It’s crazy to see how people interpret dean and sam’s brother dynamic as “wincest”
Some people have clearly never trauma bonded with their parentified older sibling. Then you take into account the degree of trauma that they have been through and continue to go through. Their codependency stems from their childhood and current traumas, their mental states due to that, the way they grew up with their father obsessing over the importance of “family is everything,” and the deep parentification of Dean, AKA Dean having to be a CHILD while raising his little brother, and taking care of his insane father. It’s not “wincest”/incestuous in anyway, it’s called trauma, parentification and general unstable family dynamics.
I think that a lot of “wincest” shippers don’t actually see what trauma can do to a person and their dynamics, specifically the people that endured that trauma with you. Dean, who was the older one that had to in HIS WORDS “be the mother, father, and brother” of his younger brother since the age of !4! is obviously going to be extremely protective/codependant of/with Sam, both because of the parentification and the words of his father carved into his very being. As for Sam, having Dean be all those things for him, means that more than anything, Dean is it for him because Dean RAISED HIM. Which is why, for so many reasons, what John said to Dean (killing Sam), was one of the most cruel things he could have done. John if not straight out, on some level knows that Dean and Sam will forever have a different dynamic because Dean raised Sam, ergo, Dean being more of a Parent to Sam than he ever was.
That’s not to say I think Dean was a “perfect parent” to Sam when he was raising him. No one can be “perfect” especially not a teenager raising his baby brother. What it means is that Dean had to sacrifice his childhood and grow up quickly for Sam to be not only Alive, but also so that Sam could -have- a childhood. All of this while Dean was still actively growing up, enduring his father, hunting, and having to come to terms with monsters. But he couldn’t allow himself to mess up, and going back to the idea of “perfect parenting” we see that no, he in fact was never “perfect” specifically when he leaves so that he can play games, and he sees that Sam’s safety is (extremely unfairly) placed on his shoulders. All of this, yet again along side with never having a stable home, having an unreliable source of income, and having to basically learn how to be an adult at 7, was the start of their dynamic.
As for Sam, we see that he got to play on soccer teams, go to school, and exist (while still having to endure all of the nightmares that is his homelife) outside of the hunting. Whereas Dean was the one who gave him this chance. This is not to say that Sam should ever feel guilt over this, or that Dean needed to do this. This is to show just how different their sibling relationship is, due to the trauma.
Dean treats Sam like a brother many times, but underneath it (or on top) you will always see that he is a parent to him more than anything.
“Wincest” is talking about their “strange/codependant relationship” in a romantic or purely sexual manner. This in itself just shows how many people don’t understand what it means to either have a kid or be a parentified older sibling. (I personally am not a parentified older sibling, but my sister who practically raised me is) and because of MY family dynamic I can speak from experience (definitely not to Dean and Sam’s extent) of having a parentified older sibling, and how that differs from regular sibling relationships.
Ok, this was a ramble, but as a whole “wincest” is extremely disturbing to me as a whole. And I don’t know what the rules are on this specific topic, so Idk how much I should say. But I definitely don’t condone inc*st to any degree, but to each their own ig.
Alright, I have SO much more to say on this topic. But I will hold back for now, just because I am sleepy.
XOXO

sO ASK MEME
gf ut souls, google earth existed in 2012, gf will my chaos never cease, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and I JUST HAD THE BEST IDEA 👀
also apparently I have 42 wips bc I didn't count mine and im,,,, yess
Some EXCELLENT choices >:D
"gf ut souls:" I don't have a lot for this one, but the gist was "what color souls would the Pines twins have." I have two potential colors for each of them, and as it turned out, there's not a lot of overlap between them. (also if tumblr mobile could let me pick more than just the limited colors i'm allowed that'd be GREAT)
dipper: bravery/perseverance
mabel: integrity/kindness
stan: determination/patience
ford: justice/perseverance
yes ford might be yellow. no i did not plan it that way. wkdjwdkdjdk
"google earth existed in 2012" was my shot at "ok but what if the world at large was aware of weirdmageddon" fic skdnsodnsldks. we'd follow dipper and mabel's parents as they spend the end of the summer in a panic and then just fkn BOOK IT once weirdmageddon ends and the falls are back to normal
"gf will my chaos never cease" is a fanfic of a fanfic. yall know "the invitation" by @3hobbitsinatrenchcoat? my brain tried to make me write "post-weirdmageddon, while stan's still got major memory issues, ford actually looks through stan's degrees and feels Regret™" fic. one day i might finish it. one day,,,,,
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" is another fanfic of a fanfic wodjsodnskdnsdk. i came across this fic on ao3 where stan wound up hosting a late night talk show, and ford finds it in the deepest depths of his paranoia, and after a while of listening and clinging to the one stable thing he has left, ford calls in and they have a heartwrenching heart-to-heart on the airwaves. the idea came from somewhere on tumblr that might've been st*nc*sty, unfortunately, however i'm stealing it for all of us in the anti-inc*st crew >:) i wanted to try giving a mostly-dialogue writing style a try, and, well…
"Alright, while I get this dust outta my eyes, let's hear from our second caller! Caller, you're live!"
"So. 'Sixer' and 'Knucklehead,' huh?"
A squeak and a crash from the host.
Weakly, "…hi, Sherm."
