Sooo, a few hours ago, I watched "Nimona" with my little sister. AND, it was good, it's quite depressing though. Cause when my mom asked about it, I was like, "We just saw it! It's really good however... it is a bit sad and there are clearly a few plot twists (rants about it for a bit) and yeah..." And yet- people perceive him differently. Some see him as an ESTP, some see him as an ESTJ, and some (I'd argue a majority) see him as an ISTP

ESFP - Very cheerful and social, cares a lot about people's opinion and fashion

ESTP - Quite social and a bit arrogant but can be kind and helpful to loved ones

ISFP - Adventurous, artistic, tends to hide their feelings and are kind

ISTP - Also adventurous, tends to care a lot about nature and seems insensitive and uncaring but really just lack the emotional intelligence to express that they care about others, Everyone either simps for them or hate them

ESFJ - Very social, enjoy helping others and very kind but can be insane and violent when they want to

ESTJ - Hardworking, not very emotional, perfectionistic and basically every teacher's favourite student

ISFJ - Enjoy helping, smart, very kind, loyal and empathetic

ISTJ - Hardworking, seems quite serious but can be funny and kind sometimes

I'm kinda jumping onto Pios recent post about Yashiki and Mashita's characterization and adding my own thoughts to it I guess, I'm not the best at translating my own to an understandable language and I'm not smart enough for academic analysis so bear with me (not that it matters, I'm talking about two fictional men here lol)

I am talking about MBTI below, so if you're not into that, you can just skip this lol

Basically I'm going to preface this by telling you, the reader, that I used to dip my toes into MBTI, it's basically new age zodiac signs, they're just for fun, you're supposed to take it with a grain of salt, as people are ever changing and don't fit into specific boxes, which makes this perfect for fictional characters and the like. (I'm INFP btw, and might interject with my typing to show contrast to other types, specifically INTP cause I'm around that one the most.)

There's a website that lets people vote on what they think a character's mbti is, and they get surprisingly analytical about it, pretty neat. Anyways, the DM characters have votes, and specifically for the two I'm talking about:

Yashiki was voted INTP 5w6

Mashita was voted ISTP 8w9

and honestly, this is a pretty fair assessment.

And I can actually relate this more personally, because I have people in my life who are INTP and ISTP, so I have something to compare to.

Let me start with Yashiki first: INTP

So the INTP personality type is considered The Logician (Introverted, intuitive, thinking, perceiving)

INTP are types that normally can't let a mystery go unsolved, and can even find themselves lost within their heads thinking up solutions to problems (opposite of my type, INFP, who finds myself lost in imagination and daydreams) These types are always thinking. Constantly. Whether it's for problem solving, or just trying to figure out how the world around them works, they're in their element when they can exercise their brain, especially when they are alone.

So you think out of the two of them, Yashiki would be the brains, right? So why does he seem incompetent in the games? (Other than crappy writing.)

Another aspect of the INTP personality type is a fear of being helpless, dependant, or seen as incompetent. If it's bad enough, this can turn into a self fulfilling prophecy, which in turn fuels their fear.

Death Mark 2 became Yashiki's personal hell. And can explain why he started pushing those close to him away. INTP's are very emotionally private people, they won't just confide in the people around them so easily, no matter the affiliation, opting to just hold everything inside until they eventually breakdown (same as INFP) but this in turn still fuels their fear of being dependent when others try to comfort them, so it ends up being a lose-lose situation (if you can't tell, personalities tend to be formed by how you're raised, this typing is most likely formed by constantly being made to feel useless in childhood unfortunately, which lines up with how Yashiki grew up.)

(uhhhh. My brain is running on empty for this part, I'm moving on to Mashita now.)

Mashita's typing: ISTP (funny little tidbit, but just like how they share VAs, Mashita and Akira also share typings, thought that was interesting.)

ISTP is considered the Virtuoso (Introverted, sensing, thinking, perceiving)

These are types that are very hands-on and are level-headed in stressful situations. They are quite reliable to get a job done.....on their own time.

ISTP's are a typing that is normally said to be one of the hardest to get along with, as they can also be extremely spontaneous, and tend to just do whatever they want while disregarding others feelings on the matter.

But just like INTP's they also don't like leaving problems unsolved, and have quite an intolerance for injustice, very much liking fairness (even if it's in a "you hit me, I hit you back" kind of way) It shows through how he denounces anything to do with the police force for trying to hide the death of his senior.

Now, the fear of an ISTP is being hurt or controlled by someone else. It shows through how he leaves after chapter 2 once he's able to solve the death of his senior, his senior meant a lot to him and he probably inadvertently saw some of him in Yashiki, he leaves so he doesn't have to feel hurt again, only coming back in chapter 6 and DM2 to knock some sense into Yashiki later cause he sees how both spirits and people alike are trying to hurt and control him and he doesn't want that for him. It's how he shows he cares, even if the others around him don't see it that way. He tells Yashiki not to care about the feelings of spirits because it's his own fears and insecurities bleeding through, his senior cared too much which led to his death, and Yashiki would have died if he hadn't made it in time. He can't handle feeling hurt so he hides it behind indifference.

Why he volunteers Yashiki to do more spirit cases even though they both don't want to? Probably because he doesn't want what happened to his senior to happen to more people. It's selfish, yes, but he uses that to fuel his innate sense of justice.

(there's probably more I could add, especially about dlc chapter 7 but that's still in spoiler territory, and I've filled out my thinking quota for today, I'll add links to those personality types so you can read through and think about them.)

An only child born to parents who didn’t want her and didn’t love each other. When it became apparent Ellie had no magical abilities, they cast her out as a Squib.
