#personal#went to grandma’s house tonight#in classic ethnic family fashion. the grandkids are told not to cry so as not to upset grandma#so. in noticing my cousins on the verge of tears. I strike up some quiet conversation#something light. a couple of jokes to ease their minds#then uncle comes out and yells at us for laughing when we should be grieving#and we all fall silent#I exchange a Look with my brother#uncle storms off#and the other adults dismiss his outburst as him being crazy/always having a temper#so I’m feeling. twice as bad#bc from his perspective: the kids weren’t taking this seriously#and then having everyone else invalidate your feelings almost immediately after#…yeah.#I hate this cultural contest of Who Can Repress Their Emotions The Most#you can’t show emotion so you bottle it all up#and then when it all bursts out. you’re crazy#no one wins#the funeral is on wednesday#and I feel like he is going to be very mad to see me there#anyway. goodnight.
