šŸ”„Puella Magi Madoka Magica
šŸ”„Renaruki
šŸ”„ MadoMagi:
The original anime was pretty mediocre and had a mediocre soundtrack. Its fatal flaw is that it tries to center itself around a single main character (Madoka Kaname herself) whose viewpoint we see the world through, but her characterization physically cannot get focus in this format in an anime, because you just don't get to see how deeply screwed up her worldview is if you never know what she's thinking. Consequently, you actively lose information by telling the story in a format other than a novel or VN. (Observant viewers may recognize this as the same ultimate problem behind why adapting FSN for the screen inherently requires getting more exposit-y about Shirou's deal.) Ultimately, I wholeheartedly recommend skipping the MadoMagi TV anime entirely; most of the best parts of the Puella Magi Series are elsewhere and don't expect familiarity with a disappointing TV anime. (The Different Story, Rebellion, and Wraith Arc escape this curse by not being Madoka-centric, instead focusing on more conventional protagonists in Kyouko and Homura.)
Rebellion was a perfectly fine ending in and of itself, and it doesn't need a sequel. The only reason I'm interested in Walpurgis no Kaiten's existence is that it seems to be going so far out of left field that I kind of have to entertain it and find out what the cook is.
Of the "classic" Puella Magi titles (pre-2017, i.e. before Magia Record), I'd rank them like this:
Puella Magi Tart Magica - Masugitsune
Puella Magi Oriko Magica - Kuroe Mura
Extended Puella Magi Madoka Magica Series - Gen Urobuchi (TV, Rebellion, Wraith Arc) & Masaki Hiramatsu (TDS) & Hanokage (Wraith Arc)
Puella Magi Suzune Magica - GAN
Puella Magi Kazumi Magica - Masaki Hiramatsu
Rankings of Tart and Oriko may be swapped depending on how I'm feeling that day.
This is not to say that Suzune and Kazumi are bad manga, but the former quite infamously ran into production troubles and the latter bit off way more than it could chew, and it shows. Kazumi has a lot of cool plot ideas and themes in play but reading it for the first time can feel like being subjected to a plot point firing squad. The original manga run of Suzune was good but not spectacular -- it didn't truly get to shine until the MagiReco crossover events started happening. (It has been 1200 days since the last Suzune event...)
MagiReco fans often describe Arc 2 as "when it gets good," and it's common to write off Arc 1 entirely as an extended prologue, however I do still maintain that Arc 1 is a good story on its own terms. You can feel the weight of the production issues (there's a very noticeable midpoint shift where a major rewrite happened) but it's still a perfectly fine and coherent story. Most of what the fandom writ large likes to call "flaws of Arc 1" are just, intentional foreshadowing.
When AniReco (the companion anime to MagiReco that tells a completely separate story)'s final batch of episodes originally came out that fateful April 3, I gave the production as a whole a massive side-eye (I distinctly remember logging on and asking a chatroom I was in "what is even happening?? Why is the anime Folklore of Zero propaganda all of the sudden?? Wait, Neo Dorothy Motherfucker???? Huh??????"), but I've since warmed up to it. It's its own thing, and you have to have its place in the series' cosmology and the showrunner's goals in writing it explained to you first before you start watching, and it makes some writing decisions I find to be questionable, but it did a remarkably good job for a series that was slashed from 39 episodes down to 25 halfway through.
Apparently this is a hot take now: I like Nagisa Momoe's actual backstory as detailed in MagiReco a hell of a lot better than "dumb idiot child wished for cheese instead of healing her ailing mother." The collected Nagisa cycle of MagiReco stories makes her arguably the single most interesting member of the Holy Quintet.
I want more Kyubey worldbuilding, goddammit! We know precious little -- the Incubators were created by an advanced alien civilization (local expert Touka Satomi, A1C9), and their tissue is analogous to stem cells and can be reconfigured on the fly (Kosane Kiriha, NMG) -- and I need to know more! What were the progenitors like? Did they wipe themselves out? Actually, now that I think about it, are Incubators like Touhou's shikigami where you take fleshy hardware and flash it with your own artificial intelligence? We know a human can control one (Madoka uses LoC-branded pink Incubators for surveillance purposes) and we know a human can have their soul shoved into one losslessly (mokyu!), so like, what are the limitations here? Hell, the Pleiades made their own once! It sucked at its job, but it existed! How did they do that? Tell meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I think that even in the absence of the Automatic Purification System, being a magical girl is just kind of objectively better than being human. You get to opt out of mortality, you get private(-ish) telepathic communication for free, you get a shrunken hitbox -- no more worrying about workplace safety hazards as long as you protect the gem! -- you get a weirdly specific personal magic that varies in effectiveness from Konomi's baton pass to Iroha's localized time reversal, and even if you don't get something useful you still have a magical weapon that you can spawn on command. That's even before we get into the existence of Coordinators, and the logical applications of their Adjustment magic in gender-affirming care. To be quite honest, if Kyubey ever had reason to approach me, my wish would probably just straight-up be "immediately megucify every human who exists right now and every human who will ever exist in the future regardless of energy cost."
