird you know?

This also applies to Helluva Boss in general not just jokes. It’s honestly hard to tell what's allowed in hell and what isn't sometimes even for jokes because you know how a lot of people were weirded out at the kid being at the clown pageant and everyone is like “dude its hell they don’t have the same type of morals as we do” but also have people in the show react to sex or taboo stuff like it's weird you know? Like yes, I expect hypocrisy in the world of hell like a whole “rules for thee but for me” kind of thing. It is hard to stay true to that when the rules aren’t enforced? because one second, you’ll have Loona and Blizto making fun of Moxxie for being “fat”, but you also want me to care when Mammon calls Fizz fat. I'm supposed to take Loona beating up Blizto as a joke but once Stella raises a hand to Stolas, I'm supposed to be like oh no abuse!

Speaking of abuse. Mammon is just Blitzo cranked up to eleven. They are practically the same character given what the show tells us. What Blitzo does to Moxxie is the same thing Mammon does to fizz only cranked up to nine. Mammon says things that make Fizz worry I.e. “ready to reclaim your win another year... I saw your competition and it's pretty stiff, right? You are going to have try extra hard” remember in “The Harvest Moon Festival” ep where Blizto says “now just remember your rep with the in laws is on the line here so, no pressure at all you totally will not make an ass of yourself in front of everyone important in your life” he totally did that on purpose. How about when Mammon calls Fizz a “a bit chungo”? blitzo in seeing stars “you know it wouldn’t kill ya to put a salad in your body every now and then” and he says it meaner. He even encourages Loona to also call moxxie fat so while it’s still Loona doing it Blizto not telling her to chill out or something and there by condoning it, but he has the nerve to clutch his stupid little pearls (also blitzo isn't Wareing his mom little necklace thing in ep) when Mammon does the same thing.

The fuck is that face for you slimy little bitch?

Mammon says sexually charged stuff to Fizz that is very obviously making him uncomfortable but disregards it like its nothing? “The more they’ll want a piece of you they can home and fuck! Don’t you want that Fizzy? to be fucked?” Then Fizz said no, and he disregarded it. Blizto in Murder Family, Harvest Moon, Truth seekers, Ex's and Ohs when he makes a big deal about someone having sex with both Moxxie and Millie and then making a big deal at the fact that he, Moxxie and Millie have had sex with the same person also maybe Ozzie's when he says he watches the M&M get it on but it's hard to gaze if Moxxie’s reaction was surprise, disgust or both. Mammon calls Fizz a “a stupid little [HONK]” Blizto calls Moxxie “a fucking disgrace” in Unhappy Campers but to be fair I make it an active effort to forget that ep is canon so. Mammon puts Fizz in a situation he can't handle, which leads to a panic attack. Blizo in the first ep Murder Family where Moxxie doesn’t want to kill Martha because he doesn’t want to kill a mother and ruin a family and is openly hesitant and uncomfortable about it causing him to have a small panic and mess up the mission at first. Mammon tells fizz to get his shit together with the underlying threat of firing, terminating, or worse. Murder family Blitzo says “But if you ever pull a stunt like this again, I will fuck you and your wife”. Both BLizto and Mammon treat Fizz and Moxxie all buddy buddy when they do stuff, they want but when they don’t comply or might not do something they don’t like they get mean or aggressive. They only main differences is that Moxxie can talk back to Blizto in a way and fizz can't. Also, Fizz actually quits, and escapes his horrible boss.

I know that the pilot isn't cannon but it’s the blueprint of the characters and Blizto being abusive to moxxie sexually and verbally being a constant throughout the pilot and the canonized show is just... icky

The show will tell me that imps and hellhounds are at the bottom of society but also have them stand up to the deadly sins like it no big deal. Loona tried to fight Beelzebub, Crimson tried to bribe and blackmail Asmodeus, Fizz stands up Mammon (as he should but Mammon could have literally tuned him into a smoothie) like the deadly sins are the next things to gods and these low-level nobodies are trying to square up. Not only does it make the deadly sins look like total wusses, but it also makes hellhounds and imps look more powerful than they are. Striker saying royals' step all over imps and treat them horribly and other than stella literally throwing Pringles and referring to him as “this one”

but Stolas literally uses Pringles as like a phone stand in Seeing Stars so....