"'Hi, Sherm,' he says. You two haven't been calling like you said you would, and now you're co-hosting a radio show?! When was this?! Last I heard, neither of you wanted to contact the other for fear of-!"-
"WEEE DON'T NEED TO AIR OUR DIRTY LAUNDRY ON THE AIRWAVES."
A wheeze. "Holy shiiitake mushrooms, it's actually Sherm!"
"Darn right, it's me! Now fill me in, dangit! When did my baby brothers make up, and do I have to tell Ma and Pa?"
"DO NOT TELL PA, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR GOURD-?!"
"Sherm, this whole thing is a relatively recent development and-"
"Whoa, slow down-!"
"-know what he'd say if he found out we were talking to each other again?! I can imagine it crystal-clear! He'd take one listen and-!"
"-I mean, Ma would probably like to know, but Pa isn't exactly happy with either of us, and you know as well as I do that he'll take in the evidence, reject what he doesn't like, and find a way to blame everything on Knucklehead, and we are not going through that again-!"
"-wait, wait, hold up, Sixer, what do you mean, Pa isn't-?!"
"Guys. GUYS. SLOW DOWN. GUYS."
"…what do you mean, Pa's not happy with you?"
"Remember what I told you about my studies, and how they've recently gotten to be too much for reasons I can't get into on the air?"
"…yeees?"
"I may have undersold it…by a lot. I was sleep-deprived when I first called in, but not because I got wrapped up in my studies. At least, not in the conventional sense. And…being that much of a mess isn't exactly conducive to making those millions Pa always wanted from us."
"…Forget Pa. Fo-Sixer, I'm on my way to your place now. You can explain things when you get back from-"
"Sherm, are you in the car right now?!"
"You can't go there, it's not safe, Sherm!"
"Says the man who lives there."
"I'm not kidding around! I'm currently with Knucklehead, and I intend to be up here for at least a few more days. As long as he's alright with it, you ought to come up and talk to us here, off the air and far, far away from what my studies have wrought!"
"Yeah, once Sherm's heart is set on something, it's gonna happen. Once the show's over, call the line again, alright? I'll give you the address then."
"…fine. But you two better not chicken out on me, got it?"
"Got it."
"You got it."
"Good. I'm going to hang up now, but I'll still have your show on, so don't think you've gotten rid of me."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
"Of course not."
"…I missed you two knuckleheads." Click.
"Aw, Sherm…"
"For what it's worth, we missed you too."
"Man, are we gonna make a habit of patching up old wounds on the radio? I'm not gonna make us stop, I just wanna know."
And then "I JUST HAD THE BEST IDEA" is that Portal!Ford in the massive multifandom crossover that's low-key rattling around in my brain 24/7, which I posted about here :D

Look, i'm just here to have a good time, i just wanna get through the day by looking at cas and developing brand new disorders. But the unmistakable stench of ~discourse~ is wafting over my quaint little eremitage and bc i know that i have been in fandom spaces longer than some of you (and appropriately ashamed of it) i wanna share some pretty solid red flags to look out for:
1. People insisting that a fandom is drama free. Thats just never true and the people saying this are usually the centre of all drama.
2. People trying to keep a fandom "drama free" at all costs. Sometimes discussions need to be had and people need to be called out. Stifling conflict at all costs mostly hurts minorities in fandom spaces, bc its usually their valid criticism of racist/homophobic tropes and behaviour that gets supressed. Insisting everyone be nice to each other at all times is a sign of immense privilege and ignorance.
3. Fandom moms. Specifically older fandom members wanting to show newer/younger members the ropes, telling them who they can interact with and who is "bad news". (Yes i fully get the irony of me making this post.) This is sometimes used maliciously to groom younger or underage fandom members.
4. People starting drama for shits and giggles and then acting like a victim when people get angry at you. Sometimes a little drama is funny and often its necessary, but ppl specifically starting drama for attention so they can then act like a victim in front of their followers are weird.
5. People bringing the "tumblr discourse of the day" into fandom spaces. This is happening less and less as twitter is replacing tumblr as the discourse oven, but i vividly remember someone posting "bucky barnes hates ace people :)" a few years back and im begging yall not to bring back this shit.
6. People having extreme parasocial relationships with actors/creators. Look, we all have parasocial relationships, theres no need to deny this. Thats what celebrities are for lmao. They post shit and interact with fans for this specific reason, theorising and talking about them is perfectly normal. Moderation is key. Its perfectly fine to try and connect dots between the bits of information they choose to share with us, whats not fine is prying into their personal lives and publishing private stuff they didnt activelly publish themselves. You shouldnt kid yourself into believing you actually know anything about them. Also like.... have a little restraint lmao. Just because a person doesnt immediately react negatively or dismissive when you ask them inappropriate stuff doesnt mean theyre ok with it lol. Especially if their livelihood depends on people liking them. Posting weird shit on tumblr is FINE, everyone knows this and theyre not looking here unless they want to see it. But for the love of fuck dont send them this shit on twitter.
Now, some of these are immediate dealbreakers and some of these are perfectly fine on their own and all of these exist on a spectrum. Most ppl in fandom are at least partially "guilty" of some of these. I sure as hell have started a little drama here and there and i know that simply making this post puts me in fandom mom territory. Its about the dosage, you know?
Oh yeah and shipping inc*st is bad, i dont know why we're having a discussion about this.
