IGCSE
Heyy everyone
So did CIE's IGCSE and *hair flip* got an A* in all my subjects.
So yeah I'm just tryna help. Fr.
Now listen u dont need to get an A* to be happy with ur grades. If those are ur goals then u go girl. If those are not u still go girl.
But my mum always says "Always aim higher than what u can get. Then you will reach the farthest u can go. Now go make another omelette for me."
Now a major thing I would do before an exam is open a candidate response, the qp, the ms and the examiner report.
Do each question, check with the markscheme, check the candidate response and assess where u are and then the examiner report.
I love this so much: https://paper.sc/
Examiner reports are a really underrated resource and are REALLY HELPFUL.
Use the 'IGCSE' reddit and discord server
IGCSE Notes – Soumya Pandey
Here are some of the resources I used and each subject tips
Maths:
Past papers past papers past pAPERS PAST PAPERS PAST PA-
Girl i cant tell u enough
Also makes sure to learn all the calculator tricks including the linear equations one, differentiation (the only ones I can think off the top of my head)
Make sure to practice past papers have good time management. Calm down during the exam. It'll all be fine.
(trust me i went and got bangs cause i was depressed about the way i wrote the exam and here we are)
Sciences:
Use the examiner report tip. Always always use the syllabus of each subject. And ofc past papers

Chem:

Phy:

Business:
Bs is one of the easist subjects cause of the repeated questions and the low thresholds. If there is one subject u wanna chose for fun let it be BS or EVM
EVM:
Smallest syllabus ever
Just do past papers you'll be fine
Ik everyone says that but thats cause its true
The same advice goes to ICT. Like the practicals are the easiest shit u can think of but a big mistake that people do is forget theory.
Study for theory and u get good marks.
English (1st language) :
My fav subject in IGCSE
It was sooo good
Always choose descriptive its just easier to score in
Go read books from good authors like Madelline Miller, Katherine Arden, and Ocean Vuong. Get phrases that u really like and copy them into a word document. Go through it before the exam and use it in the writing
You can also use: https://www.descriptionari.com/

---------
AND THATS ALL
To everyone doing their GCSE's
All the best
Just remember that it isnt everything. Year 10 and 11 is all about finding urself and having the time of ur life. I sure as hell did. And at the end of the day these results dont matter half as much as u think. Its not that they're not important. Its just that there are more important things in the world.
Go live ur best life before the A level train hits.

Hiii can u make a post on study tips and and just like having a healthy relationship with school/ studying?? Thanks !! X
Hii! sure, hope this helps <3
The Golden Guide to... having a better relationship with school!
Shift your mindset
Replace "I have to" with "I get to"
There are so many kids in the world who don't have the opportunity to go to school or even the resources to study in general; it is something that we are privileged to have access to. We are so lucky that we get to go to school, it isn't a burden, its a blessing.
Instead of "Ugh I have have to go to school", think "Yay, get to go to school!"
Instead of "I have to study" think "I get to study"
This uses a phycological concept called "intrinsic VS extrinsic motivation", which explains how people are more inclined to do things that they think is a privilege to do rather than an obligation. So if you start thinking going to school and getting to study is a privilege, you would have a better relationship with it and feel more motivated at the same time!
Set realistic goals
Aim for progress, not perfection
Lets say you got 70% on your math test and you want to bump up your grades. Instead of setting a goal of scoring 95%, aim to get anywhere between 75 and 80%
This is much more realistic and achievable If you aimed for a 95%, it would be highly unlikely for you to achieve in a short period of time + if you didn't reach it, you would have felt bad and your self confidence could lower. You may end up convincing yourself that you are simply bad at school, when in reality, the goal just wasn't achievable. On the other hand, if you aimed for 75-80%, the chance of you scoring that would be very high + seeing that grade on that paper would make you feel like you can do better and your confidence in that subject and your abilities would increase.
Stay organised, but not overwhelmed
Keep yourself on track, but don't overwhelm yourself with to many things
Prioritise tasks
If you have 3 tasks, one which you know you'll spend a lot of time doing + two which would take a short amount of time to complete, do the small tasks first.
This makes sure that you wont get too carried away doing the big task, leaving you with a short and stress inducing amount of time left to do the short ones.If you first do the small tasks, it wont take you too long, leaving you with a good amount of time & an easy time limit to complete the bigger project!
Use a calendar
Use a calendar to mark the start and due dates of your assignments & the dates of any exams or events
Study Techniques
Use past papers
Just search up "*subject* *topic* *grade/year level* *curriculum* past papers"
e.g. Biology human body IGCSE past papers
2. Pomodoro technique
Study for 25 mins, then take a 5 min break (you can change how long you want to study for and how long you want the breaks to be)
There are pomodoro timers online
3. Active recall
This is good for memorising
Instead of only reading your notes, actively test yourself by recalling information from memory
4. Blurting method
Write down everything you remember, then check your notes and see what you've missed.
5. Feynman technique
Teach the topic as if you were explaining it to a five year old.
6. Spaced repetition
Review your information at increasing intervals
E.g. Review your information on day 1, then day 3, then day 7, etc
my tips!
Make note taking fun by using different colours/types of pens
I like using a cute highlighter/marker, a coloured pen and a black pen (but I use a pencil too for math)
Play around with the formatting, until you find one that works best for you - you can do this in class when your taking notes on different topics & pick which one you like best! Don't stress on aesthetics, just go with the flow and do what feels right
This makes note taking much more fun & aesthetically pleasing so your also more inclined to read them
2. Use post its or a small note book to write down your homework
When your teacher is giving you your homework in class, write it down so that you don't forget and check on it when you come back home so you know what work you get to do!
3. Use save my exams to revise and study for your assessments
It's extremely helpful as it has videos, notes and exam questions
It's free (but if you don't have premium, you don't exam questions and you can only read up to 5 notes a week)
It is based on your grade/year level and curriculum
Premium is very affordable - like $5 a month
I hope this helps yall!

