Ohmygoodness, you guys, I finally finished my concept art for my big Thiam project and this is the introduction to my latest AU. (This is just the beginning, so I hope you are ready for a bit of a ride. 😅) I am so happy for you all to finally meet my little mer!Theo. 🥺 & Welcome to; A Call from the Ocean Summary; Liam Dunbar likes to think he's just your average, everyday, twenty-two year old guy. A College student majoring in history. Captain and star of the swim team. And seemingly just a happy go lucky person. But if only life were that simple. And for Liam, living with his disorder is anything but. Not everyone will and can understand what it's like living with IED. Forced to explain his outbursts of what others see as irrational anger and feeling like a freak. Liam finds solace and peace in one place. The ocean. He's felt the pull of the sea for as long as he can remember and it's like a second home to him. But could there be something else that calls Liam to the waters edge? Something more that lurks beneath the waves? And somewhere deep under the surface of that very ocean is where Theo calls home. An outcast of his kind, a survivor despite the odds being against him and leader of his small pod of three. Theo wonders if there could ever be more to his cold, painful existence. Theo would give anything to know that there is something out there better than this. ..... A few things about this AU, I love mermaids/merpeople and have always been fascinated by them. So, I really couldn't resist making an AU for my all time favorite OTP. And when I imagined Theo as a mer, I fell in love with him and I just couldn't get him out of my head. I jumped all in and let it consume me for months. 😅 Waiting until MERMAY to finally post him. 💜 I had a lot of fun with his design and I didn't want 'frilly Disney mermaid' vibes. I wanted Theo to be beautiful, of course. But I also wanted him to be just a little bit terrifying. 😅 like, yes, he could rip your throat out and drown you before you can even scream, but he would look so pretty while he does it that you may just thank him for the experience. 😅🤣 Also, yes, I did one of his concept arts twice because I wanted to show the fact that parts of Theo are bioluminecent. I mean, c'mon, Bioluminecense is one of the most beautiful and magical things about the ocean, so it only felt right to make him that way. So I did a 'night' version but I still wanted you to be able to see the colors of his fans in both kinds of lighting. Last but never least, I have a few people that I really need to give a shoutout to for this AU. I was truly nervous about it, so I decided to reach out to a few of the wonderful friends I have made on here to get their thoughts and opinions. I honestly couldn't have made this peice if it wasn't for you all because your feedback and support has been vital for this. -Eldritch Monster AU! Hermits are all Lovecraftian horrors who all individually decided that they wanted to pretend to be normal and are all trying to hide their otherworldliness. I also feel like Mumbo or X or someone as the one actually "normal" player on the server would work well. Most hermits don't know that everyone else isn't normal either, but some find out about friends maybe.

-Rabid Debate Club AU :: Random weird au idea where it's basic hs/uni au but like two of them try to start a debate club, then invite some friends just so there's enough people; cut to like two months later, it's all the hermits just fighting over whether or not pineapple should go on pizza or not lol it isn't very good i'm sorry but ya know rabid debate club AU.

-Animal/shapeshifting AU :: (Suggested Twice.) Every hermit can shapeshift into one token animal. (If it's something like "dog," they can only turn into one breed and color of dog, EXAMPLE: doc can shift into a black sable belgian malinois, but not anything else.)

-Wedding Planners AU :: Hermits work in various unrelated businesses such as a bakery, flower shop, etc., but see each other semi-often bc they're semi-often called upon to work together by another hermit's wedding planning business (obvs if you couldn't tell i know absolutely nothing abt wedding planning & businesses n shit lol but it's the /concept/ of it yannknow)

-Avatar: The Last Air Bender AU. (Suggested Thrice.)

-Adventure Time AU :: The hermits live in a post-apocalyptic world and the Lich (bad guy) is making everything decay. They need to gather all the gems (belt colours) to unlock the Enchiridion (a book) and have one wish each granted from Prismo (multiverse wish granting dude) before the Lich does. Only 4 elements can enter the multiverse: Slime (The Lich & Jevin), Redstone (Tango or Mumbo?), Ice (Stress), and Dirt (Grian, much to his dismay). Only the elementals can see the book. Grian's the protagonist with his sidekick Scar. He originally started collecting the belts because they were shiny but eventually decided to read the book and find out what they were for when Scar said he didn't see it. Doc, False, and Iskall are major obstacles because they don't believe the book exists.</p>

-Terraria-Minecraft Fusion AU :: Who chooses what class? what events do each hermit prefer? how to they deal with the world infections? preferred biomes? Favourite NPCS? It has potentiallllll.

