Countess Dracula
In Countess Dracula we have the tale of a lonely old woman who discovers that she can make herself young again, just so long as she doesn’t mind having to murder somebody to do it (she doesn’t).  Our antiheroine uses this newfound youth to seduce the least interesting man in the movie, until at last her misdeeds catch up with her when her latest victim turns out to have been the wrong demographic to make the magic work.
Does that sound familiar?  Yeah, this is a very Leech-Woman-y movie.  It stars Nigel Green, the news announcer from Gorgo, and comes to us from Hammer Studios, home of Moon Zero-Two.  The director, Peter Sasdy, never made anything that wound up on MST3K but he did work on the legendary Pia Zadora bomb, The Lonely Lady.  Countess Dracula is not a wild ride, as its pace is fairly sedate, but it is certainly a ride nonetheless.
The count of somewhere or other has just died, leaving his realm to his nineteen-year-old daughter Ilona – and technically also leaving his spiteful widow, Elizabeth, free to marry her longtime lover Captain Dobi.  Most people would consider this a perfectly acceptable retirement, but Elizabeth is impossible to satisfy.  She doesn’t want to grow old while Ilona (currently on her way home from finishing school in Vienna) rules the county and gets all the attention.  When Elizabeth discovers that bathing in the blood of virgins restores her youth, she embraces murder as a hobby and has Ilona locked up so she can stay in charge while posing as her own daughter!  In that guise she sets out to pursue handsome young Imre, the son of her husband’s most trusted general, while jealous Dobi can only sit and seethe.
Tumblr media
I bet you think you can guess how this movie ends.  I bet you think Dobi tells Imre the countess’ secret, and the two of them defeat her.  Or else the real Ilona escapes and meets him, they expose Elizabeth as a fraud, and then get married and rule the land with justice and mercy or something.  That’s what would happen in a normal movie… but you guys know I don’t watch normal movies.  Maybe instead you’re guessing that nobody does shit and Elizabeth just carries on her merry way until she’d destroyed by her own hubris?  That’s more like it.
Not all of Hammer’s films were good, but they were generally pretty well-made and Countess Dracula is not an exception.  The elaborate costumes and sets are very nice, although areas like the town square are obviously artificial and the old lady makeup on Ingrid Pitt as Elizabeth is pretty bad.  There’s also a young woman made up in very ugly brownface as a ‘gypsy girl’, except they totally forgot to do any makeup on her for the scene where her naked corpse is discovered in the woods.
There are even a couple really well-done moments of storytelling and worldbuilding.  A scene in a pub, when everybody falls silent as Dobi and Imre enter, shows eloquently how terrified the peasants are of the aristocracy. Elizabeth gets some chilling bits when we see the true depth of her depravity.  She sees no difference between controlling people through love and controlling them through fear – either way, she gets what she wants, and their feelings don’t matter.  My favourite detail is the subtle cultural conflict going on in the background, as the characters speak disparagingly of ‘Turks’ and yet have clearly picked up some bits and pieces of Ottoman culture.
Tumblr media
Although its plot outline is very similar to The Leech Woman, the philosophy of Countess Dracula is completely different.  The Leech Woman didn’t really give June a viable alternative to her poisoned fountain of youth.  Old women in its world can only sit around and drink and know that nobody loves them. Elizabeth, however, has a possible future – Dobi repeatedly notes that he’s been waiting twenty years for the opportunity to legitimatize his relationship with her.  He would have happily devoted himself to her for the rest of his life, and the two of them could have lived in retirement while Imre and Ilona gave them grandchildren to spoil.  Dobi even says there is dignity in age, directly contradicting The Leech Woman by applying it equally to both sexes.  June was more or less forced to become a monster, while Elizabeth chooses it explicitly.
So there’s honestly some pretty good stuff in this film.  Where it unfortunately falls on its face is with the characters, none of whom can really be said to have an arc, and the ending, which is rushed and unsatisfying.
The movie’s main focus is always on Elizabeth, but she refuses to grow or learn anything at any point.  She starts off as a nasty, selfish bitch and just stays a nasty, selfish bitch.  She has no actual master plan, but seems convinced that she can keep up this charade indefinitely, even though Dobi points out the impracticality of that.  Dobi believes she’s going mad, but the truth seems to be she’s just horrible.  She is evidently terrified of growing old, but that is never explored.  We see her react to aging, rather violently at times, but we never find out what the root of this fear is.
