Soulmate (+ Reincarnation) AU
Where when you touch your Soulmate for the first time, you remember your shared past life again. And touch can mean everything a brush, a handshake, a slap, etc… (Bonus if only skin to skin contact counts!) (I hope this hasn’t been done yet, or else it would be really awkward..)

Mix: Meisei Story, Episode 3 - Unexpected Developments
Tumblr media
I'm not an expert on his works, but I would call myself an Adachi admirer. And so after episodes one and two of Mix: Meisei Story, I supposed that I generally knew where the story was going, and specifically where the first arc would go. But episode three reminded me that Adachi isn't only a master of tone and art, but an excellent writer as well. He may take us ultimately to the place we expect, but the route could be anything but.
Episode three quickly brings us through three games—a practice one and two tournament matches, both won by Meisei Junior High when the school hadn't made it past round one in two decades. In these games, we see Nikaido pitch in live game action for the very first time. He doesn't give up many runs, but the weaknesses are what we thought they would be—his pitches are nothing special and his stamina is weak. But what is surprising is that Nikaido has positive attributes. He wants to win. He displays emotion. He listens to Sou's leading from the catcher position. And he displays a fiery attitude when needed.
Besides all that, Imawaka, the team captain, speaks plainly and rudely to Nikaido, who doesn't fight back. Could it be that Nikaido isn't as bad as Sou and Tou picture him to be, and that his father is the one and only enemy here? Could the manager be supporting Nikaido knowing that his dad is the difficult one?
Also unexpected—though probably only for me—is that the series is moving closer and closer to pushing Tou and Otomi as a couple. Although he loudly denies it and she seems clueless to the possibility, their intimacy with one another and, in fact, those very actions by the two seem to indicate that they'll end up together. It's not a coupling I would expect from this series, and one I hope doesn't develop, since Adachi's work carries an innocence that sets it at some higher standard, at least in my mind. That all makes me wonder if something will occur that will make it okay for us as an audience to accept this coupling.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, that "okay event" turns my mind immediately to death.
The latter half of this episode brings in the most unexpected details of all, and these connect to and perhaps even foreshadow death. When Tou and Otomi go to the vet, Eisuke plays catch with his adoptive son, who tells him that he never did so with his biological father, who merely watched him play and claimed that he himself was not a very good player. Eisuke's reaction to that story, as well as his own admission that he isn't a very good pitcher, leads us to believe that Sou's dad was an excellent ballplayer and probably a pitcher as well (The number one jersey discussed in the previous episode perhaps belongs to Sou and Otomi's biological father?).
That scene, combined with Sou's seeming desire, somewhere deep inside, to be a pitcher, just blew this series open for me. Does Sou end up being the pitcher instead of Tou? Do they end up having a deep rivalry at pitcher? And does this series go the direction of Touch, it's predecessor, by killing off one of the pitching brothers? It would seem exceedingly unfair if either Tou of Sou died, the earlier because he has a very obvious arc to complete, one that will help him, I think, understand the nature of love, while killing off Sou would just feel so wrong—he's the imperfect guy that's easy to root for. It would be like killing off Kou from Cross Game, or for those unfamiliar, Ichigo from Bleach.
So...does that mean Otomi dies? Or another to-be introduced character (the other girl figuring in the OP perhaps)? Or no one one at all?
The importance that death has on the series and how viewers approach it, whether it actually happens or not, goes to show that Adachi himself has become a plot element. Our knowledge of how he tells stories contributes to what we expect from this one, and he's using it to his advantage (or the director is) by creating tension here. Where is this story going? We all think we know, but as Adachi has shown in the past, and is doing again now—we should expect the unexpected.

Week 5
London Trip
We went to London on the 6th of February. This was an opportunity for us to find any research that could relate to this project. Although I was unable to find anything specifically related to The Wicked + The Divine, i did keep an eye out for exhibitions related to ancient gods.
We visited the V&A museum and The Natural History Museum
Bellow are some photographs I took in the V&A
Tumblr media
Robe for a Daoist Priest 1800-1911, Qing Dynasty

Tumblr media
Membership card for Die Brücke - 1911 Karl Schmidt- Rottluff (1884-1976)
After thoughts
I found going to London an enjoyable experience, and spent a lot of time exploring both museums. I spent a portion of my time trying to find art that related to ancient gods, and to some extent I was successful, although I did not find any of the specific gods that are in The Wicked and The Divine. Going around parts of the museum that related to ancient cultures was informative in itself, and it was nice to see the difference in artworks produced by other cultures in different time periods. I also looked at different forms of woodblock printing, and when we went to the Natural History Museum I spent the majority of my time there exploring and didn't take any photos.

