what do you mean johan wasn't in the driver pool? nico just decided he wanted him and called him until he gave in?

pretty much, yeah. when extreme e started, there was a driver pool of drivers who wanted to participate in the series. i'm 90% sure this is so the team owners/bosses would have female drivers to choose from because lbr most of them couldn't name a woman if they tried let alone a female driver.

but nico did his research and decided that for a off-road series with what was likely to be a lot of contact he wanted rallycross and off-road specialists. johan kristoffersson is a rallycross goat. he is to rallycross what schumacher is to f1. there have been 10 fia rallycross world championships so far and johan has won 6 of them. he has 41 wins. the next most successful rallycross driver is timmy hansen who has 13 wins. in 2018 he won 11/12 races. there isn't a single other rallycross driver in the world who can compare to him.

nico saw that and decided that johan was who he wanted as a driver. johan turned him down initially, but nico called again, they spoke for over an hour and johan agreed to drive for him.

rxr won the first extreme e race, the first extreme e championship, and the most recent extreme e championship. johan is now the only double extreme e championship, so i think the whole thing worked out well for everyone involved