-Demi-God AU :: Sort of like percy jackson (everyone being the children of different gods from all different cultures.)

-Marching Band AU :: Xisuma is the band major and all the show music is the remixes. I need to come up with some ideas for uniforms. Outfits and flags for the colorguard too.

-Different Eras AU :: (Suggested Twice.) All the hermits are from different time periods or eras. Like Wels is from the mediveal/dark era, Mumbo is from 1890-1920's, Iskall is from 2030, TFC is from 2020(?), Cleo is from 2130, etc!!! Like the mobs/animals became feused with humans, is when the mob players came from.

-Star Trek AU :: Like maybe they could be on one ship and each have different roles like engineers or doctors? I don’t know if this has been suggested but hope you enjoy! - 🐦

-House Mates AU :: ApartmentAU but scaled down?

-Atlantis AU :: (Could be merged with Mermaid AU???)

-Fighting Game AU :: Some influences would be Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Ultra Instinct, that kind of stuff.

-Magic AU :: Magic exists and all the hermits have powers. They can also summon a weapon but what that weapon is depends on the hermit. I'm thinking it'll take place in a sort-of Demise 2 in S7 with a big war. So far I've got: Grian - Cloning himself to his different personas (each has a different power). Xisuma - Making barriers, teleporting, and transforming into different mobs. Scar - Making mutant plants & boosting other hermits' attack & health. (-@datsaltyperson.)

-Demon AU :: Something enters the overworld and turns into a supernatural style-demon through Dimentional Distortion. Who gets posessed first, who goes crazy, and who actually kills it? Honestly I think that, if anything, Tango would know how to gank it, for obvious reasons. (-@fireflower-dusk.)

-High Street AU :: Everyone owns a different shop on the same street or some run a shop together (-@violets-arepurple.)

-Cat AU :: Either they're were always cats, or Hels turned everyone, including himself, into a cat, and they have to survive and overcome challenges in the Season 7 world. An example of a challenge would be Cub's a Sand Cat(the cats that always look like kittens no matter how old they are and live in deserts), and everyone's not sure if he can actually swim, so they have to find a way for him to get around without involving water. -How about a secret AU.. Every hermit has their big secrets and when Grian joined. He doesn't really know anything about those secrets even till season 7. Not many hermits talked to him in S6 anyway.. Mumbo was the closest to him so they would have regular chats For Iskall is mostly business related things Grian wants to know why so he set out on a quest to force the others to at least talk to him so he wouldn't be lonely. -Hermit Family AU :: Xisuma is very busy dad but when he isnt busy the kids and younger hermits annoying the hell out of him. Grian once asked to use Xisuma's computer and crashed the whole thing trying to download illegal gamesites and get money off the internet. Mermay 2020 Day 4: Adjustment Period

Coral was definitely a woman who loved her simple village life. She married Maury who lived to fish and worked on making their house a home. She gave birth to a son who was following in his father’s footsteps to become a fisherman as well. Though raising Ronan had its ups and downs. When he was a boy, Ronan loved looking for the oddest things to bring home. At first it was just odd shaped rocks and shells, but then she had to put her foot down when he started bringing animals home. Coral had hoped that he had grown out of that fascination when he got older.

But he just had to bring an honest to god mermaid home!!!

Now Coral wished that Ronan just brought in another two-legged cat again. At least you can look up ways to take care of such an animal. No such luck with mermaids. The young mermaid seemed rather intelligent but just awkward, no doubt confused by her surroundings. With it being so late, all Coral could do was to make the couch into a makeshift bed and see what sort of seafood they had to make a late supper.

Ida didn’t seem to mind. She loved the feeling of the blankets and was amazed with the electric blanket when she was shown how it worked.  Maury got to talk about how electricity works for a good hour as Ida thought it was just magic. Ronan showed her books and began teaching her how to read English. No doubt she was going to need some entertainment until they could find a solution to her mobility problem.