Tumblr media
All this means that Elizabeth, despite being the focal character, is never sympathetic.  June in The Leech Woman at least started off as somebody we could pity, before she descended into depravity.  Elizabeth is a terrible person from the get-go, as illustrated in the very opening when she has her coachman run over a peasant who wants her to fulfill a promise her late husband made her.
Imre and Ilona are pretty much complete ciphers. Imre spends the entire movie in Elizabeth’s thrall one way or another.  He is madly in love with her in her guise as Ilona, and after finding out the truth he’s too scared of her to openly defy her.  The only personality trait he manifests is gullible foolishness, and any sympathy we might have had for him evaporates when he cheerfully kisses a barmaid’s tit on the same day when he’s proposed marriage to the woman he believes is his true love.  Ilona spends most of the movie locked up in some mute peasant’s hut doing not much. When she finally enters the story properly, she comes across as stunningly stupid.
The character who does the most to try to thwart Elizabeth is her lover Dobi, but he’s less interested in stopping her from killing virgins than he is in having her to himself.  He gets Imre drunk and tosses him in bed with the barmaid in the hope that Elizabeth will reject him, and later takes Imre to see Elizabeth bathing in blood to youthen herself.  These things don’t work, partly because Imre is an idiot and partly because Elizabeth is always more evil than he thought she was, but at least he tries.
At the end of the movie, Elizabeth’s latest bloodbath wears off in the middle of her wedding to Imre, and she runs off to murder Ilona in order to make herself young again.  Imre tries to stop her and gets stabbed for his trouble, which does at least expose Elizabeth’s evildoing to one and all, and she and Dobi are hanged. What happens to Ilona I’m not sure, but I know they didn’t have therapists in the seventeenth century.  Nobody wins here.  It’s a downer for everybody, including the superstitious peasants, who will continue to be terrified of their rulers now that their worst fears have been confirmed.
Several things might be made of the fact that it’s young women Elizabeth is killing.  It’s interesting to note that the idea of male virginity is never even brought up.  We could contrast two depictions of motherhood, in the form of Elizabeth’s jealousy of Ilona versus Juli the nurse’s unconditional love for her.  There’s Imre’s description of ‘Ilona’ as embodying all aspects of womanhood, to which Dobi replies that no woman can be maiden, mother, and whore all at once… yet that is just what Elizabeth is trying to be.  What I find interesting in this, however, is how the movie depicts Elizabeth’s own internalized misogyny, in the fucked-up attitudes she displays towards youth, beauty, and gender.
Elizabeth feels that age and experience have made her undesirable.  Dobi assures her that he finds her as attractive as he ever did, but she evidently does not believe him, and her mistreatment of her female servants has a definite note of jealousy in it.  She kills young virgins not only to gain their desirability, but because she hates them for what they have and she does not.
Tumblr media
What’s unusual is that she applies this same attitude towards the men in her life.  Elizabeth is no longer attracted to Dobi, because he is old and experienced. Their affair has gone on for years, and in Dobi’s mind this has only deepened his love for her – but Elizabeth is tired of it and wants something new.  Imre is young, handsome, and innocent.  He has no wealth of his own and has not yet really accomplished much in life, but Elizabeth doesn’t care.  If all she has to be is young and pretty, then how could she ask anything more of him?
Here, Dobi and Elizabeth represent two different versions of gender equality as it applies to sexual attractiveness, with him raising Elizabeth to his level, and her lowering Dobi and Imre to hers!  Elizabeth treating the men in her life as she has been treated illustrates the inequality quite sharply, but what ultimately destroys her is applying the same standards to herself.  She believes so totally that nothing else matters as long as she is beautiful that she doesn’t care what she has to do to accomplish it, or who sees her do it.  In the end, she is undone by her own self-loathing.

Two months later…
“Rules, punk.” Mark circles Jared like his prey, smirking as he can watch Jared’s hand shake. “If you ever even try to hurt our sister, you are dead meat.”
