Okay, I’ve slept, and I wanna share how I imagine some of the LOA characters (specifically from EOM, Icebound, and OUAW) Smell like, bc I’m obsessed with that for some reason. Not including Twig or Daisy bc those are NPCs
Long post below. Beware.
Minor spoilers for EOM, but nothing too bad
[Edge of Midnight]
Marius: Marius is the only one whose scent changes slightly between his metamorphosis. Pre-Metamorphosis, he smells slightly metallic due to his armor, has a fairly strong musky outdoors smell, and an underlying scent of roses. Post-Metamorphosis, his musk has changed ever so slightly to be more “sultry” (the way colognes and men’s soaps market the musky smell), the scent of roses is more prominent now, and he has an underlying scent of iron (from blood, not armor)
Lethica: Lethica, for some reason, I associate with the smell of petrichor (rain) and licorice. I’m not sure why, possibly because of her color palette, but I do. Although, I do imagine she also has an underlying scent of roses, because of her feelings for Marius, and how The Duchess has clearly taken note of them
Jericho: Jericho is interesting. Jericho, being a scarecrow, smells roughly how you’d imagine a scarecrow would smell like. He smells like dirt, wheat, old cloth, yes, but he also smells metallic, woodsy, and there’s a trace of sulfur and brimstone (ik those are the same thing, but my mind pictures them to be two different smells for some reason)
Briggsy and Farryn: for the sake of brevity, I’m combining these two together, since they smell fairly similar. They both smell of rot and decay, however Briggsy moreso smells like a mixture of a rotting crocodile and a rotting fish, whereas Farryn smells more like moss and rotting plant life.
Yorgrim: Yorgrim smells like dirt—specifically freshly dug dirt. He also smells faintly of limestone, due to the gravestone on his back. I’d also argue that he smells like The Mists, but idk how to describe that smell.
[Icebound]
Barnabos, Jornir, and Skrimm: again, combining them for the sake of brevity. They all smell strongly of their natural musks, but Barnabos also smells like fish and low tide; Jornir smells like wet fur and wood; and Skrimm smells like alcohol (tho less-so now) and dirt
Taishen: Taishen smells of cinnamon, clove, sage, nutmeg, cardamom, etc. He smells essentially like chai. However he also smells faintly of fire. Idk how else to say this, he smells like a hot cup of tea on a winter morning. I just. Idk what else you want from me.
Queenie: Queenie, I picture, smells like flowers (daisies, daffodils, etc), and honey. Though she also has a fairly strong smell of wet fur and the outdoors.
[Once Upon A Witchlight]
Torbek: Torbek smells like a dumpster and wet fur. I. Idk what else you want from me. He also smells of Witchlight, but I don’t know how that would smell like other than Magic.
Gricko: Gricko smells like the outdoors, and like he spends his every waking moment with an animal, who also spends all her time outdoors.
Frost: Frost smells like ink, old parchment, old books, etc. he also smells of sage, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Basically, imagine drinking a cup of tea in an old library, and you’ve got Frost’s scent. Tho he does smell faintly animal-like, but that’s partly because he’s a Tabaxi, and mostly because he spends all his time with Gricko and Hootsie
Gideon: Gideon smells also of the outdoors, but in a different way. He smells like burning wood, like his cigars, like ashes, like, well, fire. He smells faintly of oil and metal, as well, and there’s an underlying scent of coal. There is also an underlying scent of cigarettes and Kremy’s perfume, however.
Kremy: Kremy smells of cigarettes, perfume (which, idk exactly how his perfume would smell like, but I imagine he would wear one that makes him smell rich), of a freshly pressed and freshly tailored suit. He also smells faintly of swamp water (or water in general), and however you’d imagine an alligator to smell like, idk. There’s also an underlying scent of cigars, oil, and fire, however.

Spoilers for icebound NPC
Do y’all think that if Honey hadn’t died she and Queenie could’ve been close
Idk I like to think her and Queenie could’ve had an even better friendship being older sister figures and such. I also though it’d be funny if both Queenie and Skrimm ended up with the human women but oh well
Maybe I’m just sleepy and thinking not straight

