the pacing of birdmen... -_-

#just thinking thoughts...#it's not bad but... it's not good??#I think there were too many pieces that she was trying to move around concurrently #so much so that when something 'goes off' so to speak #it doesn't feel well-timed or impactful #and things don't really tend to parallel each other either #I dunno I feel like the scale of plot was much more... digestible in kks??#where like you start off with what yoshimori's doing #and then you slowly add in the shadow org and then build masamori's nefarious plot on top of that #the shadow org stuff is what typically spices up yoshimori's life pushing what we perceive as plot progression in the story #in the immediate foreground #and meanwhile sumiko's existence (and though the readers don't know it at this time) and her nefarious plot with tokimori #are ALSO simmering in the back at this time #I think it feels less overwhelming becuase in kks you have this concept of 'shadow org' first #which gets further broken down into 'night troops' 'coucil of 12' (13? i forgor) 'the leader' 'actually that's a fake here's the REAL leade #and because it's sort of just fine-tuning the details of this big thing #it doesn't feel like multiple factions to keep track of the way 'american flock' 'the eves' 'the mutants' 'chinese flock' etc. feel #it's so frustrating... I think the pacing at the end of kks and at the beginning of bm was good #but I think bm's pacing was a compressed version of kks's #in the sense that the end is a lot denser than the beginning #but whereas kks was too loose and directionless in the beginning #bm was too woven and dense at the end #SAD #SO SAD #MISS TANABE YOU CAN DO IT. YOU CAN CREATE THE PERFECTLY PACED MANGA I BELIEVE IN YOU #stray bird thoughts

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever

#^ 10 y/o me was obsessed w/ art YTers who would always talk about good and bad art and mary sues and stuff #I think kids should be encouraged to make bad art and stupud OCs as much as possible abd im so serious about that. i think its actually #amazing for their development as both as person and artist

public libraries in the usa offering free digital library cards to people not in their areas (as of october 2023):

brooklyn (13-21yo us residents)

seattle (13-26yo us residents)

boston (13-26yo us residents, EDIT: just commonly banned books)

los angeles (13-18yo california residents)

san diego (12-26yo us residents, not the whole collection just commonly banned books)

these books unbanned cards (unless otherwise stated) get you access to each library's complete libby/cloud library collection, no hoopla/kanopy/physical copies included.

ebook collections are expensive to maintain (many american libraries have annual fees for non-residents because of this) but because of an uptick in book banning (particularly brutal in mississippi last summer) larger libraries have opened their doors more, which is very kind of them!

i've used my seattle card for the last several months and their libby collection has about three times the books that my local library does, which is wonderful for accessing more niche titles or skipping a waiting list. would love to hear of similar ebook initiatives internationally!

i use library extension (firefox/chrome/edge compatible) to check all my collections (+ the internet archive) at once, works for several different countries highly recommend it.

spotify seems to be offering 15hrs/month of audiobook listening to premium subscribers and while that does seem useful if you're already paying and are after a new release with a long library waitlist, libraries are better for everything else.

only thing i know for certain is that if "breaking bad" took place during modern times, jesse would've used his cash to buy a drone and there would've been a sick ass sequence filmed from drone perspective and one episode cold open would've been all scary and sinister and it would end with an ominous shot of the drone laying all crushed and fucked up on the floor to imply harm done to jesse. and it would be really sad
