I mean in an actual opera of Good Omens I'd definitely make Aziraphale a countertenor

...although if he were just a regular tenor you could cast Michael Spyres in the part he was born to play and just throw in some crazy-ass high notes for funsies and because you have Michael Spyres to sing them. Hmmmm. Now I am extremely torn about this opera that does not exist and that my always-dubious-even-when-I-wrote-music-regularly composition skills are not up to anyway.

BOOK 6 PART ONE SPOILERS

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I feel like talking about book 6, so here are my thoughts

(Including some screenshots)

I apologize in advance for the lack of organization, it skips around a lot and it isn't really proofread either.

Book six low key feels like a fan fic. Idk if it's because I read it all at one and my brain isn't registering it yet or if I've just been anticipating it for too long.

Not saying it's bad or anything, I actually really like it so far, it's just different from the rest of the books.

Omfg it's halarious, it's pretty much Idia babysitting the overbloted students meanwhile everyone (including Idia) is complaining about everything.

Ortho's voice in the beginning sounded weird to me. I've been spoiled on book six before it came out in En, and if what I saw was right or if I remember correctly it might be relevant? Not sure though, but to not spoil anything not out in En yet, I won't elaborate.

Speaking of Ortho though:

Yes Ortho, the target has to be alive. I love you but if you kill my cat I swear to whatever deities you believe in the consequences won't be pretty.

Also Crowley's voiced response is so funny to me, he just screeches.

M/c's house is even more ramshackle now, and has a giant cauldron in the floor (thanks Deuce).

Speaking of Ramshackle, Vil pays each VDC member either 50,000 marks or their share of 50,000 marks (before STYX comes btw), but most of them end up donating it to fixing up Ramshackle and refurbishing it.

Although most of that money is probably going to go to rebuilding it now...

I love how one of the dialogue options in that chapter was referencing the huge cauldron in the middle of the lounge.

Epel speaks a lot more country like in this book and I love it, yes king yee haw.

Who was going to tell me Rook has 5 siblings?? Who?? And he's the third oldest of like 6??

(I can only imagine what the rest of them are like lol)

His family also has magic teleportation pads across Twisted Wonderland, because his ancestors liked to travel??

"The more I learn about you the more mysterious you become." - Epel's reaction to those Rook bombshells.

We also learn Rooks unique magic, although like Trey and Jamil it's diffrent in English than in Japanese.

But Arrow Afar sounds kinda cool though, I like it better than I See You. Unlike Trey and Jamil I think it's an upgrade. (Doodle Suit and Snake Whisper are so much better than Paint the Roses and Snake Charmer smh)

Arrow Afar lets Rook track the location of what or whoever he casts it on which is really fitting for his character. I thought his unique magic would explain the uncanny amount he knows about literally everyone, but apparently not.

Rook also magics the M/c a Pomefiore dorm uniform and one of the player dialogue options are "I can feel my posture straighten just from wearing this"

We also find out why Rook wanted to go to STYX, and it was to make sure Vil got his skincare products. That's it. Epel followed him because he was pissy. And M/c just wanted to talk to Grim.

Tbh I love the Epel Rook bonding time we got out of book 6 so far, I love the dynamic they have.

When they breached STYX and told Idia why they were there, Idia really said "Me and the boys at three am looking for B̵̳̫͇͈̞̝͖͒̅Ę̸̡͇̹̻̙͉̮̪͕̱͖̏̂A̶̺̤͓͑̇́̂N̸͖̟̺̤̣̱̣̠̊͐̔́́̒̾̐̕͘ͅS̵̢͎̳̳͓̤̜̓͜͜"

Idia made Grim cry. I don't care if it was indirectly, I'm going to break his kneecaps /j.

His robots also knocked Ace and Deuce unconscious and I just want to make sure they're ok, we left before they woke up. I wanna make sure they're ok??

Crewel also referred to them their actions as "phenomenally stupid".

When the Charon bots abducted Azul it was kinda funny seeing Idia just casually chatting to them. Like everyone was fighting for their lives for all they knew and Idia is just like "You gotta chill out a bit, someone's gonna sue you..."

It's pretty much cannon now that if you lock two or more NRC students in a room together, they will without a doubt pick a fight with each other /hj.

I can't add anymore images to this post but trust me when I tell you Idia shipped the students in a cargo crate together like they just came out of the movie Madagascar.

Riddle was on top of Leona during shipping and when Leona told him he was squishing him Riddle replied with "I was wondering what that muscley pillow was."

"Yeah, tell that to they guy whose lap you've been snoring on for three hours." - Leona

After discussing what they knew about the situation and Idias involvement, Azul comments that if he had known, he would have tried harder to get Idia indebted to him. And then I believe it was Jamil or Riddle who commented about his one track mindedness.

What happened to Crowley?? Charon took him as well, but he's only mentioned like once after and no one confirms that he is or isn't at STYX.

We learn about the Shroud curse, and that it eats the any blot that accumulates in them but without a constant blot production, it would start to eat their magic. We also learn that that's why Idia and Orthos hair is fire.

