this might will be a long rant but it is something that kind of bothers me when thinking about mha rising heroes is the fact that it kinda implies that Mahoro and Katsuma basically live alone

I know they are neighbors that look out for them but none of them mention anyone taking care of them full-time heck their house seems to be away from any neighborhood and is based on their reaction to it being destroyed by nine, nobody was living in their meaning they're literally living alone the majority of the time

A responsible parent would have just moved out of the island with their kids if they didn't have a proper job there!

like what the fuck was their father thinking when leaving his 8 and 6-year-old kids all on their own with no guardian and no relatives. Heck the kids literally went out at night when they should have been at home UNSUPERVISE, what's worse is the fact there were a lot of instances of them almost dying on their own! with NO GUARDIAN OR PARENT to protect/worry about them if class 1A didn't step in!

the biggest tonal dissonance is hearing ccTommy say this in his offline chat:

and then in the finale reducing his character's differences with cdream down to "you just needed a friend" and "truly understanding" him. To say "hey, what if this isn't making you truly happy? :<" and raising a hand out to someone who has gaslighted and tortured and physically hurt him and so many other people around him. At least to me, shows the juxtaposition between him as a cc and him playing a character. Tommyinnit, the content creator, did not strive to tell a story with such dark themes; and is incredibly privileged as a person (as far as we know) to not have to go through those things himself.

He may understand, on a fundamental level, that his character is a clearly victim of abuse. He may understand how violent, disgusting, and awful that is to go through. But, through this lens, has NO clue how to deal with the aftermath.

And that's the problem: there are real abuse victims out there. And they saw themselves and resonated with his character's reactions in these situations. People have these traumatic experiences, but are left to figure out how to move on. To have it with them for the rest of their lives to deal with these situations, whether they fully escape said abuser(s) or not.

And ccTommy has in no way had to LIVE with this trauma. You cannot walk away from all of this unscathed. It's a bit awkward. The only way that ccTommy would be able to see any light from this ending is... see it in someone else's perspective! Try to find the optimism in it all, make a friend out of it, sympathize, and wipe out everyones memories and start all over. Start fresh. Real victims do not have that as an option. It's harmful and reductive and every other word in the book. THATS why so much of the community has said dsmp's narrative fits best with a path of healing, not needless angst.

What kind of message are you leaving your whole audience with this kind of ending?

i think part of the issue in this whole "was season 2 good or bad writing" debacle is that we didn't expect there to be a season 2. no one did. season 1 was It. you had season 1, the book, and the radio drama (and well. the movie script/play audio if you knew where to ah. look)

so.... it allowed for everyone to make their own version of events that would happen afterwards and not leave any room for "well maybe this will get changed later so i shouldn't hold onto it". everyone got to become soooooo entrenched in whatever Their version of the characters were and how they thought things might happen and how they would behave and act

so when s2 happened and it Didn't end up w them living in the south downs and behaving exactly as everyone had inferred they would from their version of s1 and introduced a New storyline for the first time in 30 years......... ofc some people did not like that at all and saw it as bad writing. esp if you were a book fan before the show because these are characters with a very specific limited storyline they were attached to for years, sometimes decades

like i get being disappointed. it's just v unfortunate bc none of us had really allowed room in our imaginations for a season 2 so we got to build everything off a story that had already been written for 30 years, not having to care about the continuation of that story from the author bc we didn't think we'd ever get it
