Undoubtedly, even if he isn’t particularly fond of bug Pokemon. It’s you now, and his fondness for you overrides his dislike. He would built you an intricate terrarium in his studio. Now you have no choice but to listen to him all day everyday. Not that you ever minded to begin with.

Grusha

Why would you become a Wurmple? I mean, of course he would love you, but why did you become on in the first place? Were you cursed? It would make it really hard on him. The climate of Glaseado Mountain isn’t fit for Wurmple, so don’t go angering any witches.

Tulip

Oh. Well. Are you sapient in there? Aware of your surroundings? When you frown at her, she huffs. You know she doesn’t like bug Pokemon. But, she wouldn’t abandon you. She isn’t sure she would be able to give you the care you need so she would bring you to a specialist and visit you when she could. Comforts you after. Her answer is not satisfactory.

Duh, she’d love you no matter what. It helps that she likes Wurmple too. They’re adorable, just like you. Rika would carry you on her shoulder wherever she goes, and honestly, would like to have you travel sized and cute. She calls you her dream purse dog for the next week or so.

Hassel

Immediately worries about your safety. Did something happen to make you believe you’d transform into a Wurmple? Hassel is sure that’s not possible. You tell him to just answer the question. Hassel loves you no matter what form you take, your heart will always be the same. That is what he fell in love with. Cheeseball.

Jacq

Yes! He would always. And, he’d love to study you. Just a little. A human transforming into a Pokemon would be a fascinating thing to look into. It’s not like it’s a common occurrence. He’s a Pokemon professor, you can’t blame him for being curious. Besides, that’s what would make him perfectly suited to take care of you. No one understands you, or Pokemon, like Jacq. Inside and out.

Larry

Of course he would. He would carry you around with him everywhere and bring a bucket of your favorite fruits and veggies for you to eat if you were hungry. When you decided to seek out a career in being an instructor, not once did you think that you would wind up with a job to teach at Mesagoza’s well-known academy. 

Clavell was more than pleased to welcome you to the faculty. You were invited to come to the academy and get familiar with the place before the new school year commenced. 

During that visit, you came across some of your new colleagues, who all happily introduced themselves and offered to show you around the academy. All of them were incredibly kind, but you found your gaze continuously gravitating towards one in particular.

The slightly disheveled, easy-going man who looked like he’d appreciate a quick nap.

 From the moment that his eyes landed on you, he smiled softly and greeted you with a cute, “Hello, hello!”

After that visit, you two started to become closer to one another. It was far too easy to fall into long conversations with him. Which only started to become a bit of a problem when you would both realize that you’re running late to your own classes. 

Speaking of your class, you teach Pokemon Handling. The ways to care for various types of Pokemon and what’s necessary to ensure they live healthy lives.

There are times where your lessons branch off to the biology aspects of these Pokemon types, which leads to you and Jacq planning lessons to do joint classes. 

It doesn’t take long for the students to pick up on how you stare at Jacq, most likely the most interested in his rambling, when he starts to get into specifics and the way that Jacq looks more energized and at peace when you’re stepping in to share your own knowledge.

This has led to these students coming up with theories about you two. A lot of speculations arise, questions going on whether you two were even interested in men. Regardless, there are those that compare the way you two are to Hassel and Brassius, which only spawns in more discussions on your guys’ relationship.

Of course, students being students, they attempt to ask in what they believe are subtle ways. Anytime Jacq asks if anyone has any questions, he’s surprised to see the amount of hands going on when he’s been accustomed to them being more prepared to leave over anything else.

There are no words to describe the shock that washed over him when the question pertained to you and whether he likes you. Of course, he’s chuckling lightly while he runs his fingers through his already messy hair as he struggles to come up with a response. 

No, he’s not surprised that his students managed to pick up on his growing feelings. They’re a smart bunch and very observant. Maybe a bit too observant for their own good.

He’ll try to direct the conversation back to the topic on hand though he does mention that he likes you very much, in a platonic sense (not that any of his students believe that part) and considers you to be a brilliant instructor.

The rumors only grow faster once that happened.

If you thought it was only your students attempting to meddle however they can then you’d be very mistaken. The other faculty start to get involved as well in their own ways.

Salvatore offers cute phrases in other languages to say, and Saguaro talks a lot about how you and Jacq should go out on a picnic and the many sandwiches you could make together. 

Once you both start dating, it’s as if everyone in the academy can tell. Many of the students are happy to see two of their favorite instructors with each other, especially when they caught on that they were crushing beforehand. The other faculty members tease you both for doing the slightest bit of affection in the lounge room.

Every time you head into the lounge room, you always have a second drink just for Jacq. And each time, he will thank you by pressing a gentle kiss to your temple.

There are moments where he feels so tired but one glance at you gives him the motivation to get through the rest of the day. He greatly appreciates that you’re able to sense when his internal battery is dwindling down and welcomes the cuddles that you initiate with him. Expect to have plenty of dates that involve napping together.

