ok. genuine thoughts. i’m upset that this was the route taken… i just think that it would’ve been more impactful had it actually BEEN satoru/hell even if it was sukuna’s mind playing tricks on him… bc it would’ve been instilling fear/doubt in sukuna’s mind which has never been done by anyone else before! also… i just wish it was JUST satoru himself. like i love yuuta and if it HAD to be anyone overtaking satoru’s body, i mean i’m glad it was yuuta and not kenjaku bc at least you know there’s no maliciousness involved! but it’s like… it’s so burdensome. to yuuta to have to do this and live w this fact + satoru said he doesn’t care what happens to his dead body but idk i just would think that gege would leave gojo’s body ALONE. gojo’s body should’ve never been on the playing field of “being used” i think he should’ve been the exception… having someone else inside THE gojo satoru’s body is just idk i don’t like that writing choice…

also. wouldn’t it have been more impactful if either:

1) sukuna AND yuji saw gojo and didn’t know what the hell was going on? sukuna feeling doubt at what he’s seeing and yuji feeling doubt/relief? because that’s HIS sensei. even if it was a mirage i think it would’ve been better than what we got if i’m being honest

2) and this is my own PERSONAL wish. i just wish that satoru would have chosen north and reached enlightenment/chose his students and pushed forward. bc that’s what makes satoru, SATORU. the youth. the future. his students. him losing the six eyes and not being “the strongest” anymore but it doesn’t matter bc his students got HIS back and he has THEIRS. hell even if he keeps his six eyes and just reaches enlightenment to GET stronger would be totally fine too! bc guess what… megumi is STILL inside sukuna. like i think gege fucking forgot about him -> in turn satoru doesn’t mention megumi… which is INSANITY bc he RAISED that boy. satoru raised megumi longer than toji did. like… idk.

there’s just personally so many things i’d do differently and it’s not even about “subverting expectations” i think gege should still service the story/characters without always caring about what Crazy Subversion he can do… bc then you end up LOSING the ideals/personality of the characters themselves!

I don't particularly like how people sometimes portray itafushi as "pretty smart guy x dumb himbo" mainly because, to me, has implications of "there needs to be a dainty guy who's the brains and a big strong guy who's just nothing but brawns" which feels like an interpretation confromed in heteronormativity. You don't have to make one guy in a gay ship a damsel in distress who can't protect himself and only exists to tell the other guy what to do because he's "smarter", and you don't have to infantalize the other and make him dumb as rocks that only know hows to punch and kick and needs constant guidance from his partner on what to do in any given situation. You can make them both capable. You can make them both able to think for themselves and their actions. You can make them both strong. You can find balancing ways to make them both compliment each other. These characters are complex, they exist beyond the character trope boxes you try to force them into.

One of my favorite things about megumi and yuuji's dynamics is that they make up for any weak spots the other would have during a fight. Yuuji acts first and thinks later, and that could be super beneficial for most fights, especially since Curses and Curse Users are known for taking drastic action first, but sometimes you have complex techniques like Inverse which needs a little bit more strategizing first, which is where Megumi, who thinks first and acts later, comes in. Apart from the fact that he just has more jujutsu knowledge than Yuuji, Megumi has a keen eye for detail (see: even in the midst of being severely injured, he managed to notice Hanami's weak point and tell Todo (and later Gojo) about it). He just noticed Inverse's mechanics and quickly applied a strategy to beat him. This is not to say Yuuji wouldn't have eventually figured it out (he's very adaptable and a quick learner!) Megumi just figured it out faster due to his high Battle IQ, but that does not diminish Yuuji's intelligence at all. He's quick on his feet, he's relentless in his attacks (Mahito) and can adjust to any changes in the battle (allies coming to help him). That's intelligence.

On the other hand, we have people who think Megumi is incapable of fighting. Now, this is mostly because Gege gave Megumi so many Ls at the start (😭), but if you see his growth, you can see him plenty capable of taking on opponents on his own. He can fight for himself, he's a capable fighter too. He handled himself well against Toji (despite what the anime wants you to believe), got jumped by 3 people while really exhausted and still won. Just because Yuuji is stronger than him physically (and not by that large of a margin as some make out) doesn't make him any less capable of scraping with someone, fists and all.

