The main critique I've seen leveraged at Saltburn is that is falls short of its message of "eat the rich". But like...I never saw it as as that. Saltburn (to me) is steeped in a specifically English class context of nobility. There is this gap that cannot be bridged. Oliver throughout the movie has this deep frustration that he does not permanently belong in the sphere of Saltburn. Multiple people specifically goad him with this fact. Oliver is privileged by most people's standards, but it isn't enough. It's not eat the rich as they're all terrible its eat the rich as consuming them, absorbing them, licking the plate clean. The film came across as less a class critique and a hornier knives out but rather a psychological horror story about desire and not being able to have what you want the most. Oliver will never belong truly at Saltburn. Oliver despite worming his way into the family never has physical intimacy with Felix. It's not skewering the rich, it's commenting on the deep desire to inhabit their skin.

Chilchuck analysis speedrun: As a hardworking half-foot who grew up poor and discriminated against and had his gullibility taken advantage of multiple times in his early adventuring days, Chilchuck thinks optimism is a dangerous flaw. He’s stressed and strict all the time because his job is noticing details like traps that could get everyone killed before anyone knows it, he takes the lives of everyone to be on his shoulders, and with the way he speaks about it that probably partly reflects how he felt about taking it upon himself to provide for his family too. His life’s always been pretty centered around work and has become even moreso now that his wife left and everyone is independent, and due to past events he’s very iffy with bonding with coworkers. He thinks feelings and job are a disaster mix. Like with his wife or with parties hiring him as sacrifice, being open or having good faith is vulnerability which can get you hurt, so he processes and shows all his stress as anger instead of worry. Doing strict dieting probably isn’t helping the irritability what with hunger, and on top of being a hunger suppressant alcohol might be the main stress reliever he has.
His grey hairs are so earned

Wrightworth is not "Sunshine x Grumpy"
They are "Visibly Traumatized x Repressed Trauma", they are bitch for bitch, they are so many more interesting things than that overused dynamic.
Miles is not some sad boy who needs to be coddled, he is a grown ass adult who sent many people to jail. Some of which could have possibly been innocent. He's done some shitty things that are influenced yes--but not excused by his trauma. He can and SHOULD be called out on things he did, stop blaming all his bad actions on Manfred or Gant.
Phoenix is not a golden retriever boyfriend. Maybe he was in college when he was "Feenie" but that shit ended the day Dahlia was arrested (Hot take Feenie feels more ooc to the Phoenix we knew in the trilogy than Beanix ever did to me). Phoenix is a snarky bitch almost all the time, even thinking/saying downright mean things to/about people he cares about like Maya. He has massive big brother energy but not always in the "I'll take care of you" way but often in the "I'm gonna disgust/upset/annoy you on purpose because I think it's funny" way. (Like if you choose the fishing pole in Turnabout Goodbyes, he teases Maya by suggesting they use Missile as bait, which Maya takes as well as you'd expect).
Miles is not a princess who waited every day for Phoenix to save him. Miles was perfectly content to forget his past entirely as is his coping mechanism, and Phoenix has a savior complex that no one asked him to have. Miles never asked for Phoenix to reappear in his life, Phoenix just realized Miles was gonna ignore him, so he became a lawyer himself so that would no longer be an option for Miles.
This isn't to say Wrightworth is a bad ship by any means. This is to say that their characterization and relationship are so often blatantly misunderstood by the fandom. So often watered down to fit a basic mold. Which is a shame because their actual relationship is so much more interesting to me.
Sooo many fanfics get both of their characters wrong to either fit a dynamic they never were or because they want to give them less accountability than they deserve.

not to get dramatic but one of copia’s dissociative translations in his troubled head was seeing sister imperator’s saucer of pills as a mug of tea and biscuits. he’s clearly an unreliable narrator who sees things we can’t trust to be true; going off of this, can we trust that the mug of tea he was handed before the encore was actually that? who’s got time to down a whole mug of hot tea when you’ve still got three songs to perform? isn’t it a strange beverage to give him out of all the other options? don't get me wrong i'm absolutely not being serious here (also not insinuating that copia is ill like seestor, i'm going down the psychological route) but what i'm saying is he could have been handed medication he didn't want to acknowledge

“i guess so” was so insane of buck to say. what do you mean you guess so. there was no reason to respond like that. why not just say yeah. YEAH. YOUR ATTENTION. what was the point of i guess so. he looks soooo relieved to have an answer for his feelings but he’s saying i guess so. girl what. what! you’re guessing? you still don’t know for sure? he’s standing in front of you and you still can’t conjure up an emphatic yes? you’re acting in ways so strange your sister is baffled? you don’t even know why your father figure would approve of your relationship? you don’t know what you’re ready for? you don’t know why you lied to your best friend or why you hurt him? you’re just not certain of anything? “i guess so” WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW!!!

i don't know if some of you have seen but scooter braun has officially retired from managing artists to focus on being a ceo at hybe america. he put out a statement where he said this on his instagram:
i could break down how bad this whole statement is bad but i wanna point out he purposely named newjeans, txt, le sserafim, seventeen and illit here and called them "new acts" and did indeed confirm that he will be working with these groups very closely in the future and yet people are still not alarmed about his involvement and don't take the boycott seriously. this statement is quite literally alarming and proving once again that hybe doesn't care about our opinion and what we have been telling them these past few months. it's so obvious they won't let go of him any time soon and this will only get worse if people don't mobilize themselves seriously. a lot of boycotters can tell you the same thing but we are so tired of begging people to boycott it's EXHAUSTING if this doesn't make you scared i don't know what will

prefacing this by saying it's obviously just my opinion, but i've spent soo much time thinking about what makes an eiffel design look the Most Eiffel to me, personally, so here are some design notes:
dark, wavy/curly hair. unkempt. anywhere between just past his ears to about shoulder length. usually tied back in a low ponytail.
scruffy!! never, ever clean shaven. his facial hair is most prominent on his chin, and there's a visible break between the hair on his upper lip and the hair on his cheeks. stubble, short/patchy beard, or hair just on his chin all work well depending on style.
visible arm hair!! and any other body hair that's relevant. generally hairy guy. anything that makes him scruffier looking is important.
long features - long face, long limbs. lanky body type, but with a bit of weight in the gut. bad posture. talks with his hands. wide, open body language: tall-ish with fairly broad shoulders, but most of the space he takes up is in his limbs so he can kind of comically fold narrowly into himself when scared / being yelled at / etc.
(classic Doug Eiffel Arms Behind Head While Leaning Back and Floating pose is always a winner.)
expressive, to kind of an absurd degree. tired eyes. lopsided smile. his eyebrows do a lot of the work: i often see people instinctively draw eiffel with sheepish "─┘└─" shaped eyebrows and it's very real to me. constantly hamming it up even when he doesn't mean to. he has the presence of a class clown that never grew out of it.
prominent nose, kind of "square rounded" in shape with a wider tip <- same as zach valenti's. i wouldn't say he looks exactly like zach valenti to me, but definitely very close, with a difference more in style than features. italian-american by association...?
generic star wars logo tee as his default outfit, but other generic logo tees for things he likes, or "undershirt worn as shirt" also feel true. the key point is that it has to look like he bought it at walmart for less than ten dollars. will wear it until it disintegrates.
not really a guy who accessorizes either, unless wearing his headphones around his neck counts.
rarely wearing shoes. holes in every single one of his socks.
orange is my preferred flight suit color for how it visually suggests eiffel traded one prison for another. needless to say, maybe, he should never be wearing it properly. usually tied around his waist, but he pretty much never wears long sleeves - even if he has the sleeves on, they're always rolled way up.
