Beatrice gets home a bit later than she intended, the talking took a lot longer than they hoped it’d be. She huffed while balancing Nicole on her arm and pulling out her keys with the other, sliding it into the hole and looking around just to keep her eyes occupied as she moved the key.

While doing so, she saw Miranda, in the distance, watering her plants. She had never seen where she lived exactly, she just knew it was nearby. Her eyes narrowed and she pulled Nicole closer to her chest, pushing both of their bodies closer to the door and purposefully hiding herself from Miranda’s gaze if she dared to look over.

She was just messing around but Beatrice could see she was annoyed by such chores. She was ripping out geraniums that were still blooming and tossing dirt everywhere. Beatrice just kept her eyes on that scene, it was bothering her immensely because well, that was one of the things she liked to do and seeing someone being so disrespectful was- Eleanor’s sharp bark made Beatrice’s head snap forward.

The white dog was looking at her through the glass, wagging her tail slowly while whining in her throat. Beatrice checked to make sure Miranda hadn’t heard - it was at least five houses from each other, so the sound could reverberate - before slipping inside, “Sorry,Ellie.” she says, tossing the bag on the side table closest to the door while setting Nicole down so she could waddle towards Eleanor.

Beatrice rubbed her fingers, trying to peek at the house but she couldn’t see anything from that angle. She exhales quietly before backing away from the door, “It’s nothing.” she whispers, “It’s nothing.” and she turns to where Nicole was, “Well, at least that was dealt with,for now.”

The brunette stretched her arms over her head then immediately winced with both hands on her breasts, “Fffuck.” she was sore, her breasts were pulsating with pain and she gently massaged them in hopes to ease some of the discomfort, “Shit,this is…fuck.” the good news is that she had enough for her three babies…the bad news was that she had enough for her three babies.

Maybe she should call her mother and ask her what she could do about that.

After having something to drink, her throat was dry from talking. She walks up to the kitchen with Nicole following, Jolene was now next to her, guiding her to the kitchen as her mother fills up a glass of water. She’s about to bring it to her lips when her phone buzzes, “Who could it be–” she blinks once she pulls the phone out of her pocket, “Marcus?” and she immediately unlocks the call.

“Helloooo darling.”

“Marcus,hi.” she smiles, “Been a few days,huh?”

“Indeed, my darling. How have you been?”

"I've been busy, Marcus," she replied with a small chuckle. "Life with three little ones is quite the adventure. But it's been good, overall. How about you? How's everything on your end?"

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Beatrice could almost picture Marcus taking a leisurely sip of tea as he often did during their conversations. "Ah, you know, the usual. Work, social events, a few new contacts and a dash of intrigue here and there. But enough about me, my dear. I wanted to check in on you. How are the twins doing? And how are you holding up?"

Beatrice leaned against the kitchen counter, watching Nicole play with Jolene on the floor. She smiled at the sight and replied, "The twins are doing well. Gavin and Aurora are growing stronger every day. And as for me, well, I'm hanging in there. It's a lot of work, but it's incredibly rewarding."

"I'm glad to hear that, my dear. You're doing an amazing job. I knew you'd be a fantastic mother."

Beatrice blushed at the compliment, "Thank you, Marcus. That means a lot. But um…is there a reason you called?”

“Yes,” another sip, “Whenever you are able I’d like you to come to the studio.”

“Oh?”

“I know it’s going to be hard now, so there’s no pressure, but I drew some lovely pieces for you and I need your opinion on it.”

Beatrice blinked, ‘...Marcus do you ever rest?’ she wasn’t being rude, she was genuinely worried for his well being, “It feels like ever since we met you work and only had one vacation…”

“Darling, I’m a fashion designer. My art flows in my veins.I cannot stop.”

“Well, but–”

“Besides!” she hears the sound of paper flipping “I can’t help that you, as my muse, has come to give me so much success. My brand is reaching higher grounds darling…and it’s because of that photoshoot. You are aware of that, yes?”

Her cheeks warmed up and she played with the end of her shirt, "I-I'm aware, Marcus," she replied with a soft sigh. "I'm thrilled that the photoshoot had such a positive impact on your career. Even if it was…terrifying at the time."

There was a thoughtful pause on Marcus's end of the line. "I know, my dear. But you must know, and remember, you did wonderful.”

"Thank you, Marcus. Your friendship means the world to me, and I'm genuinely happy for your success. I'd love to visit your studio and see your new creations.” she looks around a bit, “I just…can’t say when.”

