rating bryon’s affinity tales

5/10 the first part yes i’m eating up the whump potential, not appreciating you raining on my ship parade tho

7/10 funny as hell but like him not hearing you is kinda a stupid excuse because hearing shit is literally what he does

0/10 hate this so much. let him be blind!! i saw a yt video on his “original lore” (no idea if it’s actually true or not) and i havent been able to let that go

10/10 i’m putting 7 and 8 together because they’re similar but i love this so much, little baby bryon just being a disney princess. also granny dahnie definitely told lorsan and lyca to befriend him btw

10/10 again, i love this idea that he whistles subconsciously and cannot understand why people keep staring at him

AFK JOURNEY IS AMAZING

Okay, I'm really new to tumblr.

But I really want to voice my thoughts out regarding AFK Journey, an ethereal fantasy RPG game.

I will assume everyone who sees this post has played the game, so I won't refrain from spoilers. Currently, I am at the chapter after Vaduso Mountains, and have yet to enter. Just met Temesia and Lucious.

So, I will start with the game building itself.

I think the game being a strategy game where you fight 5vs5 thing, is a really unique thing. I've never played games like Genshin Impact, or Wuthering Waves, or Honkai or any other that I cannot list, but I'm pretty sure that you fight one at a time.

But AFK Journey allows you to fight using 5 characters at ONCE. Not only that, but it you can even AUTO PLAY. and I REALLY should work on getting myself to play manually just for practise.

Furthermore, I really like the fantasy setting.

It is so perfect for someone who genuinely wonders what it's like to live in a fantasy world. And I think while the world is possibly smaller than Genshin Impact, it somehow feels so big. Golden Wheatshire, the Dark Forest and Vaduso Mountains, they're all so natural to a fantasy setting.

The towns are also lovely. I liked when we reached Ivoryshade and Bryon being hit by a woman and he's like HELP ME.

Okay, next up is characters.

I think what makes AFK Journey more fantasized, is the fact there's factions (like races), that are COMPLETELY MADE UP. Yeah, you have the Lightbearers(humans), Wilders(hybrids), Maulers(double hybrids?) and Celestials.

But Graveborns and Hypogeans? That's COOL!

It's like, you could've regarded Hypogeans as Demons, but NO. They made a whole new word for it. (or maybe I just lack knowledge)

Speaking of characters, give this game a big thumbs up for using the word variety to a next level.

Every character you owe is just so unique, it almost feel like they're actual people. A young merchant with a duck. A maniacal jester who is never serious. An old granny with a living staff. TWO. HAMSTER FAMILARS AS YOUR SIDEKICK, one a KNIGHT and one a MAGE.

Maybe I need to do separate posts regarding each faction or something. ( I CAN'T WAIT TO TALK ABOUT PHRAESTO)

But the highlight for me that got me playing this....is our beloved MC, Magister Merlin.

Safe to say, I think in the cannon, Merlin is a man, as the character Merlin in AFK Arena is a man. And it really comforts me that we can choose Merlin's gender in AFK Journey.

Merlin is the usual overpowered MC troupe I guess, and that would've got me leaving. But no.

THEY MADE MERLIN HAVE AMNESIA.

The moment Dolly (we need to give Dolly a lot of credit, she's barely in the story) mentions Merlin being forgetful again, it kinda clicks your brain, that Merlin is just as clueless with you, THE PLAYER. It just allows you to experience Esperia along with Merlin. Both of you are just so confused.

How does this world works? Who am I? Who are my allies and enemies?

It made me feel like I'm Merlin myself, and over time, the name Merlin doesn't even sound weird as a girl. It just, grew on you. It's like the name Charlie can be both for male and female.

I just adore Merlin, both male or female.

NOT TO MENTION YOU CAN CUSTOMISE THEM.

Yeah, that's the whole reason I played the game. By customizing your character, it really feels like you're a part of the game. A part of their world, Esperia. I feel like I'm in my own fantasy world, and I thank Farlight Games for being such an amazing team and creating this game.

It's just right. It's just beautifully right.