The only ones who we’ve seem treat the imps like that on a regular basis are other non-royal hell born demons like the twins in Mammons ep. The lady and her kid in the doctor's office in western energy, the hellhound bodyguards in The Circus and even other imps like how Millies family treat Moxxie because he’s traditionally strong, or how striker thinks that he and blizto are far better then they’re own kind. Sure, the imps are butlers, purse accessories, and work on farms to feed the other rings. Other than the farm thing other demons do too from what we’ve seen. Also, from what we have seen, the royals are so detached from imps it seems like Strikers’ biggest problem is other demons themselves. The only royal we see talk down to imps is Stolas. Stella, Andrealphus, Paimon, never says much about them or even addresses them in any kind of way that’s outright negative, it’s more or less just plain indifference. I mean even the 7 deadly sins (that we’ve met so far) don’t say anything about imps in a derogatory way mammon doesn’t, Bee calls Blitzo “Imp boy” but not in a mean way, and Asmodeus call Moxxie “little imp” which seems more teasing than mean.

Ok look if I'm to take the hell hierarchy seriously then please play by your rules. I-ok so like are the sins a force to be reckoned with or not? Because they just seem like regular demons but bigger. You're telling me the second blizto get nabbed by the DORK agents Stolas is out here cracking necks and summoning himself in blood to save him

But nothing was done to save fizz?

“It was hostage situation” ok and? Asmodeus is a sin he could have pulled a Stolas and posseted one of Crimsons goons and shot or incomposite striker and crimson. You have almost infante power and you can't save your boyfriend and work colleague? And if demons can't be possessed then send Stolas in exchange for the crystal. Crimson doesn’t know about Stolas, and it would surprise him stolas can turn into his big bird form in hell and did in Seeing Stars. ALSO why is everyone just standing up to and trying to pick fights with the Sins? Like guys I get it I really do but please realistically you're going to get smooshed like bug

I'm constantly being told that Stolas and Blitzo can't be together while Beelzebub and Asmodeus can be with Vortex and Fizz. With no real in show reason as to why? You can address its hypocrisy all you want but you still never gave a reason as to why one is ok and other isn't. Stolas is Royality and can't date outside his rank? And the 7 deadly sins are of a different rank than him so it's different. How so? Why does Asmodeus need it to keep him and fizz a secret? if a god was dating a regular person, what could you possibly do about it? Also, if Asmodeus needs to keep his relationship a secret, then why doesn’t Beelzebub? If it because Beelzebub’s relationship corresponds to her sin how so? How is dating someone not of your rank gluttonous or indulgent? Unless Bee is a serial dater, and I don’t think she is how so? Also, Asmodeus dating Fizz does correspond to his sin he’s the over seer of lust and lust doesn’t stop at rank or class. If them being romantic is the problem, then they could lie and tell everyone that him and fizz are just fuck buddies or they're in an open relationship where they are ok with each other sleeping around but they don’t do it. They’re already business partners; it wouldn’t be a stretch if the literal ruler of lust would want to sleep with someone regardless of their rank and whether or not they work for them. Plus, they do openly say they are fucking each other while Ozzie's workers are near so them having sex isn't the problem.

Ok so like ya’ll know the live action Grinch movie? And you know that one part where the grinch is the holiday chair mister and the who's are giving him a bunch of food even after he's full and his face is full of food, but they keep shoving more in his mouth? Yeah, that is what watching helluva boss is like sometimes you know?

this show is ride and then some lol granted this doesn’t really make or break the show for me honestly, it's just that the more the show tells me one thing it’ll go through hell (heh) to make it, so it doesn’t matter anymore, and it only brings up more questions. Like if something isn't allowed then make it so don’t just tell me oh that’s not allowed but is but it’s a problem but I'm not going to tell you why or what the problem is just trust me look at the cute couples don’t look anywhere else don’t worry about it

I know you’re probably asking yo why are you questioning it I'm just a confused fan and I want the show I like to make since is that such a tall order?

