Devil's Minion is an interesting title though, isn't it.

I mean one of them is a creature designed and all but required to kill. He could eat animals, technically, but we know that isn't sustainable long term - even Louis, who genuinely tried it, wanted it so bad, couldn't keep the diet up for long. That's just not sustainable for their bodies, not what they were made for.

And the many long centuries of isolation, many long centuries of being unable to go out during the day, to talk to people without raising suspicion - and the changing of times, watching the culture shift and drift away from you without being able to fully follow it... Anyone would be distant from humans, from humanity, it's a shift in the psyche supported from every angle to make you view people as prey rather than equals.

And then the other? Human. A guy. He had relatives, friends, probably. He's more than likely lost people before, knows the grief of death far more intimately than a being designed to take two or three lives in a day ever could.

And yet, night after night, he holds the hunter in his arms. Cuddles up to him, ignores the fact that any warmth in his lover cost another human being their life. He ignores the pain and suffering they went through despite being fully equipped to understand it, ignores the grief and heartache he knows their close ones must be feeling - more than that, he takes pleasure in it! He drinks the blood of the monster, for no reason other than his own pleasure, and he tastes in it the wails and screams and desperation of those that were killed for it, and he's addicted to it. He wants more. He craves it, needs it.

More than THAT, even, he wants nothing more than to be part of it. To have the power to take human lives, to be the same as the alleged devil. Armand had no choice in the matter, not really, and has no choice but to kill - Daniel wants it, more than anything, he's constantly preoccupied with it, begs for it over and over and over.

And on the other hand, it's Daniel who gets his wishes granted. Daniel who can point at anything he wants and have it in his possession the next moment. Sure, he has to follow Armand's whims and impulses, teach Armand, follow him everywhere, but at the end of the day Armand is serving Daniel as much as he is himself, if not more.

And it's Armand who has to, through arguments and tears and heartache, defend what he sees as the one boundary he set in the relationship. The one line he has begged Daniel over and over again not to try to cross, Daniel has to test again and again.

He'll do anything for Daniel, anything, except for the one thing that would hurt him most - and its still not enough.

what are we going to do when daniel gets his memories back and armand realizes that daniel actually loved him and accepted him and wanted to be a vampire not just for the sake of having immortality but so he could be with him for the rest of eternity. armand realizing that he wasted all these decades apart from daniel and it's too late isn't? daniel is old and he's dying and armand doesn't want him to die but he doesn't want to curse him with vampirism either. so what are we going to do, huh?? what then??

i'm sorry but as a devil's minion fan myself dm fans HAVE to stop acting like loumand were like. Equally bad for each other or wtv bc like. armand did kill his daughter and actively lie about it for 70 years that is a very real thing that happened.

and like yes obviously the relationship wasn't exactly healthy for either of them but you NEED to stop acting like louis was this evil monster who selfishly drained all the light and life from our precious baby armand can we maybe not frame louis like this. maybe.

and like. i write this post as someone who starts rubbing his hands together every time those vampires are toxic to each other let me be VERY CLEAR. but maybe examine why you're so willing to let the narrative slide into one that villifies louis so heavily and thoughtlessly. LOUIS, our PROTAGONIST, who is by no means perfect himself and yet it's HIS story we've been following and it's HIM we've been meant to at least somewhat root for THIS WHOLE TIME. think about why you're so quick to throw him under the bus for your favorite lil ship (i'll give you a hint: it's not NOT racism.)

And the reasons just keep getting flimsier and flimsier, like it starts with "serial rapist" and ends with "cut me off at the grocery store". like, he definitely just wants to kill people but for the longest time he feels like he has to justify Why he wants them dead

at the end of the chase, just before Armand wipes him, he is just fully like this person has done nothing wrong but i want to see Armand eat them so they will die and thats all the justification he needs.

and then after he gets wiped he doesn't remember the chase, and reverts back to some semblance of his old morality, with some hang ups smoothed out

Anyway I think as the memories come back Daniels at first kinda horrified?? But then is like well I mean…. Who cares really, people will die at any time, hes just speeding it along. Old man nihilism ya know?

something something devils minion works in general but especially in the show because daniel is the only person who is uninterested in Armand, The Performance. Armand, who grew up a slave, who has spent his entire afterlife since shaping himself in whatever image will protect him best, who dons the demeanor that will ensure that he is Kept. Daniel, who couldn't care less about the act, who is disgusted by the deception for the simple fact that it is deception, one of the only beacons of truth in a show that is about distortion. who looks at Armand, The Person, in all his awfulness and cruelty and monstrous vulnerability, and says i knew it, there you fucking are. and he does this after having been on the wrong side of armands real self more than once. there can be no more pretense between them. its just that daniel loves him anyway. this is because daniel, too, is a nasty little freak--

Also, I know that we literally make jokes about, "what if Daniel's geriatric ass just fell while leaving the penthouse" but like... What if there is some truth to that? There's a reason they've given him Parkinson's. They could have given him any kind of illness. But pretty much the most common way that someone can die "of" Parkinson's is from falling due to problems with balance. And that penthouse is full of weird stairs. It's a deathtrap for a shaky old man. And we see Daniel standing at the top of stairs a couple of times including at the end when he comes in and sees the aftermath of the Loumand breakup.

Okay but what if Armand has inadvertently made Daniel more susceptible to Parkinson's because of how much he's fucked with his mind? 😭 OH THE ANGST! OH THE PAIN!!