HI!!!! so i saw your reblog and i wanted to ask how you manage writing and also studying in uni!!
i'm a highschool sophomore (igcse student) and i have mocks rn and its KILLING ME. like i dont have time to write or the motivation to do so </3
so if you have any advice or tips i'd love to hear them <33
hi there! i guess from your message and my basic knowledge on the british education system you're from the uk, so good luck with your upcoming exams!
and as for you questions on how balancing writing with a university degree, i'd say the key is planning and always listen to yourself and what you need/want to do/feel in the mood to do!
most of the times i try finding some time to write daily, but when I'm too stressed and overwhelmed (as i'm right now) i know i, sadly, need to stop for some time and dedicate my writing time to other stuff, like planning upcoming fics/series or reading, for example (this is what I'm doing right now and in two days i've finished two books)
if you don't feel in the mood to write or don't have time to do it, just let it be and don't feel pressured! i sometimes feel bad because i'm not able to post here, specially all the requests i have, but as much as I'd love to I'm the whole day in front of my computer studying and, specially during these past days, researching and writing part of my final degree tesis/project, which is writing but definitely not a cool one. do i feel bad? yes, but then I remember that my studies come first and I have middle term exams, this project and also I need to get my c2 certification by the end of may/june and that's what comes first of me
maybe this has been a quite too long message, but i hope i helped you somehow! if you wanna know something else, or just want to ask any more questions, PLEASE do them because I'll be willing to help you even I'm not an expert on this writing/studying field :) <3

Using Cooking to Teach Fractions and Measurements in Primary School
In top international schools in Trivandrum and indeed across Kerala, educators always look for ways to make learning interesting and informative. One such fun way time again to teach about fractions and measurements in school is to try cooking! However, by using this approach, children get to touch these mathematical concepts, whilst also gaining vital life skills in a fun and memorable way.
Regardless if you’re a teacher of an international school in Trivandrum or a parent who wants to supplement classroom learning, creating what I like to call a math kitchen can hugely help with the perception of numbers and proportions among children.
What Makes Cooking an Effective Teaching Method?
Young learners sometimes find mathematics, especially fractions and measurements, to be abstract. But I’ve found that when teaching these concepts through real life applications like cooking, they start to make sense. Children understand maths within a real context by pouring half a cup of milk through or cutting a pizza on the half and quarters.
Cooking is also a multisensory enterprise. Working in small groups, children measure, mix, see, smell and taste the results. A hands-on approach allows the learning to be reinforced and attracts various learning styles.
Complying with International Standards for Education
As the majority of the international schools in Kerala (even those in Trivandrum) follow international curriculums like IB, Cambridge or IGCSE the learning is international learning. These standards are cooking lessons' best friends because they require students to think critically, collaborate and integrate across the curriculum — math, science and language skills in a single session.
For example, a simple cookie recipe might include:
Sugar: 1/2 cup (or 4 Tbsp)
3/4 cup will do.
So add 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Children learn from this.
How to compare and convert different measurements.
Fractions as part of a whole
The practical use of addition and subtraction of fractions is emphasized.
Estimation and accuracy are two.
Preparing Fractions: Useful Exercises
Ingredient Measuring
As students measure ingredients, they can actually see what half, third or quarter of a cup looks like.
Fractions that are the same as one another, but in a different form (2 1/4 cups = 1/2 cup).
Adjusting the amount of ingredients for a recipe
Most also compared different fractions in real time.
Classroom Tip: Give sets of measuring cups, encouraging students to try different measurements to get the same amount. It supports the learning of fractions as parts of a whole.
Recipes That Are Doubled or Halved
Doubling a recipe means doubling each ingredient, a fantastic fractional multiplication exercise. Conversely halving a recipe involves some division of fractions. They’re foundational skills in primary mathematics that are devoid of any real meaning. They become intuitive through practical application.
For instance:
1 cup = Double 1/2 cup of milk
That means 3/4 (half) out of a 3/4 teaspoon of salt = 3/8 teaspoon.
Pie and Pizza Calculation
If you can’t do actual cooking, paper models or simply digital cooking simulations are okay. One way to visually and hands-on learn about parts of a whole is to draw or cut a pizza into 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 slices. It also makes an introduction to common denominators and comparing fractions.
Social and Linguistic Skills
It also teaches language and communication skills. In order to follow a recipe you need reading comprehension, sequencing and attention to detail. Cooking in groups teaches students to work in groups, listen and share important skills in international schools in Trivandrum that aim to develop the whole child.
Including Cultural Sensitivity
Top international schools and schools in Trivandrum have a diverse student population and therefore cooking can be used to commemorate and celebrate cultural heritage. Family recipes from a student’s home country can be brought to lessons. As well as building mathematical understanding, inclusion and global awareness, all vital elements of international education.
Security and Monitoring
Hygiene and safety protocols should also be followed strictly, when doing cooking activities. Adult supervision is needed for heat or sharp object tasks and tasks should be age appropriate. A lot of best international schools in Kerala have a kitchen lab dedicated for experiential learning which also ensures the children a safe and wholesome experience.
The "Baking Math Muffins" lesson plan is one example.
Goal
Learn how to use fractions, volume and multiplication in real life.
Level of Grade
Primary (Ages 7–10)
Required Materials
Recipe for muffins with exact measurements.
Measuring cups and spoons.
Baking trays and spoons and mixing bowls.
Pretend oven (or real oven)
Actions to take:
Get the class to review the recipe.
The fractions used will be identified and discussed.
Make the class break up into smaller groups.
Divide the class into small groups, assign each one measuring and combining ingredients.
You can, as you ask students to double or halve the recipe.
Simulate bake or bake.
Did they learn anything they didn’t already know? Were they accurate measurements?
Bringing It Home: Involvement of Parents
The classroom learning is reinforced by encouraging parents to cook with their children at home. In newsletters or an online portal, schools can share simple, child friendly recipes. They also host “Math in the Kitchen” days or days where they workshop with parents in order to create some community engagement.
Trivandrum’s schools are an ideal ground to harness this approach of bringing together traditional Indian recipes and global cuisine for giving a rich education experience.
Conclusion
Cooking is a fantastic, teachable time for primary school children to learn fractions and measurements through an activity that is both interesting and fun. It’s both highly rigorous math and creativity and teamwork and real world relevance all rolled into one. Adopting this approach has proven to be supportive for international schools in Kerala and especially in the education forward cities like Trivandrum to own well rounded, engaging and global education philosophy.
Cooking can take math off the blackboard and into the home or high tech school lab and make it deliciously good for you.

