Okay to the “Sharpay is the victim” crowd: if she’s so hard working and great at theatre she shouldn’t have felt threatened by Troy and Gabriella! She should have played it fair and trusted her own skills, not used underhanded tactics to sabotage them. If she can't handle some competition, she's not gonna have a great time pursuing theatre in the future.

And what's with the weird revisionism with Sharpay being a hardworking girlboss while Troy and Gabriella get everything handed to them and don't take theatre seriously? Like are we watching the same movie? They both genuinely wanted to perform, and have been rehearsing a lot with Kelsi - so much so that their friend groups got pissed off about it. I get it, Sharpay is iconic but you don't have to paint her as the real hero just so you can feel morally justified in liking her. You can like characters who are mean, it's okay. Hold my hand. Now lets watch the movie again and pay attention this time.

And don't get me started with the Gabriella hate, the amount of times I've seen people cry sexism for Sharpay's treatment in the films and then turn around to call Gabriella a bitch...

Alright, so the very first one that came to mind was Kono Kalakaua/Danny Williams from the 2010 reboot of Hawaii Five-0.

Now, I am definitely a very loyal McDanno (Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams) girlie through and through. I also really enjoy(ed) Kono's relationship with Adam!!

That being said...

Kono and Danny had some flirtations during the very first few season one episodes. They for sure would have been cute together and really would have made an excellent couple overall. 🥰

Speaking of Hawaii Five-0...

Steve McGarrett and Dean Winchester is also a fave.

They feel so right to me in a way that truly doesn't make a lot of sense, which is how I know that this is an excellent crackship.

Perhaps they are too similar to each other, but then again, that's what would be fun about watching and reading about them!!

Next on this list, I'm gonna say Troy/Kelsi from High School Musical.

They are only a crackship because of how iconic Troy/Gabriella are...if Troy/Gabriella weren't the main romantic couple of the trilogy (Chad and Ryan aside of course because they definitely count, even if they weren't canon-canon! 💓), then I fully believe that they would have had more potential.

Troy complimented her song writing/composition abilities in the first movie and then at the end of HSM 1, literally gave her the championship basketball because she was "the playmaker". 🥺🥲😩💞

Also, all of the most romantic songs that Kelsi wrote for Troy and Gabriella...there was always just a little something extra there that made me think that she was moreso thinking about Troy and herself when she was writing them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's hard to explain exactly what I mean because of course Kelsi was always super respectful to Gabriella and Troy and Gabriella's relationship in general.

But I just feel that there was so much potential for them!! They definitely could have worked out and lasted way past high school. 💗

But yeah, they are also a major crackship because Troy was always hella smitten with Gabriella, even when he maybe shouldn't have been. 👀

Moving on, I have to mention Olivia Pope/Mellie Grant from Scandal.

They have so much history and moments together that really solidified them into the Crackship Hall of Fame. Maybe they aren't as cracky as what some crackships are, but they would have probably raised more than a few eyebrows if they had ever been real.

And for the record, Fitz didn't deserve either of them!!!!! 😤

Onto Law and Order: SVU...

Olivia Benson/Nick Amaro is a hardcore crackship.

There's no way Liv would have ever hooked up with Nick for realisies, but it's still hella fun to imagine what that would look like (:

I am also counting Elliot Stabler/Alex Cabot as a crackship!!!

They have just as much energy and chemistry as what Benson/Stabler and Benson/Cabot do.

It's easy to forget about them because of these factors, but it's also what makes them so nice to consider from time to time. (:

This is a pairing that literally doesn't make sense at all for many reasons. I still like to think about them together anyway though because it's fun and crazy!!

Finally, last but not least, I must mention all of my NFL RPF ships. (Tom/Rob, Tom/Jules, Jules/Danny, Joe/Ja'Marr etc.)

These are all crackships because they of course focus on real, living people who, no matter how damn obvious they are, have never confirmed real relationships with any of the people I ship them with. 🥴🫣😶‍🌫️😔

Kevin Regamey: To be honest, I've fallen off the MSPA train pretty hard. This has undoubtedly been the busiest year (or two) of my life, and I am only now returning to reacquaint myself with what the heck is up.