“That is quite alright. I can send you a limo to pick you up when it happens.”

“...a limo? Marcus, there’s no need.”

“Perhaps, but I think it’d be fun, wouldn’t it? Your neighborhood would be thrilled!”

Considering everything that was going on…he was right. But she only gave him a nervous laugh as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “W-Well…I-I’ll have to talk to Roos about that too, you know…he-he’s been helping around a lot too,so…he’d like to know when I do leave.”

She could just imagine the neighborhood's reaction to a luxury car arriving to pick her up. It would certainly be an event. Somehow that terrified her.

"Of course, my dear. Just let me know when you have a date in mind, and I'll make all the arrangements. Until then, take your time adjusting to your new routine with the little ones. Family comes first, after all."

Beatrice appreciated Marcus's understanding and flexibility. "Thank you, Marcus.”

“Do they need more clothes?”

“Uhhh,well,” she blinks, “...they…they are still in the NICU so, um, there’s no need for that now and Nikki is growing out of her clothes already,” cue to her daughter waddling about with her shorts appearing a little bit larger than the other ones she had, “Except for certain others, you know?”

“Oh…right,your twins are still there. I apologize darling.”

Beatrice hissed through her teeth, she didn’t want…pity, she is already suffering enough, but she also knew Marcus didn’t do it on purpose, “It’s okay,Marcus. Truly…I know you only mean well.”

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Marcus spoke again, his tone warm and comforting. "My dear, you are a remarkable woman. You've faced challenges with grace and resilience. I have no doubt that Gavin and Aurora will thrive under your loving care."

Beatrice felt her eyes welling up with tears at Marcus's words. She sniffles quietly, wiping her eyes before they dribble down her face "Thank you, Marcus," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "That means the world to me."

“My dear, you are most welcome.” she hears a voice in the distance, followed by Marcus replying in french, “Darling,I must go. Duty calls! But please, send me a few messages hm? If you can.”

"Of course, Marcus," Beatrice replied, her voice soft "Take care, and I'll be sure to send you updates. Stay safe." As she ended the call with Marcus, Beatrice sighed softly, returning to her glass of water as she recalls the conversation in her mind.

She looked around her cozy living room, where the soft glow of lamps filled the space with a warm and inviting ambiance. The twins were still in the NICU, and her heart ached for their presence, but she knew they were in the best possible hands.

Nicole was happily playing on her own, her laughter filling the room. Beatrice couldn't help but smile as she watched her daughter. Despite the challenges of motherhood, moments like these made it all worth it.

She clears her throat, sipping her water and then looking back towards the porch, noticing how the sky was still gray and cloudy, undoubtedly it’d rain again later. She sighs, clenching her eyes at the subtle pain on her chest as she slowly lies down on the couch, ‘I can close my eyes for a little bit.” and it’d stay like that, because her eyelids just dropped shut like iron doors, ‘...it’s fine.”

Her couch was so nice. 

It was so nice.

She doesn’t notice when she falls asleep, one of her hands sliding out of the couch, touching Nicole as she sits not too far away from there, making sure to keep her hand on the toddler in case she needed anything. 

As Beatrice dozed off on the cozy couch, the soft sounds of the living room filled the space. The rhythmic ticking of the wall clock provided a soothing background noise, and the gentle hum of the refrigerator added to the peaceful ambiance.

Unbeknownst to her, Nicole continued to play on the floor nearby. Her toys were scattered around her, and she seemed perfectly content exploring her little world. Every now and then, she would let out a happy gurgle or a tiny laugh, only looking up whenever one of the dogs was nearby.

Outside, the clouds continued to gather in the gray sky, promising another round of rain. The occasional distant rumble of thunder hinted at the approaching storm, but for the moment, all was calm within the four walls of Beatrice's home.

Nicole, however, looked up when she noticed a known car rolling into the garage. She immediately stopped what she was doing to rush to the window, Jolene with her, giving her a push so she could look outside and see her father.

Rooster watches as the garage door slowly comes down, sunglasses on and mouth in a thin line, then turns his head towards the window and his smile immediately appears, ‘Baby girl!” he coos from the outside, “Oh my gosh! It’s my baby girl!”

Nicole's face lit up with excitement as she recognized her father's voice. Her chubby little hands pressed against the window, her green eyes wide with anticipation. She bounced on her feet with pure delight, her baby babble making him chuckle from the outside.

