Caleb's pediatrician

I've been meaning to write a post about this but didn't find the time. I was supposed to get some paperwork filled out for Caleb to be able to get respite services. When I took the former to the clinic, his "Doctor" (and I'm using the term loosely because he's an idiot) was pretty much accessing me of "labeling" Caleb. He was really angry and kept telling me that Caleb wasn't autistic. I was so confused and then he said this, " I have a few patients that are autistic and Caleb does not look autistic to me." I wanted to smack the shut out of him. Then, get this, he asked me to go and get Caleb a DNA test to prove if he's autistic. I was dumbfounded. I asked him if he knew what autism was. I also asked him if my son was supposed to be drooling out of the side of his mouth and be a vegetable in order to qualify to "be autistic" in his eyes. Even the DNA specialist was like that we might not find anything in the DNA test results because they haven't quite figured out why autism happens. For anyone to qualify for Early Intervention they're test scores have to be really low. If Caleb qualified and was diagnosed with autism that means that he showed significant delays and enough evidence to be diagnosed. His doctor made it seem like one day I just woke up and said, "you know what? Caleb has autism." He didn't want to sign the dorm for respite. (FYI respite is when someone like a home attendant comes to your house for a few hours a day and cares for Caleb while I go out and run errands or do chores. Kind of like a free baby sitter.) After I made him feel like an idiot he signed the papers. Guess who's looking for for a new pediatrician? This incident made me so mad. This guy was made me feel like I was an incompetent mother and like I was exaggerating Caleb's diagnosis. He kept saying things like, "my daughter didn't talk until she was three and she's not autistic." Ok? Tf? Did she have sensory issues too? Did she tippy toe walk too? Did she have have a strict diet of things she ate too? My blood was boiling. At the end he said, "I'll sign the paper but I don't want to label him as autistic." I was so mad I said, "you're not labeling him as nothing. He was already diagnosed by EI, all you're doing is writing a prescription for respite services!" This guy blew my mind!!

Yeah racism is still alive. I’ve gotten more racist things said to ME by black people than I’ve seen things said to black people by white. It’s like every time I get out of the damn car in my neighborhood, I hear “hey white girl/bitch” and NEVER would you hear that said to a black girl in a primarily white neighborhood. Racism is getting REVERSED whether black people wanna admit it or not. A black person can say “I hate white people” and no one says anything back to them but the second a white person were to say “I hate black people”, they’re racist. I’ve seen it multiple times on social networks. It’s ridiculous.