Maaan if only I got more curious, I could have discover Homestuck way earlier. That wouldn't have change the fact that it already ended (or was about to) by the time I discovered Undertale first (back in 2016). Must have been wild to have experienced MSPA during its inception and golden age. That thing huge, so I understand it can be hard to keep up especially when you get off the train a while ago.

Malcolm wrote the chiptune version of Showtime first. I heard it, dug it, and created a piano arrangement just for the hell of it. Like Malcolm has said - earlier on, we didn't necessarily know what we were writing for, so we just wrote whatever spoke to us.

Creative process can be so various and unique from one person to another. They didn't really know in which direction or for what they were writing, but they did anyway. And the chiptune version came first! Crazy.

Man, don't discredit yourself! You still did great, you're on the podium even if you're not first place. Yeah, having the skill and honor of defining a character theme is on a different level. But horizontally I would say. There's pride on both. If the chiptune version is well-known and catchy, the piano one is an iconic powerful track, mixing nostalgia, aimless yearning and tenderness. So much emotion that left a mark in each of us. Later to be magnified by the organ pipe version, by da man, James Roach.

I'd kind of like to, even if I think its fine if we don't because we Get The Gist and idk how much the creator wants us to sympathize/understand his character beyond the ~evil demon king~ (and thats not me saying he needs anything beyond that, tbh not every villain needs it and esp not the big bad in a lot of cases) but. this story, esp in this last arc has us AND the main characters sympathizing with the villains a Lot and exploring why theyre like that, and it makes me wonder if theyll extend that to him at all, or just, keep trying to Get His Ass. And we do know togas quirk is the reason shes Like That, so it doesnt feel like a stretch to say afos quirk is why hes Like That also. (NOT ME SAYING HE NEEDS ANYTHING LIKE REDEMPTION DEAR GOD. I'm not assuming the girl thing because of hair or clothes, rather that the placement of those characters in the story is more akin to how anime/japan writes female chatacters who aren't moe trash or w/e. KT has already shown or at least alluded to the fact that he's not afraid to play around with gender stereotypes/sexuality and SJ does have a history of altering writers work to fit the target demographic more i.e teen boys. I don't assume gender cos of clothes, oh no!

I like the idea that Ryou is just an effeminate boy, believe me, that's cool, same with Otogi but there are instances within the story and just knowing enough about this kind of writing that makes me question it a bit. It is only a theory and if I still was on tumblr, I'd be breaking it down. I think had KT been picked up by another manga publisher we would've seen an even more diverse cast & in this case I do think there would've been more female characters. Also, why was Miho taken out in DM?

I admit too that Honda takes a back seat early on I just picked up on all this now cos I'm rewatching Duelist kingdom and he's a teensy bit more present there. I don't think all bishounen are female either, not at all. It is hard for a writer to have female characters who aren't just tits/ass/ moral support in shounen though, so no, I would'nt be surprised if KT was altered/censored by SJ in order to rake in more cash. Eh, nevermind I really can't elaborate with this word limit anyway !

How does Miho even factor into this? She’s a one off side character in the manga that the toei anime took and included more for some reason. The DM anime cut out 90% of the early manga. They didn’t cut her out because she’s a woman lol she’s literally just not part of the main cast

But if you look at the female characters in his writing, as much as some of them are well written and have more agency than others you might see in the genre, most have an uncomfortable amount of sexism or objectification surrounding them. 

Kisara and Mai are subjected to extreme violence as part of their arcs in the story. Anzu is sexually harassed and super objectified in the early manga where KT clearly had the most creative freedom before YGO shifted focus to their commercialized card game. Why do that when he very clearly has no problem showing really uncomfortable stuff with the female characters he does have. In fact, later iterations of his work (such as DM and certain prints of the manga) would tone down a lot of the violence and weird stuff present.

If you seriously want to credit all of this to the publisher forcing him to objectify women in his work and turning his “female” characters male, that’s a batshit amount of plausible deniability you’re giving him. I think the theory he’s a closet bisexual and just doesn’t know how to write women hence all the homoeroticism and overabundance of male characters in YGO is more believable than that LMAO