Random opinion on a topic that doesn't matter: LOA tails.
Uh so like people headcanon that Gricko has a tail and once i saw Torbek with a tail and even Pyke; so heres what I have to say.
I do be;ieve anyone can hc wgat they want, this is just my personal opinion. I also wanna say fanart of Gricko or Pyke with a tail is always so beautiful ohmygosh anyway.
Gricko: It is canon that Goblins don't have tails, and even Mikey, creator of Avantris and mastermind lore god, says canonically they dont have tails. I personaly don't hc it BUT it would make sense. thats because Goblins are small little freaks and tails are seen in small animals to help with balancing and stuff. I also get that hes a druid but yknow different strokes for different folks.
Torbek: (edit: its apparently canon that Torbek has a tail, thank you tumblr commentor for informing me) Canonically bugbears are just big hairy goblinoids but i hc that they have tails, short ones at least. To me iit just makes sense, and also in one of the earlier episodes of Beneath Dark Wings Mikey described a bugbear NPC as either cat or feline like and it just stuck with me cause yeah, theyre like big ol stinky cats. And also theyre called bugbears, which is based on a mythological bugbear which was just a scary bear, and bears have tails. I imagine bugbears have like really short bear, bobcat, or lynx style tails(pref lynx). OR lion or cow tails if ya nasty if you like long tails. im personally not a fan of that but it fits the vibe. Torbek's tail would be very scruffy and like fraying like a stray cat, and if he had a long tail to begin with it wouldve been chopped off by the doctor cause nothing good ever happens to Torbek.
Pyke: canonically hes an elf so id say no but hes technically a Solari, which is a homebrew race and a tail wasn't in his description, but theres nothing officially saying no. I get the appeal, but no. sick art tho, every time.
There are so many LOA PCs that canonically have tails so its not like were missing out on tail action. In OUAW bpth Kremy and Frost have tails, in Stardust Rhapsody Ziggy has a tail, BDW has Iris and Caprice, EOM has Farryn and Briggsy (and virgil if that counts), Icebound has Queenie (not Taishen tho, dragonborns dont have tails), Strahdanya has Shepherd and Sarnax, idk what Prime has, and Uprooted: Dimwits of the Dimwood has Grumley, Booker, Bitsy, Hazel, and Jean Claude.

hello i’m bored and need something to take my mind off of Bad Thoughts so here’s a list of my top 5 favorite LOA characters regardless of campaign:
1. Ko Tetsutora - I mean. Do i even have to elaborate lmao. her whole vibe is fantastic and i’m a sucker for the reckless, older sister, punk types of characters. she’s a badass and i love her. she does anything for the people she loves and the causes close to her heart and i am just. ah, i love her
2. Victoria Isaacs - On the other side of the character types, we have Victoria lol. She feels so tragic most of the time and knowing more about her on the second, third, and even fourth rewatch of “Curse of Strahdanya” makes her even more tragic. I’m a firm believer that her situation with Ilmater was kinda similar to Marius Renathyr’s situation with Lethander. how the Duchess of Sin was able to exert so much power over Marius that Lethander was unable to fully reach Marius despite multiple attempts. I believe that because Victoria is a half shadar-kai elf with the Raven Queen’s blessing quite literally in her blood, she was never Ilmater’s. Perhaps he tried to answer her prayers, but she was a child of the Raven Queen. and she was already suffering enough as it was. knowing what i know about Ilmater, i don’t think he wanted Victoria to inflict more needless suffering on herself (wow that was an essay, i’m sorry. i just really like Victoria lol)
3. Caprice De Sesto - another contender for the “stuck under the influence of the wrong person” crowd. he’s such a goof but also has such a big heart and doesn’t wanna see anyone get hurt. his songs make me laugh as much as they make my heart ache
4. Silas “Shepherd” Morgan - always a sucker for a cowboy. AND a gunslinger?? girl, i’m sold lol. another character with a huge heart and a moral code as admirable as it is fierce. he’d do anything for the people he loves but also tries to adhere to his moral code as best he can. his scenes with the kids from the mill are just. mmm so good
5. Daisy (i can’t remember if she has a last name) - What?? An NPC?? No fuckin way! Look, she’s a baddie and no one will ever tell me otherwise. she’s been through so much but absolutely REFUSES to let it get her down. she’s funny, she’s sassy, she’s hardy. i love her so much. she also finds a way to take up her own agency in a campaign that’s as brutal as Icebound and i’ve never been so happy for a fictional character lol
(obviously this is not an exhaustive list. i love a lot of the characters in the Avantris world but these are just MY personal top five who i think about the most :P)

Hey LOA Fans!
I noticed (or at least I think?) there are no LOA-Tober events. So I decided to create my own! Considering there are many great artists in this community, I hope I can get people to participate!
I obviously could not put every character or every bit or campaign, but I made sure to include some. Take as much creative liberty as you please lol.
This was hastily made, I'm sorry it's not very pretty, but I hope you'll consider drawing, even if it's not everyday! :)
Happy October either way! Good luck!