I'm scared of the new Magia Exedra mobage's existence because (1) it's very prominently advertised as being Quintet-centric and I'm sick and tired of the Quintet, and (2) there's a nonzero chance it will take resources away from Magia Record to focus instead on what seems, if the credits on the website are to be believed, to be a shitty autobattler. MagiReco is the best thing the Puella Magi Series has ever done and I want it to survive well past its tenth anniversary.
šŸ”„ RenaRuki:
Okay, seriously, did the entire Tamers fandom collectively forget that, past a certain part of the D-Reaper arc, none of the Primary Colors are actually human anymore? Because it feels like I'm the only one who's acknowledging this, despite the fact that "Ruki, alienated from humanity, voluntarily gives it up, while Renamon, aligned with humanity, is a trans woman" seems like a pretty obvious thread to work with, and being turned into a digital life-form offers plenty of opportunities for neat body horror, not even to mention how this affects the ways in which Ruki's Candy timeline counterpart has steadily been getting worse for two decades.
[Side note: I really need better names for the "more canon" movie timeline that's relevant, essential and true, and the "less canon" drama CD timeline that isn't. If I keep calling them Meat and Candy I'm going to get weird looks from the non-Homestucks.]
I swear I had more observations I was going to put here but I got sidetracked. Might add on a reblog later.

Weekly Roundup: prompts
Mahoyo
Soujuuro, Aoko and Alice and pet play. Like he has a collar. Cmon.
Tsukihime
Where can I get some Nrvnqsr/Roa content?
FSN
Smut, On Today's Menu: a meal Shirou made, unknowingly containing that sex pollen plant. Consequently, all the 5th Holy Grail War ladies fuck, right in front of his salad.
Fate/Extra
nrt, Robin Hood cucks Tamamo in the Extella setting, specifically with Male Hakuno
FGO
turns out that guda isn't very versed in history and myth, despite the staff's efforts to educate them. so when enkidu opens up to them and how they miss their "king of heroes" guda comes to the logical conclusion that enkidu must want to fuck gaogaigar. they then invite enkidu to start binging a lot of mecha anime, and enkidu is confused but appreciates it
Guda die as virgin so when they got summon as servant, they decide to lose it. Why get laid is so hard!? (Comedy. A lot cockblock)
Smut, incest, Gudako really wants to rail Gudao. But it's wrong: they're siblings after all! Plus she's sure he's already getting some from others. So why can't she indulge in the very close looking Charlemagne, hm?
The new Elizabeth halloween form is revealed! Ignore how she looks suspiciously like Carmilla, and how a familiar shrill scream can be heard coming from a locked closet.
Euryale and Stheno are twins who basically do everything together, to the point where they refer to each other as "myself" in their voice lines. But I'd like to see something where Euryale, having grown from befriending Asterios, starts being more and more hesitant in following her sister in the Medusa bullying... until it explodes into Euryale and Stheno outright fighting. Stheno stayed the same, but Euryale didn't, and so they can't see eye to eye anymore.
Would love a fic (or anything else idc) exploring Euryale being so kind to Asterios because she sees her monster of a sister in him, and if she couldn'y help her sister then at least she can help this one guy.
David decides to court Barghest, in hopes of getting over his fears of taller women. Things go surprisingly well- until Barg’s urges to eat her lover start to kick in, and David starts looking like a snack (literally).
Smut, Raikou finds her dear sweet master peeping on her in the tub. Tsk tsk tsk. Naughty boy~ Seems like Mama Raikou has to teach her master a lesson he’ll never forget.
Smut, After a long day fighting in the Grail War; Yu Mei-Ren learns the wonders of polyamory, her ā€˜master’ learns the wonders of feet, and both learn about their own feelings. Maybe.
Krishtaria and yu-senpai meet in the afterlife and bond over their respective horse boyfriends (and their horse cocks)
gudako allows the support servants to have a break. Just as all of the support servants FINALLY rejoice, something bad happens. Bonus if the bad thing that happens is caused by either gudako or chen gong
The twelve paladins of Charlemagne (really three of them) have a quest…! To find Roland’s missing clothes before a special event because Roland had stripped and is now running around Chaldea butt ass naked!
