inheritance cycle modern au in which all of the dragons are horses which makes eragon the underdog horse girl, saphira the underdog girl horse and brom the disgruntled and disillusioned horse trainer who doesn’t believe in the validity of this sport until he sees the ✨bond✨ eragon has with his horse saphira who is still as blue as she is in canon (don’t ask thatā€˜s just how it works, if you question this, iā€˜ll track your ip).
and galbatorix is the aggressively eastern european horse girl dad who had some sort of hip injury that brought his eventing career to an abrupt end and now he must vicariously live through his protégé, murtagh, lest he kills himself. and thorn is the very expensive horse galbatorix bought for wish fulfillment purposes and murtagh and thorn are so horribly traumatized by all the stress and pressure of defeating little kids at the pony finals that they ✨bond✨.
oromis and glaedr are their direct opponents and galbatorix nancy kerriganā€˜s them (oromis dies like he does canonically because honestly, hunters be like that) so murtagh can get his ribbon. and then thereā€˜s the big final competition and eragon, underdog wonder magic horse girl, goes toe to toe with murtagh, tortured champion to be, and they have this epic horse battle (an 80cm clear round but the atmosphere is very intense) and eragon loses. but then brom delivers this epic speech about idk man like success and passion and whatnot and then he dies which gives eragon the final push to defeat murtagh but OH NO, thorn is HURT from being OVERWORKED and murtagh has an epic horse peril breakdown and tearfully tells galbatorix heā€˜ll withdraw.
so galbatorix goes ā€žfuck the kidā€œ and gets shruikan (the very bad very big black warmblood stallion that shows up in every horse girl movie) to best eragon HIMSELF (but not before locking nasuada, the animal rights activist that murtagh has struck up a tentative romance with, in a porta-potty). and then him and eragon compete and itā€˜s INTENSE (meanwhile, roran and katrina have a sub plot about capturing a flock of runaway ducks that is constantly being cut to during that climactic scene) and shit is looking DISMAL for poor eragon until a vision of brom and also his dead mother, because this is a proper horse girl movie and not some bibi und tina bullshit, and that gives him the strength to defeat galbatorix.
and then he wins and thorn doesn’t die and someone frees nasuada from the porta-potty and she gets to punch galbatorix in the face. and fĆrnen (who is a horse but also still green) emerges during the post credit scene and meets arya and sets up a cash grabby amazon prime spinoff series and roran and katrina successfully capture the ducks and everyone is happy and there is no more horse peril.
the whole thing takes place in exactly one horse show afternoon. it makes such perfect sense actually you can fit everyone in. nar garzvogā€˜s at the grill and makes hot dogs. islanzadi does nothing but drink cheap wine and bitch from the sidelines. angela mans the beverage stall and tells everyone who wants to listen (or doesn’t) that toads don’t exist. solembum is the raccoon on her shoulder who violates all fda guidelines by simply existing. orrin is nasuadaā€˜s bitter ex boyfriend who pretended to be vegan for years so sheā€˜d like him only to be dumped for murtagh and his emo swagger in a heartbeat. orik is a shetland pony.

Did we ever get an in-universe explanation as to why the dragons didn't heal Oromis as well?
The easiest answer would be that the spell required so much energy that they could only heal (1) one curse.
Now this is gonna sound cruel, but if that's the case, if they needed a weapon against Galbatorix, why on earth would they pick Eragon? Why bet on a hatchling that has barely proven himself in battle when someone who already is an experienced warrior, an insanely poweful magician and their friend is right there and dying?
Truly, why not heal them both? Saphira's diamond transmutation schenanigans have already shown that the normal rules of magic don't apply to dragons. If the EldunarĆ gave it the idea, the reflection could manage it.
We would have had an Oromis who has to restrain himself to not just fly to Uru'baen and strangle Galbatorix, now that he is whole. Who perhaps feels guilty that he has been healed and Glaedr not. We could see just how much of his occasionally fickle temper has been due to his buried frustration at his disability and how much is just him.
And we would see an Oromis who still gets beaten and driven back by Murtagalbatorix because he fails to heed his own advice and lets his rage blind him.
It still would not be him and Glaedr who beat Galbatorix. They are too old and filled with righteous anger and they know too much about what he has done to even think of compassion when he's before them.
But compassion is exactly what is needed and that is why Eragon accomplishes what they never could. Only this time he does it not because he's the literal last Dragon Rider, but rather because of who he is.
We would have seen an Oromis who lives to see Eragon best him, and could not be prouder.