They enjoyed a meal of crab cakes and vegetables which they found that mermaids really love seafood. Ida explained that much of her diet consisted of seafood…raw seafood that is. Thankfully she enjoyed the cooked version. Coral was going to have to look into their food budget as they were going to have to get a lot more fish in the house. Maybe there was a place that delivered sushi somewhere.

It was the next morning, Ronan and Maury already left to get an early start on their daily fishing so that they could help Ida settle in later. Coral rose herself not too long afterwards and went to check on Ida. The mermaid was all wrapped up in the blankets sleeping soundly. Deciding to let the girl sleep, Coral went to set up an extravagant bath. Sooner or later Ida would notice the dried salt on her skin and her hair all messy and tangled. Looks like the first thing on the agenda was hair and skin care lessons.

Once that bath was full of hot water and bubbles, Coral went down to get breakfast going, breakfast fish tacos to be precise. Coral counted on the smell to rouse Ida so they could get their day going. Taking the finished plate, Coral placed the meal on the coffee table allowing the scent to fill the room. The effect was instantaneous, Ida sat upright wide awake.

“What smells amazing?!” Ida asked looking around.

“Breakfast my dear.” Coral held up the plate, “I bet you are hungry.”

The plate was completely spotless in minutes, “This is only my second meal on land…and already I think human cooking is the best thing in the world.”

“I’ll take those compliments to heart.” Coral smiled.

Ida then realized that there were some people missing, “Where are Ronan and Maury?”

“They went to the docks to get an early start to the day’s fishing.” Coral explained, “You see, fishermen need to work every day during the fishing season to make good money as the markets only buy fresh fish. If they catch too much in one day and it doesn’t sell, the fish could spoil and that’s wasted money.”

Ida nodded taking in the information, “And this is their work everyday?”

“There are some parts of the year where they don’t fish. Certain types of fish are only available in certain parts of the year. Also, it’s against the law to fish out of season. Fishing too much can hurt the fish population.”

Ida mulled over the information, “That explains why I see shadows of boats in only certain parts of the year. So this is a fishing day for them?”

“It is. But since they got an early start, they’ll come back early. Ronan was really excited to spend more time with you.” Coral teased.

A small blush creeped across Ida’s face. “So…what do I do now?”

“First things first, you are getting a bath.” Coral continued knowing Ida was going to ask more questions, “A bath is a necessity for living on land as we are not constantly in the water. You’re probably feeling the dry salt on your skin and you’re gonna have to learn how to take care of your hair.”

Ida held up the now rather tangled mane of her hair, “I suppose so.”

“My dear…let me introduce you to the wonder of bath time.” Coral grinned.

Let’s just say that Ida was in the bath for a good two hours. Turns out mermaids had no idea that water could be hot or could make bubbles. It took some time for Coral to help Ida scrub every inch of her as well as under her scales. Then it was time to tame the massive head of hair. Coral didn’t bother trying to time how long it took to detangle the hair, but she did use up her entire bottle of detangler spray. Fortunately, Coral knew how to tie the tightest of braids securing each strand then rolling it all up into a bun.

Ida was certainly impressed, “I never knew you could do all of this with hair.”

“I’ll be more than happy to teach you but first….” Coral slammed a huge stack of books onto the table, “Lessons on living on land.”

Old enough to know better, young enough to let go of all the inhibitions and still do it anyway... . I cant believe im already at the midlife of my life - if i im lucky enough to reach 70 yo at this lifetime. Aigooo. . Overwhelmed with all the greetings and nostalgic photos that showed my evolution (physically and emotionally)throughout the years. Indeed God has blessed me with an amazing family who took the time to prepare my all time favorite homemade meals the whole day; my awesome friends who i dont see or talk to everyday (because of adulting 101) but still remembers the simple things that makes me happy and emotional; my relatives and my colleaugues who sent me warm wishes and pranks that were heart warming and funny at the same time and of course my one and only Savior - Jesus for being my cornerstone all these years despite my mistakes and failures. . I maybe missing the beach and all my adventures and misadventures around the globe but im really enjoying the quarantine season at the solace of my home with family. Sometimes the most simple and genuine things are the most extraordinary things life. . Counting my blessings properly by knowing WHAT and HOW to count every single day. The beauty of being healthy and safe, the gift of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling, laughing and loving.
