Hey! Welcome to Whumptober 2022. I don't have much for this year but I wrote this story months ago and it hung around in my WIPs. Perfect for Whumptober 🎃

The filthy, scrawny creature crouched before her would serve her as loyally and faithfully as any Sheikah. More so, perhaps, because he was bound to her by destiny, and she to him. Impa had scoffed when Zelda had informed her of her plans. And she had to admit, she was uncertain as well, right up until they arrived on the desolate plateau and the call of the goddess sang in her bones. 

“We’ve got him cornered now,” Zelda replied, keeping her voice in the same soft, musical, non-threatening tone she had used as soon as she had spotted the figure in the bushes. 

“That’s what worries me, Princess.”

Very, very excited for the next chapter but due to the advent calendar fic, I'll probably post it in January. Or end of the month if we're super quick with editing, but I don't think so. It's a lot work to do... Anyway, enjoy!

The Promise, chapter 10

Link blinked behind his deck of cards, trying repeatedly to moisten his eyes, dry and burning from exhaustion and misery. His swollen eye ached, not appreciating the simple gesture.

He liked playing cards. Usually. Adel had dragged him and two cousins into a round of whist as soon as they met up again with the ladies in the drawing room.

At least the atmosphere was much looser than it had been during the dinner since the men didn’t have to watch their manners without the ladies close by. Postures were more relaxed, the glasses full of brandy and whisky instead of wine, and the jokes were a lot dirtier.

Most hits: Hollowed Moon, an unfinished Steven Universe canon divergent thing that strangely took off like wildfire due to the SU movie coming out days before posting and the story's inclusion of Spinel. Over 37,000 hits for a fic that barely has 8K words... I really don't understand either, ahahah. I'm flattered, though.

Second most kudos: Crack the Paragon, an unfinished Steven Universe canon divergent fic where all of the season 5 plot bombs come crashing down on Steven and his family in the Bismuth episode, and things get Messy. 1,697 kudos.

Third most comments: Misalignment, an unfinished Steven Universe: Future canon divergent fic where a very troubled Steven runs away, and his family has to deal with the fallout. 230 comments.

Fourth most bookmarks: Shattering Atlas, a Steven Universe speculative fic written two months before SU: Future aired that focuses on the theory that Steven would corrupt himself due to his extreme emotional turmoil. 142 bookmarks, 103 of those are publicly visible.

Fifth most words: A Tale of Two Trollhunters, a super niche Gravity Falls/Trollhunters fusion crossover I started and never did anything with beyond four chapters (and one half chapter I have on the sidelines.) Honestly I still quite like the general premise of this one, I might continue on with it eventually if I get bored. 14,954 words.

Least words: Mistress of Disguise, a quick Doctor Who series 8 fic focusing on Missy being a little shit in the scene during the finale where she kisses the fuck out of Twelve unprompted. 213 words.

Most Kudos: The Amnesiac Hero's Quest again, however, I think I heard something about a glitch or wave of spammers that hit Ao3 around the time it was posted, cause the difference is huge! (49 compared to 18 for the next highest, which interestingly enough is the short story that I expanded into TAHQ.)

Most Comments: N/A. None of my fics have comments yet. (On Ao3, got a few on the cross-posted versions on DA)

Most Bookmarks: Shifting Tides of Fate, my most recently added fic. Picks up where TAHQ leaves off, with Mipha joining Link's quest to free the other Divine Beasts and Champions, currently at 9k words, but I've only got two chapters up (don't know how long it'll be yet, probably comparable to TAHQ). Rated M. (Although everything I've posted is under the The Realm Walker series which has more bookmarks... So I don't know if that means anything but there you have it...)

My original plan for "The Realm Walker," was to have just snippets of Link's adventure. This was to be the first one, then "Freeing Vah Ruta," etc. etc. However, I popped into BotW and realized that what I had written for this story couldn't possibly take place over the course of a single day like I had written. That and I got a case of the brainworms, so TAHQ was born!

🤯what’s a genre you struggle with as a writer?

Horror/thriller. I love love love to read it, but I have a hard time trying to write stuff that’s creepy/scary without it collapsing into corn.

Link’s Big Throne of Lies ?

this one is the newest addition to the pile! it's really only an idea, there's barely anything written down.

you know all those quests in botw where you have to take a picture of something on the slate, but the guest giver assumes you drew it because they don't know the slate has a camera? so essentially, link gains a reputation as a masterful artist because everyone mistakes his photographs for lifelike paintings. and then everyone wants to commission him, and he's too nice to say no. so now the poor guy has to balance a full-on art career with saving the world, while hiding the truth that he actually can't paint for shit.

of course, there will be some zelink fluff to dull the pain. eventually.

BOTW Discord AU: Caffeine Chaos ☕️ part 1

Summary: Purah and Robbie mentioned an experiment regarding five-hour energy drinks. The Champions decide they want to try. Broken into five parts due to the tumblr image limit. (this is a crack fic. fic? sure, we’ll call it a fic.)

Sir Arwel Haywood, loyal knight of Hyrule’s royal guard and proud father of two, has never considered himself a particularly religious man.

Fic 7: our outlines in the sunset (are just a fragile silhouette) (TotK one-shot)

Head pounding.

A crisp breeze biting tauntingly at his skin.

His whole body, altogether pierced and immobilized by thin, searing needles.

Fic 8: Mementos (AoC one-shot)

Zelda scowls, jotting down yet another dour structural report in her hand-bound journal:

‘West Grounds Garden Gazebo: Roof has partially caved in. Five out of six of the pillars remain standing, in varying degrees of disrepair.’

Fic 9: so close, so far (so familiar) (BotW one-shot)

For a time, the eternity you tread within is silent… cold… just as strangely pacifying as one might imagine the stiff embrace of demise lying beyond the throes of a gruesome battlefield.

Fic 10: A Memoir of the Marks Unseen (Steven Universe one-shot)

In retrospect, he should’ve anticipated that he wouldn’t emerge from the events of The Incident entirely unchanged.

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

I'm not sure if this really counts as a trope but I don't see myself ever writing some kind of Modern AU. I love my fantasy Hyrule way too much to plop the Zelda characters in Manhattan or wherever, it's just not for me writing wise though I will read modern au fics.

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

The end of aftermath chapter 31 "release", where Zelda explodes with magic as the cliffhanger had me giggling as I hit post because I knew it was the best cliffhanger of the story. The satisfaction of people yelling how rude I was for leaving it there and that they needed the next chapter immediately was too good to pass up.

🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?

I do both! The first couple chapters of a longfic are usually me flying by the seat of my pants, and usually around chapters 4-6 I actually sit down and find a way to take what "improv" I've done in the chapters beforehand and make it all make sense. If it's a one-shot I try and outline the whole thing, but then along the way I add stuff that wasn't in the outline and add an extra like 2-3k of random stuff I have to now have the outline incorporate. I'm kind of a mess but it works!