You can make them balanced while still having flaws (Yuuji being reckless, Megumi being someone hesitant who always second-guesses his actions) but i get annoyed when those flaws turn up to a 1000

I actually wasn't aware of this until only recently that people accepted for Sukuna to become some absolute horndog when Yorozu was up all over him. Maybe I missed something, but Sukuna only ever expressed being interested in fighting and killing people and personally, he never really came across as some sexual deviant to me.

I feel like sometimes if you have this fanon version of your fave, that is not your favorite. In no way, should you feel the need to like this whole other version of your "fave" in order to like him. Then why have them as your favorite in the first place?

I like Sukuna because he entertains me. He's this evil ass menace who wants all the smoke and the biggest beef he has is with a 15 year old (who is my all time favorite of JJK). Sukuna also this mysterious air about him because we still don't know much about his backstory, let alone everything he can do. (I had this recent thought about a technique that I should probably get to writing.) I have theories about his character, like how he may really be as a person, true. But at the same time, I'm not gonna believe my theories about him are canon because "I know him better than Gege". Anything I say isn't canon unless said so explicitly. I didn't create Sukuna. I am just another fan just vibing along with the story.

And it really is insane to me that people will do that. People were saying "female fans of JJK are ruining the fandom, they're all so horny" as if all us are horny, let alone engage in the anime for said reasons.

The same people *cough cough* misogynists *cough* who say that be the same people who will have a wallpaper of someone like Nami as their header and she'll have boobs bigger than what she has in canon.

No, they're not. You're missing the point.

For one, you can find the characters attractive and enjoy the fights. That is fine. But at the same time, don't miss the story. Pay attention to it because it's just as important, if not more.

Second, not everyone is focused on just the fights and cast. If that was the cast, why do we have theories and meta posts? Why do we have people writing fics that study the character they're writing about? If no one is focusing on the story and only like the fights and attractiveness of the characters, then those kind of posts from fans wouldn't exist.

ok, so there were a lot of theories floating around before 261 about if we would actually be getting a gojo comeback or not. Honestly, some people pointed out why gojo reviving might not be the best decision for the story, but I was placing bets on it anyways because I too was pretty bummed by his end and also because my naive self chose to believe it was the most likely choice for gege to make.

However I did try to keep my hopes reasonable, choosing to belive that it could just be a hallucination.

Truthfully, I didn't think it would be Kenjaku. I'd seen the theory that it could be them but I honestly doubted gege would do that. Yet in the depths of my copium filled soul I had always been holding onto the hope that kenjaku would somehow return to the story. When I tell you my secret little stash of cope was as potent as some gojo fans im telling the truth 😭.

I honestly hoped maybe it would be kenjaku, just maybe. This morning I sought out the leaks and you know what I saw? This:

I was DYING. For a second I thought gege had really done, I was in disbelief, I was in shock, I briefly wondered if this was a joke.

AND THEN I WAS SO HAPPY. I was like: Yes! Answers! Yuji-kenjaku interactions! An unexpected twist in the fight! Forget the logistics of how kenjaku ended up in Gojo's body, I was going to trust gege's cooking and enjoy the chapter before taking a step back and critiquing anything.

And then I read that it wasn't kenjaku. It was Yuta using kenjaku's ct.

I didn't want to belive it could be Yuta. Of all the outcome I thought it CANNOT be Yuta. Not possibly. BUT IT WAS. IT WAS YUTA.

I have felt emotional when consuming media before, and sometimes underwhelmed or critical when something didn't rub me the right way, but I'd never understood people who act so utterly devastated by an author's decisions.

I UNDERSTAND NOW.

I've been mourning all day man 😭. My gojo cope, my kenjaku cope, all of it down the drain just like that AND ALL AT ONCE. I genuinely am not sure what about this chapter gas prompted such emotion in me. Am I lobotomized after all? I choose to belive its the sheer shock of this chapters events.

