Santa Claus Cup, Budapest
“Small” comps are pretty amazing. It feels kind of more familiar, there are usually more local skaters or skaters from the neighbouring countries (which is even more true now) and you can get surprised by many skaters you’ve maybe never seen before.
And I was totally surprised by Julia Lang. Have never seen her before but I’ll certainly rewatch her SP to André Rieu’s And the waltz goes on many times. The timing of the jumps to the music, the original step sequence 😍
youtube
I’m also happy that I saw Nikola Rychtaříková’s Yo soy Maria FP again, I love it. There are so many Spanish/Latin/flamenco/tango programs but I think she does a good job at the interpretation.
Then I watched Eliška Březinová and just realized how goood she looks on the ice. She’s dramatic in her Never tear us apart SP and then calmer, excluding positive energy in her La la land FP. (it’s just so ironic, imagine finishing third in the short, third in the free and ending up fourth overall...)
The most important message from men singles. Iker Oyarzábal. Spain. I repeat: Iker Oyarzábal from Spain made his senior debut! And he got the TES minimum for Europeans in his FP (exceeding it by more than 9 points) and almost almost got it in the short. Let’s hope there will be some other comps where he could try it again. He skated to trusted figure skating classics: You raise me up and Moonlinght sonata. And he’s so elegant. His spins are awesome. He was not that expressive but he’ll learn that (and he did a hydroblade ;) )
youtube
And another note. Czech skating is not only Michal Březina and the Bělohradský siblings but also Georgi Reshtenko (well he’s Russian but whatever ;) ) He looks like he’s skating with abandon and feels so free on the ice.
Ice dance
A thing happened... The competition took four days with ice dance on day 3 and 4. There were four very looooong videos on YT, one for every day. I watched day 3 with rhythm dances... and then when I wanted to watch free dance, the videos for day 3 and day 4 were gone. So I haven’t seen a single free dance... T_T But I’ve seen rhythm dance at least!
Rhythm dance! Only two senior teams but another Cabaret! I love, I collect them ;) Jennifer Janse van Rensburg / Benjamin Steffan. It was a really entertaining performance comparable with Popova/Mozgov’s interpretation. And then Lara Luft / Maxmilian Pfinsterer skating, very energetically, to Anything goes.
Junior ice dance looked like France decided to hold French open national championships and managed to occuppy the first four spots - even without their two best junior teams. As usual, I liked all the dances.
Perhaps I liked Eva Bernard/Tom Jochum and their RD to Michael Buble the most. They are doing a pretty crazy lift and ending with the twizzles. That seems to me like an act of courage.
Louise Bordet/Thomas Gipoulou’s City of stars is just so nice. Nice to watch from the beginning to the end. And I also liked the tap dance sequences in the music incorporated into the program.
I was a bit confused about Celina Fradji/Jean-Hans Forneaux, I thought they skated their last year’s RD (Singing in the rain) at test skates and now, suddenly, Blue Brothers. But not bad at all. They didn’t look particularly thrilled in the k&c though, so I’m a bit nervous about them.
And I still got to see my beloved Singing in the rain! Because it’s Marie Dupayage/Thomas Nabais’ RD! And they showed quite a lot of personality in the dance, especially towards the end.
And I enjoyed Corina and Patrick Huber’s New York, New York, too. When compared to the French teams, their level was noticeably lower, but if you are not a levels counting and scoring overanalyzing analyst you can enjoy the pretty costumes, enjoy how cute the dance is and just be happy.
And the last one was another siblings team - Petra and Patrick Csikós and their A nice walk in the park with a pretty acrobatic straight line lift.
The only thing I can say about free dance is: there were quite some changes.

Getting to know Iker Oyarzabal
March 5th, 2020
The 18 year-old skater from Txuri Berri club (San Sebastián/Donostia) is the current bronze medallist at Spanish Junior National Championship. This season he was able to win Zagreb’s Golden Bear in the junior category.
Which is your favourite element?
The element I enjoy the most are jumps, especially with those that are challenging to me.
Which is your favourite memory in the ice?
I’ve had lots of good memories, but I think I’d say the las Spanish Championship, that took place at my rink and in which I’ve achieved a good  result with all of my club’s support.
Who’s your favourite skater or your role model?
My favourite skater, just like for a lot of people, is Javier Fernández. As a role model: Aritz Maestu or Yon García are great skaters from my club with whom I’ve coincided.
Interview by Legahielo.