Smut, Can we get some cock worship for Morgan? With either Mash, Mordred, or Baobhan giving her head.
Gore, Guda offers themselves up as sacrifices to the Aztec god of their choosing leading to some very gory fun
Any fandom
Might i humbly request some Lingerie admiration? Im not too picky on who, but I've only played FGO so that be preferable.
The all-swimsuit-servant holy grail war. Preferably with the viewpoint Master slowly figuring out that for some reason every single summoned Servant has a literal actual swimsuit as their battle attire.
Crossover
Illya summons Servant Berserker Kazuma Kiryu and wins the grail war because Tiger Drop negates all damage. Un/fortunately for them, Kiryu's a Yakuza protagonist leading to both wacky hijinks and heartbreaking moments.
Samurai Remnants
With her husband now in Chaldea, Tomoe decides to show him her new hobby of video games. But, while she gets into explaining and playing it, Yoshinaka decides to take up his favorite hobby and makes sweet sweet love. Bonus if Tomoe doesn't stop infodumping during it

If there were to be a visual novel fleshing out Tamers 2018 into a full story, with Ruki as the protagonist for obvious reasons, how many routes would you prefer it to have?
If you've never played a visual novel before, a route is a single coherent branch of story. A route may have multiple endings but the body of the plot must remain the same.
For reference, FSN and FMDM have three, Tsukihime has five, and Umineko and Mahoyo have one.
Uffff, this is quite a hard question for me; mostly because I don't really want to see new Tamers content and for it to become the next "adventure nostalgia sells" or a new "tri." (overall if K*naka is involved in any way) but oh well, that ain't stopping us fans from doing "fan stuff" right? So, if we ignore my complex feelings over new Tamers content, I can freely think on things :3
As someone who is obsessed with Digimon Survive, I find the 4 routes formula to be neat (plus the bad end which is just "game over" so, that makes it 5?) but I would also love to have at least 2 extra routes (for survive, I would love to see a different kid getting killed by part 5) so, following my taste in plots I think 5 routes would be ok, considering I don't really know what kind of trouble/adventure we could get.
BUT, since we are already here, I'd like to indeed take the 2018 CD drama in consideration and for the story to be about Ruki going to look for Renamon and maybe unveil the mystery behind Takato's disappearance plus, for the sake of "evolution" progress and fights, we could have Renamon soon in the story just to find there are awful things going on in the Digital World and only Ruki can save them all, how about that? (And since I'm gay af, let me have the prologue with Ruki comforting Juri over Takato's absence).
Look, I'm just making this up as I'm typing here so take it with a grain of salt (in if I can make content about this or nah xD).
The Good True end would be saving Takato and the Digital World plus having a convenient gate for the Digis to live happily with their tamers again (like Adv02).
The Good end would be saving Takato and the Digital World but they have to say bye again to their Digis to have angst (ąø‡ ąø·ā–æ ąø·)ąø§
The Neutral end would be Saving the Digital World but Takato (or Renamon) dies :3c
The Alright end would be saving Takato (and Renamon) but dissaster falls upon the Digital World and later, the Real World, idk
And the Bad end is everyone dies, even Ruki XDD. Ok, maybe no but it would be interesting if everyone but Ruki is saved like, Ruki dies saving everyone.
Plus, if we follow Survive formula, we can have the option of the bad end in which Ruki decides saving the world is too much of a pain and goes back home without Renamon, ending in everyone dying anyway :3.
Don't ask me about what kind of enemy they would be fighting because my Royal Knights, Yggdrasil and Olympus XII biases would play a heavy role here so I don't want to think on anything right now, but it would be interesting to be something like in X-evolution in which Digis are killed either by the RK or the X program (but to not go with my biases, we will have to think on something else instead of the RK, Yggdrasil and X antibody).
Maybe we can have the rest of the Tamers cast to join in later in the story so we don't ignore them (ąø‡ ąø·ā–æ ąø·)ąø§
And since I already drew a fakemon evo for Miyuki's Sakuyamon, it would be neat for Ruki to have that one too :D
Ok, this was actually fun to think! Thank you Anon-san uwu
So guys, who or what would you want to see as enemy for Ruki and Renamon? I would also like a little "wink" at IceDevimon returning (and don't tell me that's impossible because Guilmon ate him because I know) but I don't want him to be that final boss.
Now, let me promo my adult Ruki stuff for people who are new or didn't knew I had a separete art blog ;3 (everything is SFW so, don't worry).