Tbh, I read the rest of the chapter in a bit of a daze and I'd have to go back and look over it again to share any actual thoughts or analysis, but I will says some other things stood out at me about it.

first of all, I don't hate Yuta. He's not my favorite character but I don't hate him and I wish the best to you yuta fans, however yall are feeling. his line about how the others are so worried about becoming monsters, unknowing that they've forced that role onto gojo all this time hit pretty hard for me. And now Yuta is taking on the same role since gojo's gone. He's strong and is not just taking Gojo's body but in a way taking on his position as the 'monster' of the jujutsu world, even if only for the dubious amount of time he had left.

Also the way sukuna just, punches yuji aside 😭. Nahh. The disrespect. He rlly just sees yuta in gojo's body and tosses yuji away. Rlly hope my boy beats him up next chapter and it doesn't become a yuta-one-man-show.

Overall I'm dying, I'm crying, I'm gritting my teeth, I miss kenjaku, I miss gojo, rip yuta 😭

the thoughts are flowing and i can't keep a lid on my brain, so here are my hastily written thoughts on jjk 235 before something juicier on sunday

now that's out of my system, let me just say that being in the jjk fandom feels like constant gaslighting sometimes lol

i've always believed deep down that gojo would win this fight. i didn't think it would be *this* clear cut, but it seemed like the most likely outcome given what we know about the characters and the story up to this point. he's the strongest, right??

so WHY have i been doubting my own sanity every week since 221 came out???? like, i have two literature degrees and generally think i have a good grasp on literary analysis, but there have been multiple moments over the last few months where i felt like i must have made everything up??? even though gege gave us ALL the signs from the start????

anyway.

it goes without saying that i loved this chapter and the fight on the whole. i've seen countless (*ahem* whiny) complaints that gojo vs sukuna was 'boring' or 'unimportant to the narrative' or 'destroyed their characters', but i think time will be kind to this arc.

the best plot beats are those that seem obvious in hindsight. twists are only satisfying when they're given sufficient foreshadowing (like sukuna possessing megumi) so i've always thought that gojo dying after sukuna wiped the floor with him would be a shocking choice in the worst possible way.

i put my faith in gege and i'm glad i did, because he's just delivered a masterclass in making the expected ending feel unexpected. as they say — it's about the journey, not the destination!!

some things i loved this chapter:

"first time blowing myself up" looool i guess gojo is still the same nerdy teenager at heart. he's been treating this fight like it's an academic exercise, and he was SO excited to learn something new about his technique — even though it nearly melted his face off 💀 gojo is kinda mad scientist coded and i think that's beautiful tbh

while i don't think gojo is out of the woods just yet, i do believe that 235 marks the definitive conclusion to the battle of the strongest. putting gojo aside for a second, i'm genuinely delighted with the outcome because i think it's by far the most interesting choice for sukuna's character too. this is a 1000 year old guy who equates losing with dying, so how is he going to wrap his head around a defeat that challenges his entire worldview? sukuna's character arc starts NOW

also also the callback to chapter 76 and the "automatic selection of the technique’s target" to explain why mahoraga didn't get pulled by blue but gojo did? pure genius 😭 gege is so meticulous with his callbacks!!

as for what happens next, who the fuck knows??? although i've got my predictions, i can't see how any of them fit together at this point.

oh, yuuji...i'm glad he's finally having his moment here, one on one. for someone who writes about geto a lot, even i'm sometimes surprised by how omnipresent he is in the story, even without mention! and about sukuna, i'm not sure if you've caught up to chapter 268 leaks, but his come-to-god moment is still pretty unclear, i'd say. at least we know that he can feel something, despite what he said in 265. and that's indignation, frustration, and maybe (juuust maybe) also a sense of insecurity about his self-perception!

My full thoughts on the Shibuya Incident

Initially I was kind of hyped. With someone as powerful as Gojo, he had to have something done to him for the story to continue. It literally would be impossible to have high stakes if every fight was "we are waiting patiently for Satoru's big cock to get here so we can jerk him off right now!!!" Its great for narrative tension. Combined with the deaths in the first section/ season one of the anime, it really was good. I love that he got jar Douman'd. (A little meme for NA FGO players to enjoy.)

