I agree with this, and if Wenclairs were more honest, they would admit they agree with it as well.

The two tags I see the most with Wenclair are “Gomezification of Wednesday” and “Wednesday is soft for Enid.” It’s clear they’re aware that Wednesday HAS to go through a total change in order to be compatible with Enid.

It's more than just being colourful and perky. They are diametrically incompatible on several levels.

It always gives me kind of an ick to see these tags and how they have Wednesday go above and beyond her canon personality in order to force fit her with Enid. And it’s never the other way around. There’s no “Enid goes hard for Wednesday” or the “de-cringification or introvertification of Enid.”

Why does Wednesday have to be the one to change? What’s wrong with her the way she is?

One of Wednesday’s biggest gripes is that she resents her parents because she in under the impression they want her to be like them.

She specifically bitched about this several times.

So, what do the Wenclairs do? They turn her into her parents. They do the exact thing Wednesday was dreading.

Wednesday outright says she doesn’t want to get married nor have children.

Enid says Werewolves are social and have family packs. Enid’s biggest fear is to be cast out. “My life would officially be over! I’d be kicked out of the family pack, with no prospect of finding a mate.” (Wednesday’s Child if Full of Woe, Ep. 1.)

Enid wants the opposite of what Wednesday canonically desires.

I find it condescending and so offputting that Wenclairs see Wednesday’s lack of desire to marry and have children is only because “she hasn’t found the right person.” Gross. They treat wanting to be child free and not seeing marriage as a given as some phase.

One of the “arguments” I see for Wenclair is that Enid never asks Wednesday to change. But clearly in all their headcanons and fanfics, Wednesday has to become completely different in order to love Enid.

In terms of potential compatibility, I always thought Xavier was the best fit. We didn’t get to see a lot of his personality shine through because of pacing and it was only 8 episodes. But I do think there were intentions of giving him a bigger role if not for extenuating circumstances. Namely because of the teleplay of Episode 1. This is not the final script, but it was what was given in order for the Powers That Be to greenlight the series. There is also the fact that Xavier and Wednesday had their own theme song on the soundtrack. (Youtube, last visited 05/10/2024).

Xavier fits Tim Burton’s leading man aesthetic.

In terms of canonical compatibility, we did see a lot of hints that they had a lot in common that could have been explored in S2 when Wednesday wasn’t obsessed with the mystery of the monster.

They’re both artists. He paints, she writes. They both have an artistic passion that they dedicate a lot of time to.

He had a dedicated shed where he painted alone. I think he appreciates alone time, whereas Enid needs to be around people. I think he would have been more than happy to give Wednesday her space and used “quiet hour” to paint while she wrote.

He’s also a Psychic from a wealthy family that also knows the Addams family. He had good advice on psychic abilities if only Wednesday actually listened to him and accepted help.

He was willing to give her space. The one time he followed her, she was actually in danger. She had passed out, lost in a psychic vision and who knew what could happen to her. Others call it stalking, but I think we need to remember he’s psychic and could have sensed something was wrong. Every other time they meet, SHE’S the one invading his space or coming to him. He mistook HER STALKING of him as interest and once it was clear she was just using him, he told her to fuck off as he had every right to.

Unlike Enid, we don’t know for sure his desires for the future. I think he has the potential to agree with Wednesday to live a child free life that doesn’t include marriage. He clearly resents his father’s absenteeism and could be turned off of children because of it.

He could be the perfect match for her in order to live a DINK lifestyle.

The same can also be said of Tyler and Bianca.

Perhaps Tyler would refrain from having children in order to not pass on the Hyde.

Bianca could get that wealthy, socialite lifestyle she currently pretends to have. She and Wednesday could travel the world, free from the shackles of parenthood.

Enid is honestly the LAST person Wednesday (as she is and not the “Gomez” they project onto her) should end up with.

I just don’t find them very compatible.

As you all know. I’m a wyler and waiver shipper. However. If I were to ship Wednesday with another girl. It would be Bianca. I jury can’t see Wednesday with someone with Enid’s level of colourful perkiness. Tyler’s got that darkness in him. Xavier has the advantage of knowing her family. Bianca matches her attitude. And if there’s one thing that lucifer taught me it’s that sometimes the “chalk and cheese opposites attract” thing just doesn’t work. And in my opinion you can’t get much more opposite than Wednesday and Enid. So for future reference. No. I do not ship wenclair. I just don’t find them very compatible. Wyler, wavier and wenclay are much more my speed.

First off, thank you so much to everyone who showed interest in the chat. I was overwhelmed with the amount of support and interest from everyone. I was hardly expecting anyone to apply, let alone 40+ people. Unfortunately, that meant I couldn’t pick everyone. In the end it mostly came down to who I thought would be compatible and app choice.