Imayoshi x Wakamatsu //because sadistically laughs
I’ve never heard this ship before omg
Who would be the big spoon?
— Imayoshi, I can’t imagine Wakamatsu getting into any of this soppy stuff with someone like him (he gets annoyed by it lmao).
Who would wake up first?
— I think it all depends, if there’s something on like basketball training, definitely Wakamatsu, otherwise he’d just try to sleep in so Imayoshi would get up first.
Do they have nicknames for each other?
— Imayoshi has cute nicknames purely for the intention of affection and annoying the crap out of Wakamatsu, like Waka-waka, Kou-chan, and so on. Wakamatsu has nothing outside of his usual bastard which rarely happens seeing as Imayoshi is his senpai and he isn’t Aomine.
What happened when they met each others parents?
— Oh god uhh wow. If supposedly they’re dating, Wakamatsu is all nervous around Imayoshi’s parents, considering what he is like and that his parents would be strict I guess. While on the other hand, I have headcanons for Wakamatsu’s family, that they’d be really down-to-earth with this whole thing, which doesn’t really put pressure on Imayoshi at all so he can be normal and sadistic as he wants.
How do they apologize after an argument?
— Uhh… Little things Imayoshi would jokingly apologize, though Wakamatsu makes it a lot bigger of a deal than it really is. I see Wakamatsu as the type who’d severely argue even though he’s wrong, whether he knows it or not; Imayoshi being able to refute everything he says even though he might be bullshitting. I suppose on Wakamatsu’s side he crawls back with an apology after cooling off for a bit.
What would they be like as parents?
— Imayoshi would totally make a much better dad than what was thought of him to be. Like he’d seriously care about his kids so much. Wakamatsu on the other hand tries to do things with his kids and hecks up a lot of the time, resulting in anger and taking it out on the little Wakas.
Who’s the better cook?
— Alas, more headcanons! None of them are amazing at cooking, but Wakamatsu is the better chef here. Imayoshi can’t cook at all, somehow everything he tries to cook will burn, but Wakamatsu can make the most basic of things: instant ramen, omelette, nothing too spectacular.
Who is more romantic?
— I can’t really imagine either one of them being romantic. Wakamatsu makes really dumb attempts at trying to be romantic, like trying out a new recipe or whatever which doesn’t usually work with Imayoshi, and results in arguments. I guess Imayoshi’s attempt at being romantic involves something sadistic maybe idk.
What sort of gifts do they get for each other?
— Wakamatsu tries to be thoughtful and will try to get something Imayoshi might like, though it’s never too expensive or anything. Imayoshi doesn’t buy gifts, or will very rarely buy anything, he’s more the type to let someone choose out what they want, as opposed to a gift.
Who gets jealous easiest?
— I can’t see Imayoshi getting jealous at all if he saw Wakamatsu having a friendly conversation with someone else, he knows that he is too dense to try anything like that. On the other end, Wakamatsu will get angry if he knows Imayoshi’s trying to flirt with someone or vice versa.
Who gets more excited for events e.g. birthdays, christmas?
— Wakamatsu is like the king of excitement here, moreso to the point where Imayoshi has to try and calm him down because it’s too much, though he doesn’t get too excited for his own birthday.
Who’s the most adventurous?
— Is this supposed to be in the bedroom or just in general life? Imayoshi takes it either way, Wakamatsu generally just goes with what he’s given; he’s more of a “do what you’re told” guy. If Imayoshi told him to go do something instead of basketball practice, he would do it, and go back because it’s obviously a prank.
Who is the most protective?
— Wakamatsu is so much more protective of Imayoshi than the other way around. Imayoshi knows his boyfriend is a big boy and can protect himself.
What would they have been like as childhood sweetharts?
— Imayoshi playing pranks on Wakamatsu as affection, I suppose. I don’t really get what this means.
BONUS: Song to sum them up?
— Guilty Pleasure - Cobra Starship/Tom Sawyer - Rush
Do I ship it?
NOTP / Crack only / AU only / Not really / Maybe a little / Well now I do / Yes / Of course! / OTP