Dude icebound reminds me SO MUCH of black mesa (video game) in terms of how they both deal with NPCs...
Like in black mesa, every single NPC has unique dialogue. They have names, a lot of them have unique faces, and every single one you kill is actively a consequence to your own sanity. You aren't discouraged from killing them, but you also aren't rewarded for it. Killing a black mesa NPC truly feels like you're killing a person.
Icebound NPCs are equally full of life--even if Derek can't remember their roles half the time, the fact he's gone out of his way to name every single one? To make some of them younger, older, men, women, to give them slightly different inflections and temperaments for people the party will ultimately only interact with for a half hour at most? It's insanely impressive!
It feels like every single person truly has weight in these worlds, that they truly matter to their environment and the people around them. While I completely understand NPCs being sidelined most of the time in order to focus on main plots and comedic moments, I'm glad that life and death are taken so grimly serious in these medias. It's almost refreshing? Everyone matters...

SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR EP 5 OF ICEBOUND
.
.
.
Is it possible that Branwen can talk about her story when the lights appeared?
OHHHH, interesting I actually haven't thought about that.
Technically she could, if I make her tho is kind of a coin toss, since I technically treat her more like an NPC than a PC, and I haven't currently given her a meaningful backstory that would correlate with the current story, but wth why not (my oc my rules I guess, even if I have to bent canon a bit)
So Harpies usually are described as a race that doesn't really stay in packs right? Small ones at most. But what due to the harsh environment of the land they were breaking the norm of the race and stayed in a big flock in the mountains? Still Harpies are not very friendly to other creatures by nature, and get in a fight with the princess, so the princess of wrath (for story reasons that may be spoilers idk) decides to erase them all from existence, killing every Harpy that she finds.
She FINDES.
Because Branwen, who was still a small child at that, due to her feathers having no spots, stayed hidden from view. But she still sees. And she remembers what the princess did, annihilate the Harpy race on the entire land, sans herself.
And she swears once she get's her claws on the princess, she will be the only white winged creature flying over the mountains at the end of the day.

My Midas and his snapshots headcanons
(I try to keep my inclusion to a minimum)
OG Midas - Midas in his prime. I'd put him in anywhere from late 20s to later 30s, perhaps pushing 40 even. Got his shit figured out. Fully transitioned. Had a wife. Divorced said wife. Had a daughter, an equally bad relationship with her, but deep down he cares. (I have to bully him sometimes to make him admit it). Is a lot better with his curse now, avid collector and still a renounced criminal. Had established Ghost and Shadow. Flooded the island.
Midas Rex - I'd like to say this is post loot-shark attack Midas. But hear me out, I say that because I genuinely like to imagine there is absolute jack shit under that armor of his. His entire armor is just pressurized circuitry with the remains of a human head strapped in. I do not like to think he's canon to the current timeline of Fortnite, but he did exist in an older version of the timeline
Shadow Midas - I've seen so many theories about why Shadow Midas canonically exists. My take? He's a dead version of the OG Midas that didn't somehow save himself with the Rex armor post island flood/shark attack. Which means he exists in his own separate timeline as well. His golden touch shifts to the shadow touch (name pending because idk what it's actually called), which has been shown to modify the genetic makeup of organics and the appearances of non-organic objects. He's also like 80% corporeal, but phases through stuff when it's deemed funny.
Marigold - Alright this makes no sense by any means, but I'm gonna take a stretch and say that this is Midas' second daughter. Probably a bit older than Jules, but I feel like she actually comes from a separate timeline that merged with the main one at the time where she was canon. (I don't remember how long ago it's been since she was on the island as an NPC.) I get it, she's female Midas, but. Bird brain and a few interesting tidbits make me feel like they overlap as something other than just snapshots of each other. (And I'm not saying lover because fuck that shit. Midas has tattoos to reference his other daughter, I don't see how this is different.)
Midsummer Midas - I'd like to think he's canon to the main timeline. Where Midas survives and heals from the shark attack. But. He's gone into hiding. And this is probably the last public appearance we see of OG Midas. He's just here to like. Try and be a good father. And try to eat his ice cream, play with a beachball, etc. This is also the variation I stared at to learn about the Marigold's name tattoo on his leg.
Icebound - There's not a lot of documentation on him. I'd like to think he's yet another alternative timeline version of Midas. What significance does he have? I dunno.
Golden Gear Midas - Objectively younger Midas. Probably in the 18 to early 20s range. Vault cracker, criminal for the stacks, street punk in the best way, a bit wreckless, did not have the greatest control of his golden touch (hence the gold patch on his cheek), didn't have his daughter yet nor established GHOST or SHADOW as organizations yet. Personal touch? Pre-transitioned Ftm.
Midas Flopper - Uh. Nonverbal. How he ended up as a thing that exists in the Fortnite universe is a mystery to the loop itself. Unknown why upon consumption it causes a looper to barf up a legendary gun.
There was like two more potential Midas snapshots that were supposed to be counted, but idk what to write about that bony fuck Oro. (I'm 90% sure that's the origin of the golden touch?) Cyclo is also an iffy write for me too because it has the same body mold, but I don't have a clue what his lore actually is. (I think he has to do with zero point or the eye of the storm experiments, but don't hold me to that.)