Several months after their enthronement, the Queen and King of the newly reunited Broddring Kingdom are starting to realise that perhaps their well-practiced public facade of a harmonious marriage need not be a mere facade...

PIRATE IC/MIC AU WHEN?!
(I know nothing about pirates and privateer life, nor even much about seafaring beyond what not to do in general when stuck on a liferaft, but I love this and I can see it and I might tinker one day but I've got an alcoholic elder Dragon Rider to lock in a bathroom and have heart to heart talks with the people who love him over the course of his alcohol withdrawal and that's already taking up a majority of my research brain.)

Done. Roran, Katrina and Ismira.
Aaaaaaah - take this before I murder (for legal reasons; I'd never do that). I don't know, maybe I'm bad at seeing orange, but anything in that direction always looks a little dull (it's much better on my drawing tablet and perhaps I also need sleep). In any case; Katrina is supposed to be copper tones.
Anyway; I orientated myself while drawing Roran at the design I made for Selena. Tho he doesn't have the long extra feathers and his tail is similar to what Ismira has - she'll grow those out a little more when she gets older and maybe her feathers will get a tad brighter too. Roran really turned out a lot different than Eragon, I just realized. I blame Brom's blueness xD
I hope everyone who asked for this, finds this and isn't too disappointed lol

I will always be so sad and angry that Eragon never recognized how horribly the elves treated him and that no one else helped protect him from it either. Oromis is so insidiously and inexcusably cruel to him and Eragon truly deserved the chance to escape that and see the damage he caused, and also to then beat Oromis into a bloody pulp. And Glaedr too, honestly. He's mostly gone unscathed in my past rants, largely because at least his personality isn't so insufferable, but he ain't shit either. He's fully complicit in all of Oromis's vile abuse, and adds to it himself in certain places. They more than earn Eragon's ire, but they all constantly belittle him and insist that they inherently know better than him about everything, and poor Eragon believes them, so he doesn't fight back. No!!! Every misgiving you have about them is true, and not only should you stand your ground, but you should also start maiming them!!!!!
Oromis's mannerisms are respectful, kind, and gentle, but they in no way indicate his actual feelings. It just serves as a guise, while their actions demonstrate that both he and Glaedr don't have a single shred of respect for Eragon. They don't trust him, they don't put faith in him, they don't care about his wellbeing, and they have so much contempt for him. And they do all that while they take everything from Eragon, demanding he sacrifice himself constantly, and not always just in the interest of beating the Empire! In some cases it's solely an expression of their resentment of him or a way to cut away at the parts of him they don't like.
And Eragon gives them everything, so earnestly and generously. Then they give him jack shit. They only give him whatever suits their intention to use him as a weapon, and even in that, they pick and choose things to withhold according to their disdain for him. Contempt is all he gets in return for his trust and loyalty.
And it makes me sad how Saphira isn't there for him in this. In her defense, she's very young and they harm her also by prioritizing her utility to them over anything else, which she sadly does not recognize either. But beyond that, the elves and Oromis and Glaedr specifically treat her far, far better than they treat Eragon. She's in no way responsible for their actions, but there are places where she enables the abuse. Most often through overlooking it, but sometimes when Eragon rightfully balks at their mistreatment, then turns to Saphira for her input, she tells him, "I trust them and I think you should be deferring to them."
Eragon is so earnest and compassionate and he deserves care, both in the form of other people caring about his wellbeing, and also through the chance for him to learn how he can and should care for himself. Yet at the end of the series, he's so conditioned to accept manipulation and abuse and I just want my poor boy to have a chance to rest and HEAL 😭

