problem:
I am lactose intolerant
I also have memory issues/amnesia from brain issues and dissociation
I also live with a family who is largely not lactose intolerant because they lucked out with those genes alongside the lack of melanin
This means there is always dairy around for me to eat
And I regularly forget I am lactose intolerance (memory issues)
And I reguarly forget that I have lactaid which I could take (memory issues)
And I regularly forget to take lactaid even if I remember it exists
And I if I remember I should take lactaid before having dairy I don't take it because:
a) executive dysfunction
b) when i see dairy i am like "rip to past me suffering from lactose intoletance but I'm different"
c) i suffer from the belief that i don't actually have any medical condition and that im probably secretly unconsciously faking medical conditions to the point that even if a dr is like "hey maybe try not having dairy, it seems you might have lactose intolerance" i still think "they only think that because I've somehow lied and manipulated them and i didn't tell them every single thing about my life so they're wrong" so despite the contrary evidence i do not belief i have lactose intolerance
d) i have never thought ahead about anything in my life, ever
IN CONCLUSION
tummy hurty :(

Candy Review
Tonys Chocolonely, Dark Milk Chocolate with Pretzel and Tofee
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tony's is one of the more ethical chocolate companies, as they dont use slave labor.
However, I have not been able to find a flavor i quite enjoy yet. I'm lactose intoletant, and that has evolved my taste buds. Dark chocolate is my favorite variety, and I thought this would really enjoy this one! However, this is dark MILK chocolate, and so i didnt enjoy it as much. Roo creamy and not rich enough.
I will say, though, the pretzel and tofee were nice additions! The salt and crunch are great additions to the flacor and texture profile.
The shape of the bar is very unique. I definitely prefer this smaller size over the larger one, but the bar in the middle makes it a little hard to break off some of the peices.
Overall, it was an alright experience, but personally, I'm not gonna buy this flavor again.
Result: Okay.

focus on matrilineal descent is super weird to me because like, yeah, sure, i’m matrilineally jewish but I legitimately didn’t know that until I was in middle school. my mom technically being jewish really hasn’t been notable for most of my life because her mom wasn’t raised religiously jewish and neither was she, while we see my dad’s jewish extended family fairly often and his relatives are way more involved in jewish life than my mom’s relatives. like my dad isn’t even jewish by... most people’s standards but his side of the family is definitely how I feel connected. what’s up with that!

All Buses Lead to Rome: Fall Break Day 5
After a brutal early start at 5 am followed by a forty minute metro and hour long shuttle ride to the airport, we were finally on our way from Paris to Rome. We flew Ryanair, which doesn't have the best reputation, and is known to rack on extra fines and fees if you don't read the regulations thoroughly. Fortunately I did read the regulations thoroughly and our flight went smoothly. It was only an hour and a half flight from Paris to Rome, and I got a gorgeous view of the Mediterranean from my window seat. Once we arrived in Rome we had a slight moment of frustration (okay like half an hour of frustration) in which the transport ticket machine wasn't working right and we couldn't figure out which bus we had to take. But it all got sorted out and we got on the right bus that would take us into the city.
Italy feels like California. Not really in the way it looks, and cetainly not in the culture, but the air and the abundance of sun feel exactly like home. I guess I know now what people mean when they say that we live in a Mediterranean climate. It was sunny and warm and gorgeous, and on the bus ride into the city we passed vineyards and farms and villas, all of them picturesque and exactly what you think of when you think of Italy. Once we got into the city we were also thrilled to find a much cleaner metro than the one in Paris. It took awhile to get to the hostel, but the hostel itself is clean and in a very central location.
We were pretty tired after all of the travelling, but after a rest in the hostel we set out to find food and the Trevi fountain. We ate in a little pizza place not far from the hotel. Turns out pizza here is cut in squares and is on a crispy thinner crust. Also it's delicious. I got some with herbs and some spicy pepper flakes with cheese and tomato. Then it was a short metro ride to the Trevi fountain.
Immediately I noticed that despite the numerous tourists, Rome feels more relaxed than Paris. There's a certain ease about it that I appreciate after the intensity of navigating the vast expanse of Paris. The Trevi fountain is way bigger than I expected it to be, and is stunning of course. There were a ton of tourists, but it wasn't that hard to get to the front of the fountain and take some nice pictures. Obviously I threw in a coin and made a wish (but I'm not telling). After taking some pictures we stopped for our first out of what will probably many servings of gelato. I got a mix of chocolate and caramel. After the gelato it was a short walk to the Spanish steps, which were crowded but certainly not intoletable. These were smaller than I expected, but the church at the top was lovely and we were there at sunset which we watched for a bit while sitting on the steps.
After the Spanish steps we went back to the hostel to rest before dinner, and then set out on the hunt for PASTA. We didn't want to venture too far because we were tired, and ended up in a little place around the corner next to the pizza shop we ate in earlier. Rome is (thank goodness) a cheaper city than Paris, and we got a fried cheese appetizer, wine, and pasta for a pretty reasonable price. I had a yummy vegetable lasagna that was very rich but very delicious. Now I think I'll slip into a food coma and go to sleep. Tomorrow we're going to Vatican City, which means a full day of walking and crowds. One day in Rome down, three to go!