“The reason you made it into the house alive is Y/N and her alone. If you want to make it out of the house alive, you better listen to what we have to say.” Caleb nods at Brad who is not amused about Jared’s presence.
“Y/N got hurt before, you added to her pain, even ripped old wounds open. According to her, you are doing better, but if you ever dare to say a wrong word, dare to look at another girl…” Pursing his lips Brad points toward the baseball bat in Mark’s hands.
“I get it. First, thank you for inviting me to your lovely home.” Jared stammers while you smile to yourself. “Then I want to thank you for being there for Y/N after I messed up everything.”
“We don’t need your appreciation, asshole. Y/N is our baby sister. Of course, we are there for her.” Mark grunts. “We don’t need Jared Padafucky to tell us so.”
Laughing you lean against the doorframe, not stepping in as promised. Before you agreed Jared can meet your brothers, you told him he must ‘survive’ their wrath.
“That’s not what I want to say…” Stammering get’s a piece of paper out. “I…I am sorry. I hurt Y/N out of selfishness and as I was too chicken to admit my feelings. I promise - no swear to worship the ground she’s walking from now on.”
Mark narrows his eyes, brushing the baseball bat over Jared’s nose. “If you dare to touch her, you are dog food.”
“Mark…” Sighing you step closer, but Jared shakes his head. “I’ve got this, Y/N. He is right. I lost the privilege to touch or kiss you. Maybe I shouldn’t be allowed to be in the same room.”
“Damn right, Padafucky,” Caleb mutters as Brad points toward you. “If you ever dare to do her wrong again, you won’t survive, that’s for sure. Y/N decided to help you even though you are not worth the dirt under her shoes.”
“I know…” Shuffling on his feet Jared listens to all the insults, calling names and threats. He doesn’t respond, only looks at you the whole time and a shy smile appears on his lips. “I want to make her happy…”
“Gosh, sis. Is he stupid or deaf?” Mark groans as you finally step in to take Jared’s hand in yours, interlacing your fingers.
“That’s enough, boys. I love you but Jared came here to make the first step of many to do redemption. Now we all will hug each other and promise to not yell again.” Giggling you peck Mark’s cheek. “I was just kidding, big brother. I know you mean well.”
“If he wants to be a part of your life, he has to earn it. I still do not trust that bastard.” Swinging the baseball bat in front of Jared your brother smirks. “One false step, Jared.”
“He will behave. Now stop threatening him. We have somewhere else to be in an hour. Just make sure you will have the barbecue ready when we are back.” Giving Caleb a wink you grab Jared’s hand to lead him out of the living room.
“That punk won’t get meat!” Mark calls after you. “Only a bun!”
“And a salad!” Brad chuckles.
Tumblr media
“This must be odd to you, Y/N.” Jared’s therapist starts, eying you suspiciously. “I heard from Jared you want to forgive him.”
“What must be odd? Being here with Jared after what happened or being at the practice of a therapist?”
“The later, Y/N.”
“Well…” Placing your hand onto Jared’s thigh you straighten your back.
“I was at a therapist practice before. I even went to therapy after my ex-boyfriends raped and almost killed me. He killed my baby and I felt responsible for his doings.” Jaw going slack about your boldness Jared’s therapist needs a moment to compose herself.
“Y/N,” Jared whispers as his hand presses yours gently. “You didn’t have to tell her. I know this is…”
“Jared, that was years ago, and I moved on. I had time to overthink my life and realized if I want to be able to have a healthy relationship with anyone, I have to leave the things dragging me down behind.” Meeting Jared’s eyes you give him a cracked smile.
“Baby…I…I don’t know what to say but if you want to get rid of me too, I will understand.” Jared’s voice is hoarse, and you can hear the tears behind his words.
“Jared, I am here at your therapist’s practice.” Patting his thigh, you huff. “This means I try to move on…with you.”
“With me…” Gasping Jared gives you a shy smile. “Did you heat that doc? She wants to move on with me.”
“Y/N, I know this is Jared’s session but do you want to tell us more about your plans and what happened back then?” Clearing her throat she looks at you, asking you for permission and you nod silently.