Rooster just made his way to the door quickly and Nicole wasted no time in climbing out of the seat towards it. As soon as it opened, she let out a happy squeal and rushed into her father’s arms, “Hi!’ he coos,kissing her soft cheek, “Hi hi! You look so cute! Oh you are so cute! Hi baby girl!” he shuts the door with his foot, a gentle slam echoing through their home, “Where’s mama,hm?”

Nicole,still grinning, looked towards the living room. Rooster did the same and he winced in regret, “Shit.” he whispered, “Shouldn’t have done that, mama is asleep,huh?”

He carefully made his way into the living room, taking care to step lightly. The soft patter of rain against the windows added to the tranquility of the moment. Beatrice lay on the couch, her breathing steady as she slept peacefully. Her chest rose and fell in a gentle rhythm, hands tucked under the pillows.

Nicole squirmed in his arms, reaching out toward her mother. "Mama," she babbled, her voice a sweet melody in the quiet room.

Rooster smiled down at his daughter, understanding her desire to be close to Beatrice. He walked over to the couch and carefully sat down, letting Nicole snuggle against her mother's side. Beatrice stirred slightly but didn't wake.

He marveled at the sight of his two favorite girls, his heart swelling with love. The rain outside provided a soothing backdrop, creating a serene atmosphere.

Rooster whispered softly to Nicole, "Mama needs her rest, baby girl. Let's keep her company, okay?" Nicole, seemingly understanding, nestled closer to Beatrice, her eyes slowly drooping as she found comfort in their presence.

Rooster gazed at them, a sense of contentment washing over him. Despite the challenges and uncertainties that life had thrown their way, they were a family, and that was what truly mattered.

He reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair away from Beatrice's face, his touch tender and loving. She sighed softly in her sleep, a small smile gracing her lips.

Rooster leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. "I love you," he whispered, smiling when her lips quirked up even more, nuzzling her pillow. Rooster then leaned back on the couch,rubbing his face with both hands, grunting into his palms.

He was tired but he didn’t want to leave them alone. His whole body was aching, plus…well…he was repeating the conversation with Mav in his head.

Rooster had nodded, grateful for Mav's wisdom. There was only so much he could do after all and he and Beatrice had faced their fair share of challenges over the years, and they had always come through stronger on the other side.

But the weight of it all still pressed down on him. He couldn't help but worry about his wife's well-being, especially as she recovered from childbirth. And adding weird people into it? He thought they were done with that for a while now. 

Rooster reached for his phone and sent a quick text message to Mav, thanking him for being there when he needed to talk. He knew he could count on his friend, just as he could count on Beatrice.

The rain outside continued to fall, a steady and soothing rhythm that seemed to echo the peace and contentment within their home. Thunder rolled above their heads, “Welp, looks like we aren’t going out tonight.” he mutters, “Shame,wanted to spend some time out of the house.”

But just as he was about to let his eyes drift shut, he noticed a subtle change in the room. Beatrice, his beloved wife, was beginning to stir. Her eyelids fluttered, and her fingers shifted beneath the pillows.

Rooster's heart skipped a beat as he watched her,Beatrice's eyes slowly opened, and for a moment, she seemed to gaze into the distance, her mind bridging the gap between dreams and reality. Then, her eyes focused, and she blinked a few times, adjusting to the dim light of the room.

Her gaze landed on Rooster, and a warm yet sleepy smile brightened her face. It was a smile that held years of love and shared moments, a smile that said more than words ever could.

"Hey there," Rooster whispered, his voice a gentle caress. "Sleep well?"

Beatrice nodded, her eyes still filled with sleepiness. She reached out and gently touched his cheek, her fingers warm and tender. "Mmm, what time is it?"

Rooster checked his phone, "It's still early," he replied. "And it's raining pretty heavily. Looks like we're staying in tonight."

Beatrice sighed softly, shifting on the couch to sit up. She glanced at their daughter, who was still peacefully sleeping. "How's Nicole?"

"She's right here with us," Rooster said, glancing down at their daughter. "We didn't want to wake you."

Beatrice smiled, “...kay.”

“You alright? How was the visit?”

“Fine…” she yawned, “We…talked a lot. Ev’s baby is fine…” she blinked heavily, “The twins…are getting better every day…”

His smile softened, “...baby, maybe you should go to bed?

Beatrice's eyelids felt heavy, and a yawn escaped her as she nodded. "Yeah," she murmured, her voice still laced with sleepiness. "I think I need some more rest. It's been a long day."

“Yeah…”

“You alright?”

“Me?”

“Yeah.” she pushes herself to her elbows, “You look…I dunno, worried.”