Okay so like it only took one person to ask but here's My Take on the Demon Forms- Now I don't mind the original forms HOWEVER some of them don't scare me or scream demonic to me.

I mean Mammon looks like a Bondage Slave Leviathan looks like a Twitch Streamer Satan's a Damn Clown Beel looks like a Biker and Belphegor looks like that creepy roommate who doesn't know how to dress themselves and only leaves their room once on a blue moon. It's just not it for me so here's my take.

Now I actually really liked Lucifer's and Asmo's Demon form but I didn't want to exclude them so see this as an alternative form/outfit if you will.

Anyways let's get into it:

Lucifer: Now Lucifer's Demon form I wasn't sure what to do with- Like I said I already really liked the design so I tried to mix that then took inspiration from "Advisors" attire namely Jafar from Aladdin and I wanted to make him look like a Pampered Regal- A Beloved Pet to the Demon Prince and looking the most humanoid since Lucifer's sin is far more proper than something like Gluttony or Wrath- Pride is powerful Pride is refined and Pride gets its victims when the victims assume they're just talking to a distinguished gentleman and forget theyre dealing with an ancient creature. Anyways Lucifers ugliness/age shows in this form and since he's the eldest he stays in his humanoid form since he's usually just sending the others to do his dirty laundry instead of going to attack directly. Pride is above chasing its prey after all it doesn't hunt it claims- and Lucifer doesn't mind sending his brothers to retrieve what he's claimed as his.

Mammon: Now I really loved working on Mammon's and my biggest thing was he looked like a bondage slave- Showing his titties and everything so what I did for him is I referred to some of my favorite video games designs such as Dragon Age and Oblivion and from it I was able to come up with this design. Now Greed is an interesting sin because regardless it will take and take and take even when there's nothing left to give or take again- So for Mammon's design I made him have scars on parts of his wings and form where he's literally mutilated himself to sell for Grimm- Greed is unending after all and unlike Pride it doesn't mind getting its hands dirty for what it wants- Mammon strikes me as the type to bedazzle so his Demon form has studs and shinies always added on while the glow from his limbs represents how he could promise wealth to many while wanting to take it as well. The taking doesn't stop at one thing- Better run before his Greed for MC gets the better of his judgement

Leviathan: Now Leviathan... Ahh I really love him but I struggled with his design so what I did was I tried to imagine the 7 Brothers in a royal court; If Lucifer is the Advisor/Chancellor then Leviathan is the soldier/admiral and so I made his design more warrior oriented as well as aquatic given his tendencies so this combined into Leviathan's attire and as Envy I imagine he's fully water breathing so walking on land is difficult because he's not Hunting in his proper environment (And this also could be due to Envy in of itself being suffocating) but if he's on land he's ready to hunt- Envy isn't refined like Pride or gritty like Greed Envy is slithering- Envy is slippery- And Envy will do anything within its power to get what it wants with the pain edging it into working faster to its goal- If Envy is Hunting you it won't be long before it gets you because unlike the others it's running on a timer and either hatred or desire- This makes for an unrelenting predator who once its got its sights on you it's impossible to lose it