You’re the one to make sure that he doesn’t drown himself in his research. Jacq has the tendency to lose track of time, unless he has something scheduled with you, so you’re often the one that your other colleagues ask to go find him to pull him out of his work.

Anytime he discovers something new, you’re the first person he turns to. You always listen to him attentively. He does the same in return whenever you get in a rambling mood, especially when you’re caring for your or his Pokemon and talk about some fun facts about little quirks or things that the Pokemon like. 

Whenever he catches you battling for any reason, whether you’re helping him with his research or you’re both simply out and about, he’s always in awe at your strength. 

The second that you turn around to return back to him, he’s staring at you with such a tender look on his face. “That’s my boyfriend!” He praises, eyes closing as he smiles at you. Your strength and Pokemon is a wonder and he will never get tired of watching you.

Upon hearing her name being called out in the crowd, Celeste turned around to see who it was that addressed her.

Orange. That was all that she saw as her body froze in place. Celeste could see that it was Hassel who was calling out to her. But for a few seconds, that wasn't who she saw. Celeste for those moments saw her own father; the man who she got her eye color from, the man who hurt her, the monster Celeste had overheard her mother wishing that she wouldn't become.

Knowing that the Academy instructor and Elite Four member had a near identical shade in eye color had set off all red flags.

Seems that this festival would also set back the trust that Celeste had been trying to develop with the teacher.

"H-Hi Mr. Hassel...!" Celeste greeted; she was still wearing her lilac colored face mask while still in recovery mode. Her skin had nearly regained what color it had, so her sickness would be mostly dealt with before the next day. "It's a surprise...to see you here...!"

In Relation to Canon - Paldea

Just like I did for Lorenz, here is a list of canon characters Ignacio has a common history with. It is far from complete , and a lot is subject to change as the DLCs are revealed and released.

Like I said when I made similar posts for other muses, this of course only concerns myself and I will never force any of these pre-established relationships on others without asking.

Director Harrington: Harrington was the director when Ignacio was a student at the Academy. As one of the top students of his year, he often got to meet the guy directly, and it played in his favor when he was offered a position as battling instructor in his early twenties. He has enough respect for the dude, although he finds him a bit too soft.  

Team Star: A lot of students tried to report the Academy's various harassment and bullying incidents to him back when he was a teacher. His reaction was usually to call the victims paranoid little shit-stirrers and side with the bullies. He called it "weeding out the weak", and he probably isn't fondly remembered by most members of Team Star because of this...  

Cassiopea: Unlike most of the other teachers who fully acknowledged their failings and resigned, Ignacio fought tooth and nail to keep his position, after all he was a great battling instructor. He only changed his mind when he received an email containing oddly specific and highly personal information... He might want to make the person behind that anonymous blackmailing attempt regret ever revealing her true identity to the world someday.  

Hassel: Ignacio doesn't quite consider him his friend but he holds him in high regards, on account of their similar backgrounds and affinity with Dragon Pokémon. He fully agrees on his decision to keep his family estranged, although he doesn't exactly share his fascination with the fine arts...  

Geeta: As a Champion-ranked trainer, Ignacio has met Geeta on many occasions. Many believe the reason behind his year-long disappearance to be a humiliating loss against her, as he challenged her for the position of Top Champion. Their match was utterly one-sided, she wiped the floor with the rest of his team. He still has trouble accepting his loss, and suspects foul play on her part.

Dendra Iwai doesn't cry very often--the last time she truly sobbed was during the fallout over her devastating karate injury--but as she sits alone on a bench in Alfornada with the aching feeling of homesickness crashing over her repeatedly like a terrible wave, the sniffling Paldean newcomer swipes at her eyes, hot tears cascading down her temples.

She felt so alone here.

As a new instructor assigned to the region's most prestigious academy, Dendra was almost immediately looked down upon by her more senior colleagues, professors who scoffed at her youth, inexperience, childish pep, and Battle Studies as a whole. There were exceptions to this rule, of course (Hassel, Saguaro, etc.) but the Academy's 'old guard' routinely twisted the former superathlete's professional life in a passive-aggressive hell.

Outside of the school, Dendra found little respite--the Pokemon of the area were unfamiliar to her, resulting in some close calls (a barely-missed Tauros charge scorching her favorite jacket, a screeching Annihilape chasing her into the next town over with pure rage burning in its eyes, among others...) But, work life and new injuries aside, Dendra was soul-crushingly lonely, so new to Paldea that she didn't know where to turn for help. She missed the support of her mother and father. She missed the guidance of Chuck and Master Kiyo. (Her old PokeGear didn't pick up much of a signal out here...)

She didn't make a hard-earned recovery from her karate injury just to live life like this.

Suddenly, Dendra is pulled out of her miserable reverie with a gentle hand on her back, a soft cloth dabbing at her tear-soaked cheeks. She looks up, and her jaw falls open slightly, face flushing somewhat as the instructor gets her first look at Tulip, Leader of the nearby Alfornada Gym. Dendra hesitantly introduces herself as well, face flushing as the doting fashionista continues to fuss over her. This situation is certainly embarrassing, but something about Tulip--maybe its her emotional perceptibility, maybe its simply the lavender scent of her pocket cloth--puts the new teacher completely at ease. Yes, something about this meeting just feels right.

