The more I learn about Civil War politics, the more I'm convinced that Lincoln's most impressive and useful leadership trait was that he never let his pride get in the way of doing his job.
Other people in Lincoln's position would have come to Washington with something to prove. They'd have resented the insults and tried to disprove them. They'd have tried to seize power and credit, rejected help, spent a lot of time trying to reach a certain level of respect.
Lincoln's response to, "You're just a backwoods lawyer with no executive experience who makes too many dumb jokes," was pretty much always, "Yeah. And?" He had no interest in petty personal power plays. He had a country to run. There was a war on. It didn't matter what people thought of him so long as the job got done.
He was aware of his personal shortcomings and was always willing to accept advice and help from people who had more knowledge and experience in certain areas. He presided over a chaotic Cabinet full of abrasive personalities who thought they were better and smarter than him, but he kept working with them because they could get the job done. For example: Stanton was absolutely horrible to him when they were both working as lawyers. Just incredibly mean on a personal level. But when Lincoln needed someone to replace Cameron, he swallowed his pride and appointed Stanton as Secretary of War, where Stanton proceeded to be mean to everyone in the world, but he whipped that department into shape and kept it running efficiently through a very chaotic war. Pretty much no one except Lincoln would have been able to put up with that. He could put up with people who were personally difficult if they could do the job he needed them to do--which he was only able to do because his own ego didn't get in the way.
Lincoln's example is a prime demonstration of how humility isn't underrating yourself--it's being so secure in your own abilities and identity that you don't need to attack anyone or defend yourself to prove your worth. He knew his shortcomings, but he also knew his strengths. He was willing to give other people credit for successes and take blame upon himself for failures if it kept things running smoothly. He was secure enough in his own power that he could deal generously--but firmly--with people who tried to undermine him. In a city full of huge egos, in a profession that rewards puffed-up pride, that levelheaded humility is an extremely rare trait--which is what made it so impressive and effective.

I'm late to the party, what's going on in hellcheer land?? I knew grace is dating a johnny depp fan but has more happened? (Feel free to just ignore this if you don't wanna answer btw, i know you might not wanna invite drama onto your blog!!)
I am going to risk answering this but only because I have no idea.
I am honest to God probably the worst person to ask about this because I am so extremely Out Of The Loop when it comes to the goings on of celebrities because, to be quite frank, I don't care. What famous people do in their personal lives doesn't affect me and my opinions on things are rarely anything more than "oh cool" or "ew". The most involved I get is following some on Instagram but even then it's only a select few.
I think a lot/the majority of whatever is going on is/was happening on twitter and i don't have twitter so i've only ever seen whatever's trickled onto here (which even then is very very little because, again, it doesn't affect me and also I think I've just tailored my blog to my tastes so that stuff doesn't typically cross my feed beyond the occasional reblog from a mutual or that one anonymous ask I got one time)
That being said, fiction ≠ reality and characters ≠ the individuals who portray them. I am in hellcheer land, as you put it (which I like that btw, I'm going to keep using it lol), for Hellcheer The Characters. I will acknowledge that there is "drama" that is either starting or continuing to infiltrate hellcheer land even though it has no place to do so. Hellcheer is fictional and fandom is supposed to be a fun community experience and by allowing your feelings about Certain Matters to significantly affect the fandom and other people you are making it an unfun community experience and that's kind of mid tbh :( If there's going to be drama (which there inevitably will be) it needs to, imo, not be brought into hellcheer land because, again, hellcheer is fictional and characters are not real people and real people are not characters

This might be a FAQ but is it okay to draw fanart of Machete? They're such an elegant design with neat lore and a gorgeous wardrobe to boot.
Absolutely! It's a massive compliment when people want to draw my characters, it always brightens my day. The feeling of seeing your little critters through someone else's eyes is unmatched.

btw tho. the opportunity for angst central when limochi reunites. also when they get together bc the confrontation w their own mortality
god too right, lime was NOT okay after this whole ordeal. mochi was honestly just thankful to be alive and to have the chance to live, but lime was fucking PARANOID for a time after she comes back.
sulluvan talks to lime about "Being brought back by the lifeline doesn't guarantee any kind of safety post-ressurection. She could die tomorrow being hit by a bus for all you know, so don't treat her carelessly." HARSH AND SHIT THING TO SAY BUT TRUE!!!!!! so anytime someone as much as hugs her too tight hes like HEY FUCKING WATCH IT!!!! he refuses to leave her side and watches her like a hawk.
(mochi eventually has to calm him down about this because it gets to be a little much after a time)

one of the things about where are your boys tonight i really appreciated and, to me, seemed like the most significant thrust of the book (but never garnered much attention, imo), was the focus on the business side of things and particularly the way the many bands never saw long term success or stability or the way a lot of very young people were taken advantage of even after making their labels and handlers metric butt-tones of money and this really culminated with the discussion about paramores record deal and the inherently coercive nature of making a 14 year old sign a record deal (not even really mentioning that record deal was 20 fucking years lmao) and yet i still see people argue she was an industry plant or whatever. sorry ig one of my fatal flaws is i give child stars the benefit of the doubt considering the fundamental exploitation necessary for that position to exist or whatever