I gotta ask, what do you think of uprooted so far? What’s your favorite bit? Favorite npc? Anything you wanna mention really
I am LOVING Uprooted so far. It's a nice in between of the goofiness of Once Upon a Witchlight, with some seriousness to it and, of course, downfalls of corrupt politicians that I'm vibing with.
Favorite bit is hard to say. The perverts are really iconic, but Bitsy having moments of genius before saying 'what happened' has probably made me laugh the most.
Favorite NPC, easily, without a shadow of a doubt: Benji the bear. He started fucking talking and my heart melted. He's just so cute and sweet, he don't know better but that's okay, "I like my new friends." WUAGH- Oh, and Nestor's there too, I guess, but Benji wins.
God... I know going into this it was going to be something, but I didn't go in, expecting to come out with an Absolute Menace as my favorite. This is, the first time, that I'll consistently put a player character as my favorite and not dart around with two or three or all of them (I can't choose in Once Upon a Witchlight, Shepherd and Sarnax battle in Curse of Strahdanya, don't make me choose in Icebound-). Bitsy is my favorite player character, and it's a definitive choice.
I can't wait to meet Jean Claude in season 2. So far, Uprooted is above Once Upon a Witchlight for me, I'm a sucker for woodland creatures. Curse of Strahdanya and Icebound are still in the number 1 and 2 spot respectively, but that can change based on who you ask (consistently, this is the general stances).
Uhm- I'm still singing The Crawdad Song from episode 4, it's actually been helping keeping my voice from going out! Legends of Avantris has been one of the only things that I'll sit down and binge watch. Which, it's rare air and an oddity for me, because normally after just watching one episode of anything (long or short), we have to pause and move around because trying to process so much then going in again immediately afterwards makes us fuzzy as all hell. Very few things have caused that, but Criminal Minds is just a different story told with some main character details throw in.
It's. Fucking awesome, to say the least. And... Also, in a weird twist, I don't feel behind. I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be. I'm saving UpRooted season 2 for, at least, after Curse of Strahdanya. Speaking of which, I need to write that down in my notebook.

I think - at least for me - the reason why a lot of these Icebound NPCs hit so hard and stick in my brain so soundly is because of how fucked up their circumstances are. Yes, NPC lives and deaths are often a coin flip away in most campaigns, but a lot of the NPCs that have met their end in Icebound, it feels so properly cruel for a world as difficult and hard-core as the one Derek's making.
Like the More Abound crew were a bunch of scared and starving men, manipulated by fear and hunger and anger. Fenten Armstead died likely because he was a good man who tried staying strong about weathering things out, entrusting in his captain and the party. Only for him to be brutally stabbed and his throat cut and his body left in the snow. All for trying to do his job, for building morale, for trusting a man he had known for years but doing so at a bad time. Roland died a sad scared starving boy who didn't know his father died until moments before his own death. Who had fled from certain demise only to find the only people on the continent who properly gave a fuck about him to watch him wheeze and suffocate and freeze until he died, wishing for his father, Queenie almost breaking his neck out of mercy and kindness. Only for his body to be contorted to a thing it never should have become, and for his father later to beg Barnabos to take care of his son, to tell him he loved him, but Roland would never know. His dad would never know he was already gone. The way Honey trusted Barnabos and ran when he said to. How Derek said she had lost her 50/50 shot because she trusted these people who decided to be kind to her, that wanted to help her and her sister. She had just gotten a taste of the world outside Ogreton, and because she met the right people at the wrong time, she died being brutally eaten alive and her little sister home alone. How they keep calling her sister her name, never forgetting her; and Daisy never holding it against them even though she could.
So many characters have such brief moments to shine, but the unfairness, the injustice, the brutality. It just sticks with you. That was a full person who just died and because what? Because they came into proximity of the party. Shits fucking crazy.