Got my driver’s license, so yall getting a Modern ā€˜Good’ Morzan AU, and who drives like what.
Eragon: blasts music like there’s no tomorrow. Might be deaf at this point, but the ADHD must be silenced with rock songs.
Murtaugh: terrified of turning left, but other than that he’s a decent driver. He can’t remember the last time he’s ever did an oil change on the car.
Brom: ā€œdon’t turn on your turn signal, that’s how people know where you’re going.ā€ā„¢ļø
Puts everyone in music timeout if he misses a turn
Arya: only one who can ACTUALLY drive. But she does go fast.
Morzan: hits a curb and goes ā€˜oopsie’. If he crashes and dies, just know he went out like a man (he’s belting Madonna)
Oromis: had his license taken away, but will still judge your driving even if he’s wrong.
Nasuada: passenger princess. In fact, she never even got her permit. But she doesn’t need one as everyone just drives her where they wanna go, because she’s the one that orders for you at a restaurant, and knows how to do an oil change.
Roran: can’t drive a small car, but can drive a tractor like a race car, and has a pickup truck that’s so busted up you don’t even know how it’s still running. It’s living off blood, sweat, tears, and the power of god.

Random person: I've always meant to ask, how did you come up with the idea to make Galbatorix feel all the suffering he'd ever caused?
Eragon: *starts sweating*
Elva: Yeah, I wonder too

idk why but I just find belgabad very interesting. belgabad’s eldunari being in the vault of souls is one of my cherry picked additions / headcanons to ic. Another one is Bregan (the guy who sees energy as light) becomes a bit more important during the same time the fork the witch and the worm is happening.

Damn it. Not another one.
In MIC (not in other media and other peoples writing, I've read many fics where this is done fantastically well and I love them) I'm fully against Firnen hatching for Arya before the war ends. She's on the battlefield or battlefield adjacent (aka Camp Varden) for a vast majority of the extended war in MIC. I can't bring lil Stringbean into that! And Saphira meeting Firnen before he's reached maturity feels...eh, kinda squicky honestly. That's just my opinion, mind you.
But the image of Eragon, half awake, blundering out of his tent after a good long sleep post battle and battle cleanup, yawing, walking by a huddled trio of Arya, Glen and Brom, doing a double take of walking past and then walking backward and just stating, still sleep faced and blank and monotone,
".......sorry but...I know your....assets....were not that big last night."
Arya just sorta facepalm like 'shit we forgot he stared a lot, huh?' and turns to him and unzips her combat jacket just enough for Firnen to blink and poke his head out from where he's nestled up against her chest.
"Oh. Okay."
Half an hour later when he's having another cup of coffee and a good breakfast he fucking chokes on grits as Saphira mentally tail slaps him because they both just made sense of what he saw.
Table flips over, damn near pulls part of the mess tent down, scramble skids to a halt in front of them all again and, in a rush of words that he does not quite understand and Saphira is half saying through him because omg that was a dragon that was a dragon thatwasanotherdragon:
"ARYA! SHOW ME YOUR BOOBS AGAIN!"
Brom and Glen: AGAIN?! Arya: HE MEANS– ALL OF YOU SHUT UP!

Just hit me randomly;
Galbatorix really really doesn't like kids. Like, he openly said it, but it's past them being just annoying or something.
As far as we know he made no attempts to manipulate younger riders before/during the fall, even if that certainly would have been an easy task for him. The youngest forsworn was Morzan, who is anywhere from one to maximum six years younger than Galbatorix, and was already past twenty when first meeting him.
And he only really acknowledges Murtagh after he turns 16 (meaning adult in alagaesia). He could have used the years to insert himself as Murtaghs father, to thoroughly get him on his side.
But no.
Kids are eww. xD
