my dude!! that is ur classmate, presumably ur at least acquaintance, and you a) didn’t know/forgot this and b) don’t really care??

to that end I’m just. she had to have least been enrolled for the year to have been in the class ranks, right? like for the school to have not taken her out of the system? so she can't have died that long ago. several months, at most - i'm just. wondering about her as a character* and having feelings about it.

or am i fundamentally misunderstanding something/reading too deeply into the joke? - which is a real, although far less interesting, possibility.

*i say "wondering" - the reality is she exists very very clearly in my mind, but it's still sort of sad to know that her story ended before our story (in the form of the actual musical) started. we know all these other characters (to varying degrees) but her?? nothing but a throwaway joke also the tragic symmetry of her death at the start of the year and jason's at the end of the year <\3

In Reputation Stain'd I prefer the versions that Sister Chantelle looks between Jason and Matt and then snaps at Matt to follow her into her office and get told off there. This is showing that it matters who started it, and Sister Chantelle knows that and lives by it, and that Matt is probably in for some divine intervention.

Other versions have rehearsals end there because everybody is getting kicked out of the room by Sister Chantelle, which leans more into either her "can't be bothered unless it threatens my own goals" characterization (which I think is for the best, that she is consistently portrayed as having goals and dreams and priorities of her own—the audience is constantly reminded that she does have a whole lot of a life outside of the main character or any of these kids). But if she'd initiate a big musical number because Mercutio has been sad and distracted by a for-all-she-knows unrequited crush on his bestie, then why wouldn't she more forcefully intervene when Tybalt starts to improvise fight choreography that could seriously have hurt someone?
