When I was a fashion and textile design student at UEL in the early 1980s, Terence Conran was considered, quite fairly, an icon within the design industry. 

He founded Habitat, the first store opened in the Fulham road, though I spent more hours browsing Habitat on the Kings Road, which of course was closer, and meant I could also wander into the Great Gear Market, Marvelettes and World’s End etc. 

Habitat and Heels were probably at the time at the forefront of decor chic in London. I was ever able to afford anything on my student grant, but I loved going there anyway and browsing.

Credibility interview is a mandatory part of your admission and visa application process and its main goal is to find out if you area genuine student. In this section you will find the most common interview questions, explanation what university or visa officer wants to find out and a safe answer. Q: Have you been to the UK before? If yes, why and for how long?  E: They want to find out your previous immigration history, previous applications and visa refusals.  A: I have never been to the UK or any other countries. 

Q: Why do you want to study in the UK?

E: To find out the reasons of why you want to study in the UK and if you are a genuine student. 

A: I see this as a great opportunity for myself. People, who speak good English and have a UK degree in Business Management are in high demand on the Ukrainian market. I would like to be competitive on Ukrainian job market and get international experience in a world recognised university as it is an investment in my future and it will open the doors wherever I go.

Q: Why did you choose this course? 

E: To find out your knowledge about the course, assessments, interests and modules. 

A: I was interested in business courses, because now the world is changing at very fast pace. That's why this is good opportunity for me to gain knowledge, which I will use in my job in the future or even in my own business. By studying this course I will be a standout and strong specialist. I have chosen this course because it offers such modules as Economics, Business Statistics, Data Analysis, Business Accounting, Project Management, that are essential for any business and will be very useful in the future. Assessment will be based on theoretical skills (exams) and practical (applied business project), so I will gain knowledge and experience I need before entering this competitive job market.

Q: Which other universities did you consider?

E: Your reasons for choosing to study in X university compared to alternatives. Important: Be specific when comparing institutions, you may want to think about modules, course content, location, costs, accessibility, tutor profiles, university rankings, post-study employment statistics and opportunities.

 A: I had 3 unconditional offers: one from the Greenwich University, one from the BPP University and one from the University of East London. The Greenwich University Course was Business Management BA and fees were £13000 per year. I didn’t choose this course because in my opinion it was too concentrated on HR subjects, like Managing Organizations and Individuals, International Human Resource Management, Business Ethics, Cross Cultural Management, etc. Course name in BPP was advanced diploma in accounting and finance and course duration was 18 months. Fees were £8010 for the whole course. BPP is good university, which is accredited fully by ACCA, but it wasn't Bachelor’s Degree. I decided to go for Business Management BA course, because they offer Marketing, Data Analysis, Business Management modules that I am interested in and are much more practical and even offer Business Management Internship. This course is fully accredited by Chartered Management Institute which will give a professional recognition as well as networking and mentoring opportunities. Fee is £12100 per academic year and I was offered £1500 scholarship. I have chosen this course because post-study statistics show that 95% of students find a job within 6 months after completing this course.

Q: Why did you choose this university?

E: To find out your reasons to choose this specific university A: University of East London offers one of the most trusted and innovative study opportunities. It is also located near the Central London, which has a lot of opportunities, and a model city for the rest of the Europe and worldwide. It equips the graduates with the modern facilities to be competitive in anywhere. In UEL I will be connected to an international community of students and former students from more than 120 countries. I will be able to get to know people from different cultures and countries, learn from them and develop personally. In the University of East London, I will be able to pursue my personal interests, make lifelong friends and enjoy the excitement of university life. As at UEL there are almost 60 societies and 26 different sports clubs, I am sure I will join one (or even more) in order to boost my opportunities and future career. 

Q: Tell me more about London, what research did you do about the city?

 E: To make sure that you completed your research about the city you would like to study in

 A: London is the capital and the largest city in the UK. It is one of the most important global cities, which gives unlimited opportunities for people who want to develop. London is the most diverse and welcoming city in the world according to the Guardian Newspaper. I love the combination of old and new in London. I can visit Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament as well as modern buildings as the Shard or a Sky Garden in Fenchurch. I am very excited about the trip and I can’t wait to see this beautiful iconic city. 

  Q: What is the rating of this university?

E: To check if you made a research and you know your university ranking 

A: 104th in the Guardian University Guide 2020. UEL places in the top 200 for second year running in global Times Higher Education Young University Rankings. In case you are applying to the BPP University, REMEMBER, it has no rating. It is a private university. (As BPP do not offer any research based courses, this excludes BPP from the Complete University Guide ranking table, where one of the rating criteria is research). 

Q: Why did you choose to study in the UK?

E: To understand the reason why would you like to study in the UK. 

A: UK degree is accepted everywhere in the world including in Ukraine. I have noticed that specialists with European diplomas are in high demand. After completing my course, I will be a standout candidate for local and international companies with my experience, and will be much easier to find well paid jobs with UK degree. In the future it is my dream to run my own business.

Q: What are your future plans after you complete the course?

E: To find out if you researched a job market and are planning to come back to your country 

A: After completing my course I will be a strong specialist with international experience. I will return to my home country and apply for a jobs in companies in Kyiv, there are a lot of foreign companies, coming to Ukraine which need skilled specialists. Starting position will be business manager. I have made some research and found vacancies in different companies, such as IBM, Accenture and British American Tobacco. Starting salaries are from 800-1000$. I wish I could open my own business and work for myself, even if it will be a little company. I will develop my skills and after having some money I will use opportunity to run my own business. 

Q: How does this course help you achieve this? 

E: To find out the relevance of course to post-study plans 

A: As I mentioned before, there are a different types of educational resources, which will help me to deal with different situations in job or even life. There will be lots of opportunities to practice in local or international companies. They support students and help them achieve big targets. Now I don't have rich experience, and I hope I will gain them through the course. I have burning desire to gain knowledge and step by step reach my goal. 

Q: Can you confirm how much you earn per month in pounds? 

E: Whether you have enough funds to meet course fees, and living costs for yourself and any dependants for the duration of the course in the UK.

 A: I work part time and my salary is around 150 pounds monthly.

Q: How much will it cost you to complete this course in full?

E: To gain qualification from the UK is a considerable investment and interviewer needs to make sure that you understand it and know how much it will cost for you. 

A: It will cost around 70000 pounds for 3 years Calculation: course fee x 3 years + living expenses (£1265 living expenses x 9 months x 3 years).

  Q: Where will you live whilst studying ?

E: To make sure that you arranged accommodation. Please use information from your accommodation arrangement letter to answer this question.

 A: I will live in Finsbury Park, in a double room, which will be shared with another short term student. The property is located 3 minutes from Finsbury Park underground station. My rent is £120 per week including bills.

Q: How will you get from and to the school every day? E: The distance between your place of studies and proposed accommodation in the UK 

A: I will buy a travel card and be using public transportation. I checked my commute on the TFL website. I can use the Victoria line, The Piccadilly line or the bus 19. It will take me approximately half an hour to get to university every day. To check the time and details of my commute I will use TFL (Transport for London), Citymapper App and Google Maps. 

 Q: Are you going to work in the UK? 

E: To find out if you are planning to work in the UK 

A: NO, I will fully concentrate on my studies. DO NOT say that you plan to work in the UK as your visa application might be refused. Work allowance is 20 hours per week. 

Q: Do you have any dependants (for example children or other family members that are financially dependent on you)? 

E: Your personal circumstances, where these may make it difficult to complete a fulltime course of study. 

Recommendation: even if you have dependants, it is better to apply for their visas once you already got yours.