Euro 2021: The Spain squad Luis Enrique would've named for the March friendlies
Luis Enrique was meant to announce his 1st Spain squad since retaking the job on Friday, March 20 but, instead, there will be no global football for the time being. Euro 2021 fans can book Spain Vs Sweden Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.
La Roja was down to play matches against Germany and the Netherlands during March in preparation for Euro 2021. However, with coronavirus suspending football across the continent, UEFA has announced the Euro 2021 for next year. This is the squad Luis Enrique would've named on Friday.
Tumblr media
Goalkeepers
David de Gea, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Pau Lopez. The plan was to keep Kepa in the squad in March, despite him falling out of favour at Chelsea, although Luis Enrique was also considering the likes of Unai Simon, Fernando Pacheco and Sergio Asenjo.
Right-back
Jesus Navas and Dani Carvajal were staples in the squad in this position for Luis Enrique. The names of Cesar Azpilicueta, Jonny Otto and Sergi Roberto had also been mentioned, but they were a long way back.
Centre-back
With Sergio Ramos and Inigo Martinez guaranteed spots on the list, Luis Enrique was edging towards more Athletic Club representatives in this position. Unai Nunez and Yeray Alvarez were in the in a row, while other players involved Pau Torres, Raul Albiol, Diego Llorente and Mario Hermoso.
Left-back
There were plenty of options for Luis Enrique in this role, with Jordi Alba and Jose Gaya leading the race for a place in the squad. Elsewhere, there is Juan Bernat, Angelino and Yuri Berchiche who were in the running.
Holding midfield
This area of the pitch was reserved for Sergio Busquets and Rodri Hernandez but, if either of these two was unavailable for whatever reason, Mikel Merino and Jose Campana were next in line. Euro 2021 fans can book Spain Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.
Tumblr media
Central midfielders
There have been plenty of changes in the central midfield positions during Luis Enrique and Robert Moreno's spells in charge. Saul Niguez didn't have much chance of being selected, but Thiago Alcantara did due to his recent performances for Bayern Munich.
Moreno had forgotten about Dani Parejo, but Luis Enrique is a big fan of the Valencia captain and Sergi Roberto, too. In the more attacking positions, Fabian Ruiz was a certainty in the squad. That left scope for Dani Ceballos, Sergio Canales, Santi Cazorla, Suso, Pablo Sarabia and Iker Muniain to create custody.
Wingers
Spain favouring a 4-3-3 creation, Isco's return to form had been good news for Luis Enrique, who was set to select the Real Madrid man. Mikel Oyarzabal's usefulness would've probably seen him included, while Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo were also in with a shout.
Strikers
Based off worldwide form, Paco Alcacer was the obvious choice for Luis Enrique, while Rodrigo Moreno is also a fixed in the team. Then you have the unreliable Alvaro Morata, the tried-and-tested Gerard Moreno and the electric Inaki Williams, who hasn't played for Spain since 2016.

Spain Cruise Past Faroe Islands in 4-0 Win in Euro 2020 Qualifying | Bleacher Report
Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images
Spain continued their perfect run through UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying after beating the Faroe Islands 4-0 on Sunday when Rodrigo Moreno and Paco Alcacer netted two apiece for the hosts.
Valencia striker Rodrigo continued his run in the XI and scored an early breakthrough, adding a second after half-time break to ease tensions at the Estadio Municipal in Gijon.
Alcacer entered the fray after an hour and left it late to score another two in the last three minutes of the match.
Robert Moreno maintained his winning start as Spain manager, with La Roja now seven points clear at the top of their pool following Sweden’s 1-1 draw at home to Norway.
Sergio Ramos started in his 167th appearance for Spain, equalling Iker Casillas as the country’s all-time-record cap-holder.
There was a minute’s silence held before kick-off to remember Xana Enrique, the nine-year-old daughter of former Spain manager Luis who died in August:

Spain had control of the clash from the first whistle and played the vast majority of football in and around the Faroe Islands half.
It took Robert Moreno’s side 29 minutes to break the deadlock in Thursday’s 2-1 win away to Romania, but Rodrigo put the hosts ahead in less than half that time in Gijon.
Mikel Oyarzabal forced his way into the box and dug a pass out from under his feet to put his team-mate in front of an open goal, per Valencia’s official Twitter account:

The home side set up camp near the halfway line and advanced on the Faroe Islands goal searching for a second. Their guests, meanwhile, managed a single tame attempt in the first 45 minutes, per Flashscore.com.
The Faroe Islands played so little in the Spain half that there was cause for comment when they did finally open a chance in front of Manchester United No. 1 David De Gea:

Coach Lars Olsen’s side displayed proper defending for much of the half, however, and were equal to Spain’s attack for the most part, albeit failing to provide much threat of their own.
Thiago Alcantara almost scored a picturesque volley directly from a corner in the 37th minute, with goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen just about agile enough to get down to his left and save in time.
The visitors looked content to settle on a one-goal deficit heading in at the break, while Moreno knew his side had thus far failed to meet expectations as overwhelming favourites.
Spain made no changes at the break, but whatever was said took effect when Rodrigo doubled his and the team’s tally five minutes after the restart.
Thiago—who picked up a yellow at the end of the first half—sent Rodrigo into space down the right, but it was the Valencia’s star’s fine work to cut in and finish via the aid of a deflection.
Alcacer came on with half an hour remaining but left it until the final three minutes to contribute his brace, signalling to Moreno that perhaps he should be a part of the starting plans moving ahead.
Despite the clean sheet, Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal was one member of Spain’s defence who didn’t impress sportswriter Andrew Gaffney:
Andrew Gaffney @GaffneyVLC
How long has Carvajal been putting in pretty average performances now: A year? 18 months?
Spain have won six group games from six and retain their status as likely favourites to top Group F, while the Faroe Islands remain without a point and are all but eliminated with four matches remaining.
        What’s Next?
Both teams will resume their Euro 2020 qualification campaign on October 12, when Spain travel to Norway and the Faroe Islands will host Romania.

Spain beat Sweden to stay ahead in Euro 2020 qualifying
Sergio Ramos extended his goal strikes and helped Spain defeat Sweden 3-0 and maintain the lead of their qualifying group for the 2020 European Championship. Fans are excited to get their Spain Euro Cup Tickets to see live performances of their favorite team and players.
Substitutes Alvaro Morata and Mikel Oyarzabal also scored at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium to give Spain a comfortable five-point lead over 2nd place Sweden. After 4 matches Group F, Romania is also five points behind.
"It’s a great result in a difficult match against a tough opponent," Ramos said. "We’ve taken an important step toward making it to the European Championship."
Tumblr media
Ramos has scored 20 goals with the national team, including seven coming since last year's World Cup. He is the top scorer of the national team under the guidance of Coach Luis Enrique, also absent for personal reasons.
The result at Bernabeu extended Spain's winning streak to five matches and ended a run of seven unbeaten games. Ramos converted a penalty in the 64th minute after a handball by Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson following a center by Spanish forward Marco Asensio.
Ramos also opened the scoring in a 4-1 win over the Faroe Islands last week. When the central defender became the most successful player with a national team, surpassing the record of 121 previously held by his compatriot Iker Casillas.
The captain was honored for the record before the match. Marked Ramos 165th appearance on the national team - two fewer than another Casillas record.
Tumblr media
Spain scored another penalty in the 85th minute after the fall of Morata by Filip Helander in the box. Ramos handed the ball over to Morata, who calmly converted the place.
"It was a great attitude by Ramos to let me take the penalty," Morata said. "I hadn’t even asked for it."
Oyarzabal closed the scoring with a shot from inside the box in the 87th for his first international goal. Spain controlled the match at Bernabeu, creating most chances of scoring.
Rodrigo was denied an offside goal in the first half, and Francisco Isco Alarcon came close with an undisputed shot inside the box, which narrowly missed the start of the second period.
Sweden lost striker Viktor Claesson due to a first-half injury. For the third consecutive game, Luis Enrique was absent and the team was led by assistant coach Robert Moreno.
"They only had one attempt on goal, so we are happy with the result and with the performance," Moreno said.
Luis Enrique works remotely from his home in Barcelona. He receives video streams of practices and virtually meets his assistants. There is no schedule for the coach's return. According to local media, his absence is due to a problem with a family member.
The qualifications will resume in September, Spain playing in Romania and Sweden visiting the Faroe Islands.