I fell in love with Geto so the fake Geto stuff is sad, but he is so hot. Geto is literally one of the hottest characters in the verse. I don't care that he isn't really Geto. I'm still down bad for him. Him being Choso's dad and Yuji's mom doesn't even bother me. I know it should. Everything about this man should bother me, but I don't think he knows what is wrong with him. He is cooking with the stove off and no oil in the pan, but that's okay. I'll just cook dinner instead. I'll fix him. Maybe... though for real? He is just a good overall "I'm here for chaos" villain. His plan is nonsensical, but DAMN he is PLANNING! Everything has gone right for him! Even better than he hoped sometimes!!! That's hot. You can't tell me that isn't so sexy. He is so fucked up. I need him biblically. Not sure I want to be experimented on, but with that face? I know that a lot of the fandom want him to come back but personally I would rather let Satoru rest. I mean, I respect Gege's work but I feel like sometimes his writing is a hit or miss. A lot of the plot was promising and had a lot of potential but he didn't elaborate in some of those points, then you have strong, engaging characters but he also dropped the ball on them and it's okay, its his story but as a reader it's a kinda frustrating. Personally after being let down by one of the big three (Naruto) after investing 10+ years and making peace with it, I like to believe that Satoru is now on his fandom's hands, and we're going to take good care of him, rather than him just getting into perhaps another plot point that Gege might not even give justice to the character. That’s just my opinion as an older fan.

Again, I feel like it's hard for me to fully form my own opinion on it just because it's still unfinished. I have no doubt we will be seeing flashbacks with gojo present and maybe through those it will tie things together and make everything feel more complete. I also feel like weekly release format can often make the story feel really disjointed, but often once it's all finished and you go back and read it all together it feels alot more put together.

I try to cut mangaka a bit of slack bc of how insane their work schedule and environment can be. What they put themselves through is actually crazy and the fact they are still able to put out the quality they do is amazing. 😭

I get where you are coming from, (especially in regards to Naruto 😬) I think that's a really sweet sentiment to have about the fandom taking care of him 💕 we will for sure continue to love and take care of him<3

XL would definitely have a squishmallow addiction.

His favorite is a giant fox that reminds him of San Lang 🥰

They take up so much space on the bed that HuaLian eventually get a new bed specifically for the squishmallows.

To let out pent up frustration, XL sometimes throws the squishmallows across the room or smacks them. HC walks into the room and stands there like 🧍🏻 as XL growls while attacking his squishmallows.

HC fully indulges XL in his squishmallow addiction and makes quite the picture of a tall, brooding man in the checkout lane holding a gigantic bananya squishmallow to present as one of his endless offerings to his Gege.

If HC has to leave for business for a few days, XL insists he take one of the squishmallows as a companion so he doesn’t get to lonely. HC usually chooses the ferret squishmallow.

If XL ever sees someone who feels down, he’ll offer one of his squishmallows for comfort. FX lowkey has many and MQ hastily accepts them but always returns them. QYZ loves them too

As many people do, XL sets up fictional storylines where the squishmallows have tea parties, go to war, fall in love, etc.

HC walking in on XL making the fox and ferret squishmallows kiss: 😳

XL: “now kiss” 😇

HC, in his head: “isn’t that us?” 😭

Somehow, XL convinces HC to change a few of his opponents in squishmallows instead of daruma dolls - just for funsies!

This leads to HC turning himself into a squishmallow because Gege has been neglecting him for inanimate stuffed animals.

i dunk on toji a lot for the memes 😌 classic "attractive guy and therefore must be a f-boy" but in reality he does have a lot of unexplored depth. also honestly with all the shit he's had to wade through i do really wanna be his friend. with benefits? maybe 😏 but the guy really needs a friend, methinks.

i still hold to my heart that after losing people he's cared about he would be hesitant on settling down in another relationship, but part of him also wants that stability that comes with it. so toji being an awesome FwB is one of my fav hcs (for obv reasons~). maybe he finds comfort and escapism in physical contact, including sex? or sometimes just shooting the shit with someone brings a sense of normalcy that he's missing.

i def agree he would be hesitant/would keep his distance, and i think fwb works pretty well for him! i do wonder how used to gentle/non-threatening physical touch he is, and i think that could take some getting used to (but that's in part bc i live for 'gentle touch feeling like violence' and re-learning how to accept softness and accepting that you deserve softness).
