I made this edit years ago as a part of a larger... uh, crack vid (my crack vids always end up angsty somehow sjhgfhdfg) but because of youtube at the time (you couldn't check if your youtube channel would just get blasted) I uploaded it elsewhere.

But to this day I'm still proud of this edit, so in the spirit of the anniversary, I'm uploading it here :)

My Top 10 Ultimate Merthur-Coded Songs 

#1. A Thousand Years - Christina Perri

I mean. Is an explanation really needed? She's literally singing about loving someone for an extensive amount of time. You know who also loved someone for a really long time? Merlin.

#2. Soarele si Luna - Pasha Parfeni

It literally means "the sun and the moon" in Romanian. The lyrics are "the sun and the moon will hold our wedding crown". It's a magical sounding, wedding song. Literally could be performed by the Druids at their wedding. ☀️🌑

#3. Still Falling For You - Ellie Goulding

"Fire and ice, this love is like fire and ice", "this love's never growing old, you make it new" ("you'd get bored" - merlin), "this love is like rolling the dice" (see 5x12). Need I say more? Ellie Goulding wrote this song for them.

Who's the beauty, who's the beast? We'll never know. Either way this song perfectly encapsulates their relationship. Growing past prejudices? Realizing you were wrong? Barely even friends (then somebody bends)? Perfection. Also my brain likes to pretend it's Hunith singing instead of Emma Thompson.

It's giving Arthur admiring Merlin's magic. His eyes literally go gold! It's his golden hour! HE SLOWS DOWN TIME!

#6. Written All Over Your Face - Louis Tomlinson

Nicknamed the "married Merthur song" because it literally sounds like Arthur in the doghouse. Like he did something shitty and now Merlin's mad at him, but not saying that he's mad at him so Arthur's like "babe, it's written all over your face??" Also the lines "a hurricane behind the door, so I've come ready for a war" and "once you figure out what we're fighting for, I'll be ready to talk".

#7. you were there for me - Henry Moodie

Pretty self explanatory. It's 100% Arthur's POV. "You were there through the heartbreaks, you were there when I lost faith, be aware i would do the same". It reminds me of 4x13 when he completely lost faith so Merlin did the sword in the stone thing to reinspire him.

#8. Superstitious - Big Time Rush

So much happening here, but this entire album is Merthur coded. This one is also Arthur POV. "i ain't superstitious but you're throwing down the magic on me" "we can run away for the hell of it" (see: the picnic and how he wants to live with merlin on a farm)

no idea whose POV this is - could honestly be both, but i'm tending to lean toward Merlin's. "it could only hurt this much right now" (everytime he watched someone he loves die) "i'll be getting over you my whole life" (...) "lost in the labyrinth of my mind" "you would break your back to make me break a smile" when freya died and arthur made him laugh :') "you know how much i hate that everyone expects me to just bounce back" very merlin core