All this talk about the fate series you’ve engaged in has piqued my interest. If I were to dive into the series with no knowledge about it whatsoever, where would you recommend I start? I’m a huge mythology fan, so I’m sure I’d just eat it up. Speaking of which, I learned a bit about the legend of Cu Chulainn that makes me especially interested in him. In the original Celtic folktale, he goes to Mag Mell (the Celtic afterlife), and meets a priestess named Scathach, who gives him an indestructible spear named Gae Bolg (it’s Gaelic for ā€œbelly dartā€). The spear is so heavily barbed that when it’s shoved into a creature, he only way to remove it is to use a bladed weapon of some sort to literally carve it out of them. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it’s also poisoned. Celtic folklore is wild.
Oh boy...
Gonna tag @avalonblue12 since he helped me out with Fate a bit in the beginning.
So...I'm going to offer two quick suggestions and expand on why this question has haunted this fanbase for so long.
If you want to get into Fate the purest (and best in my opinion) way possible, try this guy's Let's Play of the first route of the visual novel (THE HOLY GRAIL WAR - Fate/stay night - 1 [Prologue] - YouTube) Or this one if you don't like commentary (Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel Fate Route Day 1 Part 1 (No Commentary)(English) - YouTube) Be warned, the visual novel does not have voiced narratin and is in Japanese.
If you don't care about spoilers or such, try Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works by ufotable.
But in truth, you can start just about anywhere that isn't Hollow Atraxia, Fate/Extra: Last Encore or Fate/Extella because many entries assume you don't know the basics and these are direct sequels.
I suggested those above because they pertain to the original Fate/Stay Night, whose influence is felt throughout the whole franchise.
(More below)
So...why is this question such a hard one to answer for Fate fans?
Well, Fate is an infamously dense series that has a lot of interconnecting elements and ideas along with a deep magic system. Meaning that you can get the general idea easily...but things are so much better when you have knowledge of the series. For example, a certain character in Fate Apocrypha (a spin off) is rather compelling and engaging but with knowledge of one of the heroines in FSN, it adds another layer to her character.
So, I would recommend getting in through the Visual Novel somehow...but the visual novel is a huge time commitment and it might not be to your tastes. So you'd think there would be an anime or something to watch right?
Well, there is...with two problems.
1- Ufotable has only adapted Heaven's Feel and Unlimited Blade Works, the third and second routes. Fate, the first route which acts as the primer as well, only has an adaptation by Studio DEEN and it's kind of divisive.
and 2- The animes all have one issue- They don't have the inner monologue of Shirou, the protagonist. This is important because a lot of what is needed to understand Shirou is IN his monologues. Without them, it becomes very easy to misunderstand Shirou. To the point that the divide around him is basically between those who have and haven't read the original VN.
So while you can get in however you want and it is VERY MUCH worth the investment- getting the best introduction is hard.
"Well, how did you get into Fate?"
The doujins.
... No, really. I found some FGO doujins (ironically enough, based on Fate's Scathach) and I got interested in the series so I kind of just...flailed around until I ended up on the other end of the series. I still don't know how it happened.
If you're still reading this, even if I turned you off- I'd like to say what I think is Fate's greatest strength. And I believe that it's Nasu's writing. Or rather, the bittersweet way he writes. It really pulls on the heartstrings while making you feel satisfied by the journey.
I really do hope you try it out, as I can't recommend it enough.

Fanfiction Year in Review Meme
Figure I'd do something different for 2021. Hopefully I can remember what I did this year. Technically I'm supposed to be tagged and tag someone else, but alas I got no one to tag
What is your total word count for the year?
I made a lot of WIPs that I'm sure counted for a lot of words, but in terms of actual posting via AO3 I calculated that my post word count is just a little over 19k.
What fandoms did you write in this year?
A lot of Obey Me as well as Pokemon SwSh (for a zine piece), ITSV/Venom, Fate (obviously), a tiny thing for Godzilla S.P., and Jojo (both fic update and zine piece). I've been messing around with a few crossover ideas for Obey Me, one included a tokusatsu/superhero au (think Ultraman, maybe?) and another that included nightmare on elm street. I'm confident to post at least the first chapter(?) of the NoES.
I, uh, got into horror movies these year...mostly slashers set in the DbD universe despite never playing it. Maybe that's how I got that Nightmare idea? Idk. Maybe because Dead Meat remade their Friday the 13th kill counts this year I grew fond of Jason. Let's see if I can churn out something I like. Oh! I also began drafting an idea for a Jujutsu Kaisen/Chainsaw Man idea that's both reader insert and...smut. It might be a while before that comes out.