“When I woke in the hospital I was confused at first but then everything came back, crushing me. While the doctor talked about trauma, therapy and that I lost my baby I felt like I was under water.” Sniffling you look at your hands. “She told me the damage was…serious.”
“I am sorry, Y/N…” Doctor Harold whispers, knowing what you imply. “Is there a chance?”
“30 percent the doctor said and everyone else said the same. I probably never will be able to conceive a child due to the damage Scott did.” Jared’s hand starts to shake as he grasps for yours to kiss it softly.
“Y/N, thank you for being honest. Can we talk some more?” Nodding you squeeze your eyes shut, taking a deep breath. “Good. What happened to Scott?”
“I never talked about this part. You need to know, everything I am going to tell you is only a story, not what happened…” Smirking you meet her eyes and she nods.
“Maybe three tall and strong men called a few friends and maybe one of them brought Scott to these men.”
“Is Scott still alive? Did he get punished for his crimes?” Stammering the therapist searches your face and you nod.
“He is, and he got punished. Let’s say those men had some time alone with Scott. Let’s say they broke a few bones and more before calling the police.” Now your eyes darken.
“Let’s say the friend bringing Scott to those men works at a prison and let slip that Scott likes to rape women and kill babies…”
Tumblr media
“You don’t have to come with me, Jared.” Glancing at Jared gripping the steering wheel tight enough to turn his knuckles white you take a deep breath. “I have to face him one last time. I need to close this chapter of my life.”
“I won’t leave you alone with that monster. He hurt my girl, he…” Choking on his words Jared blinks the tears away. “That man did horrible things to you and I need to make sure you are not alone this time.”
“Jared…”
“I was an idiot, Y/N. If I could turn back time, I would do so but now I can be there for you and I will. Let’s go in there and show that bastard you moved on.” Jared’s voice is lower now and you can hear the anger. “I will not turn evil again.”
Jared saw the fear as you heard his tone change. “You need to understand that I still can’t trust you completely, Jared. What you did hurt me deeply and I will need more time to give you access to my heart again.”
“All I am asking for is a chance, Y/N. If you decide you can’t give me that, I’ll accept your decision and we can try to become friends.” His hand gently strokes your cheek and you lean into his touch.
“I’ve missed your devilish side for sure…” Laughing you press your lips against Jared’s and he cups your face to hold you in place. “Maybe we can go back to me being a brat and you nagging. I’d like to be your bad girl…”
“OH, you like my asshole side?” Smirking Jared pecks your lips. “I am still a dom, Y/N…”
“I know you are, Baby.” Sighing you fist his shirt. “Shame you didn’t show me your inner dom that night. That was a dick move for sure.”
“Baby, I’ll show you everything you want me to one day.” Kissing Jared one last time you want to get out of the car, but he stops you. “Was he a dom too?”
Flustered you nod, biting your lip. “During college, I discovered I like to be a sub, a bratty one. My boyfriend didn’t understand, and we only did vanilla stuff. With Scott…”
“You could let this side out…” Sniffling you pat Jared’s cheek. “I assume he wasn’t a good dom?”
“At first I thought his tendency to find a reason to spank me, to punish me is just his dominant side but when my butt started to bleed, when I had bruises and bloody bite marks I knew this has nothing to do with a fetish. It was him hurting me on purpose.”
Shifting in your seat you look at the prison. “I used my safeword one time and he slapped my face hard enough to bruise. Later he said I was a brat, but I knew it was a lie. After that night…”
“I get it. He wanted to hide he’s an abusive asshole. BDSM has nothing to do with abuse. Abuse is abuse. BDSM is consensual and never abusive. You use your safe word; I stop and do aftercare.” Jared mumbles, balling his hands into fists. “I swear I will kill him.”
Tumblr media
The walk toward the room is incredibly uncomfortable even though Jared is holding your hand, squeezing it gently as the guard opens the door.
Angry eyes glare at you and there’s no doubt, Scott didn’t learn his lesson. Instead of showing regret or to apologize he snarls your name.
“Did the whore find a new idiot to bear her shit?” Scott spats as Jared squares his jaw. “I bet she’s not as good in bed as before…”
“I swear if the guard wouldn’t be in the same room, I would rip you apart.” Jared is panting heavily. His eyes are at least three shades darker and you can see the ‘devil’ shine through again.
