Something I find interesting about Sett, Jack and Samira is that they seem to show a bit of a shift in terms of champion design.

If we look at many other champions (including some that were rotated, which in some cases can point to Riot seeing their design as unhealthy), once they've leveled up, they immediately put a lot of pressure on the opponent: Ezreal can threaten burst-speed kills, Pyke can wipe your board with a flick of a strike spell, Pantheon, Kai'Sa or Aatrox successfully attacking can win the game on the spot, etc.

But the Glory in Navori trio doesn't work like that. It's only once you've leveled them up that you can actually start building up towards a payoff. Samira doesn't rally on level up, Sett doesn't create a showstopper on level up, and Jack's level up only really gives him +1/+1 and overwhelm before you commit any more resources (he does gain additional coin generation, but it's not exactly a game ender either).

It'd be overkill to say they have to level up twice, but they've definitely been designed with counterplay and interaction in mind, giving the opponent time to answer them before they actually become threats. All of their level ups give them a "smaller" buff that helps them achieve their bigger effect, but you still have to work for that game-winning rally or obliterate.

i.

the lady of the iron islands howls, scratching upon the walls in agony. it was a birth as unforgiving as the waves that thrashed upon the rocks and shores of the cliffs of pyke. only after a day's worth labor, does the babe, a son, come, kicking and screaming. not the storm god, nor the drowned god could pillage the smile that dared upon the lord. perhaps only the firstborn son ever could, for when his cries stop abruptly, blood and sweat smeared chest no longer rising, does the lord feel the harsh, damp, and grey that is his home, a feeling left to falter.

grief had been reserved only to the mother who birthed the boy, the lord father on the other hand, rushes to the coasts, priests at his heel. his dark, melancholic heart bows to no one but the ocean and its divinity, and should his joy be cause of envy, then so be it. the drowned god demands only the great. he will surrender with his head held high, with the sea as his witness. ❝ what is dead may never die ❞ . a cold-blooded man, submerges the still body of his firstborn babe into the water, the world behind falls silent, the mother's wails ringing in the man's ears. the seafoam takes hold of the first joy he's ever tasted in what felt like a lifetime. but the lord of the iron islands is firm, does nothing but surrender to the will of their god and its waves. ❝ but rises again, harder & stronger ❞

to a man who lived in the chaos that is the waves and unending noise, there is no comfort in a hushed world. the great big storm rumbles from the distance, licks of silver and gold cracks in the sky, and the winds groans as a jolt sends subdued colors back to the lord's face. the babe, the firstborn son — whose name has been decided long before his conception, ( dalton, my boy, dalton, my son... ), whose arrival has been long-anticipated by the man knee-deep in seawater and the woman in sheets stained red, has been gifted back by the drowned god, as promised.

ii.

dalton greyjoy. the firstborn son. the heir of pyke. the beloved son. the better son. skilled, revered, and clever, dalton. a true ironborn in his very first breath, showed interest to the ways of their people at his young age. rowing at the tender age of six — look at the young lord, putting us all to shame with his craftsmanship; oh, the young lord wields a knife, the world will be bled early. the ways of the ironborn carved, shoved, and sewn into his core, not a surface of his being unturned, unmarked by the ways of seas. the young boy screams as his features slide of, a vague, unrecognizable silhouette before his eyes, drawn and shaped in the mirror. hands scarred, callous, and often grimed, remained foreign to the body it services. dalton greyjoy, the firstborn son crafted by the ironborn. the forged heir of pyke. the firstborn son that dined with the drowned god, and returned home. no, his father once drunk boasted that dalton greyjoy, his firstborn, is gift delivered by the drowned god, recounts the his birth, and the men cheered.

some days short after his eleventh name day, at his first reave, the young lord of pyke became a man. as with tradition, made his foes pay the iron price. dalton had the makings of the ironborn, and the act was proof enough of his prowess. the first time was glorious, the crew roared with laughter... and cheered, raising the bloodied weapons and burning torches high, as they did in all victorious ventures. the way everyone else remembers. to his mother's son, a young boy dragged to a ship after supper, it was smoke, storms, and screams. the thought of slaughter was only ever visual and verbal, depicted in bucket-loads of blood, torn and scorched skin, dead bodies on the ground. a young boy, nowhere near a man, feels the flesh, innards, and bone taunting his knife as he drove it down grown man's abdomen. small, capable hands, latching onto the blade for dear life, as he struggles free from the pirate's headlock, creaking ship, towering waves and thunder laughing. ❝ where is your god now, boy ❞ the man jeers, makes mockery of his faith, of his zeal. ❝ you'll know soon enough ❞ as he drowned above water, young dalton soon came to know of the lies.

violence cannot be depicted by mere sight and words, and it should be blasphemy to do so. a great disservice to their faith. it squelches, slides, and c r a c k s . oh, how it vibrates against his wrist! warm and thick on his cheeks, sticky between his fingers. the scent is repulsive as it is addicting. his young mind only ever imagined stillness once vitality pours to the sea. there is terror as much as there is acceptance. a false understanding of devotion and loyalty, drives a young lord to complete surrender to his beliefs. one that bathes in fire, blood, and songs of dominion. for what is he if not skin, flesh, and bone endowed by the drowned god, even the ironborn believe so. that night the heir of pyke, indeed, became more than a man, drunk on the blessings of their benevolent deity and the strength of his ironborn brothers.

iii.

dalton greyjoy, the heir of pyke, the first born son. ironborn personified, drowned god's endowment... carved by piety, forced by the tides. the lord lived, breathed, and r e a v e d. he held dominion over the rough seas, pillaged as he pleased, enforcing the will of his deity and the iron islands, aboard the ship he made with his ragged and splintered hands and that of his chosen few, marked and sealed with the kraken, sigil of the house men on the dark waters came to fear. wherever his beloved, cruel iron vengeance went, its worn sails black as the raven's feather with the house sigil drawn in gold, blood and gold flow. dalton greyjoy, more than a man, a hundred and some brutalities on his back, ever always emerges from smoke, covered in his foe's blood, earns him the moniker, red kraken. they whistle, whisper, and gasped in brothels and taverns, the disgruntled ports, scattered islands all the way to the narrow seas. the house, the name, the moniker in a dying pirate's song they all sing.

❝ the red kraken, hand of the drowned god, the waves shriek as he comes for fathers and sons, his eyes are dark and scarlet, his song is without sound, the red kraken, hand of the drowned god... delivers you to drink and feast in the watery halls pay the iron price as he sings you this song. ❞

malevolent is he who dwells beneath the waves, creator of the seas and father of them all, heeds prayers and qualms storms. devotion is as terrifying as it is beautiful, and what is the heir of pyke, plunging wide-eyed and smirking, into the depths of it all. the quests and voyages made him an ironborn worthy of reverence, merfolks ought to bow when the iron vengeance passes. unfortunate, that his lord father, think him negligent, his pilgrimage all for naught. the ruling lord heeds no longer the call of their beloved god, but the urges of men clad in fine silk, trappings of righteousness, and avaricious ambitions. burdened by their own personal interests, discarding customs and beliefs, not for the will of the waves but borrowed existence. dalton frowns upon them all, calls falling to deafened ears, for the ruling lord's firstborn son abides by the creed of the seas.

been watching tb skyen’s league of legend videos lately. I don’t know jack about shit when it comes to league of legends but it’s interesting to hear the lore and see critiques of the designs and skins of the characters. I like Pyke and Nautilus. Taliyah and neeko are cuties. Orianna is cool. I don’t know how ppl could ever know all these champions off the top of their heads, though, there’s like 150 of them I think and it’s a lot.
