Welp. This is a first for me. I used to always want a shot like this…then I forgot…then while taking pics of the thunder storm, I realized that the core of the Milky Way was in view. All it took was a simple zooming out and slight repositioning off my lens and boom! Last Night's Milky Way over El Matador Beach and the famous El Matador Rock in Malibu, CA, on October 23, 2021 at 8:17 PM! I went here with @pxl8photography last night for my last chance at the Milky Way for the 2022 Season. On the horizon are several Ships parked for the night with their bright lights. In spite of all that, we were still able to see and to photograph the Milky Way. My target was a unique framing of the Milky Way containing a plethora of deep space objects, including M8, M20, M16, M17 and M24. I am impressed with how much detail I managed to capture with my astro-modified Canon 6D from my Bortle 5 backyard. PixInsight was very hard at first as I haven't used it during my creative block, but I managed to get there in the end thanks to Galactic Hunter’s awesome Milky Way processing tutorial that is available in Season 2 of the Galactic Course. I suggest checking it out as it contains so much information that I did not know about. I am now waiting for the next clear night to arrive so I can go out and image again from my backyard. Comet NEOWISE flying directly above Stonehenge was by far my favourite shot of 2020. - QUOTING Anthony: Although almost every UK astro photographer now has this shot, it’s still a highlight of 2020 for me. At the time (July 14) I wasn’t too fussed about photographing the comet as I was seeing literally hundreds of images of it everyday. However, when I got to Stonehenge and saw the bright fireball directly over the stones, the excitement set in and I couldn’t get my camera setup quick enough. This was definitely a once in a lifetime shot and glad I made the effort to capture it. A week or so after I took the photograph, comet NEOWISE had broken up, never to be seen again. For some people stars are just bright spots in the sky but for me they mean so much more than that.⠀ ⠀ They are proof that something magnificent lies beyond that endless sky.⠀ ⠀ They are proof that something much more powerful is out there and that really helps me stay humble and be grateful. ⠀ ⠀ They make me believe in things even though I can't see or reach them. It gives me a sense of hope and optimism.⠀ ⠀ I believe that I have a special bond with the Milkyway and I hate it when the clouds break that bond. I think I draw my power from them.⠀ ⠀ I always say, "Aim for the stars and not the sky, that way you will have a destination, all you need to do is find your own path.