Satan: Now Satan was another design I really enjoyed doing and when doing it I KNEW it was going to be the opposite of Lucifer; If Pride is proper and humanoid then Wrath is wild and animalistic and Wrath is an ugly thing- So I took inspiration from the Abominations and Red Lyrium creatures from Dragon Age but I also mentioned that I believe Satan is nuclear/radioactive and that's because his Wrath is so intense that it literally grows out of him as pure essence and anything that touches it either loses its mind from the anger or literally melts from the intensity. In his Demon form Satan is just as unrelenting as Leviathan; his form is painful as well because Wrath is insatiable- Wrath is a fire that burns and engulfs everything and in this form Satan NEEDS to hurt and kill- His Wrath is intense and I should mention in this form Satan's running on all fours using his horn (which grows the more intense his Wrath is) to ram into people and hunts like an animal. Wrath is wild in its rawest form and like Envy its unrelenting especially since Wrath likes to catch and release- Hunt kill and find something else to destroy and as such if Wrath is targeting you good luck getting it off your back because it won't stop until it gets what it wants or destroys what incurred this Wrath too

Asmodeus: Now I really liked Asmo's design so this was hard but I recall once reading a headcanon that Asmo would jealously take the faces of those he perceived as beautiful and given my take is he's insanely ugly I imagined Asmo works as a face stealer consistently wearing Masks and faces to lure people in. Aside from that Asmodeus was another more humanoid Demon and it sort of relates to Lust translating to desire and people usually desire forms that seem familiar or humanoid- Lust in of itself thrives on others so it must allure but it can also be depraved and animalistic- When you're chasing a high you'll do or say anything for pleasure and as such I wanted Asmos form the represent both the desire of others but the depravity that lust encourages. What's interesting is Lust seems to follow after Envy and Pride in presentability and its focus on claiming what it wants but on a deeper level is Gluttony and Greed in its insatiability and willingness to do anything to chase that high its a mixture of desire it likes to pretend is love

Beelzebub: Now Beels design I liked well enough so when doing his I KNEW I was going to make it monstrous and I have good reason to; Since Beel himself is a terrifying figure despite how nice he is to us now. What we sometimes forget is Beel is the Avatar of Gluttony- Gluttony is monstrous- It combines Wrath's animalistic Tenacity Envy's relentlessness and Greed's wants and all together that makes a horrific combo of desire to engulf but never be full. Beel himself has stated he wanted to eat MC (and not in the fun way he literally would have "cannibalized" MC had they been anyone else) and has eaten and torn apart many for his hunger so his form was made to reflect his strength as the guardian to Lucifer and his animalistic side as he would probably eat anything raw or cooked to satiate his hunger. Which is another thing to note; While Lucifer looks humanoid I have heard of accounts where Beelzebub was the only figure he trusted so as such Beel is sort of Lucifer's attack dog since if Lucifer wants him to retrieve him a victim Beel would do it in a heartbeat and probably sit and wait for Lucifer's permission to have a bite. Gluttony is depraved its unending its monstrous and its horrific and Beels design serves as a reminder which brother would probably go the most unhinged when in this form.

Belphegor: So there's this strange pattern I've noticed wherein when it comes to Belphegor he ends up having a "Mythical Princess" feel to him and I like to supplement that despite disliking him. Aside from that Sloth is on a different field entirely than the other sins; Similar to Pride its humanoid but unlike Pride it doesn't aim to beguile- instead it's out of apathy- Sloth doesn't care- It doesn't crave like Greed Gluttony and Lust it doesn't hunt like Envy and Wrath and it doesn't plot like Pride- Sloth doesn't care about all that... What it cares about is enrapturing; it's far too easy to just provide a nudge to people to fall in its direction it doesn't need to bribe or intimidate its way in, it just is. Sloth comes in a form that is simple its animalistic legs remind you of its inhuman nature but its face and eyes lull you into complacency. Sloth doesn't need to try and that's what makes it while the weakest the most underhanded sin to watch out for.

Okay but there we go that's my take if you want to add anything more to it feel free to but I think I'm done with designs for now ( LOL but I may be back next week you'll never know haha xD )

Could you make a headcanon about the brothers reacting to their mc getting bullied at human school bc of clothing style and bc mc is a bit of a nerd?

