I'm doing my yearly rewatch of It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (1974) in which one of the subplots has Peppermint Pattie insisting that Marcie learn how to color Easter eggs. Marcie appears to have little interest in learning about this tradition, but she never complains. Instead, she fries, waffles, and cracks eggs into boiling water. It's hard to believe Marcy simply is that clueless; in every other storyline she shares with Peppermint Patty, Marcie is the more knowledgeable of the two.
I think there's a better explanation, and it's that Marcie is Jewish, It would explain why she has not participated in this widely practiced Easter tradition. It also explains all the "mistakes." Marcie isn't uncomprehending; she is resisting Christian hegemony. Her final act of defiance comes when Snoopy gives her a colored Easter egg and she, after sprinkling some salt on it, takes a bite through the shell and declares, "Tastes terrible, sir!"
It's disappointing that Charles M. Shultz couldn't be more explicit about Marcie's Jewishness, but it's not very surprising considering how hard he had to fight include Franklin, a visibly Black character, in his comic strip in 1968. And, least in the holiday specials, Franklin is never shown participation in any traditions with his Black family or community. (He really has no better options for Thanksgiving than eating jelly beans and popcorn with a bunch of White kids? Ok, Mr. Shultz).
Even including a kid who is decidedly not Christian was pushing boundaries for the time. Still, I wish we'd gotten a chance to see Chag Pesach, Charlie Brown.

Every Easter I am always so angry that I cannot watch my favorite Easter specials on TV. So I checked YouTube and you can watch Here Comes Peter Cottontail entirely in one video and It's the Easter Beagle Charlie Brown in video segments. The links are below. Feel free to add your favorite Easter specials.

LOOK! It's the Easter Oswald, Charlie Brown! I, unfortunately, didn't make something for Redbubble on time for Easter due to life events. However, I finished this in time for Easter Day. Maybe it's for the better since I took a lot of inspiration from official Oswald pins for this quickly-made drawing. Also, I took a lot of inspiration from It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown! making this drawing thanks to everybody's votes. HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!