“Ah,” he tsks softly, gently playing with Nicole’s hair as she sits between the two, “It’s nothing gorgeous. Just had a talk with Mav…I’ll tell you later,okay?”

Noritoshi goes to see how his mother is doing (he doesn't interact with her or any person she seems to have welcome in her new life. he's just. in the background) and she noticed him. Then asks him if they know each other. Because he looks (a bit) familiar. He answers negatively. Then she has to leave because her child his calling her. A child who gets to call her mom. Not mother. A child at who she looks with bliss. Not defeat.

So, I thought of something. John positively losing it at a silly picture and letting go of some pent up stress in the process. It reminds me of Dave's reaction in the Game Over timeline to his old pictures in his room.

I wonder if Harry Anderson will try to apologize to his father for the events next time they meet, only for John to let him know how proud he is of him, helping his friends like that. :P

Now, let's see what Rose and Kanaya were up to on the battlefield, while Vrissy was getting acquainted with Vriska.

I'm also wondering whether Vrissy will realize what a bad influence Vriska is, what a risk she is to her relationships with Tavros & Harry Anderson. And whether the thrill she brings outweighs those risks. Also, I wonder if Vrissy knows about her cerulean blood mindcontrol powers?

So, yeah, I was thinking Harry Anderson was cumbersome to type everytime, too. Glad Vriska and Vrissy have separately come to the same conclusion. :P

And heheheh, Vriska's presence is shining a light on the thing John was saying all along, that nothing really feels REAL about the Candy Earth C.

So it would almost seem as if the teens might actually leave and find a more "real" version of their parents or something. By playing Sburb. Though wouldn't they like, miss their adult guardians?

Still, cool to get some insight into Harry and Vrissy here. He's always seen an invisible border between the past achievements of his parents and their friends and their current situation. But Vriska is forcing him to acknowledge it's all more real and closer to home than he might be comfortable with.

Meanwhile Vrissy is going through the weird situation where she's jealous of anyone getting Vriska's attention.

And Tavros has shown to be a good supportive partner. Though I still don't really get how their kismesittude works in other ways. How does Vrissy get under his skin, for instance?

Also, it's hilarious to see how badly Harry misjudges his Dad, just like the previous generation once used to do. I really just want to hear John say how proud he is of him now, both for the emotional punch and the hilarious reaction Harry's going to have.

Also, good to see 23 years have done nothing to cool Roxy's affection for all things feline.

And it was cool to see Harry go in one conversation from John-esque "there's this scene in the beginning" to Dave-esque metaforgotten similes. Heredity at its finest.

Right, so, that reminds me. Harry is Dave and Rose's half-brother, let that sink in for a bit. And Tavros is genetically his uncle.

I thought I might have actually been projecting this, but it's LITERALLY the first thing John says to Harry. And in all caps (cause shouting), just like Dad used for his notes. Perfection.

But, pfffffff, okay, just like the father in a comedy, he misinterpreted the events and thought Harry was trying to prank him, oh my god. He literally saw Gamzee's death as part of a prank or something, heeheeheeh.

"JOHN: now, harry anderson, i know that you and tavros haven't always gotten along. JOHN: but i am going to have to ask you to try and look out for him for the time being. JOHN: your uncle jake and i... well, i'll explain later. JOHN: let's just say that gamzee isn't the only family member jane is losing today. I didn't really think pranks were Harry's shtick, but his sarcastic jab at Tavros' expense near the end proves me wrong. So John seems to be saying he's in cahoots with Jake, they're probably chatting covertly.

But actually, considering Jane's Dad is dead, John actually made a bit of a bad joke there, even if he probably doesn't know about Jane's Dad's death.

196. Ogata headside is changed so i think someone took care of him. Sugimoto needs money for the woman he loved for eyes operation but now he is bringing the man he hates to hospital for an eye operation.

I apologize if I put these three asks together but as they arrived one after another and seem to deal all with the same topic it seemed more fitting to handle them together. My apologies if they were asked by different people.

So... let’s tackle those interesting observations.

Yes, I’ve noticed Ogata’s side is changed.

I’m not really sure why he was moved (same as I’ve no idea why they moved whatever is that thing that is hanging on his side and that previously was hanging on the side toward Tsukishima) but being moved doesn’t necessarily mean taking care of him. Also I’ve noticed they gave him a different cover as it’s not the grey furry one he had in chap 192/193.

My point though, was more they didn’t take care of him appropriately.