Idia also mentions the blue flame of Grims ears and that Grim is cursed too, but he can't figure out what the effects are, who casted it, or why. But he says that it's a very old curse.

We learn more about how blot works and about the phantoms (the monsters that appear behind the overbloted students).

The amount of cryptic likely foreshadowy comments were astronomical.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head and from any screenshots I took, so let me know if I forgot anything worth mentioning and I'll try and add it in.

okay re: nanny prompts i’m. okay. it isn’t that i have a problem with nanny ashtoreth being attractive, or that i have a specific problem writing smut about nanny ashtoreth. i’ve defo joked about it, and normally if i’m okay writing humour about something, i’m okay writing smut, and vice versa

however.

there’s a prevalent trope in british comedy that is kind of based around the Nanny, which is obviously a very big like, cultural thing - the nanny in upper middle class and up households who looks after the kids. usually, she’s like, a matronly and maternal woman with a stern side, but also like a twinkle in her eye, yeah? and sometimes she’s a little bit younger, esp if they’re pairing her off w a widower, or she’s a little bit magical. mary poppins, nurse matilda (/nanny mcphee), even chars like maria von trapp

right. and then there’s comedic subversion of the typical nanny - for example, in peter pan, the darlings couldn’t afford a nanny, so they had nana instead, who was a saint bernard, but took excellent care of the kids anyway. 

then, you have the Naughty Nanny. the naughty nanny, as nanny ashtoreth is described in the book, is the nanny who really isn’t for kids - she’s intended for D/s-themed advertisements in the back of magazines, she has a sultry voice and thin lips and a certain way of looking at you, she wears all black and moves deliberately, and if you say a word out of line she’ll probably give you a spanking, no matter how old you are. i could go on about the cultural fetish for the naughty nanny in british pop culture, which kind of goes hand-in-hand with the thing about matrons, and is kind of??? not the same as, but i guess parallel to like, both the MILF and sexy babysitter archetypes in american comedies. naughty nanny is usually a mature woman, and there’s a lot of things that are specifically about discovering one’s sexuality bc of a sexy nanny, e.g. freddy mercury’s naughty nanny stuff in Fat Bottomed Girls

a lot of the time, with the Naughty Nanny archetype, there’s a kind of common joke which is like. when Naughty Nanny has accidentally been hired to look after the kids, and to a lesser extent (i’m pretty sure i’ve seen it once or twice?), there’s when you accidentally hire a Nanny Nanny for the d/s services. a brightly smiling, rosy cheeked woman with a cheerful manner who tells you to eat your greens giving you a spanking is, okay, comedic

but the thing about the Naughty Nanny + kids punchline is that the butt of the joke isn’t just the subverted expectations, but this thing about like. the joke is often that we, the audience, and the men in the piece of media, see how sexy Nanny is being - her sultry voice, the emphasis she uses, the way she moves or talks, apparent innuendos in the things she says - but the kids don’t. the joke is that these men (and us, the audience, assumed to be straight and male) are titillated by the nanny, but that the kids (and perhaps their mother) have no idea what’s going on over their heads.

innuendo and double meaning and implication are all huge in the british comedy tradition, as is this kind of trope, and i didn’t actually realize until i was talking about it last night, how... absent it is from the american one, bc american comedy is usually a great deal more overt, and this one is wrapped up in like, 102 implications. it’s not subtle, just that... you don’t see it unless you’re used to seeing it, i guess

and that was where part of my discomfort came from in going back over the book lines to write the Nanny Knows Best fic, because a lot of her dialogue with warlock sounds completely innocent, but because she’s introduced as a sexualised, bdsm figure who advertises strangely explicit services, her lines are then overladen with an expected innuendo and she’s constantly being sexualised

so with that in mind i. don’t like some of the nanny sex prompts, and am a little leery of filling some of them, because:

i’m uncomfortable with the idea of nanny being sexualised on the job, especially when she’s doing perfectly innocent with warlock

i’m deeply uncomfortable with the idea of nanny crowley making sexual come-ons over warlock’s head, bc he doesn’t understand them, haha

i’m really not... at all comfortable with the way that the BDSM archetype from the book has combined with the transmisogyny thing intended in the script, which is “crowley is the nanny but he’s a man and she’s a woman, hahaha”, especially because trans women are sexualised and fetished so rampantly

i am personally leery of the fact that basically every sexy nanny trope i have seen as been either “nanny is a dom and is dominating everyone in sight, possibly aggressively” or “nanny is usually a dom but the partner is Putting Her In Her Place”

re: both the BDSM thing being applied to a childcare professional combined with the transmisogynistic elements, the fact that all the sex is so aggressive is something i’m not really comfortable with.

i’ve not seen a single prompt for “nanny and francis have sweet, loving sex” for example

i don’t think it’s bad to be attracted to nanny, and tbh like. as i said, this is a huge trope in the british comedy tradition, so i’m really like... idk, not judgy that people are used to it? but it personally, because of this combo of factors, makes me quite uncomfortable, and so i can’t promise i’ll fill like, the vast majority of nanny ashtoreth prompts when they’re of a sexual bent.

