Sick of Myself

Summary: a young woman goes to extremes of obnoxiousness to attempt to get what she wants out of jealousy of her boyfriend's apparent success.

Plot with spoilers: Signe is a hard working pretty woman leading an unremarkable life, the most interesting part of it up to the point we meet her is that she is in a relationship with Thomas, an artist that is starting to acquire fame on his profession, Signe clearly feels out of place around his friends, nobody listens to her in parties and in general nobody takes her seriously in great part because she has little interesting to say.

Thomas in the meantime is getting commissioned more art works, he appears in magazine covers, all this leads to him starting to take Signe for granted.

During Signe's job as a waitress she comes across something that makes her very sick, realising this makes her the centre of attention (as anybody in emergency services in a hospital would be) she starts to gorge in this substance and builds a "career" as a victim of an unknown and crippling illness which is nothing but the dire symptoms of the stuff she is taking in secret, doing this she also acquires fame and fortune.

In parallel Thomas career is uncovered as a total sham, and Signe eventually gets a comeuppance that frankly was thoroughly deserved, but after all this suffering for nothing she is left far worse than se was at the beginning of the film.

I really disliked both characters, they represent all what is wrong with celebrity culture and the film feels incomplete because it doesn't delve deep enough into the motivations of both of them, although the film is about Signe's quest Thomas is enough of a shitbag to deserve the shameful comeupance he's given in the film.

I was entertained but in a way I didn't enjoy, I suggest to give the film a go, it is innovative in a very weird way (made in Norway by the way, one of the filmic houses of weird in recent years), most probably you haven't watched something like this before.