The bandages here are dirty, and even back then common people knew this wasn’t good for a wound.

Noda is showing us dirty bandages for a purpose, not because he likes to colour them black.

And considering his conditions they should have called a doctor sooner, not when the Nivkh woman flatly told them her herbs couldn't save him. But well, those were other times and people wasn't given the basic human rights we are now supposed to give to... everyone who's human, really.

I’m not sure what you mean with ‘Sugimoto needs money for the woman he loved for eyes operation but now he is bringing the man he hates to hospital for an eye operation.'

Sugimoto isn’t going to pay for Ogata, Koito is, and really if Sugimoto manages to get from Koito the money for Umeko as well this will be great but Sugimoto has remarked many times he’s trying to save Ogata for Asirpa, so Asirpa won’t be a killer.

He’s not doing it for Ogata. Sugimoto cares deeply about Asirpa, to the point he prioritized asking Wilk about Asirpa instead than asking him about the gold whom he needs for Umeko and, even when presented with an easy way to get money, be it by betting or be it by getting it from Hijikata, he refused so as not to leave Asirpa on her own.

I’m not sure why this is becoming about Ogata when it’s actually all for Asirpa, and it’s great really that Sugimoto can put aside his own personal feelings in order to help her.

Letting Ogata die would only hurt Asirpa and Sugimoto would never allow that. He seriously RISKED HIS LIFE so that Asirpa won’t become a murderer. Let’s give this man credits when it’s due, he really did A LOT to protect Asirpa.

Asirpa is precious to Sugimoto, we shouldn’t forget this (and no, before someone will ask, I don’t mean it in a romantic way -_-).

Also I’m not sure if Ogata’s operation and Umeko’s should be compared.

Sugimoto needed all that money to bring Umeko in America because Umeko is losing her sight. It was probably a complex operation that couldn’t be performed in Japan... or in Russia by a random doctor. Ogata was wounded to an eye, yes, but that eye was ripped away and I don’t think the doctor is going to transplant him with another. Ogata isn’t going to go back seeing things with that wounded eye as he has it no more.

The doctor is likely only meant to fight the infection the wound had developed. He clearly isn’t one of the best doctors in the world to whom Sugimoto wants to carry Umeko so, even if back then a doctor was still expensive, I doubt Koito will end up bankrupted.

But yes, you’re right, the irony is here.

He didn’t put Toraji on a sleight to carry him to a doctor and now he’s allowing Ogata to be put to a sleight to be carried to a doctor. Umeko has an eye problem and Ogata has an eye problem. Situations completely different yet similar. It’s cruel irony all over.

Regarding the time passed from when Ogata got wounded to the time in which they decided to bring him to the hospital, I don’t know how you did your math but I can tell you how I did mine.

Chap 191 shows us the guys mourning for Kiroranke’s death, which, we know, happened not much after Ogata was wounded. The chapter moves then to Noboribetsu. As nowhere is said it’s a flashback nor there’s a grey border in the scene which points to how they happened back in a close past I take the scene in Noboribetsu happens directly after what we saw happening in Karafuto.

The light is clear which implies it’s daytime. We’ve Kikuta talking with Usami and Nikaido.

The scene continues in chap 192 with Ariko joining the group. They likely spend some more time there then Kikuta will get a massage by Toni but the background shows clearly night has fallen.

We go back to Karafuto.

As there’s no hint it’s a flashback compared to the Noboribestu scene I assume it’s merely something that happened AFTER it. Therefore, since it’s daytime I assume we are in a new day.

It could be the day just after the meeting between Kikuta Team and Usami team or more day after it but I’ll stand simple and assume it’s just the day after it.

We see Ogata was put to bed, Tsukishima too and, from the bed he tells Svetlana to leave with Gansoku, which she does. Sugimoto and Asirpa chat a bit and then chap 192 ends.

Chap 193 starts with a line from the editor that says ‘another peaceful day in Karafuto’.

It could be a hint that we are in a new day, one different from the one in which Svetlana left but it might also be a matter of translation/interpretation and, anyway, I’m never sure how much we should believe editor’s line so I won’t count this as a new day. It can be. But it can be just the continuation of the previous in which Svetlana left. We can’t tell. Let’s assume it’s the continuation of the day in which Svetlana left. We learn the story of the river monster then we go back to Noboribetsu.

Again there’s no hint whatsoever this is a flashback so I take what we see happens after what we’ve seen in Karafuto.

It’s daytime. Kikuta will try to get info from Nikaido then will study a plan with Ariko.

