I think the thing that sucks the most about the current state of the left is that while we are the most educated and resource rich, a lot of us are just sitting around waiting for someone to save us. For the perfect thing to tip the scales in our favor.
Some tough love: we do not have the luxury of despair. If you wanna be an activist, you need to do more than donate. You need to do more than scream really loud and hope someone cares enough to change their minds. Appealing to your opponents humanity isn't working because they don't think you're human. Stop punctuating every political statement with "do you know how bad this is????" Everyone knows. Everyone can feel it intrinsically in their everyday lives.
Your step one should be to get involved in your community. Volunteer your time, especially with food pantries and night shelters. Even book drives. The more you talk to people in and off the internet, the more organized we can be. Conservatives aren't idiots, clearly every move they've made has been a calculated and coordinated effort. Meanwhile we're fussing over which memes are too mean. Do what you can but I know several of you who can do more than doomscroll.

idea
so a few years ago i thought of an idea for a convention for indie video game characters, it would've followed the hollow knight characters as they get into shenanigans including hornet and thk going to a group therapy session for characters with tragic backstories (meeting some batim characters there) or broken vessel and the radiance pretending to be employees and making a booth to sell """orange juice""" (radi and broken vessel would have like an interesting dynamic with broken seeing her as a mother figure) quirrell, monomon, and lemm going "artifact" hunting (they ended up dragging like a trash bag of random merch) ghost was with one of the groups but ended up going on their own and causing chaos with the Ultrakill characters (they and v1 would get along) rain world will be involved somehow and the scugs would be hanging out with their respective iterators (pebbles and arti, moon and ruffles, sig and hunter, and suns and spearmaster) also the eternal cylinder cause that game is underrated as hell

ive been failing at writing for so long that ive decided to just jump on whatever feasible idea i can muster and so im like. outlining a shitty ya novel. truly paint by the numbers kinda story like literally a "teenage protagonist discovers they have inherited special powers and must join a secret society of people with these powers" type of basic. usually i would consider this too cookie cutter of an idea to actually work on but ive been a dry well of no writing for like a year so ill write anything atp

I WARNED YOU ITS SELKIE AU TIME
Here’s Craig!! Ignore that i drew him kinda young here, this was just a doodle, he’s like early 20s in this au
Anyway plenty of people know about female selkie myths: they go on land, get their skin stolen by a man, and they’re forced to marry and live with him till they either 1: die or 2: find their skin and return to the sea
but there are male selkies with a bit of a different lore >:)
male selkies follow the same rules with skins as women do: they shed their skin to become human, and without it, they can’t go home. But, according to mythology, if a heartbroken or unhappy woman cries 7 tears into the sea, she summons a selkie to fall in love with her and take her back to his underwater kingdom.
the stories range on how much of this is the woman’s free will vs. mind control, and no one seems to agree on how long a male selkie can stay on land, but this is kinda important to this au. Not the main focus, but i wanted to mention it anyway cause i found it cool.
but yeah expect more of this cause i’m brainrotting very hard atm <3

Forever annoyed that "don't speak over marginalized people", the notion that marginalized people are already spoken over, and their oppressors need to actually listen and learn before speaking about complicated topics and need to do so in support of not OVER them, so quickly turned into "I'm not x so I can't speak on x issues". Like the "don't speak on this if you're not this" started out so well meaning because it was about people needing to actually take the time to learn before talking about issues they didn't previously understand! Now it's just an excuse for people to never learn about the issues minorities face or to actually stand up for them in any meaningful way

I do mainly see writing as like a fun hobby i pursue when the impulse strikes me but i really do always want to improve! So because this is a blog im thinking about my writing goals for this current project:
Try to pull back and be more ambiguous when writing metaphors etc try not to state things so directly
Reduce the amount of like, buffer words, like she thinks or she feels. We’re in her pov we already know this is her thinking
Try to make my protagonist interesting without relying on her being funny (why didn’t I just write a funny protagonist?? what was I thinking!)

God I wanna... Say Something regarding fatphobia in media and the terms ppl use in describing characters who gain weight over time ("letting go" like bro shut the fuck up???) and how like, there's also nuance to the discussion (like, a character who starts out on the heavier side choosing to lose weight shouldn't be demonized either - as PLENTY of people want to lose weight for various reasons, and while you can point to a decent amount of it stemming from our fatphobic society, a lot of it is also just personal desire at the end of the day - but I also understand that if your ONLY fat character loses weight at the end and the other characters don't change either, then that's not good) but idk, I'm a little too tired to properly articulate what's going on in my mind? But I just... wish this was more of a discussion