Next season - what I’m looking forward to
A question popped up: “What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season?”
The simple answer is: “Ice daaaaaance please, alllll the ice dance.”
I’ll try to be more articulate though and give a more complete answer.
1) First of all: Nebelhorn! It will be so exciting to follow first the selection process - who’ll be sent there and then to follow the comp itself - who’ll get to the Olympics. (Go, Taschlers, go!!)
2) Grand Prix series returning to a more “normal” rules and organization with not only domestic skaters. Really hoping it will be all possible.
3) Olympics. I’m just looking forward to seeing the skaters skate on the Olympic ice. I don’t even mean the fight for medals but seeing the lower ranked skaters make it there. (Go, Donovan!!)
4) European championship. I love Europeans. Europeans is my favourite comp. Europeans is the most important comp. And I don’t take constructive criticism 😉 I know I’m terribly biased (but in the focus on either Team!Japan or Team!Russia, all the small fed!European skaters do deserve some love!)
5) JGP and seeing skaters from non-traditional skating countries there. And hearing Ted Barton again.
6) Seriously, alllll ice dance. I’m so hyped up for new RDs. To be honest I’m not that excited about the midnight blues pattern dance. But I’m very curious about the “street dance rhythms”, I’m looking forward to seeing how the teams will approach this. And I also understand that to some degree the ISU cleverly chose this theme to attract a broader public watching the Olympics. I’d also love to see generally which direction the skaters will go in free dance. (When the RD is energetic, upbeat, the FD tends to be more serious and vice versa so I’m curious.)
7) Program reveals. Just the different forms. Someone says it casually in QA on Instagram. Someone during an interview. Someone will wait for the first comp of the season.
8) Seeing new programs. I’m curious to see if the skaters will be more conservative in their choices given it’s the Olympic season. I’d like to know if there will be a lot of recycling, either programs from this “pandemic season” or their most favourite/successful programs from previous seasons…
9) Hoping that the pairs drama will calm down.
10) The rise of Spanish men! There are so many of them. Pablo Garcia, Tomas Lorenc Guarino. Iker Oyarzabal. Aleix Gabara. Aranaud Joly. That’s some domestic competition!
11) Ice shows at the end of the competition season. Hoping that it will be possible and that the skaters will deservedly have some fun.
12) Surprising winners and inspiring stories (as was for example Liza’s journey to the silver medal at Worlds this year)
13) I’m just curious how the big big training centres will do in this Olympic season: Montreal Ice dance academy, Young Goose Academy in Egna, TCC… And also if there will be some surprising coaching changes. (And we are not even talking about Russia…)
14) I’m not looking forward to it but I accepted as a fact that after Olympics there will be retirements. Probably more than in other seasons. So I’m curious how it will influence Worlds 2022 and how will the situation/hierarchy shape up in big feds for the next season.
15) Personally, I’m looking forward to see Matteo Rizzo, Kevin Aymoz, Misha Kolyada, Dima Aliev, Artur Danielian, Yuma Kagyama, Shoma Uno, Keegan Messing, Madeline Schizas, Josefine Taljegard, Mae-Berenice Meite, Sasha Trusova, Boikova/Kozlovski, Mishina/Galiamov, Pavliuchenko/Khodykin, Hamon/Strekalyn, Conti/Macci, Sinitsina/Katsalapov, Hubbell/Donohue, Hurtado/Khaliavin, Guignard/Fabbri…

Despite their impressive progress in the Copa del Rey, including a 1-0 victory against Barcelona in the quarterfinals, they have spent a couple of months in the Bilbao Athletic League, which traveled to the Reale Arena for the Basque derby last weekend without a victory in seven.
A disappointing afternoon for Bilbao was aggravated when Iker Muniain saw a direct red for his horror challenge over Mikel Oyarzabal, and the result means that Gaizka Garitano’s men remain nine in the table and eight points behind the top four.