Did you write more, less, or roughly about what you expected?
I'm surprised I wrote a lot this year. I managed to bring out my first long fic out of temporary stasis and if it wasn't for my shitty ass job wasting most of my time and the fact I don't have access to my go to writing place (aka my college library, which is far away), I'd have more chapters of that.
But my ITSV/Venom fic requires less brain cells as it's honestly good dumb fun. People have been really enjoying it and vocalize how excited they are for the next chapter. Oooh, I have such big plans but not enough time for that fic.
What’s your own favorite story of this year?
Friends Like You and Us, definitely. As I mentioned, it's good dumb fun for everyone involved. It mashed my two favorite hyperfixations together as my love for MCU practically diminishes. But I always had a soft spot for Spider-Man and Venom so they can stay for as long as they like.
What is your most underappreciated story of the year?
I Think My Sister is Up to Something. Despite all the enabling and feedback from my friends when I was throwing around ideas, I don't really get that much engagement and I'm really sad about that. Having Rin did silly hijinks, revealing the reroll roster chapter by chapter, dropping clues as to who or what Sakura is with...I'm essentially talking to a wall as I am every day. I did, however, commission something to draw Suzuka in the FSN school uniform, so I'm taking that as a W
What’s your most appreciated story of 2021?
In terms of fan engagement outside of ITSV/Venom, definitely, You're My Dad! Boogie Woogie Woogie! Probably because of the Diavolo simps lol. I do have a Type(tm) and Diavolo definitely is that, and yet I made a 180 turn and projected my ideals onto him. Whoopsie. But hey, if the other OM stans enjoyed it than it worked out just fine.
Biggest fanfic related disappointment of 2021?
I Think My Sister is Up To Something. For obvious reasons. Maybe my SwSh zine piece for lack of engagement as well.
Biggest fanfic related surprise of 2021?
Definitely the Diavolo fic since I got a notification that someone put it in their private collection of Feel Good fics when they're down. That warmed my heart.
Something you are looking forward to working on in 2022?
Doing more writing, doing more posting, maybe start doing headcanons again. I hope in the future I can get accepted into more zines as a writer, maybe even a guest writer. I also want to do a fic collab with a friend, it's been a long time since I've done that kind of thing. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll remember to participate in NaNoWriMo

It all started with the visual novel, which I got a headache trying to download, so I'd pass on that one. But the important thing is that it had three routes: Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. So, ideally, you'd get the anime experience of each route in order. Problem is, the last attempt at an anime adaptation of the Fate route was by Studio Deen in 2006 and I've been told it doesn't capture the route that well, attempting to mix in other routes.
So right now, your best start is Unlimited Blade Works, which was adapted by Ufotable in 2014.
After that, you could go with Heaven's Feel, of which, Ufotable recently released its final film of the three-film adaptation... in Japan. It will take a while to get here outside of fansubs, but the animation is so heavy that you might be let down by the other anime in this series after watching it (and also every other anime), so putting it off is fine.
Next is Fate/Zero, the prequel to Fate/Stay Night. It spoils a lot about FSN, though, so do FSN first, then Zero.
After that, it's whatever you want.
/Apocrypha is nice, /Extra: Last Encore is bad unless you've played /Extra, and /Kaleid Liner is... weird.
Also, /Zero has a spin-off about one of its characters, called Lord El-Melloi II.
That's about it. Sorry if this is long, and I hope it helps.
I want to watch the fate series but it’s... confusing to say the least. Should I start with fate/zero or fate/stay night?? Is it better in release order or chronological? I’ve heard about a million different things and I have no idea how to get into it

hey, i'm new to the fate games and it all looks really confusing.. could you please tell me the release order of the games? (or if you have a better order that's great too) i'd really appreciate it :v thank you..!
hello!! haha yeah i’m not surprised you’re confused... tbh i started from fate/extra then i checked fate/stay night vn, after that it was fate/zero anime aaand fate/hollow ataraxia was last. i also finished playing fate/extella recently and i’m playing f/go atm.Ā
i think the best it would be just start from the main story so just Ā check fsn unlimited blade works by ufotable to see if you’re gonna like the story or not (it’s not a perfect adaptation but still it’s a pretty good start if you don’t want to start with vn because IT’S VERY LONG) if you like it you can check a prequel to it called fate/zero also by ufotable aaand if you really get into it then you should check f/sn and f/hollowa ataraxia vns.
the rest of fate series are up to you in what order you want to play/read/whatever them. i actually haven’t checked apocrypha, prototype and probably something else
OH AND STAY AWAY FROM ILLYA PRISMA it’s bad... really bad