Tulip asks the right questions, and Dendra--ever the open book--falls apart almost instantly, laying out her journey, accomplishments...and all of her insecurities. And yet, Tulip never judges her once, even opening up a little in turn. Before either of them know what has happened, hours have passed on this little Alfornada bench. It's just been them talking, reminiscing...complete with gasps, laughter and vulnerability.

As the sunset begins to hang low over the magenta horizon--Tulip reaches out to squeeze the battle-worn hand of her newest friend. For her part, Dendra feels better already, a massive weight lifted off her chest following this (lucky!) chance encounter. With her confidence returning, the rookie instructor raises a pinkie in the air, and Tulip does the rest without hesitation, her manicured, polished nails glittering as she completes the swear with a laugh that makes Dendra's heart swell. It's the start of a beautiful friendship (one that eventually convinces Dendra to stay in Paldea for good) and a mutual promise sealed with a childlike vow, one that they haven't broken since that fateful evening. I'm so glad I met you.

Now that my longest-ever fanfic is done and posted, I realized I needed to do one more thing to truly purge it from my system: Make a "meet the OCs" post!

Let's meet those OCs!

Before we begin: I must admit to being generally anti-OC in my reading and writing. It's not personal, it's just that I came to read about a certain set of characters and their relationships with each other, not some strange character I've never heard of before. However, I feel like readers can tell when something is half-hearted, so I tried my best to use the OCs unapologetically and to not brush over them in the narration.

Let's begin

Jayce & Janiyah (he/him & she/her)

Janiyah is the older sister, slightly younger than Hassel. I felt bad for not giving her more of a personality, but her whole deal is kind of that she diminishes herself in service of the clan. She's supposed to represent Hassel's "bad ending," so to speak.

Jayce and Janiyah are both Blasian, or the Pokémon equivalent, and I based Jayce's personality in particular on the "Vancouver Asian" archetype— in love with the city, always getting bubble tea, avid mallwalker.

Most Picrew are not super compatible with wacky Pokémon character design, but I pictured them both wearing brighter colors and bolder patterns— Janiyah in particular wears a lot of orange and red.

NOTE: I got extremely lost in the "let characters of color have brown eyes, dammit" sauce and kind of forgot that making every single dark-skinned character have dark hair and dark eyes in a world where odd-colored eyes and hair are totally normal might circle back around to having weird implications. Fanfic is not representation, but I just wanted to point out that I knowwww I know okay I know.

Asahi (they/them)

Asahi is the most "nothing" of my OCs; essentially a lazy self-insert to imply more life in the Arts District. They were originally called "Ace," which is a placeholder name I use online, and they look almost exactly like me at age 19 or so. I changed their name because I decided having a character named "Jayce" and a character named "Ace" was unbearably Dr Seuss for a serious fic. Them saying "aces" to Hassel is a shoutout to their original name.

Brenna (she/her/any)

For having such a simple design, it was really hard to find a Picrew that captured the entirety of her essence. She has true brown hair and yellow eyes, for reference.

I made a separate post about her that you might be able to dig up, but the essentials are thus: she's a big ol' powerdyke, she LOVES clowning, and she absolutely despises Geeta

NOTE: Brenna's feelings are not a secret commentary on my own feelings for Geeta. I ADORE her. We shall have a summer wedding.

Joel (he/they)

I also couldn't find a satisfactory Picrew for Joel. He's a bit older than this image would imply and he ONLY ever wears his conductor's cap.

I did my best as an allistic to write him as autistic. He's an electrician and his special interest is model trains (stereotypical, yes, but that's actually the result of me projecting my own love of model trains onto him! I fucking love model trains).

Taiho (he/him)

Taiho is a young sumo instructor from Kanto. I didn't spend any more time on him than the others, but his lore just popped into my head, so he has slightly more backstory.

Taiho's dream was always to open his own sumo school and bring the art to as many people as possible. Geeta knew him previously and, when she became Champion, recruited him with the promise of helping secure a grant to open up a sumo school in Paldea.

Lennon (she/her)

Don't let the Picrews fool you, Lennon was a silver-haired anime girl from day one. Picture it in a gradient from silver to black, the silver gradually overtaking the tips as she got older.

Lennon is another placeholder name I use online. Tbh she and Brenna are tied for my favorite OCs.

Stan (any pronouns)

Stan is That Cool Librarian. We all know one. That's all I got.

NOTE: You may have noticed a discrepancy in the pronouns listed vs the pronouns used in the fic and I'm gonna be sooo honest with you: a bitch was just tired. My first pronouns struggle was trying to figure out if I should use "he" or "it" on Gyarados and by the time I got that worked out I was simply done. So everyone gets one unambiguous pronoun and that's IT.