Spain vs. Faroe Islands – Football Match Report – September 8, 2019
Spain homed in on Euro 2020 by easing past the Faroe Islands 4-0 on Sunday for a sixth straight qualifying win that featured two goals each from Rodrigo and Paco Alcacer and moved them further clear at the top of Group F.
Sergio Ramos equalled Iker Casillas‘ record of 167 appearances for Spain on an emotional night at Sporting Gijon’s El Molinon stadium, which paid tribute to the late Spain and Sporting forward Quini before kick off.
A minute’s silence was also held in memory of former Spain coach Luis Enrique’s daughter Xana, who passed away last month.
There followed a straightforward win that took Spain on to a maximum 18 points after six games and leaves them seven ahead of second-placed Sweden, who drew 1-1 at home to Norway.
Romania beat Malta 1-0 with a goal from George Puscas to leapfrog Norway into third place on 10 points.
Valencia striker Rodrigo tapped into an empty net to put Spain in front in the 13th minute despite being in an offside position when he received a pass from Mikel Oyarzabal.
But with video technology not in use in the qualifying phases, the goal stood.
Rodrigo doubled Spain’s lead in the 50th minute on coach Robert Moreno’s home debut by cutting in from the right wing and firing a left-footed shot towards goal which took a heavy deflection off a visiting defender on its way into the net.
Alcacer then furthered his reputation as a highly productive substitute by further stretching Spain’s advantage with simple strikes in the 89th minute and deep in stoppage-time. Midfielder Thiago Alcantara said the team had not played as well as they would have liked due to the visitors’ negative tactics.
“It was very tough at first, you expect a team like them to close you down and sit back and that’s what happened and we struggled to break them down,” he said.
“They had three players marking one of ours although once we got the first goal it was slightly easier. We still weren’t completely comfortable but we’re happy with the result.”
With the top two sides in each group guaranteed a place at Euro 2020, Spain need only win two of their remaining four games to qualify for the tournament, but Thiago said his side were determined to win every match.
“We are focused on getting all the points, it doesn’t matter to us when we qualify, we want every point, from the first to the last,” he added.

Sergio Ramos equaled the record of Iker Casillas with 167 caps for Spain when they beat the Faroe Islands 4-0 in a Euro 2020 qualification on Sunday evening.
The Real Madrid defender, 33, set his sights on surpassing 200 games for his country after moving level with his former teammate for both club and country.
Spain eased to a victory that continued their 100 percent record in qualifying Group F with two goals each by Rodrigo and Paco Alcacer.

The Real Madrid defender played Sunday evening in the 4-0 qualifying win in Faroe Islands
Ramos said: & I want to be the next moeili player make it to beat it.
& # 39; It is far and hard to have 167 matches for your country. It is a reward and a joy. Many years of hard work to come to this point.
& # 39; I was lucky to make my debut at a young age and to have the confidence of all my managers.
& # 39; Fortunately, injuries respected me and I wish I could defend this badge for a long time.
& # 39; Records are there to be broken. I enjoy going match by match and waking up every day with motivation to get better.
& # 39; I hope to keep this youthful and energetic side of me as long as possible to extend my farthest record.
& # 39; I wish I could play 200 games with my country. That is my next goal to achieve. & # 39;
Spain's leading appearances of all time
167 – Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos *
133 – Xavi
]
131- Andres Iniesta
126 – Andoni Zubizarreta
125 – David Silva
114 – Xabi Alonso, Sergio Busquets *
110 – Cesc Fabregas * , Fernando Torres
* Still active in the national team
Ramos has won the World Cup and two European championships during a very successful international career.
He will surpass the record of goalkeeper Casillas if he has the qualifications next month against Norway and Sweden.
The next highest cap winner for Spain is the retired Xavi with 133 appearances, while the next highest active player is Sergio Busquets at 114.
A much changed setup struggled to assert itself and required Alcacer & # 39; s late brace to shine on the scoreline.
Things had looked quite different when the hosts were only 14 minutes away. needed to break the deadlock, Mikel Oyarzabal selflessly squared in Rodrigo to tap an empty net. the bar in the 21st minute when Spain continued to dominate, with David De Gea a virtual spectator for the first half hour.
In contrast, Faroer keeper Gunnar Nielsen was kept busy saving Jose Luis Gay a and Thiago before Rodrigo missed his chance of a second when he went up close.
If the Faroe Islands are delighted to have reached peace with only one deficit, this marked a short delay before the Spaniards shot forward in a quest to expand their lead.
Striker Rodrigo slapped aside when Spain threw Faroe Islands aside in Euro 2020 qualification
Paco Alcacer scored two quick-fire goals in the final moments to end with 4-0 mauling
Suso and Rodri came close in the first minutes of the second half before the seemingly inevitable second goal arrived in the 50th minute, Rodrigo scored with a deflected shot.
Spain was in cruise control, but they almost paid for their complacency in the 73rd minute when an error by Ramos allowed Joannes Bjartalid to walk and test by Gea.
More pressure paid off in the 89th minute when Alcacer, a 61-minute substitute for Oyarzabal, flashed at his side after a nice build-up.
And there was still time for Alcacer to add his second with a header past Nielsen deep in injury time that completed the scoring.