Okay, quest is finished! Sadly no graveborn boy but was honestly a pretty fun quest. Talene is the main character so it was fun finally getting to know her a bit.

Overall could have been significantly worse. There wasn’t any mention of her past, so there’s no way to know if it lines up with Arena or not. Her characterization wasn’t too bad and from what I can tell was consistent to Arena.

TLDR for the quest:

(spoilers, obviously)

Dolly informs you Talene had been to the mythical house looking for you. After tracking down Talene in Golden Wheatshire you learn she is experiencing amnesia and only remembers her name. Valen arrives and informs you something incredibly strange has happened in Holistone. Dura’s statue is missing. after investigating a bit you discover traces of hypogean magic not just where the statue had been, but on Talene herself. Someone from the Sun temple arrives to inform general Hogan that the Dura statue has been found, magically transported in front of the Sun temple

Now here’s the weird part: there’s two statues

More dialogue later you determine that one must be a duplicate created by hypogean magic. Talene, using religious flamethrower magic can cleanse the dark magic while leaving the proper statue in tact. Valen helps cart the true statue back to holistone and invites you to have dinner with him and hogan to celebrate. Talene heads out to check on nearby villages and promises to meet you for dinner. (Again) these dinner plans are interrupted by Bryon sending a message that something odd is happening in Ivoryshade. Talene arrives and the party sets out to the Dark forest.

The deer statue has also been duplicated

Of course just flamethrowering a major religious symbol gives Lyca some anxiety so Talene, sensing nearby hypogean magic runs off to give chase and there’s a quick battle with some minions as the hypogean escapes. Talene splits off from the group again. After returning to Ivoryshade and talking to townsfolk, you discover conflicting stories. One person they saw Talene traveling north, another says south. You continue on and meet up Talene, where she states she just arrived in the dark forest and had not seen you since Holistone.

Plot twist: Talene was also duplicated, the spell also being the one that caused the initial amnesia. The Talenes flamethrower each other until the fake is destroyed. Now with her memory back intact Talene informs you she had been chasing down a powerful Hypogean when she was struck in battle and duplicated. The hypogean is obsessed with symmetry and has a fascination with religious objects, which is why he’s been doubling up everything, including her. After returning to Ivoryshade again the group sets an asymmetrical trap to lure Reiner out and then you duke it out of course. Reiner uses his spatial magic to escape while Talene thanks you for assisting her.

Annnnnd that’s it! You get a free ten pull and a pat on the back

Overall solid 7/10 for a story quest

So she was hunting down Reinier, but he doesn’t have any personal connection to Talene. Makes sense! I’m assuming we don’t really get into the nitty gritty of Talene’s own backstory and what not, but seeing how this quest was a lot of chasing and solving, I’m hoping they’ve got more stashed away for later.

On a different note, did Valen really drag the Dura statue back to Holistone from the sun temple?? Deadass???? 😭😭😭 also I’m happy to see Merlin back in the Dark forest it’s cute ❤️

Not a very lore related quest, but still clarifies some questions we had initially. Thanks again dude!! 🙏🙏

What's new?.. okay so we just had the winter feast event and I changed my cape to the one we got from there cause blue is my favorite colour and I'm loving the look of it. Also, I changed my pfp in game to a Pic of mirael I liked from pinterest. <3

And in terms of story... I'm still where I was back when I was at 5 mil lol. At the start of ivoryshade. I love this game, but I like going slow is all. <3

The Juinper is an ally, so it cannot be them, FlailClan (I think that's their name) and us are not on good terms but they're not powerful enought to launch an attack, I will now rule out that one of us murdered Ivoryshade, but it's the least likely option

My account at 5mil! I tried getting it to 4969k for the skit, but did some upgrading and looked over and it's past 5 so there goes that TwT.

Since the last update, I think the main difference is legit just the addition of photobooth like a day or so again. Also, got my second mythic and it's parisa!

In terms of story, I'm at the start of Ivoryshade and just taking my time! It's currently day 25 according to the "all hero's available" login rewards. Up to now, I'm still just absolutely loving this game moreso everyday, as well as the community and frens I've been interacting with in game and on here in tumblr. <3