It’s dark when Usami has his massage....

...and we know it’s night, later on, when Kikuta starts hunting Toni. The toni hunts continues in chap 194 where Ariko manages to have Toni be buried by a snowslide.

Chap 195 has us being back in Karafuto. We might think it’s the day just after Toni was duried. Sugimoto buys a fish hat and then he decides to call for a doctor and forces the doctor at gunpoint to come with him to see Ogata.

Back to Noboribetsuwe go and again there’s no hint this is a flashback.

However Usami gives us a precise information.

After Ariko has left to hunt Toni he never came back and he has been missing for 4 days.

So this is not just the day after Ariko had Toni be buried by a snowslide, this is the 4th day after it.

And then to Karafuto we go, again without signs it’s a flashback, and we see the continuation of the previous scene, the doctor visiting Tsukishima and, from the dialogue, we can clearly guess this is the first time the two meet.

In short Sugimoto went to call the doctor 4 days after Toni supposedly died.

So let’s do again the math.

Day 0: Ogata got wounded, Kiro died, Kikuta and Ariko meet Nikaido and Usami

1 day after (might be more actually but I don’t think so): Svetlana leaves.

Might be in the same day as Svetlana left (or might be not we don’t know): Story of the monster at the river and Toni hunt.

4 days after: Ariko and Kikuta meet and Sugimoto calls a doctor.

So before calling a doctor for Tsukishima and Ogatathey let at least 5 days go by from the day they got wounded. It could be more but, on this, I can’t be sure.

Of course you might decide to see the whole Noboribetsu as a flashback even if nothing says it is... or the whole happening to Karafuto as a flashback even if nothing says it is. It’s a matter of interpretation and how you interpret Golden Kamuy is up to you.

Yes, Ogata can remain perfectly still to the point Vasily thought he was just a corpse put there for the show. Everyone can do it. But he was poisoned and had his eye removed. Honestly I think if he’s normal he should legittimately be in a poor shape.

After all Tanigaki went through a similar experience and spent a lot of time bedridden.

Ogata seems to have it worse but we know the amount of poison in the arrows can wary and Asirpa’s was pretty deadly, clearly more than the one used for the amappo.

(with Asirpa’s arrow a bear would die in 10 steps and a man won’t manage to make one, in fact, Ogata falls immediately after... the amappo that hit Tanigaki instead was meant to catch river otter and its poison, although deadly would slowly kill their victim, in fact Tanigaki doesn’t immediately fall but manages to stand for some minutes and even untie Asirpa before falling).

So really, although Ogata can fake being a corpse, I don’t really think he’s just faking being in a shape so bad that, according to the Nivkh woman, he couldn’t be saved by their herbs.

Ogata is in bad conditions. If he doesn’t feel like warning everyone when he’s awake that’s his problem but doesn’t improve his conditions.

The idea the guy putting Ogata on the sledge...

...could be Enoka's grandfather is interesting and I considered it because the guy is usually in charge of the sledges but Enonoka’s grandfather so far had always worn the same clothes and, especially the hat (Enonoka’s grandfather wears Karafuto Ainu clothes and hat which is pretty characteristic) and those don’t match with the ones of the guy putting Ogata on the sledge (Enonoka’s grandfather is the man with the white bear. You can check in various other scenes and his coat and hat don’t match at all with the ones of that guy).

Enonoka’s grandfather doesn’t need a disguise so I see no reason for him to suddently change his attire.So, unless Noda draw him in the wrong way, I doubt it’s him and I’ll opt for the doctor.

Regarding the doctor’s conclusion I think the doctor had already given a preliminary check to Ogata as the bandages now look clean.

I don’t have a degree in medicine but I would say that, just by hearing he was poisoned and his eye cut away and he was at risk for an infection (if the infection hadn’t already happened) with people who’re definitely not his friends believing he can die, a doctor would guess Ogata would need surgery and that it would be better to move him in a more hygienic environment.

Especially if he was an Army doctor used to have to make quick judgements.

Nowadays we’ve a beautiful system who allows us to make a lot of exams and judge what exactly one needs but, back then, they weren’t that lucky.

Besides, as no one is objecting on the surgery (just on where it should take place), I think they more or less expected it.

The really weird thing here is that the doctor previously wanted to send them away because his hospital was full and now he has decided to bring them there instead than just doing a rushed job and who cares if Ogata dies, whose Japanese soldiers can’t go protest with the authorities if he did a messy job.

But well, we’l find out more in the future, I’m sure.