“She’s mine, my good girl and I can tell…” Smirking Jared places his hands onto the table. “I enjoy having her in any way possible and the best is…”
“What is the best, asshole?”
“She’s going to have my baby…” Rubbing your belly Jared lies straight to Scott's face and enjoys the struggle all over the man’s face. “You didn’t destroy her. If anything, you made her stronger and now she can be as bratty as she wants to be.”
“YOU!” Jumping up Scott struggles against the chains holding him. “I will kill you!”
“No, you won’t.” Face stoic, eyes hard you look at Scott. “Tiny, pitiful man.” Smirking you enjoy the gasp leaving Scott's lips. “We are done here, Jared. I want to go home…”
“You won’t get away! Next time I will slit your throat!” Cursing and yelling Scott wants to attack you but the guards hold him back, smirking as you give Scott a wink.
“Let’s go, Baby Girl. That tiny man wasted enough of your time.” Jared leads you out of the room, wrapping his arms around you the moment the door shuts behind you.
“Breathe, Y/N. I am here, he can’t hurt you again. Look at me.” Panting you look up at Jared, laughing as he tries to calm you. “I love you.”
“You love me…huh?”
“Even the devil can fall in love.” Gently stroking your arms Jared let you rest your head against his chest. “Y/N and we are going to make it through this…together…”
“Together…”

Sander Sides (Psych Ward AU)
"It's great to have a new member of the family here. Few people want to go into this line of work y'know?" Emile said happily and he shook Thomas's hand. "We are gonna have a lot of fun, I just know it!"         "Well, helping people is my thing. Might as well make money doing what I know right?" Thomas replied with a half chuckle.         "You've come to the right place then. You'll be helping people all day long." Emile said. Looking down at his clipboard, he let out an 'oh' sound before looking back up at Thomas with a bright smile. "Follow me, I'll show you to your assignments." He pushed opened the white doors that connected the lobby to the rest of the psychiatric ward. "Did they 'give you the sitch' on how the system here?"           "A bit," Thomas said with a chuckle at the joke. "Nurses work with groups of people to build familiarity right?" Thomas said as he followed the doctor in front of him.           "Right on. Trust is important for these kinds of things you know. We like to think of this place like one big Ohana. And you know what ohana means?" Emile asked, glancing back at Thomas.            "Ohana means family. And family means no one gets left behind," Thomas replied.            "Or forgotten," Emile added. He stopped in front of one of the many doors in the hallway. "Here's the suite. All of your assignments are here. You ready to meet your family?" He asked, hand on the doorknob. With a solid nod from Thomas, Emile twisted the knob, opening the door to what seemed like a living room of sorts. A couch on the right side, a TV set on the left wall with two windows on either side of it, a and a coffee table in the middle of the room. On the back wall were three doors and a staircase leading to another floor.             "Think of it as a dorm. You'll talk to your patients here in the common room. I wouldn't go into their rooms. Even I haven’t jumped in that rabbit hole.” Emile was interrupted by one of the doors opening. The dark blue door opened to reveal a tall man in a black shirt and pants. He wore a blue and black striped necktie holding a book. He wore a pair of black Warber Parker glasses, glaring at Thomas and Emile.
