newt thoughts: this is a Best Science competition and i have to Win

#unscientific aside #newmann #pacific rim #thinking about them again today #it's very easy to read hermann's animosity during the movie as him being pissed off at newt for his 'completely crazy'#theories getting attention + being a massive nuisance in general #that's exactly what it looks like if you just listen to WHAT he's saying #however if you pay attention to WHEN he says it & pay attention to his face when no one is looking it's very clear there's more going on im #like the kaiju entrails comment. newt has all these tables with guts set up right next to the line & has clearly been working there for age #theres a big pile of intestinal-looking tubes over on hermann's side of the floor already! not a peep from hermann!#but then when newt tries to join the conversation he happens to throw another little squidgy bit & suddenly hermann jumps on him about it #brings up in front of the marshall how CONSTANT this unprofessional conduct is while also cutting newt off #he physically puts himself between newt & pentecost #interrupts newt every time he tries to talk #starts making snarky little personal comments AT newt to discourage him - 'don't embarrass yourself' 'yes [just get to the point]'#'this is the point where he goes completely crazy' [significant look at newt]#keeps hovering in the background looking between newt & pentecost #like. ok he is SO MAD that newt is getting pentecost's attention here. obviously #the thing that does it for me though is how sad and resigned he looks when newt finally does get to the point #this is not the face of an angry rival #this is the face of a man with ulterior motives for his animosity #i dont think newt has any ulterior motives hes aware of lol he thinks hes in a movie about 2 geniuses vying for scientific superiority #happens to be in love with hermann but hasnt realized because hes so mad at him all the time #he only realizes how much hermann cares when he offers to drift with him

This might be a bit of a dark question about the fuzzy AU but.. was Acht alone when they died? I'm assuming timeline wise that side order didn't happen pre Grizz winning (unless it did) so did they spend their last few days(?) alone in the Deepsea Metro with no idea what was happening to them or did something less heart wrenching happen?

Man that is a massive plot hole I completely forgot about and did not see coming. Honestly I think I can make it so somehow Acht already met Callie before getting fuzzed up? Because if not it wouldn’t be so interesting (and most importantly there wouldn’t be enough angsssssst).

Also yeah this post is a bit sad so just sayin’.

Acht and Callie already knew each other and went out together constantly, but they got fuzzed up when they were far from each other. Acht couldn’t get out of wherever they were in, because they were just so weak, until it was too much to handle and they died, alone, nobody knew they were struggling with it.

Callie often gets flashbacks about the time they spent together, however her memory gets blurred by her instincts and she doesn’t seem to be affected by them that much anymore. But she does remember them vividly, being probably their first true love.

She sometimes stays up at night thinking about them.

And the saddest part is that she still thinks they’re doing okay somewhere around.

as someone on the spectrum i really felt for red guy in the photoshoot scene with his family, specifically when he’s moving around a lot and just. not doing what everyone around him is doing, and gets scolded for it.. especially his line “i’m just happy. i’m sorry..” like godddd that’s relatable. so many times i’ve had to apologize for simply being happy and i just want to give red guy a hug please. idk if the writers intentionally made it feel that way but damn it got me

#my art #wc oc #squints. its been a dogs age since ive posted anything wc oc related #oc #BUT YA!!!! these guys are old. i think i made cicadahop 2018-2019 but i could be wrong/i have no way of checking haha #and scallopstar was made 2020.? i think? both are vaaastly different #if i were to play them today i think id keep a lot of things the same for cicada. shes just a silly girl who wants to make friends and #and be kind. as for scallopstar. i think id change a lot #one reason: ive gotten a lot better (I HOPE) with storytelling now that ive been playing dnd for a well over a year #and since i also run two different campaigns. two: i have more experience writing a character with an arc that turns them into a villain #three: i was really going through it at the time so. erm. #my characters #waiting on some info on the next commission so i indulged in ocs today bc i doubt i will have as much time for lil comics for a bit #deacon is so devoted hes like yeah i would kill for a deity that could easily kill anything himself but yknow teehee #and fulj just did you tell him you needed therapy also does he even know youd murder in his name #deacon caught red handed haha no of course i havent told him it should be obvious enough haha.... and its in his defense not his name :c #man really does have some issues but i love him so much and hes so devoted but like. unhealthily after a while #he does in fact need a chill pill and therapy but to be fair #ymber has needed therapy for centuries and yet he just bottles it all up and suffers so #its pretty unhealthy until they yell at each other one (1) time bc they are so insecure about things and get mad over very valid reasons #but then theyre like you know what that was necessary and i still want to stay by your side if you let me #and then fulj is like dude hey sorry you seem really happy did you fu- and ymber is like no please stop there we have not #fulj just squinting cause have not is very different than will not but whatever she doesnt wanna think about that with deacon involved ew #and eventually fulj is like hey ymber im sorry to say but i really do hate deacon and i dont even know why but he makes me uncomfortable #while deacon is just. in the room. hearing this and thinking how he knows she thinks hes weird but wow that wording hurts #and ymber doesnt wanna fill in memories better forgotten by fulj which she had forcefully removed #so he just says oh well his hair and clothing are black and you had someone in the past that you might see in him and its not a pleasant en #so you know maybe its that idk #and fulj is then WHATST i was rude to him for someone i cant even remember? lame im gonna try SO HARD to be nice to him now #and deacon just still sitting there with some food like this is v awkward and i wish i could not be here for it #and later he asks ymber about who he resembled and as ymber is descibing her it clicks in deacons head and he gets really sad #that he might somehow remind fulj of the woman she loved before she was punished for loving a mortal #and he feels kinda bad pestering her so much with his curiosities about deities and he kinda gets it #the fact hes close to ymber might remind her at the core that she was once that close with a mortal if not closer #anyway story time in the tags again #im so obsessed with these peeps and i have made them suffer so much but they do all end on a happy note #its still funny and nice to me that while fulj is creeped out by deacon and doesnt like talking to him #he still expresses the most emotions to her - he tries hard to remain serious around ymber and collected and obedient at all times #and when out and about with ymber he has to be intimidating and refuses smiling but fulj?? all sunshine and smiles and emotions easy to rea #and she is just that is so weird go away i hate you
