In what may be one of the more obvious references in “Time Bokan: The Villains Strike Back”, the Imoto Ayako mecha has quite the reaction when it sees a catepillar mecha.  With its red skyline, crawling on all fours, and berserk attitude, the entire scene was of course a direct parody of one of Neon Genesis Evangelion’s most iconic (and disturbing) scenes.  However, much like a few other references in the past, this one had one element changed in the international release: when it first aired in Japan, the music was different!

Of course, to completely sell the joke, the song used was “The Beast II” from the very same scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion itself!  No surprise it was changed, but it only shows that Time Bokan goes the full mile to make its parodies!

This is when everyone went "waaaaah!" During the show, VTR is shown where Imoto is holding a small version of this common fruit. She then asks Tegoshi (who is in the studio) to guess what the fruit is. Now Imoto has already taken this VTR, so she is watching it with others. Imoto (in VTR): "Who am I gonna ask,,, Yuya!" Tegoshi(studio):"Isn't it a watermelon?" Imoto(in VTR):"Close! No, it's not a watermelon...." Everyone (including me): "daaang!" She pretty much predicted what Tegoshi was going to say. Watch it to see it yourself lol.

So the kids were picked up at 2 am and at 6 am they were at the foot of the mountain, ready to take off. Tegoshi went an extra mile and packed like he was gonna climb the fucking Everest. He said he knew his shit because he “watched Imoto Ayako for years”. So his toys were taken from him and his shoes replaced with ones that actually fit ie 2 sizes smaller. 

Not to say it was an easy mountain to climb. The ascent was steep as fuck right from the start. Interestingly though, Tegoshi and Shige went at the head, keeping a similar pace while Koyama and especially Massu lagged behind. That’s to anyone who labels Shige as not athletic. On a side note, it is frankly annoying how good Shige looks in a beanie and even a fucking helmet!

Modern people do not remember that Asayan was even a thing, wow Lol how much did they pay Aki-P for this Aki-P says something like "although both MM and Onyanko Club were idol groups with large rosters, and Japan's national group, the difference lies with Tsunku, and that strong music personality he brought to the table" something about Tsunku's insane productivity and the depth of his creative control, and thus how much he was responsible for every bit of what defined Golden Age MM. With the example shown being the way he micromanaged the vocal deliveries, lol. Now, we know that Tsunku directing the members in the booth was more of only done for the Asayan cameras, and in reality, the H!P recording directors are the ones doing it now. But until his surgery, they were still all working off of his vocal demos. And you can see that while the earlier H!P members still tried to do their own vocal interpretations, everyone from about Ayaya on (and from 3rd gen on in MM) were indeed trying to emulate those demos. insert obligatory "come on UFA put out that demos compilation album YOU COWARDS" here Aki-P then points out that, in contrast the dance groups of the day, MAX and SPEED, H!P did hook dances that anyone could do, and hook songs that everyone could tackle in karaoke. Oh shisus the H!PK audition, MEMORIES. In 2002, MM were in the top 5 of celebrities that girls admired and aspired to be in, such that 25000 participated in that audition. Celebrities who have auditioned for MM (and didn't get in, obviously) include fashion model Darenogare Akemi, AKB's Yukirin, comedian Imoto Ayako, Nankai Candies' Shizu-Chan, and former Idolling!!! Asahi Nao. Plus a kid who backdanced for Minimoni at Kouhaku lol. Pfffffft Yasuda talking about jockeying for the center, some things never change XD I think Tsuji was talking about a stalker fan? Or, at least, someone who discovered where she lived and visited her family's home. And then Fukuda talks about people asking her for autographs and making the local news, even after she had left the industry at that time. Oh, they're talking about their money situation during the Golden Age? The real money coming from doing activities with less members involved, like sub-units or PBs. (More importantly, just doing more activities period, and more popular members would get more opportunities) Blablabla talking about the rotating lineup and making the grads such a ceremony. Queen Nakazawa slaying as usual Pffft, look at Yaguchi faking a new reaction to the "2nd gen gets scolded" clip even though they already showed it at other shows last year. Oh, a section highlighting that MM almost constantly has had a large age gap across the roster! omg it's a miracle they're actually talking about the other oldschool H!P groups (And highlight Miho of all people. um, not the person I expected, huh. Satoda makes sense, she made it fairly big in variety, and the Tanaka Masahiro connection.) Wait was that a TNX/NGP potshot Wait, apparently Tsunku produced the FUJIWARA comedy duo or something? *insert Friends new information gif here* Wait did Tsunku snark about Fujiwara's singing Lol Yasuda was pissed at the relative quality of Yossie and Maki's vocals in Petitmoni amazing and being their Godfather lol Aichan pulling the "zenbu" gag (wait so Yasuda couldn't do MM 20th because she was finishing her pregnancy, and then traded off with Rika who can't do the H!P 20th because she's finishing her pregnancy now lol) wait wow they're bringing up that three members are divorced that's new Yossie worked a farmers' market stand 4 years ago, including growing the product? Ishiguro did a series of "at their house" interviews...for an online magazine or something? Yaguchi did a lecture at Todai! (I mean, Momoclo did a university lecture with Kawakami, too) sasuga the hosts instantly knew how to engage with Yasuda good job show very good use of your Yasuda I got the utaban nostalgia pretty hard