The clothes I wear look prob pretty formal (sweater with collar) and people comment on it. I'm also the silent one of the class and I'm a bit of a nerd. I don't like reading tho 😅

True story: in grade 8 a dumbass thought I was a robot because I had the highest grade in all my classes and apparently "no human could naturally be that smart" so obviously I mustve been a robot 🙄

THE BROTHERS reacting to MC being bullied because of clothes/nerd tendencies

Lucifer:

And they say demons are cruel. Do they not have anything better to do than comment on someone’s clothing style or *checks notes* ability to learn? It confuses him more than anything but it also just annoys him. Humans really are something else and if you don’t think Lucifer will personally be there for a surprise visit in the middle of your math class, think again, because all of a sudden there’s a very tall, very annoyed, very scary looking man with his arms crossed in the middle of your classroom.

“Now, let’s make this easy, shall we? Which one of you pathetic excuses is so much as thinking bad about MC?”

Mammon:

The pain he felt when you had to return to the human world was unreal and he made it a point to always text you and annoy you and make you tell him about your day. He just needed to know you’re okay, okay? It’s hard for him to lose someone and especially after you guys had become so close. Hearing you get bullied just makes everything more obvious to him: you need to come back. So no, he doesn’t take care of the bullies per se, but he does show up and kidnap you and if your teacher says anything? Well…

“Listen up ya old hag! My MC is getting bullied and there ain’t nothin’ you doin’ about that, so I will!”

Leviathan:

God, he relates to this way too much. People at RAD don’t necessarily like him either and both they and him forget that he’s literally one of the seven rulers of hell and he could just… obliterate them. Anyway! He usually keeps to himself and then just… moves on? He tries not to mind them much, but when it comes to you? Oh he’s ready to fight. Have you ever seen him get mad? Like, really mad? No? Well you’re about to. He shows up in his demon form and everything, grabbing your hand, and although he’s blushing, he successfully drags you out and back home, but not before summoning Lotan.

“Come MC. Lotan will keep them busy.”

Satan:

Excuse you? What do you mean they get onto you for clothes and being nerdy? Now, he can admit that your choice of clothes is… questionable sometimes, but as Mr. one-sleeve, he isn’t going to judge. But nerdiness?! Have they never heard of knowledge? Obviously not, since their pea sized brain doesn’t even reach as far as the window. He’s there, don’t worry. Probably makes it a point to show up during your science class and blow a few people err… I mean things up.

“Listen here you lowlives. The next person that gets upset over someone being ‘nerdy’ is going up against me, and I promise, your thought process won’t be as quick as my reflexes.”

Asmodeus:

Well, honey, we DO need to talk about your clothing style. In all honesty, he will probably try to distract you from it more than actually trying to fight against everything they say. He’s a lover, not a fighter, so don’t expect too much. He does, however, not like the bullying and he thinks your nerdiness is adorable! How dare they!

“Hello my little lovelies…. I heard we have a problem with bullying. Well sit on back while Asmo here tells you a little story about the beauty and the very many beasts.”

Beelzebub:

His big brotherTM instincts are activated and he’s ready to throw some hands. Let him catch someone actually talking smack while he’s there because he will straight up eat them and no, that’s not a threat. That’s a promise. Might want to call Belphie up too just so he can hold Beel back although spoiler: he won’t. Anyway, Beel makes sure that you tell him everything, including the school’s address, and babe, he’s there before you can blink, throwing you over his shoulder to go home.

“We’re done here. Say one more thing and I will eat you all.”

Belphegor:

FINALLY his list of why he hates humans can be added onto! In all seriousness though, this just pisses him off. Like, yeah he killed you, but he never mocked your character and he holds himself to that. Who cares if you’re a nerd? Or dressed like a clown/emo/sunflower fairy/whatever? School isn’t a fashion contest for goodness sakes, even he knows that. Much like Levi, he would actually pull up in his demon form and he WOULD bring Beel along so he can eat a few unimportant students.

“So… who wants to repeat what they said about MC?”
