The hardest lesson I've learned so far in my life (especially the last 2 years) is that sometimes you have to walk away from people. It doesn't mean they are bad people, or that I'm a failure, or that I'm trying to teach them a lesson. I wish the best for the few people I've walked away from. It's simply a matter of doing what is best for me. It takes a lot for me to get to the point of cutting someone out of my life. As long as someone is kind to me and looks out for me, I will be their friend forever. I know I can be insufferable at times and need to be called out on that. But I will no longer tolerate outright mean comments about how I'm ugly, unwanted, unwelcomed, etc. or the people who laugh along or enable that kind of behavior towards me. I'd rather be socially isolated than endure that. I am not a social person. It's difficult for me to have more than a few close friends. I'm no good at casual friendships or small talk. It takes a lot for me to be brave enough to call someone a friend. I assume most people don't like me enough to want to be my friend. I put a lot of importance and invest a lot in the friendships I have; which is why I have so few. That makes it harder to walk away.
