Do we pour gasoline on the closet by having speculative or celebratory Jikook blogs that imply, in a thousand ways, visual and written, that they might be in love? By shining a light on the possibility of their romance and, in some cases, presenting instances of behavior and observations that support our suspicians, are we violating their privacy?
Are we burning the closet?
Hello! Short answer - I guess, it depends on the particular person/blog/situation/etc. :)
Long answer
Firstly, the post you refer to was not meant to be 100% related to KM or any other particular individual. And it’s not me chickening out now, that was literally written in the disclaimer - “my opinion about the general issue”. So I didn’t expect/plan that all sentences there would be applicable to them precisely.
But okay, lets talk about Jikook particularly.
No, I don’t think that by “presenting instances of behavior and observations that support our suspicions” or writing speculative/celebratory posts we are violating their privacy. Most of the times. But here is the thing, everything depends on the particular situation and context.
What do people usually analyze? Run, BV, ITS or any other show like this, twitter posts, selfies, interviews, songs or covers, any other art (like JK’s GCF), etc. What these have in common? They were purposefully posted online or in the press. I hardly imagine any of the members posting his selfie on Twt and being like “I hope everybody would just ignore me and nobody would like or retweet this pic 😑” It is kinda expected that everything they give us would be scrutinized.
Furthermore, I don’t think that the guys are stupid either. So when JM says stuff like “I like to wake up and see JK”, “I like to get scolded by JK”, “I was with JK at 4 am”, I bet he knows exactly how it looks like and what some people will ultimately think. Same for JK. He knew exactly how GCFt looked like. But look, KM continue to do wtf they do. [I am even certain that all of them are perfectly aware of the shipping culture and all of its downfalls.]
So for me analyzing the given content is completely fine (and fun). And maybe I’m a terrible horrible human being with the shitty sense of humour (actually sounds legitimate), but even the jokes about someone being gay I don’t perceive as something horrendous. I may even giggle at them (told ya, horrible). But in my personal bubble the word “gay” is not an insult, so... However, even here there is a line between a couple of innocent non-insulting jokes, and imposing some kind of a pattern into someone. (e.g. look at how TKKs and some antis ended up treating JM and his behaviour - “slut”, “attention whore”, “he just sleeps with his CEO/manager/choreographer/etc to get best lines/position in a dance formation/etc. I saw with my own eyes how some people claimed that BTS received the Grammy nomination just because Jimin had sex with the head of the Grammy committee. Such shit is disturbing and disgusting.)
What is also not okay in my humble opinion? Aggressively shoving all of these into someone’s face, especially if this someone is BTS. I remember the last TK’s vlive, with the comment section which was hell. People went completely overboard. The same applies to digging into information, which was not meant to be shared/posted. Mostly I mean stalking in real life trying to gain personal info. I really hope, that since people got the info about new JK’s house whereabouts, it won’t end up having an horde of crazy fans sneaking near his fence.
