i just saw your post abt the plural plate theory and wanted to propose a mirror theory. because when a mirror breaks you just get a bunch of smaller mirrors. i think this also works better for those who prefer people stuff over parts stuff cause it acknowledges that each piece is its own separate mirror, while still making up one larger mirror when put together. food for thought

Related, but for those who don't like the connotation of analogies that imply being broken, I find water pretty interesting, where you can divide a pool of water and end up with many smaller pools of water that can also still be fused into a large pool of water again.

Maybe dissociative disorders are ice trays?

I mean, the form of dissociation that separates alters is commonly called compartmentalization. Seems like something maybe more metaphors should lean into.