IGCSE Biology Practical Exams: Tips to Ace Your Lab Assessments - Optimus Academy
Biology is a subject that involves real-time observation, experimentation, and an understanding of living things and processes; it exceeds textbooks. The Biology Practical Exam, which assesses practical abilities, accuracy, and scientific reasoning, is a crucial part of the IGCSE curriculum. Reading can help you grasp theory, but a combination of skill, experience, and understanding is needed to succeed in practicals.
Here are some recommendations to help you get top grades and improve your overall grade if you're getting ready for the IGCSE Biology practicals:
1. Recognise the Exam's Format
Typical tasks for the IGCSE Biology practical paper include:
Identification of cells and structures by microscopy
Food tests (such as those for glucose, protein, and starch)
Dissection (simple labelling and observation)
Questions based on experiments (diffusion rates, enzyme activity, etc.)
Recognise the types of experiments
2. Learn the Lab Techniques Thoroughly
Accuracy and knowledge of lab apparatus are essential. You ought to:
Understand how to compute magnification and operate a microscope.
Measure liquids precisely with burettes and pipettes.
Set up the equipment safely and accurately.
Take care when handling biological samples and specimens.
The top IGCSE coaching classes in Mumbai's tutors stress that learning strategies early helps reduce anxiety during the actual exam.
3. Revise Key Concepts with Practical Relevance
Learn how theories are used in the real world rather than merely memorising them. For instance:
Why does temperature affect the activity of enzymes?
How can plant cells use osmosis?
Your ability to analyse and evaluate data improves when you can relate the "why" behind your lab work.
4. Focus on Accuracy and Observational Skills!
In practical exams, ace those marks by nailing,
Accurate measurements
Detailed observations (color changes, texture, reactions!)
Diagrams
Logical procedure descriptions.
Practice clear & concise recording. Observe, don't guess!
5. Practice Drawing Neat, Labeled Diagrams
Diagrams of cells, organs, or experiments might be on the test. Make sure yours have sharp pencils, clean lines, labels (ruler recommended!), a title, and magnification (if needed).
6.Mock Practicals and Feedback are Key!
Simulating practical exams under supervision is a great way to build confidence. The best IGCSE coaching classes in Mumbai often offer mock practicals that mimic real exam conditions, along with feedback on technique, timing, and accuracy. This structured practice can make all the difference in performance.
7.Stay calm and manage your time!
In the exam, read all instructions carefully before starting. Allocate time for each section and leave a few minutes for checking your answers and diagrams. Stay calm! Panic can lead to small but costly mistakes.
The IGCSE Biology practical examination provides a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the application of theoretical knowledge within a practical laboratory environment. Consistent practice, meticulous attention to detail, and expert instruction from leading IGCSE coaching classes in Mumbai will significantly enhance your performance on this critical component of your assessment.