Well there go a lot of questions. :) I’m gonna tackle all of them one after the other in the order you asked them.

Yes, I did actually stumble upon the “hope it still runs” as well when I re-watched the episode. During first watch I hadn’t really heard that. And it is indeed I personally think meant to stand out. It’s a distancing happening here that I am seeing directly in line with how Dean consciously and very decidedly distanced himself from their mother the episode before by calling her Mary instead of Mom (see here). We have seen this kind of treating the Impala as an it only once before: when Dean was a demon. And that is indeed an interesting aspect to keep in the back of your mind, because as much as the Impala is a symbol for Dean himself, it is also an object directly tied to family. When Dean was a demon however, he didn’t feel any kind of responsibility or care for the people he usually feels closest too. Instead he only did what he wanted without taking anybody else’s emotions into account. There have been a few allusions and nods to Dean’s time as a demon/with the MoC in the past few episodes and this is especially interesting in so far as the last few episodes very directly eroded the feeling of family Dean craved and the understanding and wishes he had for it. In the past few episodes he has been lied to, betrayed, walked all over and treated as being ridiculous for feeling the way he felt (and which he had every right to feel like, because well, he wasn’t going behind someone else’s back) and in the end even decided to work with the BritMoL against his better knowledge and wishes, because his closest family “chose” the BritMoL over Dean or rather their own set of dealing with stuff. So yeah, in that regard imo one could read this moment as one more sign of Dean shutting down in order to not get hurt any further.

Aside from that however, one could also assume btw that Dean meant the engine with “it” - that the engine still runs when the car was damaged so much.

The “girl of the week”-line to me seemed like one of those moments the writers tried to be funny and maybe even a bit “meta”, but instead it was just a bit eyeroll-worthy. I think however that Dean said it with enough sarcasm and self deprecation in his voice that I didn’t get that vibe from it that you did. :) The line in itself was absolutely un-needed though.

I do get the disappointment. What the show is doing with Cas’ arc is dissatisfying too, especially as they had made such major progress with Cas up until this point in the season with him pinpointing his feelings and emotions, etc. and now they go back to yet another round of “Cas trying to reconcile with Heaven” and it ending with Castiel being even more beatdown in the aftermath of it and likely hated even more so that his depression will only get worse. I truly think the issue with these stories lies in the fact that the writers sadly have no clue what to do with Cas and because they need to explain his absence and Misha not beign in more episodes in some silly fashion Castiel must always be on some other mission. And yeah... I wished they stopped with that. I do hope that this will be the final part of Castiel’s arc before he choses to become human on his own terms. Because for that I think it is vital for Cas to return to Heaven once more, feeling like he redeemed himself yet another time, but most importantly isn’t remembered and hated any longer. I personally hope that this may be Castiel’s last mission with the angels. A mission that wil show him succeed and would mean him being welcome back in the fold in Heaven and getting the chance to be with his “family” again as the angel said in this episode. I think it is vital that Cas will go back and will be considered part of the family again in Heaven in order for him to truly realize what he has voiced multiple times before: that he may be an angel, but his home and family is no longer Heaven. That’s my hope for this arc.

I am a bit weary about Joshua tbh. I just hope he won’t be turned into another power hungry angel, because I did really like Joshua as the gardener in 5x16 “Dark Side of the Moon”. I really hope they’ll use the same actor too. That said, story wise I’m not sure why they introduce exactly him, we’ll maybe because he was closest to God for a while, but yeah... No immediate thoughts on him. I just hope he won’t trun out being a massive dick.

I actually really enjoyed Crowley and Dean walking through the woods together and having that conversation. It of course echoed the conversation they had in 10x18 “Inside Man” and it does show that despite everything they do in some fashion care or at the very least appreciate the other one. To me that conversation actually did relate quite directly to the episode and big arc as imo the point is to contrast “monsters” who do good with “humans” (BritMoL) who are way more dangerous and monstrous. Like the conversation highlighted was: there are a whole lot of shades of grey between black and white - which the BritMoL aren’t even interested in seeing.

And last but not least Sam’s revelation about the BritMoL: I think Dean has sown very clearly how disillusioned and hurt he is by Sam’s and Mary’s actions and their lies to him and with Sam even worse having him work for the BritMoL without Dean even knowing. To me Dean hasn’t joined the BritMoL at all. He was bullied into saying alright, we give it a shot, but he is not on board with it and I don’t think that will change at any point in time. I think what the show is heading towards is a moment where either Sam will not bail with Dean as he had promised and that will cause even more tension or Dean may be considered too rebelious and therefore may have to suffer whatever the other hunter they called “rogue” did too. And sadly it may only then be that Mary and Sam truly get a grip on what nasty fuckers the BritMoL really are. But that’s of course just my personal headcanon. :)