“A new arrival? Our last therapist could barely manage us as it is. I expected better of you.” the man said before walking over to the couch and began reading.                                                                                                                          “Now, Logan we talked about positive observations. And this, “ Emile said, gesturing to Thomas. “ is your new therapist. His name is Thomas.”                            “His name won’t matter in the end, but fine,” the man said, closing his book. He stood up and approached Thomas. “Logan Williams. Your existence is inconsequential.” He extends his hand in greeting, Thomas gladly accepting the offer.                                                                                                                               “Glad to meet you,” Thomas replied. The glare never left Logan’s face as he returned to the couch and opened his book once again just as another one of the doors slammed open.                                                                                                “Picani! I swear you come later and later to our meetups,  you know the others don’t work together if you're not here.” said the man walking out of the red door. He wore a white prince outfit with golden decorations on both the chest and shoulders. A bright red sash draped from his shoulder to his waist. He ran a hand through his short brown locks as he walked toward Emile. “Microsoft Nerd over here doesn’t listen to a word I say, Dad can’t focus on anything long enough to keep a conversation and don’t get me started on the others.”  He sighed before flashing a bright smile. “But now you’re here so you can listen to me.”                                                                                                                                  “Roman, you can’t force yourself into other people’s bubbles, you’ll pop them.” Emile replied, giving a wave of his finger as an extra ‘no’. “I want you to your new therapist, Thomas.” Roman gave a bright smile before turning to Thomas.                                                                                                                              “Amazing! Hopefully, you'll stay a little longer than our last one. I am Really Obviously Muscular And Nice. Or Roman Royals for short.” Roman said with a wink and a bow. Thomas gave a short laugh before returning the bow. As Roman stood back up, he turned to Emile. “So if he’s here, “he began, pointing to Thomas, “does that mean that you won’t be coming back? Because you are the only one who really pays any attention to me.”                                                            “Don’t worry, Ro. I’ll be back at the end of the day. You can just call me Perry the platypus” Emile replied with a bright grin.                                                          “Thank fairy Godmother for that,” Roman replied before turning back to Thomas. “Now then, I bet you want to learn all about me, don’t you? We will be spending a LOT of time together, so you’ll want to know everything. Well, I’ll start from the begin-”                                                                                                                  “No one wants to hear you talk about yourself for an hour straight.” Logan interrupted from the couch, eyes never leaving his book. Roman scoffed at the man on the couch.                                                                                                            “You’re just jealous of my superiority, Book Germ.’ Roman replied as he glared at Logan, but received no response. Roman stomped over to him, arms crossed. “Don’t you know that ignoring royalty is punishable by death?”                           “Just because you wear that ridiculous outfit doesn’t mean that you're actually a prince,” Logan replied, eyes never leaving the book. Roman gave a loud exasperated sigh before turning back to Thomas and Emile. “You see this is why our last guy left us. Calculator Watch over here doesn’t know what kindness is.”                                                                                                                                  “The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. I know what it is, but it isn’t necessary at the moment,” The two continued to go back and forth, Logan’s eyes never leaving his book while Roman seemed to get more enraged by the second. As the two bickered on, the light blue door creaked open. Out walked a young man in a light blue shirt and grey cardigan wrapped around his shoulders, a pair of brown khakis on his legs. Bright eyes beamed through black-rimmed glasses at Thomas and Emile. A gasp escaped his mouth and was replaced by a smile.                                                                                                    “Oh my goodness. It’s a new person!” He cheered, rushing over to Thomas until he was practically right under his nose. “Are you our new therapist? Our last one left in a week. Don’t know why though. Did you know him? He was nice. But he didn’t talk a lot. At least I don’t think-”                                      “Pat. Don’t talk as fast as you type.” Emile said with a chuckle. Pat let out an ‘oh’ before covering his mouth but continued to rock on his heels. “Why don’t you introduce yourself  to your new therapist Thomas?” And remember, slow and steady like a turtle.” Patton responded with excited nods before taking his hand off of his mouth.                                                                                                        “My. Name. Is. Patton. Smith.” Patton said spacing out his words.                         “Thomas Sanders, it's a pleasure to meet y-.” Thomas couldn’t finish his sentence before he was gripped tightly in a hug from Patton, who was laughing joyously.                                                                                                                             “Oh, it feels great to hug someone new! Logan never hugs back and Roman’s hugs all feel the same. Do you like hugs? I love hugs. I wish I could hug everyone in the world!” Roman scoffed at this, turning his attention from Logan to Patton.                                                                                                                  “Pat. I thought you loved my hugs.” he pouted. Patton let out a gasp, letting go of Thomas in exchange for Roman.                                                                    “No, I still love your hugs. Don’t be upset. I still love you buddy” he said while hugging Roman tightly. Emile let out a chuckle as the scene unfolded before putting a hand on Thomas’s shoulder.                                                                      “Well, this is your main group of patients. I bet you’ll all get along just fine. You’ll be the Arthur to their round table!” He said proudly.                                        “One, our table is square, not round. Two, you forgot about the ones upstairs. Virgil won’t be happy about this.” Logan said, peeking out from his book. Emile's smile shrunk at this.                                                                                     “Right. I'm gonna have to tell him.” He turned to Thomas, reluctance painting his expression. “You technically have other patients. You won’t see most of them often, but Virgil has begun to come down for our sessions. In fact,” Emile looked at his watch; 3:45. “He should be coming down around now. We’ve been working on his consistency.” At that, a creaking was heard from the stairwell. Down the stair came a young-looking man in black ripped jeans. He wore a black hooded jacket with various purple plaid patches on the sleeves and back on top of a purple t-shirt. Thomas couldn’t tell if he was wearing eyeliner or had bags under his eyes, the dark patches standing out again the man’s pale skin. His eyes were too focused on the stairs under his feet to notice Thomas at first.                                                                                                                                     “Oh great, My Chemically Imbalanced romance is here.” Roman scowled.                                                                                                                             “I’m just here for the session, Princey. I’ll leave after we finish." said the man coming down the stairs. "What are we working on today, doc?" The man raised his head to look at Emile and froze when he saw Thomas next to him. His grip tightened on the handrail as he closed his eyes, taking a few deep breaths before opening them again. His eyes fell on Thomas once again and he let out a low chuckle. “Doctor, this one’s not going away.”                                                               “Virgil, this is your new therapist, Thomas.” Emile, said, his voice noticeably softer than before. Virgil lowered his eyes to the floor before speaking again.                                                                                                                                 “Y’know, Doc. I came here for help, and all I’ve gotten are people running from me.” His grip on the handrail grew tighter. “He’s going to leave us. And you’re never gonna let us out. We’re going to die here as mistakes, aren’t we doc? ”                                                                                                                                “Virgil, breathe,” Emile said, drawing closer to Virgil, who was visibly shaking at this point. “Those thoughts don’t hold water. Repeat after me, okay?” Emile put a hand on Virgil's arm. “We are here to help you. Nothing bad is going to happen to you.” The two went back and forth, Virgil’s quaking diminishing as they continued. With one last deep breath, the two separated, Virgil calmed and a smile of Emile’s face. Virgil looked past Emile towards Thomas, who offered a small wave.                                                                                                                         “He’s real, right?” Virgil asked quietly, receiving a nod from Emile. He took another breath before walking towards Thomas, stopping about a foot in front of him. “Virgil Para,” he said. Despite the lack of emotion on Virgil’s face, Thomas answered with a bright smile.                                                                                 “Thomas Sanders. I’m happy I get to work with you.”                                             “That’ll change,” Virgil replied before turning and walking towards the staircase, promptly sitting on the two lowest steps. “Are we still doing a session today doc?”                                                                                                                           “That depends on Thomas.” Emile turned back to Thomas. “You wanna see me in action?”                                                                                                                  “It wouldn’t hurt to see an example,” Thomas replied. Emile gave a swift nod before turning back to look at the others.                                                                        “Alright, everyone in their places!” Emile said with a clap of his hands. Patton moved in front of one of the windows, staring out at the sky before turning back to the rest of the group. Logan put down his book and scooted towards the middle of the couch. Roman decided to stand in front of the television, straightening out his suit and fixing his hair in the black screen. Emile pulled Thomas over to the middle of the room, right in front of the coffee table.                             “Ooooo. Doc, do the thing! Do the thing! I love the thing!” Patton said, practically bouncing on his heels.                                                                                          “I don’t know Pat. We’re already kinda late to start…” Emile said, tapping his pencil to his clipboard, a smile creeping on his lips. “If the others would like it, then I don’t see why not.”                                                                                  “Please, please, PLEASE, guys? It’s so fun when he does it.” Patton said, his eyes darting between the others in the group. A sigh escaped from Logan’s lips, a hand running through his hair.                                                                      “If it will bring your whining to a halt, then just do it. The sooner we get started, the sooner it will be over,” he said.                                                                            “Indeed.” Roman added with a dramatic flick of the wrist, then quickly added, “Besides you know I love to do the background harmony.”                                     “It is one of the few constants I have.” Virgil chimed in. The smile on Emile’s face grew, putting his clipboard on the table behind him before stepping out of the front door.                                                                                                             “Prepare for the moment you’ve been waiting for!!”
